Some monsters don’t need to escape. They just need someone who understands them.
Raven Moreau has spent her entire life surviving.
Control is the only thing that’s ever kept the storm inside her quiet. After brutally murdering the woman she loved and the man who stole her away, Raven is declared mentally stable enough to leave the state psychiatric hospital, but not free enough to return to society.
Instead, she’s sent to Axiom Institute, an elite forensic facility that specializes in rebuilding the minds everyone else has written off.
Her psychologist is Dr. Amara Sterling.
Brilliant, patient , yet Impossible to read.
Amara has worked with killers before, but none who look at her the way Raven does.. as if she’s a puzzle to solve… or an obsession waiting to happen.
What begins as rehabilitation quickly becomes something neither of them anticipated.
Because Raven doesn’t just want to understand Amara.
She wants to unravel her.
But the closer Amara gets to the woman she’s supposed to help, the more dangerous it becomes to remember which one of them is actually the patient.

Did that make what she did right? Absolutely not. Did it justify her? Maybe. Did I fall for her because she turned out to be a softie inside who just wanted to feel safe, had a tragic background, and was so gentle when it came to her girl? 1000% yes 🤡 "𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙭 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨; 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨." Asylum type stories have always been one of my favourite setting tropes. What could go wrong in a place where everyone needs medication and the lines between doctors and patients are constantly blurring, right? RIGHT? In this book, there's a lot happening. You name it. Ethical violations. Some taboo shit. Stalking. A friend who once beat his father to death. And ooooh, did I mention some serious therapy sessions? ✨ Without clothes ✨ What can I say? Amara and Raven seemed to like getting to know each other on a deeper level ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯ "𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚." "𝙄'𝙢 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙣." Soooo, I have mixed feelings about Mad Love. On one hand, this is a good story. I ate it up in two days. I stayed up late to read this. Every time I reached the end of a chapter, there was always something that made me scroll down just to see what happened next 🙂🤌 The dynamic between these women was delicious. I would say this is insta attraction since Amara and Raven immediately eyed each other like, mmmm, hello mysterious lady 👀 But I wouldn't say it's instalove, which was a plus. Raven held herself back, while Amara was determined to draw a line between them [Spoiler: she's failed hehe] I enjoyed watching them slowly develop their relationship. But on the other hand, I struggled a little with the writing. For the majority of the book, Mad Love is very dialogue heavy, while I'm more of a narration type girlie. I'd say around 70% of the book is dialogue, which I understand is necessary to keep the sessions moving and prevent the book from dragging. Still, I wouldn't have minded if the portions were a little more balanced. Ofc, this is just a matter of personal taste. "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚?" "𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙙𝙤." There were also parts where Axiom felt a little ... Ugh, unrealistic??? 😬 The patients were allowed to have phones, roam around freely, and stay in what basically felt like a hotel. Sometimes I forgot that the setting was supposed to be a mental health facility. This place basically needed no fence because who wouldn't run away from somewhere where you don't have to work, have access to your phone, and get your own private room and bathroom? That's basically a dream apartment for me 🤨 *insert Katniss' meme here* I VOLUNTEER AS A TRIBUTE!! But maybe it's just convenient for the plot? Idk, man ;)) I still enjoyed the book, though. I especially liked Amara's decision at the end, where she chose to do the right thing. I think that's what makes this different from the usual MF bullshit romance: the woman actually takes accountability. I love it for her. Now I just have to wait and see what Raven will do to get her girl back. Go get her, Raven. I'll be your cheerleader for the next book 🎉 “𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙄 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙫𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡.” This is Mad Love, indeed.
Firstly, I adored the author's note and it was such an important distinction for Antisocial Personality Disorder in a fictionalised setting. As authors, we exaggerate, do things for dramatic storytelling, but we are also inspired by real life things. So yes, Mad Love includes a character with ASPD, but it is also a fictional representation of that. I also loved the dedication. That is why we read 🫶🏻
This is a F/F dark romance between a psychologist and their patient, set in a relaxed research like facility with relative freedom and compassion to the patients.
The chemistry between Amara and Raven is there from the start - not sexually, but they bounce off each other in this fantastic battle of wits that really showcases the author's ability to hit you with zingy one liners. I absolutely loved the rapid fire of the first interview. Their chemistry just seems on burning from there.
