With tentative peace established in Faerie, Thierry returns to her job as a conclave marshal in Texas while the countdown to her coronation begins. But what happens in Faerie doesn't always stay in Faerie. A crown wasn't Theirry's only souvenir from her trip. Her new husband, Rook, is scheming again, and this time his plans are invading her dreams.

When her best friend throws a beachside going away party, Thierry is grateful for the distraction from Rook...and from Shaw. But her presence in Daytona rouses an old evil, one who wants the future queen as the crown jewel of his private collection.

I gave serious thought to giving this a bit higher rating and rounding it off to 5 Stars but in the end I decided a few little things kept me from doing it and 1 BIG thing for me that made me want to rate it higher. She made me like Shaw, it only took 3 books since I really have not liked him since book 1. I know that I am a bit biased since I have a personal lack of interest in succubi and incubus as characters (and a few other reviewers I know feel the same way) so making me like Shaw was an uphill battle for Hailey Edwards.

Thierry is coming to grips with the events of the last book and her new maybe/sorta/WTF marital status. Shaw starts off kinda being the general a$$ I have thought him to be until now (and for a goodly part of this book). He turns out to be a bit more likable and almost a good hero (almost).

Thierry after her strong performance in the last book seemed to be a bit more stupid in this book and less aware of things going on around her. The reasons for some of her actions (or lack thereof is more to the point) I found kinda lame so I had to subtract a bit there, still no real major complaints here.

This was a book of pieces and parts to fill in holes from the first 2 books which was ok, the action was good but less than I might have liked, especially considering the action packed events of the last book. There are some major surprises towards the end of this story and leaves the reader gasping for more but since the next book is the finale I expect a full 5 Star experience and hopefully not a "I am tired of writing this story" that I see many times from other authors.

I DID enjoy the "secret stalker" surprise but still not sure I liked what she did with it only because it was a bit too Pollyanna for my tastes but it worked for the story.

I was surprised with another surprise that I did not see coming, I also feel I was cheated out of some much needed revenge and the only reason I am not screaming about it is because it might be part of the next book but betrayal needs revenge in this reviewers book (being a revenge junkie does bias my reviews)

BOTTOM LINE: Great story, excellent plot, Shaw steps up his game and Thierry seems to be less than she was last book. I am setting the bar high for the next/last book in this series since there are a lot of things to be accomplished and I hope I get the 5 Star ending I am hoping for this story. Highly recommended for those who have read the first 2 books and if you have not yet, you need to get started!

~ 3 Lie Down with Dogs Stars ~

Lie Down with Dogs is book three in the Black Dog series by Hailey Edwards.

I enjoyed Lie Down with Dogs. I could not put it down, but it’s not the strongest novel in the series. Thierry is trying to come to terms with the events that happened in the last book Heir of the Dog.

The novel was a steady pace to read, entertaining, but not much happens until after the 50% mark and the author did give the reader a few surprises at the end that I did not see coming. As for the plot development I felt that their was not much in this area, nor character growth or growing up on Thierry’s part. She does a lot of self pitying throughout the novel. I’m married to a man I don’t love, I have to give up my life to be Queen of the Fae, and oh no I broke Shaw. Is she doing anything to change her situations? Nope. It got old fast all the doubting, woe is me, and I love Shaw, but I broke him stuff.

I’m still not sold on the guys in Thierry’s life. I just don’t get what she sees in either of them and Shaw is the one she loves. Neither guy in her life seems to care for her. They only seem to want her for what she can give them. Though the author did try to make Shaw out to be a bit more likable, but I still feel that Thierry needs to dump them both.

Lie Down with Dogs was a good story, but not exceptional. Thierry seemed less than what she has been in the other novels. I hope the final book meets my expectations and accomplishes what needs to get done in this series.

If you have not tried this new urban fantasy series Black Dog, I recommend giving it a try.

