Fleur, a recently divorced hopeless romantic, is trying to move on and find love again. She moves to Maldon, joins a book club, and meets Henry in the most awkward way possible—while he’s yelling at a pharmacist. Not exactly the meet-cute you’d hope for.
Henry, the male main character, was a real let-down. He’s single and super against love, but he’s also rude, verbally abusive, and just plain insufferable. One minute he's charming, the next he's ice-cold. He’s pretty mean to Fleur and his elderly great-aunt Eunice throughout the book. Honestly, he’s a walking red flag 🚩
Never Too Late started off with a lot of promise but, unfortunately, it went downhill pretty quickly. The plot was cringey and predictable, relying heavily on the miscommunication trope. It just wasn’t for me.
That said, please don't let this review discourage you from giving it a shot if you're curious. Hannah Lynn is a talented author, and I’ve really enjoyed her other works. If you’re new to her writing, I recommend checking out her The Holly Berry Sweet Shop series, starting with The Sweet Shop of Second Chances.

Moving to a small village, working remote, joining a book club, and fending off her sister’s attempts to have a fortieth birthday party are all part of a reset for a newly divorced woman starting over. Hannah Lynn is a new to me author, but I didn’t hesitate when I was offered her tender grumpy-sunshine series opener.
Never Too Late is the first in the Lonely Hearts Book Club series featuring a small group of booklovers who’ve found themselves unlucky in love.
Fleur once worked in a city office making due with the rut her work and life were in. After the painful divorce, she takes steps to put some vitality back in her world. She moves to the quaint seaside town of Malden, working mostly from home, and only lacks new acquaintances for it all to be perfect. This is solved when the manager at the café she goes to for coffee and delicious cake talks her into attending their local book club.
That very day, Fleur had an antagonistic encounter with a guy only to discover he’s the great-nephew of one of her new bookclub friends. Eunice spots the chance to matchmake for Henry when she spots Fleur.
Henry is a divorce lawyer who doesn’t believe in love especially that mushy stuff his aunt and her book club read. And, he most certainly has no intentions of being pushed into something with the opinionated woman who called him out at the pharmacy.
But, slowly and with some painful stops and starts, Henry and Fleur get to know each other and Fleur sees beyond Henry’s prickly exterior what keeps him distant from people and Henry discovers that Fleur’s hope in happily ever after is rather endearing if not for him.
Never Too Late is more Chick Lit than romance as its just as much about Fleur and Henry figuring out life, Fleur making a new life for herself. The bookclub meetings and growing group of friends and the village shops and settings were a treat.
The romance doesn’t really get underway until later in the story and is series of painful experiences until both, particularly Henry, are in a place where they are ready for a relationship. Henry was cranky and distant and not anyone’s idea of a romance hero, but Fleur in her understanding way sees something in him even when he’s hurt her. She’s got no reason in the world to allow chances after the way her ex-husband treated her, but she’s generous and does.
And, so, I enjoyed this soft-paced warmhearted story of a group of bookloving friends, a delightful village setting, and a pair at cross purposes. Brit Chicklit fans should slip this one on the pile.

This is a quick read about two people around the age of forty who hate each other on sight. It's very predictable and won't linger in my memory.

Fun story with a great ending. Aunt Eunice is a hoot. Annalise is smarter than Fleur gives her credit for, but she is annoying. Fleur and Henry have very different views on life and work, colored by past experiences. They are both hesitant to get involved in a relationship, Henry much more so than Fleur. How they resolve their differences makes the story move along. Enjoyed this free introduction to the author book. Other characters in the book have stories in other books of the series that I will be checking out.

I read this book in a week which is so unlike me. It usually takes me a couple of months per book! With my new kindle I can take it with me anywhere which helps. But I also found this book hard to put down. I wasn’t sure at the beginning that I would like it because the lead male character seemed like an arrogant arse, but as it went on and we saw another side to him I got well and truly into it and his romance with Fleur

A lovely closed door, slow burn romance. It is very well written and has a lovely cast of characters. And is very easy to read. I would have liked more from the epilogue, but it was far too short, barely nine pages, which is available to download separately from the book.