Lucas is just a fantastic best friend character. I'd love to explore him more and the other cast of characters in other books. I appreciate that this is already a spin off from Blood on the Apple (the cameos were much appreciated), but I feel like there is so much to explore here! That's probably just the greedy reader in me though 👀
The only reason why this dropped the last 1/4 of a star for me is because I felt like the pacing did not do a scene justice around the 60% mark. I think greater build up of the characterisation would have made reactions feel more natural. Don't get me wrong, I loved the scene, but it took a little bit of the realness away from me. I know that's a little ridiculous given that this is fiction and things are exaggerated, but personally it just felt a little OOC for where we were in the character arc.
Now let's talk sub/Dom dynamics and representation of BDSM in dark romance. Communication. Consent. Trust. Aftercare. It's as simple as that. Consent means stopping at a safe word for either party. As soon as a safe word is uttered or non-verbal equivalent, that is the withdrawal of consent. Raven and Amara embody this. Thank you Rebekah, for presenting BDSM right. Don't get me wrong, I love to read pitch black and often MISUSE of BDSM goes hand in hand with that, but it should be flagged as such and it worries me sometimes that readers who do not read the author's note or understand researched dynamics may believe that is the norm. This - this is Sub/Dom done right.
If you like a tamer version of Joker/Harley, these are the vibes. Honestly cannot recommend this enough 🖤 however...check your triggers - our characters are shaped by childhood trauma.
I had the pleasure of ARC reading this, but my reviews are honestly and voluntary. Thank you to the author. A captivating read!
Raven a new patient at Axiom, who got rid of her girlfriend and then went to prison. Dr. Amara Sterling the resident therapist thinks she can figure her out. Teach her how to be normal again even though im not sure she ever was. Will Amara be ok when she starts wondering if Raven is actually flirting with her.Every time I read a book by Rebekah Lynn I should always expect some spice and lots of deep emotion.I did feel this was a slow burn but an intense slow burn. I need so much more of their story.
Mad Love surprised me in the best way. Amara and Raven pulled me into their story much more quickly than I expected, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop alongside everything else happening around them. There is plenty of darkness and complicated history woven through this world, but the connection between these two became the part I was most invested in.
And then we got to that ending. This is technically a non-HEA as it stands, but I would put a very large emphasis on as it stands. It isn’t the kind of ending that leaves you staring blankly at the wall questioning why you trusted an author with your feelings, but it absolutely left me requiring the rest of Amara and Raven’s story. There are things here that are very much unfinished, and now I need to know where they go from here.
This book had me absolutely and utterly madly in love. I was hooked from page one and stayed invested until long after I had finished reading it. It consumed my heart, mind, and soul. And I have no qualms about it. I would do it over and over again. Raven and Amara are all encompassing. With each other and with me. This story broke my heart more than once. It has tension and drama and despair and guilt and fear. And every other emotion you can possibly think of. But it also had deep love and dedication. They see each other for who they truly are and accept it. And that is so beautiful. Their connection is so raw and real and painful. Oh and my god that ending!!!! It will leave you emotional wrung out and out to dry. I was wrecked. I loved it. And now I absolutely need the next book to know what happens! I am not okay with not knowing.
Did I absolutely devour this book entirely in almost a single sitting? Yes I did. I was completely captured from the very beginning, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, I didn’t realize how invested in this I would be. How invested in both Amara & Raven I would be. I knew this book ended on a cliffhanger, it was right there written down and I was prepared for it… or so I thought. I definitely was not prepared for the heartbreak that would come with it so that being said.. I hope there’s redemption in the second book 😂
Look - there is nothing this author puts out that hasn’t been less than fantastic! She just keeps pulling everyone into her stories. This was another emotional roller coaster you can’t miss! The tension, raw emotion, and anxiety you feel when you read these characters in this story make you feel like you are there. You can’t put the book down. I loved the ending! I know many will disagree but it leads to a great second book and can’t wait to see what will happen next! Run to check this one out!
You know…idk why Rebekah Lynn isn’t talked about more. She does such a great job.