In Lie Down with Dogs, Thierry is trying to come to terms with what happens in the previous novel. All while doing her job and attempting to enjoy her freedom until she has to return to Faerie. She takes a trip with her friend but trouble finds her. Her ex, Shaw, is in Orlando searching for his missing sister-in-law and some selkies are up to no good and a bunch of other complications.

The story dragged for me until about midway when the action hit and then it was one thing after another. While I enjoyed the plot twists and romantic complications, it was sometimes over the top.

Mooreghan Martin narrates and while she did a great job, from different voices to pacing, Thierry’s voice began grating on me. I am going to give the next installment a chance before deciding if I am going to part ways with this series. I love the author and don’t know if it is me or the storyline. I've decided to write a deliberately obtuse review in an attempt to prevent spoilers for Lie Down with Dogs.

Please keep in mind Lie Down with Dogs by Hailey Edwards is the third book in a four book series all published. Therefore, if you're still on the fence about reading this series & have decided to read a few reviews as a determining factor, proceed with caution. I will attempt to minimize spoilers but I repeat this is book 3 in a 4 book series. Spoilers are likely in your particular case.

I recommend the black dog series is read in order:
Dog with a Bone (Black Dog, #1) by Hailey Edwards
Heir of the Dog (Black Dog, #2) by Hailey Edwards
Lie Down with Dogs (Black Dog, #3) by Hailey Edwards (Reviewing now)
Lie Down with Dogs (Black Dog, #3) by Hailey Edwards

*Romance*
Book three in the Black Dog series ends eerily similar to book one romantically. Unlike my feelings towards the end of book one Dog with a Bone (Black Dog, #1) by Hailey Edwards . At which point I was excitedly invested in Thierry's coupling, after reading book three Lie Down with Dogs (Black Dog, #3) by Hailey Edwards my interest in Thierry's romantic entanglements have flat lined & I've happily signed a DNR.

*Characters*
Thierry continues to be a flawed, smart, strong, independent heroin. One that learns from her mistakes, this adds believability, growth, & depth to her character. I enjoy reading the story from her POV

Thierry & Rook's coupling in book three does not included wedded bliss. They continues to be husband & wife, however Rook barely makes an appearance in book three.

The incubus continues to use Thierry as take-out throughout book three. Grudgingly, I will admit the incubus does disclose some interesting "relationship manipulations" that may excuse his previous behavior & even endear himself to some readers. I am not one I'm still not a fan Shaw.

Thierry's roommate continues to be my fave secondary character. In book three the sly fox repeatedly proves to readers why she's Thierry's BFF. Everyone should be so lucky.

*The Plot*
Book three Lie Down with Dogs does an excellent job moving the overall story arc forward. It's "fat content" has been efficiently trimmed to limit fluff & I give my thanks to the editing team. Every question the reader may have had in Dog with a Bone (Black Dog, #1) by Hailey Edwards & Heir of the Dog (Black Dog, #2) by Hailey Edwards Hailey Edwards works hard to supply answers to in Lie Down with Dogs (Black Dog, #3) by Hailey Edwards without boring the reader. The author did a fantastic job keeping the reader on their toes. Expect twists & hard to swallow truths in book three.

*Final Thoughts* At the end of Lie Down with Dogs (Black Dog, #3) by Hailey Edwards my feelings towards the majority of the characters are consistent. I like Thierry, I continue to believe Mai is worth her weight in fairy gold, I dislike Shaw, I believe Thierry's mother is a weakling (MORE SO NOW),I am baffled by Mac's actions/reasoning, & Rook continues to inspire distrust. Oh & I feel I should cart bus loads of exotic honey into the conclave’s building. Three guesses who it's for... lol

*Rating* 3.5 stars

Those same hands that had so delicately held your joy were plunged in your chest as they ripped your heart out by its roots.” ― Hailey Edwards, Lie Down with Dogs

Dammit. Love triangles mess with my emotions. I’ve never been a fan of Shaw, but now I just don’t know how I feel. As the story begins, Thierry has been separated from her new husband, Rook, and she is back home, at least for the next year until she must return to Faerie to be crowned Queen. So she decides to go out on one last vacation with her best friend to Florida. Shaw tags along to work on a case nearby. And of course, she has her two fae guards along with her giant shape shifting cat, Diode.

