I’ve survived worse than most people can imagine. I even survived myself. They think they’re teaching me how to breathe in the dark instead of letting it bleed me out. For a while, I breathe. But darkness doesn’t disappear just because I’ve learned to turn on the lights. It waits. It studies. And when it comes for me, I remember I’ve already survived the devil, so I can handle his demons. I know how to play along. I know how to earn trust. I know that in the end, I’ll be the one walking away. I’ll be going home to the men who taught me that surrendering is a choice and survival is an art—The monsters might be able to break me, but they will never tame me.
THIS IS A DARK ROMANCE WITH HEAVY TRIGGERS. READER'S DISCRETION IS HIGHLY ADVISED.
Emily Klepp is a Western North Carolina native residing in eastern Tennessee with her loving husband and two beautiful children. She has been writing since she was fourteen years old as a way to cope with her anxiety. She hopes to help others be able to speak their truth by writing about topics that are considered too taboo for societal norms.
This was dark and deep. SA by Ayla’s dad until he passed. Then again by her professor at school. She tried to end her life because she couldn’t take the abuse anymore. Sent to the Meridian Institute, she falls for Terri of then therapists and them her. And then two other guys there also. I loved the way they all connected. They were so good together. Seeing them find healing and love. This was an absolute pleasure to read.
Oof spicy and traumatic but I loved every second. This book is a bit longer than her other books but it was all over the place. I had no idea where anything was going. And the connections were crazy!! But anyways love the premise. It was good
This book absolutely wrecked me—in the best possible way. It’s dark, emotional, intense, and surprisingly beautiful underneath all the difficult subject matter. I went in knowing this was going to be a heavy read, but I still wasn’t prepared for just how much Ayla’s story would get under my skin.
I definitely recommend checking the trigger warnings before starting this one. There are some incredibly difficult themes involving trauma, abuse, grief, survival, and the aftermath of experiences no one should ever have to endure. This isn’t a light or fluffy romance, but there is so much heart woven through the darkness.
Ayla has been through more than anyone should have to survive, particularly at the hands of people who were supposed to protect and care for her. When she arrives at the Meridian Institute, she finally has the opportunity to begin working through everything she has experienced. The institute takes a very unconventional approach to healing, incorporating kink and other forms of therapy into the process, and I found Ayla’s journey incredibly compelling.
She doesn’t suddenly become healed because she has found a safe place. Watching her slowly find her strength again, learn to trust, and begin to understand herself was one of my favorite parts of the entire story. Her growth felt gradual and meaningful, and I loved seeing the woman underneath all the trauma begin to emerge.
And then there are the men.
Ayla develops relationships with her therapists, Thane and Reid, and eventually Giovanni and Declan become part of the picture as well. Yes, our girl somehow ends up with **four men falling for her**, and somehow the author makes this complicated situation work.
Thane, Reid, Giovanni, and Declan each bring something different to Ayla and to the story. I loved watching them develop individually while also seeing their feelings for Ayla deepen. They become more than just love interests as the story progresses, and I found myself becoming increasingly attached to all of them.
The emotional development was probably my favorite aspect. Every time I thought the characters had reached a new level of healing or connection, something else would happen that pushed them even further. There are heartbreaking moments, but there are also scenes that made me smile and even moments that had me laughing when I desperately needed the break from the heavier parts.
And yes, there is plenty of spice, but it feels like it belongs within the larger story rather than being there simply for the sake of heat. The BDSM elements are intertwined with Ayla’s journey, relationships, trust, and exploration of what she wants and needs.
What really surprised me was how invested I became in everyone’s growth. I started the book wanting to know what would happen to Ayla, but by the end, I was equally invested in Thane, Reid, Giovanni, and Declan. Watching these characters become more open, caring, and connected was incredibly rewarding.
I honestly struggled to put this book down. It managed to be dark without losing its tenderness, emotional without becoming completely overwhelming, and spicy while still giving the characters and their relationships plenty of substance.