I read The Monster Within & Blood on the Apple, which was like a dark fairytale reimagining, and it was SO good. So when I saw this was Book 2 in the Popular Monster series, I may or may not have made some assumptions about this one…and that’s why I wanted to read it.
Well…you know what they say about assumptions?? Yeah.
Didn’t read the synopsis. Didn’t read the triggers. Didn’t read the author’s notes. That’s on me.
Regardless, this was a really good read. It was dark, emotional, and just a wild ride. I also really appreciated the way Rebekah Lynn handled mental illness in this book. She writes about it in a way that feels respectful and thoughtful.
As someone who doesn’t usually read sapphic books, I honestly didn’t mind this one. If anything, this had me so invested that I completely forgot about my usual preferences. So, kudos to Rebekah Lynn for taking all my assumptions and expectations and shoving them down my throat with this one because here I am, wondering when we can get the next book after that cliffhanger.
As someone who shares the same name as one of the main characters and the same profession as the other, I’m somewhat ashamed at the way I devoured this book! I understand Raven’s and Amara’s point of view, but I judge them both for some of the choices they made. However, the judgement didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book because it was interesting and hot af!
I loved the characters and how they were depicted. The book laid everything out perfectly. It’s an easy and relatively quick read.
Mad love is written so well. The slow build of the relationship between Amara and Raven was amazing. This Joker and Harley retelling was a delicious read. Raven has been left and disappointed by everyone in her life and Amara wants to be the one that shows her she can stay. They found one another at a terrible time and they will have to find each other at a better time when there isn't an ethical problem with their relationship.
Mad Love was dark, obsessive, messy and completely unhinged. I loved it!
Raven is dangerous, sarcastic, possessive and definitely morally gray. She has made some terrible choices but there is also so much trauma and vulnerability hidden beneath the version of herself she shows everyone. The dual point of view made it interesting to see how differently Raven and Amara understood their growing connection, especially as the professional boundaries between them slowly began to disappear.
And those two together were hot! Raven and Amara had so much chemistry and I really enjoyed the dominant and submissive dynamic between them. Their relationship is forbidden and extremely complicated, especially because Amara is Raven’s therapist but I couldn’t look away.
I also loved Raven’s friendship with Lucas. Their banter brought some much needed humor to the darker story, while their quieter conversations showed a softer side of Raven that she tried very hard to hide. Lucas accepted her without constantly judging her or demanding explanations and I enjoyed watching that friendship develop.
And that ending? Completely cruel! I really hate cliffhangers and this one left me with so many questions. I really hope there will be another book because I need answers!
Absolutely love this book. Amara and Raven remind me so much of Joker and Harley Quinn. The banter between these two is so funny, Raven is so sassy. I can't wait til book two to find out what happens next
I LOVE this book and I’m dying to get the next book so I can find out what happens! Raven is dark, disturbing, and delicious. Amara is one of the most solid characters I’ve ever read. I really want them to have a beautiful life together 🥲
At this point, I don't even need to read the book description to know if I want to read it... If Rebekah Lynn has written it then I have to read it. This has been an amazing experience from the second I opened the book. Check the trigger warnings and grab a copy asap.
This book had me HOOKED. 🖤 A killer spent her entire life surviving and not thriving, meets a psychologist who sees her as more than just a killer and what starts as therapy slowly turns into something dark, obsessive, and dangerously intimate. The tension, the psychological mind games, the morally gray characters… I ate this up. 🖤🔥
3.3 ⭐️Thank you to the author for allowing me to read the advanced copy of this book. I enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down at times. That being said, I wish that Amara and Raven had a more robust connection. The spice was well done but felt rushed. I easily feel that the themes could be explored deeper within this book.