It’s not all sun and surf. Thierry encounters one obstacle after another from some adversarial selkies to a mysterious phone stalker and an enigmatic fae who targeted her friend with a supernatural roofie. On one hand, Thierry just wants to relax with her best gal pal, but she can’t ignore the wrongs she encounters either. She is still a marshal at heart.

There’s a whole lot of betrayal and twists happening here. I won’t spoil them, but I just don’t feel really good about anyone in Thierry’s life right now, save her kitsune friend. This author has a way of putting her heroines through a whole lot of backstabbing and Thierry takes one hit after another.

And when all is said and done, a couple of whoppers have been unveiled and still she has to make a huge decision about not only her future, but the future of two worlds.

I liked this book and I am very invested, not only in Thierry, but what will happen with the overall story arc. I just don’t feel like there has been justice for the wrongs done to this heroine. Especially since people I kind of liked keep revealing themselves to be untrustworthy. Hopefully, I will get the resolution I need in the last installment. Jumping in right away.

Poor Thierry, she does NOT have a good time in LIE DOWN WITH DOGS. She has a crown laying over her head she doesn't want, she has a phone stalker, her best friend's family is no longer behind her, and her new bodyguards aren't on her side like she thought they were.

I was SO torn over the whole Shaw V.S. Rook dilemma after reading HEIR OF THE DOG, but I think LIE DOWN WITH DOGS did a really good job of finally making me choose a guy to root for. A lot of things were revealed and it was easy to see who I think would be better for Thierry. I really liked Shaw in book one, despised him in book two and fell in love with him in book three. Not sure what will happen next with him and Thierry, but I'm sure it will be good.

The ending? Mind blown, I had no idea and I'm really interesting in reading the next book to find out more about Thierry's Dad. Lots of action, lots of things revealed, and lots of character development in LIE DOWN WITH DOGS.

Still invested in the stories and this one was good, just not great. It rides the line of YA (which it feels like) and NA (which is where the ages of the characters land it.)

Lie Down with Dogs is another awesome read in the ‘Black Dog’ series in which we re-join Theirry on her adventures.
The last book proved a real game changer in the series and left me thinking ‘wth’ just happened? Theirry’s life was completely turned around and if you though you knew where the series was headed…. Like me, you would be wrong.
Tee only has a year left on earth before she must take up the role of princess of the Fae, in that year she must not only do her job as a marshal but also learn her duties for the position she will head into. Tee doesn’t want this but with no way out, no loopholes etc. she is stuck and so with that in mind, her best friend decides that a going away vacation is what the girls need, some quality bff time in the sun, sea and sand of Daytona. The trip turns out to be a real eye opener for Tee as her reputation precedes her and more than one supernatural is drawn out to play, with Tee right in their sights.
Not only does she have that on her plate but she has one husband of dubious consent demanding her time in sleep – under the pretence of duty – and an ex who needs her in able to stay alive. Both have secrets, both need her…. But who wants her for the right reasons? As secrets unfold and plans become apparent - Theirry’s about to have her world rocked again.