There’s trauma, loss, grief, family, healing, love, humor, warmth, and a whole lot of complicated feelings packed into this story. It came remarkably close to being everything I want from a dark romance.
The Meridian Institute is off to a powerful start, and after that ending, I absolutely need to know what Book 2 has waiting for me.
I’m already invested in Ayla, Thane, Reid, Giovanni, and Declan, and I am very much ready for more.
🖤𝓺𝓾𝓸𝓽𝓮𝓼🖤 “Pretty girl, we are all a little broken inside.”
“If there is going to be blood, get naked first.”
“The monsters in the dark failed to break me, and my men are the only ones who will ever be able to tame me.”
🖤 𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓮𝔀🖤 This is a ridiculously spicy first book in the Meridian Institute that quickly sets the mood, even if the setting of the institute is only a fraction of the story. The character dynamic is riveting. The bonds shared between her and her men develops at a steady and rapid paced. It’s an insta-love dark why choose novel that always keeps you guessing on what is going to happen next.
*spoilers* Ayla has known nothing but abuse from the male authority figures in her life. Her own father sexual assaulted her after her mother’s death during childbirth. Her professor when all had asked for was a letter of recommendation. Causing her to become highly suspicious about every male that comes across her. But after a nearly fatal suicide attempt, she is brought into the Meridian Institute.
It’s there that she is introduced to Reid, who explains that the institute isn’t like a mental asylum with monitored medication. But is BDSM centered to help those coping with sexual tendencies. Her’s being that she is extremely intolerant in sexual situations and they want to help her feel more secure. More in control with their means of medical and sometimes… punishment.
Once done with her treatment at the facility, she is finally tasked with being back in the real world. Moving back into the home that once belonged to her deceased father, who died from a heart attack mid stroke. She wanted to believe her men would still want her but didn’t have the audacity to speak about the matter. It’s not until her home is broken into that they start to fear the worse for her.
And it happens. On the way to getting a pregnancy test with Giovanni, an old lover from her past who still retains feelings for her after all these years. Well, the guys that have been following my her and giving her threats finally take her. And behold, he has a lot to do with Thane. And he’ll do anything to get his revenge in all the worst ways imaginable. But with the help of a new friend, she manages to escape even through the horrendous acts she’s forced to partake in.
🖤𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓵𝓵🖤 Emily Klepp has SET THE MOOD for the entire rest of the series as this has more than enough heavy smut, trauma, and a new found family… not to mention growing family… to keep you anticipating the next book in the series. If you’re looking for a book that’ll make you feel like you need a hot shower afterwards, this is that book! Tame Me is a spectacularly paced novel with unbelievable twists and turns that end in a happily ever after.

*****PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE DIVING IN******
What a way to start an interconnected series!!
This book had my mind in a whirlwind and my emotions running wild right from the start. These characters had me in a chokehold. We see 3 characters all with different demons they are facing, and all with secrets that they want to keep that way.
We find our FMC Ayla, facing some harrowing issues straight from the start. But in a twist of fate the decisions she makes as a part of coping has led her to The Meridian Institute. And to Reid and Thane.
Reid is Ayla's therapist she met while in a previous facility, he suggests that Ayla come to the Institute when released. He's smart and accomplished but has demons of his own. His past is very similar to Ayla's and he too has contemplated leaving the world he's lived in. Now he is being taken advantage off and used, because of his past, by his current girlfriend and it's getting worse. So much so he'd rather be at the Institute. It's also one of the reasons he has fallen for Ayla.
Thane is the owner of the Meridian Institute, and Reids best friend since childhood. While he has no demons like Ayla and Reid he is holding something close to his vest and no one, apart from Reid, knows that secret. He's spent years hiding from that secret and only once Ayla is threatened does he use that secret to its full advantage.
Reid and Thane are there to teach Ayla how to cope with her emotions relating to the events that have happened to her in a non-traditional way, through the art of BDSM. Ayla needs to be trained that when things get hard in her life, she needs to find alternate ways of coping. When the two men fall in love with Ayla and Ayla falls in love with them, that's where she finally learns that she can be pushed to exploring a side of herself that felt abhorrent previously.
