I went into this story really hoping to enjoy it, but the first few chapters made it hard to stay invested. The repeated misuse of character names was distracting and broke the flow every time it happened. Because of that, I never felt a real connection forming between the leads — their bond felt more told than shown.
What ultimately made this a difficult read for me was the dynamic with the heroine’s parent. The dismissive, almost hostile attitude toward their own daughter was uncomfortable and triggering, and it overshadowed the romance for me. Instead of adding tension, it made the story feel emotionally heavy in a way I wasn’t expecting.
There are interesting ideas here, and readers who enjoy darker shifter themes may still connect with it, but it just didn’t work for me.
Millie Summers, omega were (going into her first heat and attracting other alphas), daughter of Calvin (killed 2 years prior) and Jenni (who I couldn't stand) nor Millie when she's acting like a child, most of the story until near the end.
Ethan Conner, Alpha, Calvins best friend and benefactor and protector of Millie.
I was confused at so many parts of the book. The MFC is attacked at the beginning of the book, but the attacker’s identity is Garrett, then Will, then Garrett again. Several characters get swapped and I had to go back and re-read to make sure it wasn’t just me getting confused.
That aside, the book is pretty good. The MFC tends to be annoying, but she grows throughout the book. She’s unaware in the beginning that she’s a shifter and it takes her time to learn and understand what that means. The MMC is very patient with her, but him calling her his omega all the time got old. They developed an alpha/omega relationship, but not an emotional one it seemed.
I would give the spice a 3/5. Also, there is no other woman drama, but there IS other man drama. No cheating, though.
Rating 4.5 This is a new author for me so I was not sure what to expect and I was greatly surprised. I enjoyed the storyline and the way it was laid out. It was well written and entertaining. There was a lot of action mixed in with a menacing danger. I loved the two main characters Ethan and Millie and the strong bond they had that went from 🔥to🔥🔥🔥very quickly. There are several secondary characters I enjoyed, especially Flint who was a mischief maker but became a great protector in the time of danger. His background was still a mystery and I wondered if he would be getting his own story. There was a surprise at the end I wasn’t expecting but was glad for it to happen. It’s a story worth reading. I thought that this book had a lot of potential, but it also had so many issues. Overall, I thought the story was interesting and that the main characters were likable. However, as I said the issues here were major and so plentiful that they seriously interrupted the flow when reading by often times forcing me to stop, go back, read again and the pause to try to figure what/who was actually being talked about. This was a new to me author that I took a chance on because I enjoy PNR and forbidden romance is my absolute favorite. Sadly, I was left unhappy and unsatisfied.
DNF 17%. This was so very bad, so poorly written. Not being able to differentiate homophones is one of my pet peeves. Note to the author: gaff and gaffe mean two very different things. It's always irritating when a wrong name gets used in the middle of a scene, but I can usually overlook it with a just small amount of annoyance. However, this author used the names Will and Garrett so interchangeably, I was honestly confused as to who was supposed to be in the scene.
A wonderfully unique shifter romance… Millie led a relatively sheltered life prior to her father’s death. When her world takes a dangerous turn, Ethan steps in. His fantastical revelations and the unexpected fallout turn her would upside down… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
A short story of bigotry. Millie has been betrayed by those that are suppose to love her. I enjoyed watching her learn her new self and accept things that scare her. I love Ethan and his vigilance over Millie.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story! Most of it was original and well thought out, but a little to much "romance" for my taste. I wish some of the characters had been more in depth, or have their own book in a series. Still, I'd recommend the book to someone who doesn't mind the romance style.

A clever tale of shifters and humans with love at its core. Shifters themselves, have class status as well as their pack leaders and their mates. For those without a pack or parents need it even more. A super sexy must read.
This book was just different enough from the others like it that the concept felt new. Instead of feeling like I knew what was going to happen, I was eager to read and find out. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I thought this was a great story. I enjoyed the twists and turns. It really had me turning the pages. This was definitely had its dark moments. And that spice was spicing. I loved the way the two main charters came together. This was one I couldn’t put down.