I really enjoyed this third instalment of the series and the plot definitely thickens. There was a sort of sadness to Theirry this time around as she prepares to move to Fairie which is something she doesn’t want for herself but was cajoled into. She seemed slightly more vulnerable in this which is understandable considering the ordeal she was put through last time. Things are still up in the air with Shaw, I really wish their relationship had not been complicated with a love triangle, their bond was so natural in book one and it all went to crap in book two and she ended up with another man, married in fact and that made me sad. I do like Rook but I feel like Theirry’s feelings toward him are forced and strange, they don’t share the connection that she and Shaw do but I’m happy enough to see it play out.
The storyline was as good a standard as the previous two books and the progression was good also. Everyone thought that Tee had changed allegiances because of her new found status but that wasn’t the case and it caused a little trouble for her, I admired her for her fairness and her need to remain neutral even though it put her at odds with both of her roles. There were a few things going on plot wise that all needed to tie together and I think that was done really well, 3 major threads were; Tee’s problem with an undetectable Fae who was putting her friend in danger; Shaw was on a personal mission to bring peace to his brother and the third is another missing person case that Tee seems to have stumbled into. They will have far reaching effects I believe for the rest of the series but bring with them a lot of questions. There seems to always be a lot of scheming around Tee, a lot of misdirection, manipulation and such and poor Tee always seems to be the one being manipulated – it’s a wonder she trust anyone! So also expect some further revelations about the people in her life that will directly affect her, some good and some not so much. I liked where the story went, it had all of the elements I love in this genre, plenty of action too and there is still plenty of scope to expand. Of course, the ending was left gaping open for the next one and it reeled me in just like the others so I can’t wait for more!

OMG! These books are killing me. In a good way. In a "can I squeeze in one more tonight or should I think about getting sleep at some point?" sort of way. (Answer: I can at least START the next book. I might not finish it, but I can TRY!)

Thierry and Shaw and OMG! YES! I'm not saying I agreed with some of the choices he made, but I'm glad things are finally getting ironed out between them. I mean, at least they're communicating, right? Communication is KEY. Especially when you can drink someone's soul down and need them to keep you from going into a feeding frenzy. (That goes for both those whacky soul-suckers. They have some serious mojo between them.)

Things are coming to a head. As always, Thierry finds herself in a dangerous situation without quite meaning to. Her family life in complicated. Her love life is even more complicated. Her sorta-husband isn't winning any personality points from me despite the fact he wasn't as as Liar McLiarpants as last time. And that cat. Cat, you surprised me. I'll leave it at that.

I have a few hours before I have to be semi-alert and in a working environment. I can totally get book 4 started.

Thierry´s trying to come to terms with the future she´s bound to, to return and rule as Queen in Faerie within a year, but it´s hard to give up on life as she knows it, her friends and her mother.
Mai convinces her to take a vacation in Florida, sun, beach and fun, but that doesn´t turn out as planned. With her royal guards, the giant cat she befriended in Faerie and not to mention Shaw and her being his only means to feed..
Get ready for a fast paced, action filled and thrilling read where questions are answered and new twists are revealed.
Love it and can´t wait for the next and final book in the series <3.

Thierry is now a princess of Faerie thanks to her new husband Rook. She is given a one year reprieve and she hopes to find a way out of this mess in that time. In the meantime Shaw shows up and lets he know that something happened and he can now only feed from her. And if things aren't complicated enough she finds out her mother in law the Morrigan wants the throne for her own as well as the human world.

This was good, the second is still my favorite but this was entertaining. Mostly, I don't get her thing with Shaw. Besides the fact that he's hot I don't really feel the connection between them. I also find Mai to be very annoying. But overall I like the dynamic between characters and will probably finish out this series.

Kindle Unlimited, basically Dog Eat Dog World: Limited Edition Bundle (Black Dog) an omnibus type book, order given is not necessarily by 'set' or collection but by order blurb said in the one book. Rather hard to figure out rating when there are multiple stories in 1 large collection, as usually don't like all of them the same, so had to figure out whether a 3 or a 4 basically but figured liked it overall 'okay; but not really invested in any.

Dog with a Bone (The Black Dog Prequel) - Dog Days of Summer (A Black Dog Short Story)
Heir of the Dog (Black Dog, Book 1) - Lie Down with Dogs (Black Dog, Book 2) - Old Dogs, New Tricks (Black Dog, Book 3)
Stone-Cold Fox (A Black Dog Novella)
Dead in the Water (Gemini, Book 1) - Head Above Water (Gemini, Book 2) - Hell or High Water (Gemini, Book 3)

I really am enjoying this series. Thierry is the Unseelie Princess, soon to be crowned Queen, a position most fae would die for, but one that Thierry is desperate to get out of. She is back in the mortal world, trying to live her life as normally as possible, yet this time she has a talk gigantic cat and 2 bodyguards following her every move.