The placement complete and Ayla is on her own in the real world. She struggles to be back in the real world but little does she know, her own apprehension is the least of her worries. Then she bumps into a friend from her past, Giovanni, they grew up together but got separated after high school. Giovanni has come back just at the right time in Aylas transition back to her new normal and is a welcome addition.
Someone wants revenge against Thane, and they know that Ayla is associated with Thane and plot a kidnapping. The three men must work together to find her before its to late. And finally, Thane's secret is revealed as he has to call on some people from his past to help find her.
It gets more complicated when we learn the true identities of all the parties involved and the interconnections that are involved and who is the good guy and the bad guy in this whole story. Trust me when I say ending will have you in shock.
5 Stars!!! Can't wait to dive more into this series

Tame Me by Emily Klepp is DARK—and I mean "check your triggers before you even think about opening this one" dark. But underneath everything this book throws at you is a story about survival, control, trust, and learning that surrender can mean something completely different when it's finally your choice.
Ayla comes to Meridian carrying more trauma than anyone should ever have to survive. She grew up in an incredibly abusive home and, after escaping that life, experienced another devastating trauma while in college that eventually led to her being hospitalized. When she's released, she finds herself at the Meridian Institute, an unconventional facility that incorporates BDSM into helping people work through trauma and reclaim control over their lives.
And that's where things get interesting. 👀
Thane is the owner of Meridian and brings that commanding, dominant presence you'd expect—but there's so much more going on beneath the surface. Reid already has a connection to Ayla from before Meridian, while Gio comes with a history that reaches all the way back to her childhood. I really enjoyed how different each man's connection with Ayla felt instead of them all filling the same role.
The relationship dynamics, BDSM elements, and Ayla's journey kept me invested, but this book definitely doesn't stay safely inside the walls of Meridian. Things get dark there are twists I wasn't expecting, and Ayla is put through absolute hell. I won't say anything else because there are some developments you NEED to experience without knowing they're coming.
Ayla herself is a force to be reckoned with. After everything she's survived, she isn't written as someone waiting for these men to simply save her. She's damaged, complicated, sometimes messy, and still fighting to decide what happens to her own body and her own life, and I found that to be the most beautiful part of the story.
The monsters might break her, but they're sure as hell not going to tame her.🖤
⚠️ TRIGGER WARNINGS: Childhood sexual abuse/incest, rape/sexual assault, abusive parent, physical and emotional abuse, BDSM, trauma/PTSD themes, psychiatric hospitalization, kidnapping/captivity, sexual violence, pregnancy-related trauma, violence, murder/death, organized crime/mafia themes, blood/gore, and other extremely dark subject matter.

In true Emily Klepp style, Tame me is a book of childhood trauma by the MFC and two of the MMC's that leads to healing and trust in one another, written well with much respect to #mentalhealthmatters. A Meridian Institute story interwoven with other side characters that we have me in a previous story. The mesh of the different authors blends well as the story moves on from Tabitha, one of the Psychiatrists at the facility and onto Thane Meridian, owner and Psychiatrist and Reid, the third Psychiatrist at the facility. This is Ayla's story of healing from her past trauma, repair of her Mental capacity and helping her move on from wanting to end it all, to realising there is more to life that what she has been exposed to. Reid hands her care over to Thane, knowing his love for her, but allowing his best friend to help her heal. He just didn't realise how hard it would be for him to allow another man to be with her. Thane soon realises that Reid has feelings for Ayla, and not knowing where she stands as both Reid and Ayla have been working at repairing the damage done to her mental health for the past year whilst she was in another Mental Institution, he offers up a solution. That they both work with Ayla, if she permits! She does! Ayla can admit to her feelings, but also has a lot of issues that both men help her work through. One is her being a brat and her anger management issues, which in BDSM scenarios can play out in many ways. A six week course sees Ayla come out the other side a new woman. Mostly healed and very much in love with Thane and Reid. What happens when she is left to go out into the big wide world on her own. Ayla knows she needs this, but cannot accept that Thane and Reid let her walk away from them. Enter Gio, her old neighbour and best friend growing up. He sees that she has returned to her childhood home, and lets it be know he is Very Pleased To See Her!! So then there is three men in her life! All Dominants, and Bisexual! Yay for Ayla! A why choose dark BDSM romance that shows the inner turmoil of a woman that has seen a lot and been through a lot, but is a survivor. Loved the whole entire story, even the dark bits, and especially the naughty bits LOL. Plenty of steam and spice, that is consensual, but still the dark side where rape is considered the norm for some men! Definitely be aware of the TW's before embarking on this dark romance, but if like me and nothing triggers me, place this on your TBR list!! Worth It!!