This was a lovely story about how one woman's patience and willingness to truly understand another beyond their facade helps break through adamantine walls of disbelief and mistrust over the power of love. Fleur is 40, divorced, yet still has high hopes that she will find the right man who will love her deeply and fully for who she is. She meets Henry, the disbeliever, and despite his mean and arrogant attitude, she sees past the veneer and actually finds someone who is extremely caring and loyal. With patience and keen understanding, Fleur lets Henry know why he is the way he is and offers him no blame, only an assurance that she will be there for him should he ever decide to finally let someone in. For his part, Henry eventually realizes the gift that is right in front of him, and is finally able to make the decision to accept the risk of vulnerability for a real chance of a meaningful love relationship.

I'm of two minds about this book. On the one hand I really enjoyed the way the story and relationship progress slowly (getting to know more about the characters past with each chapter) on the other I feel like even when things worked up for them in the end, it's still are not what I would aspire for in a realitionship.
I think Fleur sometimes comes as a bit to harsh to herself and others, like when she gets mad with her sister or stops herself from going after what she wants in her job. Henry on the other had is someone who really needs to sort himself more before he gets in a relationship, like I understand the why behind his actions but he can be really abrassive often times.
Thinks I liked from the book:
-it has a book club
-the idea of living in a small town
-Eunice
-the dual pov
-the writing style

Loved this!
Another stellar read from Hannah. I love the concept and the pace but most of all I love the characters. I can see but of myself in all of them and Eunice is definitely my favourite. No spoilers so I won’t say too much but it’s another delightful page turner perfect for cold winter days indoors or sunny holidays by the beach/pool. A feel good book that completely shows the phrase “you never really know what someone is going through” in many ways and a great reminder of how we should judge others less and take time to get to know people.
Having read most of Hannah’s work, I jumped right in without reading any blurb and rightly so. Just fab and so excited that it’s the first in a series!

Fleur Fisher is starting to build a new life after the trauma of her divorce and has her fortieth birthday looming which her sister is determined she will celebrate! Making new friends in the lonely hearts book club is definitely a step in the right direction. Will she ever find the love and family she yearns for.

A classic enemies-to-lovers sweet romance novel.
There's so much depth to the characters. As we get further into the story, we get to know them better. Even side characters were given space to evolve.
My favourite thing about this book was it's strong setting. Maldon is a town I know and love. Hannah Lynn brings it to life vividly and accurately.
This is an engaging story full of twists, turmoil, and joy. I'm happy to have discovered a new author who is local to me.

This is a romance book that's one of the highest rated on my TBR. Because it's only available on Audible for audio, it took me awhile to get to it. I did enjoy the enemies to lovers, love after 40 storylines, but it overall didn't knock my socks off. One issue is the narration - it has a reader, not narrator and I could hear all the cuts and edits. I did enjoy the cast of characters and the book club setting of the series, just not sure I loved it enough to continue.

Fleur Fisher's first encounter with Henry Pierce is distinctly inauspicious. She can't stand him. Then, settling in to her new home, she joins a book club, only to keep bumping into him as he ferries her new friend, his elderly aunt, to and from the meetings. This is a lovely read, as we, along with Fleur, find out more about Henry and his aunt. A nice rom-com.

This romance was cozy and easy to read through because I always wanted to know what would happen next. I really like the writing style of this author and how she doesn't just describe the character with words, but with actions!

A really lovely story
I loved reading this book, it was funny but there was also a very sad part where I felt really sorry for our heroine. I would deffinately recommend this book. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Absolutely perfect!
I so enjoyed this book. There is romance and happily ever after and not just in books. The characters are realistic, funny and loyal. No matter your age second chances are worth the wait. This is an uplifting and inspiring story. As always happy reading

An excellently engrossing story of a strong, self-reliant, and solicitous heroine takes charge of her life even though she has to undergo difficulties beyond her control with the help of a bunch of nice people, including an exceptionally thoughtful hero!

Very easy to read. The setting was lovely. Henry was a hard character to like despite seeing his vulnerabilities. The story was very predictable. Overall an enjoyable read if you want something that doesn't require too much thinking.