When her best friend and roommate Mai suggests a short vacation to Daytona Beach to get away from everything, they both jump at the chance, but unfortunately scantily-clad and drunken tourists are a prime picking for the fae and Thierry soon finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Luckily for her, she has some fabulous friends who don't let her down!

I like the characters in this series, even Rook to an extent, although he is definitely not trustworthy as yet. Diode was a surprise and I can totally understand Thierry's reaction. Looking forward to reading the last book in the series and I do wonder whether Thierry will fight for her throne or just let events that have happened stay as they are, especially seeing as she doesn't really want the crown anyway!

so much adventure

When suspension from work leads to a vacation that then basically turns into work off the book Thierry is in for a rough time of it even with her cat, Mai and Shaw to help her out there are just to many other treacherous forces gunning for her.
Lots of revelations within this story and it’s going to make the final book very interesting

This one dragged for me. Thierry wasn’t her usual badass self, Rook and Shaw were almost non-existent for most of the story, and honestly it felt a little cobbled together. I’m hoping the last book is better than the first two, because I thought Thierry was fantastic in the Gemini series, so it’s extra disappointing to see her so… small here.

Lie Down with Dogs (Black Dog #3) by Hailey Edwards Book three takes place after Marshal Thierry Thackeray’s return from Fairy. She negotiated a year in the human realm before returning to Fairy as Queen. Mai and Thierry plan a vacation in Daytona where they of course run into trouble because Thierry’s life is never easy.

Thierry has a lot on her plate. She was tricked into being Rook's wife in book two. She is dealing with Shaw’s feeding situation. Work doesn’t want her on any life treating missions because of her new title as Queen. That of course puts her in a financial situation, and I do not blame her for not wanting to take Rook’s money. I wouldn’t either. A vacation is just what she needed. Too bad she doesn’t really get one. This is definitely one of those vacations that you need a vacation from.

I really like Thierry’s character. She is selfless, always putting others' well-being before her own. She doesn’t have a lot of friends but the ones she does have are loyal.

Linen was a powerful adversary. There is more to him than meets the eye. The intricacy of his operation was impressive, in an evil way.

Hailey Edwards does a great job introducing situations into the story that later have significant relevance in the series. Her writing style is noteworthy and thought-provoking.

Lie Down with Dogs is an exciting and action-packed story that had many interesting twists. I really liked the surprise ending and cannot wait to read what happens in the
concluding book in the series, Old Dog, New Tricks.

Well, obviously I didn't like it.... I hate when that happens.

This book is slow, up until maybe have way through all that's really going on is girls on vacation...
And Thierry whiny a lot! She becomes passive and things happen to her. She doesn't take initiative short of saying all the time how she doesn't what to be queen... She doesn't research, she tries to catch a genie to make a wish... that's like the first view pages... and then that's it...

The interesting parts only start 70% in. After that, it does get interesting and has some twists.

Getting better

Still I worry about her intelligence, even with the excuses they use she just leaves many opportunities walk by, and takes way too many risks. I don't get how she can still be so trusting and naive, and I get she is the good one, but having a good heart doesn't mean she has to be so stupid.

Reading this series for the second time…

I remembered some things as it went along but needless to say i fell in love with it even more the second time around!