This one is a dark BDSM romance that follows Ayla, a woman who has been through an immense amount of trauma, with most of the abuse coming from her father. After another assault from her professor, she finds herself in a very dark place and a warning that this does include self-harm.
After getting some help, Ayla isn’t sure she’s ready to face the reality of everyday life. That’s when she discovers a program recommended by her psychiatrist and ends up at the Meridian Institute. Here, BDSM is used alongside therapy to help people dealing with trauma, anxiety and mental health struggles learn how to express themselves and work through what they’ve experienced.
Ayla is assigned a Dom, Thane, and alongside her psychiatrist, Reid, these two help her work through her trauma and develop techniques to process her emotions instead of turning to self-harm.
I absolutely loved the three of them together! 🥰 As the story progresses, we also learn that Thane and Reid have their own trauma and triggers they’re still dealing with. I loved seeing them all support one another, slowly heal and eventually fall in love. And we might get a couple of extra additions to this little group along the way that only make things even better 😏
There is a LOT of triggering material throughout this book, so definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in. It deals with some very heavy themes and gets incredibly dark at times, but there are also beautiful moments and plenty that made me laugh.
I really loved this book and absolutely flew through it!

What a wild ride! Tame Me is the first book in The Meridian Rehabilitation Institute and it really set the standard. Tame Me was heavy on the trauma but full of healing, spice, and so many twists. Ayla was heinously mistreated and abused by her father starting at a young age. She was able to somewhat escape when she went to college. And then one night she finally rids herself from her father but in a very unsuspecting way but his abuse will continue to haunt her. Ayla is a survivor and extremely intelligent. She is getting her masters in psychology. Her pos professor decides to take advantage of her in exchange for a letter of recommendation. Because of everything Ayla has been through she spirals and ends up in a mental health facility. Her psychiatrist is Dr. Reid Holmes who is also one of the leads at The Meridian Institute. He convinces Ayla that The Institute would be a good place for her to seek more help. At the Meridian, Ayla retains Reid as her psychiatrist and gets his best friend and owner of The Institute Thane Meridian as her trainer. Ayla is rightfully angry about what has been done to her. As a result she is very blunt, gets angered easily, and likes to brat. But Thane and Reid know exactly how to push her and work with her to help. Reid and Thane are also working through past trauma of their own. Their love, patience, and support of each other helps them heal. They are willing to do literally anything for each other (IYKYK). This story is a why-choose! I really enjoyed the banter and dynamic between ALL of the main characters. Ayla went through so much I am glad she was able heal, find love and happiness, and even a bit of revenge. I absolutely loved everything about this book. I wholeheartedly recommend reading Ayla's story. Once again, CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!
When I saw this book series announced I just knew I needed to read them. Tame Me did not disappoint! I didn't fully know what to expect, but can Klepp write a phenomenal story!
I felt every emotion reading this book, this is NOT a series for the faint of heart. The triggers are extreme and heavy. Know your limits. But d@mn was Tame Me unique and so incredibly empowering.
I love a good spicy book, and don't get me wrong there is plenty especially when the FMC falls for multiple men; but the connection and healing through Bd$M hits differently. In the best possible way. 🍇 is a major theme in Tame Me, and those scenes left me gutted. But the reclamation? Of not just the FMC but the MMCs was raw, delicate, gritty and f*%#!%# beautiful. Trauma can overtake one's life, but Klepp lets her characters go on a healing journey that is unlike anything I've read before. You'll laugh, cry and maybe even scream at the book like I did.