I read this as an ARC and this is my honest review. First off, this does not have an HEA. There were some inconsistencies and the dialoge was a little choppy at times, but overall I enjoyed this book. Until the end. There's no resolution, and it almost felt like reading half a book. It looks like there is a second book planned, so that's good.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
i'm in tears. floods of tears. i didn't think the ending would break me as much as it did.
i don't even know what to say but this review is just a mash up of my feelings, oh my god i can't stop crying. this book has shattered me, it has shattered a part of me. oh my god.
the fact i picked this up today so insanely innocently and now i am a mere few hours later in tears and probably a changed person because that. that is something so special. my heart. no seriously my heart is shattered.
this was the most beautifully gut wrenching sapphic story i have ever read. i knew i loved queer stories more than anything but sapphic will forever hold such a painfully raw part of my heart, and too read this. the heart ache im feeling is indescribable.
characters : these characters. amara.. raven.. hell even lucas, they etched themselves into my heart. i knew i would love raven the moment she was on page, but i didn't think i'd feel so strongly towards her, i related to her on almost every level, she felt like a. real raw version of a part of me, i can't explain but i have a massive connected to her she's jumped in my heart literally. and amara, she is just so perfect for her, perfect for everyone. that's the problem. to feel the sheer love they have for each other, you FEEL IT, and lucas, he was one of my favourite side characters i think i've ever read, truly and honestly, i love how although it wasn't his story he appeared so much, and too see the depth of his character go was my favourite, he is literally the best good guy ever😭
plot : such a detailed and painfully real plot line, i don't think i've read a plot line that i relate too quite as muvh as this one, it feels so very real, although a work of fiction, it's so many people's reality and i think that's why it pulls on my heart strings unlike any other. too have the traumatic storyline, mixed with a slightly more unconventional dynamic for me was actually something that really evoked emotions for me, not just because it is a literary masterpiece but because it feels so unbelievably raw and thought out, not only to captivate the audience/readers but to truly tell the truth, ravens truth. and too see her say her truth shattered me, she is a character i've become so fond of. shit i could go on and on. this.. this is why i love the real, the raw, the unfiltered stories. the sapphic stories that aren't perfect, that come from a place of understanding. not hatred. and you get that with this. from start to finish😭❤️🩹
spice : although spicy, don't go into this for spice because i feel it will ruin it for you, this isn't a smutty story, this is a traumatic, raw, unfiltered romance.. depraved, wrong but also beautiful. the explicit FF scenes do most defintely add something to the story but to me it adds something more, it shows trust. it shows character development. it shows truth. and that is far more beautiful. they're hot & spicy but they encased each other in love and trust above all.
overall : easily 5⭐️ would 1000% reccomend anybody who needs a good cry to read this, i cried almost from beginning to end, i fell in love with the characters, i fell in love with the plot and the ending shattered me. the most beautiful cliffhanger i've ever read to be honest, my heart dropped but for these two, it makes sense, the cliff hanger 1000% was needed and is so special in this one! & i'm HOPING that means rebekah has more of them for us, and im praying for lucas and his story also!🥹 best book ever. as queer stories always are💗
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five very emotional stars SPICE: 🌶🌶🌶 Mad Love — Rebekah Lynn
Okay, first of all, Rebekah Lynn left my heart ACHING at the end of this book—and yes, I absolutely told her about it too. 😭
This book was all-consuming.
Raven and Amara completely pulled me into their world, and once I was there, I couldn't put it down. There is so much more happening here than obsession between a patient and her psychologist. This story is full of love, heartbreak, shame, fear, despair, longing, guilt, and that desperate need to be truly seen and understood by another person.
Raven broke my heart in ways I wasn't prepared for. She's complicated, damaged, dangerous, and carrying so much inside of her. Then you have Amara, who is supposed to maintain that professional line between therapist and patient...except those lines start getting very blurry, very quickly.
And that's where this book GOT me.
Because underneath all the darkness, there's something incredibly emotional about two people seeing parts of each other that everyone else either feared, judged, or completely missed.
The obsession is there. The darkness is definitely there. But so is this raw, painful kind of love that had me feeling entirely too much by the time I reached the end.
And THAT ENDING.
Rebekah, we have already discussed your behavior. I'm still not okay. My heart hurt, I wanted more, and I sat there afterward thinking about Raven and Amara instead of immediately moving on to my next book. That's when I know a story really got under my skin. 🖤
I beta read Mad Love, and ommmmg. Did I binge it. I read it within less than 72 hours.