I suffer from Fibromyalgia & was DX: Chronic Migraine last year…. Reading has been my get away for awhile now & like a vacation away from life, Work as an RN, BSN, && pain. The chronic migraines haven’t fully left. But my physical health & endurance have & ive got to fight yet ANOTHER battle up YET another mountain again….Migraines still somewhat going & this year & 1/2 is that which i will never gain back. Why oh why dies this have anything to do with a review you say?! You cant rely on anyone else but yourself to pick yourself up on a minute by minute basis with your loved ones (you hope) to be your personal cheer section. Well this is my other cheering section! My ARC families & my authors that take the time to put their imagination down on paper & have the cajoles to even allow peeps like me to read them allow us to critic their « babies » & then with their brain & with our touches attempt to publish let alone allow the masses to share in their masterpieces or « failures » ( art is art & as artists always are hard on ourselves) a glimpse into their Galaxies & Outerworld’s far far away…. && Working during COVID diD NOT help in anyway shape or form… SOOOO THANK YOU now back to our regularly scheduled review…

I’ve read another series of hers a few months back & getting back into my kindle unlimited & away from my ARCs to catch up on Old reading. I stumbled back into the Black dog universe & didn’t realize it continued (Hun, go fig 🤷‍♀️) wellll i read in it about a Theirry & Shaw. Thr brain stuttered, screeched on its brakes, & i was like wait hold up a sec. So now going through this series once again to out my brain back on track to finishing up this series for my OCD’s subconscious & it WILL BE CLEARED. Oh, yes 👍🏼 it will. As a great fan of hers ( Noooo i couldnt tell u her birthday 🥳 , her fav hue, or eyes BUT i do know GRRReeeeAAAtTT! writing when i read one. 🥸😜 )

What I liked:
-Thierry and Shaw. I really love these two together. They have fantastic chemistry, still some of the absolute best I've read in paranormal fiction. Their interactions are perfect as partners, both at work and personally. I feel like they bring out the best in each other and I really hope they somehow end up together.
-Politics. I thought it was pretty awesome that Thierry's new position isn't being forgotten about until it's important. She is forced to constantly think about how her actions will affect the balance and those around her. It's interesting to see how this whole political intrigue continues to play out.

What I disliked:
-Lack of plot. The main plot is still in play, but there should have been more of a side plot for this book itself. There was a little bit of a mystery but the book didn't seem to focus on it. The story dragged a little bit to me as there wasn't any real sense of urgency in regards to the case they were trying to solve. The resolution of the case was the strongest part of the book, but the rest of it could have been a little more in-depth.

Overall, this was a really great addition to the series. I think the first two books were better, but this one is leading up to the big finale and I expect a huge bang. Definitely recommend this book to any fans of paranormal anything. 4.5

With a year before she has to return to Faerie after being named Princess, Thierry returns to her job as a conclave marshal in Texas until she finds herself with some free time after an altercation with a teenaged djinn and accepts her friend Mai’s invitation to a beach vacation in Florida. Shaw has returned to make her life complicated and just so happens to be an hour away in Orlando, searching for his missing sister-in-law. Of course Thierry can’t go without an entourage, including Diode the big cat and two fae guards. While in Florida, they encounter a pod of selkies who are being preyed upon by the Morrigan, an ancient evil who wants to add Thierry to his collection, and a phone stalker who keeps saying he owes Thierry and needs to meet with her. Things just keep getting more complicated and convoluted, which is pretty much the norm for Thierry, but most things are explained by the time we get to the end, except the biggest question, what is she going to do about the Princess thing? I can’t wait to find out in Old Dog, New Tricks.

Lie Down with Dogs is Book #2 in the Black Dog series by Hailey Edwards.
Diving into The Black Dog Universe was a total treat – as Hailey Edwards has basically built this interconnected world where magic, supernatural politics, and snarky banter all collide - and it’s addictive.
The series doesn’t just stick to one MC - instead, it hops between different main characters whose stories overlap in clever and intriguing ways. We get werewolves, fae, witches, and all sorts of supernatural chaos - but what really makes it shine is how human the characters feel, even when they’re not technically human. They’re flawed, funny, and sometimes make terrible decisions - which makes them all the more relatable.
If you like your fantasy worlds rich and immersive, your characters messy in the best way, and your plots full of supernatural intrigue - then this universe is definitely worth diving into. Just be warned - once you start, you just might end up binge-reading the whole thing, just like me.
Happy Reading…