At times I literally was at the edge of my seat during some scenes, this book is filled with twists and turns that I never would have anticipated. But it made me love the book that much more! Amazing start to the interconnected series, I can't wait to see what comes next.
Ayla endured some horrific events in her life. It is sad to realize that these events happened at a young age and by people she thought she could trust.
"The monsters in the dark failed to break me, and my men are the only ones who will ever be able to tame me."
So glad that there is a place like Meridian Institute that Ayla could go to help her through her trauma. The two men that do this for her are Reid and Thane. They help Ayla break through her trauma and build herself back up again only stronger. Later, the group grows with the additions of Giovanni, and Declan.
What a start to this series. It only seems fitting that the first book to kick off this series is by Emily Klepp. I am a fan of her writing. Due to the nature of this series, there is a delicate balance that needs to be taken, and I thought Emily found that good balance.
Please check trigger warnings before proceeding!!!
Ayla our main character has been through so much and is such a survivor but when it becomes too much who is there to help her?
In Ayla's journey of healing she is referred to the Meridian institute after a year-long stay in an inpatient mental health hospital. At the Meridian Institute clients are helped to reclaim their sexuality by working through their trauma in a BDSM situation. While at the institute she connects with two men who explore and help her reclaim her life and sexuality.
My over all option of the book was that it was enjoyable. Yes it has a lot of heavy topics but I enjoyed the characters and the characters interconnect-ness. I found the pacing to be different but it fit for the story that was being told .
Warning please read triggers. Your mental health matters.
Some characters you simply read about, and then there are characters you feel. Ayla was definitely the latter for me. Ayla emotional journey completely pulled me in. I felt her hurt, her vulnerability, her fears, and the moments when she struggled to find her own strength. What really got me was watching her slowly find pieces of herself again and learn that being vulnerable doesn’t make her weak. I found myself rooting for Ayla in a way that felt surprisingly personal. I wanted Ayla to heal, to grow, and most of all, to finally believe she deserved happiness. When I finished Ayla story, I felt like I was saying goodbye to someone I had come to genuinely care about. Ayla will stay with me for a while, and I think that’s the most beautiful thing a character can do—leave a little piece of herself behind in your heart.
WOW. Having read many stories by Ms. Klepp, I knew going in, this would be intense. And, true to form, it was indeed.
Despite everything, Ayla was working to better herself. Then a horrific, triggering episode leads her to meeting Reid.
The Meridian Institute has the goal of re-integrating Ayla into the real world again. Reid assigns Thane her trainer.
I don't want to give anything away. But eventually, her childhood best friend becomes a part of her life. Lovely Giovanni! And then Thane's brother Declan.
Will Ayla have to choose? Will the Meridian Institute succeed?
This one is dark, messy and chaotic. The emotions that I felt when reading this one was intense and oh my gosh, I could not stop. Ayla has been through so much and the amount of trauma she has endured is way more then anyone should have to deal with. After another assault from a professor she tries to end everything. After getting the help she needs, she agrees to go to Meridian Institute where her trainer is none other then Thane. Her psychiatrist is Reid. They both help her and the heal. We also get to meet Gio and the four of them are perfect.
This book has a lot of triggers and is not for the faint of heart. I will happily read it again and recommend it.
Let me tell you, this book went hard right from the start. The way these characters literally ripped my heart out more than once is crazy. I loved every second of this read and consumed it in one day. It was all I wanted to be doing. Everything else could f off. I found myself fast-reading, attempting to skip to see what happened next because I was just too excited, and I had to go back and reread lol. The way Ayla dealt with everything that was thrown at her... including all the cocks was wonderful. I highly recommend this book!