Rebekah do you know how hard it is to do a review with no spoilers?! 👀🤣
TROPES: • 🩺 Medical Professional Heroine • 💀 Touch-Her-and-Die • 💔 Second-Chance Romance • ❤️🩹 Found Family • 🖤 “I Can Fix Her” Energy • ⚖️ Morally Gray / Dangerous Heroine • ⛓️ BDSM • 🚫 Forbidden Therapist/Patient Romance • 🌈 Dark Sapphic Romance
Rebekah's writing is amazing. I found her when she released Blood on the Apple & have been trying to get round to every book lol, so i totally snapped this chance to beta read. I absolutely loved getting first eyes on this story & helped Bek from a readers pov.
Aside from the main characters, Lucas is 10000% my favourite 💚💚💚 If you do anything this year - aside from me screaming read Blood on the Apple. READ MAD LOVE!!! I ain't 1 for Sapphic Romances much, but this was 👌👌👌👌👌👌
Some people think dark romance, smut, and trigger filled books are trash. Nothing good can come from them. Rebekah Lynn's books prove that this is in no way true. Every word is calculated and written in a fair and respectful manner though the subject matter is dark. Sex and violence don't just happen, they are integral to the character's stories and make you love them even more. Rebekah doesn't write about mental illnesses, she tells the stories of the characters that live with these conditions. She makes you fall in love with the person aside from the condition, you feel remorse and empathy for the murderer and it shows that everyone deserves some Mad Love in their life. This is a 5 🌟 read. The only thing I would change is that it would be longer but I wish that for all of the characters in this world I get to live in for a short time while reading. 🖤💜🖤
MAD LOVE BY MY AMAZING AND TALENTED FRIEND REBEKAH LYNN. Release date set for the 30th of September 2026. 5 ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨s. I had the absolute honour of BETA reading this book. I've been with Rebekah ever since her very first book and I'll be here for the long haul. Always. Wow this book is something. Absolutely brilliant. I started this book and seriously didn't want to put it down. I've read it soooo quick. The flow of this book is on point. The characters are so intriguing and you can't help but feel invested within the story. Some scenes were absolute 🔥 Always check the content warning before reading ☺ For me it was like a desert menu Bring on book 2 I need it immediately
I beta read this book and loved every part of it. I even read it in one sitting because I didn’t want to put it down. I absolutely loved Amara & Raven. The conflict Amara had inside of her with her interaction with her patient was so intriguing to read about. I loved seeing Lucas on the side and his interactions with Raven. The woods scene was AMAZING & the ending of this book has me needing more!!
Favorite Quotes:
"You ever love somebody so much..." I whisper. "... that you'd rather watch the whole world burn than let them belong to someone else?"
"Not knowing why you feel something doesn't make the feelings invalid."
People don't fix monsters; they just teach them better manners.
Amara got her degree but it felt more like noose. Graduation wasn’t the weight lifting experience she expected. Fast forward to the Axiom Institute. A new approach to the criminally insane. Instead of bars and schedules, it’s open concept and freedom. Amara finds her place in the system, at least until Raven shows up. A killer with attachment issues and a need to survive. Raven steps up to the plate and meets Amara question for question. Who is analyzing who? Boundaries get crossed and ethical lines blurred as the doctor and the patient find the love they need in each other. But when the lines are crossed someone is bound to get hurt.
Rebekahs stories are always so emotional, and I love how easily she makes you connect with the characters.
Mad Love was no different, it pulled me in from the very beginning and kept me hooked all the way through.
Raven and Amara’s story is filled with tension, emotion, and that psychological edge that had me on edge. I loved the dynamic between them and the way the story slowly pulls you deeper into their world.
And that cliffhanger?! 🥺😭 I need the next book immediately!
If you love emotional, dark, psychological stories with lots of tension, you’ll want to check this one out! 🖤
This story ripped my heart out, stomped all over it, and shoved it back in my chest. Just to string me along with the promise of another book! The flow was perfect, on point. The characters were complex, lovable, detestable, and everything in between. "You ever love somebody so much..... that you'd rather watch the whole world burn than let them belong to someone else?" Just. Wow.
And....The woods! IYKYK.
I am grateful to be one of Bek's beta readers for MAD LOVE.
this book! omfg! Yes! I loved everything about this. The roller coaster of emotions is real! Expect to fall in love with a side character or 2 because I definitely did. Beyond ready for the next book!