Tame Me was a non-stop thrill ride. Ayla goes to Meridian Institute to help after her traumatic past, a suicide attempt, and a psychiatric hospital stay. There, she meets Dr. Reid and her trainer, Thane, who work with her on trust, stopping self-harm, and authority issues using elements of bd$m. This story is full of excitement. It has action, suspense, danger, romance, and twists and turns you won't see coming. Oh, and some hot, spicy fun. There are some great MMCs and a strong FMC who has been to hell and back but is stronger than she knows. This is one of Klepp's best.
Ayla has known abusive men all her life to the point that she decides to end it. Luckily, she is not successful and is admitted to a BDSM treatment facility to create better coping mechanisms by having her take control of her sexual situations. What I always like about EK's female characters is that don't let what they have endured define them -- they always find their inner strength and overcome what held them down.
This is a great start to the series, and I look forward to the next book.
This is the first story in The meridian institute shared world. Please read the trigger warnings before starting this story. This story gripped me right from the start i love how the author shows that any gender can be a victim of S/A i will admit that part broke me and i sobbed for that character. I adore how strong the characters in this story are especially the female character she goes through so much. I loved the ending and i really hope we hear from these characters again in the other stories.
The story centers around Ayla, who had a rough childhood and is abused by a professor when she asks for a recommendation letter. After attempting self-harm, she ends up in a mental facility where she meets two men, each dealing with his own trauma. Up until this point, I was really into it, but when Ayla went all vigilante, the story lost its focus for me. The last few pages felt like they were just meant to stir up drama, as they didn't add anything to the plot other than adding another man to her harem.
A fantastic start to the meridian institute series from emily
This book hit hard from the get go, it's dark and emotionally intense with heavy triggers, but underneath all that trauma theres a beautiful story of strength and healing.
The relationships that evolve between the fmc and the 4 men worked beautifully, which each of them bringing something diffrent to the story.
But they dont just find healing through BDSM they form a deep bond of trust, love and support for one another that really invests you in their journey.
Holy hell. That was a great start to the series. I felt all thr emotions. Ayla was out through hell from the start but boy did she come out on top. The guys are absolutely perfect for her and so damn caring. They was a few twists in there i didn't expect, but as with any book from Emily, you really never know what you're getting into! I can't wait to continue the series and learn more about the Meridian Institute.
As always Emily knows just how to hit where it hurts. CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS. Ayla has been through horrific things in her life that just seem to never end. My heart hurt for her through most kd this book. Thane & Reid had my heart from the beginning. The play in this book, top 10 for sure. The whole premise of this institute is a very interesting take. I cant wait to see where the other books take me.
Ayla is a psychology student who is torn between working with children and working with criminals. Not until a traumatic assault lead her to meet her Doctor.
The story is definitely a mixture of fire, blood and spice. Reading this is much better than watching BDSM porno.
If you're into the Fifty Shades series, then this story is for you. Read at your own risk!
This book is a page turner. Definitely make sure you follow the trigger warnings as this book can be highly triggering. Some parts of the story seem repetitive but they are definitely not and tie into the whole story line. The ending sent me for a loop that is for sure. This involves lots of spicy scenes and reminds me of a triple x rated 50 shades of grey but with more characters and involvement.
Tame Me is dark but oh so good. The pain and emotion that Ayla goes through you can feel. The acts of assault she goes through is something so many do and should never have to. The love she finally finds in not just 1 person (read to find out how many.) Is the type of love everyone truly wants. This is the first book in the Meridian Institute shared world. I highly recommend but please check your triggers! I cant wait to continue this world!
This was amazing! I loved how this story started and it developed with nice pace with lots of character development especially on Ayla’s side. I fell for Thane and Reid from the beginning! They were so good to her. They struggled themselves but found balance with Ayla between. When the relationship evolved in the end with two more added to mix, it just made everything better. The plot was amazing and had its twist. I think it was well written without any issues with the storyline.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
4.5 ⭐️
This book was a wild ride!! A woman learning how to function and cope after going through a life filled with trauma. Just when everything seemed like it was going to be ok....there was a twist. Then her men had to trust that everything she had been taught would help her. I was clinging to the edge of my seat as I frantically read to find out what would happen.
