I liked this book from the opening scene right through the end. Ella is an FBI profiler who is long overdue a vacation. As she's leaving work the last day before she leaves, she finds a stranger waiting for her in the dark parking lot of her office. He's come to ask her help, because he has a case that he thinks is a serial killer, though his boss doesn't agree. Ella agrees to help him when she notices similarities with a case she's been working on for years.
I loved Ella and Logan. There is a connection between them right from the beginning. It starts out as an attraction that hits them both really hard, but each knows there's no future in it. Ella's job keeps her in Virginia, and Logan is committed to his job in Florida. Both are afraid that it might be too much of a distraction as they work to find the killer. The opening scene was a great indicator of how well they work together. Logan finds himself at the business end of her abilities, and rather than feeling threatened, he takes it all in stride. As they begin their work in Florida, his respect for what she can do is obvious. Ella is one tough lady herself. She became a profiler because of what happened to her friend, and that case is always on her mind. She doesn't hesitate to get involved in Logan's case, even though it's on her own time. I really liked the fact that, as independent and tough as she is, she doesn't take stupid risks.
As Ella and Logan work together, their attraction continues to grow. Each of them also realizes that it's starting to feel like more than just a physical attraction. Both of them have reasons that they think there's no hope for them. Ella is tied to Virginia if she wants to keep doing what she does, and Logan has never considered leaving Florida, where his roots are buried pretty deep. But when it comes down to the end, what is more important? I liked the way they worked it out, as it was different from what usually happens.
The suspense was really good. It started with the feeling that the two cases could be connected, and Ella's determination to follow up, even though it couldn't be done officially. As Ella and Logan progressed in their search, the second murder upped the intensity. I liked seeing the steps that they went through, and the frustration that they felt when they hit dead ends. The final confrontation with the killer was chilling, and definitely had me on the edge of my seat as I wondered how they were going to escape. It was very well done, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next two books in the series.

Disarming Detective is the first book I've read by Elizabeth Heiter but it definitely won't be my last! It's not very often that I can't figure out who the killer is, but with Disarming Detective I honestly had no idea who to expect. Believe me, I had my suspicions but I never actually had that aha moment and that made the book so much more intriguing for me.
Ella has been trying to solve a very personal case for years so when Logan shows up with a case that resembles hers she jumps on the opportunity to head to Florida and catch this guy once and for all. Only what ends up happening is nothing like she expected.
There's an instant attraction between Ella and Logan but with so much happening with the case and the fact that they need to focus on the job they don't really act on it so we have a nice slow build up. My problem though?
Of course the suspense totally makes up for the lack of sexy times. Like I said before, there was no part in the story, no specific clue that was given, that led me to believe that I knew who the killer was which definitely made it that much more suspenseful. Every person they encountered, every suspect they questioned, I felt like I was questioning them right along with them. I found myself trying to read between the lines to see if this could be the killer.
My only real complaint would be the ending.
Overall though, Disarming Detective was a great read and I'll definitely be checking out the rest of the series.

3.5 stars
I loved the intrigue-anticipation was high on who the villain could possibly be! The romance was good, but I was hoping for a teensy bit more emotional development between Isabella and Logan. Overall, this was a good read and I’m looking forward to Maggie’s story.

I gave this a C+ at AAR, so 3.5 stars. The setup for Disarming Detective is ridiculous, but the suspense plotting worked so well that I got completely sucked into the book. For a while. Unfortunately, the tension didn't last and I couldn't help feeling a little let-down by the end.
FBI profiler Isabella Cortez is leaving her office, about to go on a much-needed vacation. This changes when Logan Greer accosts her in the parking lot. It turns out that he is a detective from Florida and he's convinced that he has a serial killer on his hands. Undaunted by the FBI's refusal to assign a profiler, he's come to Quantico determined to plead his case to one in person. Since he somehow managed to get through security without the guard bothering to at least call ahead to the office about the incoming visitor, now he's got Ella's attention.
Normally Ella would beg off, but something about the facts of this case make her think it could be tied to the unsolved assault that made her want to join the Bureau in the first place. So what does Ella do? She pitches her vacation plan and heads to Florida to do a bit of profiling on her own time. At this point in the book, I was still rolling my eyes a bit. I live not far from Quantico and I know more than a few people who work there, so the idea that someone could just hang out in the FBI parking lot didn't fly with me. And then when we get to Florida, we get to see that of course Logan is the lone wolf cop in his department. How badass of him.
Fortunately, things start to pick up. The investigation into the disappearances and killings down in Florida kept me turning pages, and that part of the story was indeed compelling enough to make me wonder what was going on and who was responsible. And even though the book got off to a bit of a rough start, I did basically like Logan and Ella. Each seemed diligent, dedicated to their jobs, and essentially decent.

DISARMI DETECTIVE by Elizabeth Heiter is her debut romantic suspense novel. It is also the first book in THE LAWMEN series. But don't be mistaken by these first events. This book is a page turner which captures you from the beginning to the last page! I have been a fan of this author from her first books VANISHED and HUNTED which I thoroughly enjoyed reading them both. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
FBI profiler Isabella Cortez (Bella) to her friends has been haunted for years by the Fish Hook rapist which is the reason she chose to become a part of the organization. Her childhood friend Maggie. Together with Maggie's brother Scott, the three formed a pact to capture him. Now all three work in different areas of the FBI.
When a detective from Florida shows up just as Ella is leaving for vacation with her friends. Detective Logan Greer show her a case file which bears a similarity to Maggie's case, she puts her vacation on hold. Instead she goes on her own time with Logan to Florida hoping to solve the case which has haunted her and her friends for so long. She has only two weeks to do this.
There is a lot of chemistry between Logan and Ella but it does not distract the reader from the real story. As the clock is ticking away a body is found, how much more time there be before another body turns up? Working as fast as the police along with Ella and Logan can, will they capture him????
I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the other two books in The Lawmen series. I highly recommend this book and others by this author. If you love suspense, try these books out for yourself. I highly give this book a five star rating!

Disarming Detective is a romantic suspense by Elizabeth Heiter. It is the first book in a 3 book series. Although this book stands alone I think the Fishhook Serial killer will be the continuing theme with all three of them.
This is my first book by Elizabeth but will not be my last. The opening scene caught my attention and I was thrilled how it played out. Logan took it in stride and it endeared me to him immediately. He was handsome, gentlemanly but confident enough to appreciate Ella and her abilities. I appreciated how he respected her skills and looked to her to help with the case. Ella is a very likeable character; tough but reasonable. She didn't run off and do stupid things or be stubborn to prove a point. Although technically the romance happened quickly; it flowed well and seemed real. They were such a great couple together. The killer is creepy and I was nervous that the scenes were going to be too graphic for me but they stopped short of being too much. Ella and Logan work through the case and the killers thought process which I found fascinating and was anxiously awaiting how it as going to play out. I really did not see the end coming which thrills a reader who has read hundreds of books. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.

Disarming Detective
3.5 Stars
Convinced that a serial killer is at work in his small town, Detective Logan Greer is desperate for help from the FBI Behavioral Sciences Unit. Going against her boss's decision, FBI Profiler Isabella Cortez agrees to help Logan as she suspects a connection between his case and one that has haunted her for years.
A suspenseful thriller with well-written actions scenes. The investigation could have been better developed with more focus on Ella's profiling skills (this is probably a result of the shorter Harlequin format), but the climax and resolution are satisfying nonetheless.
Unfortunately, the romance falls quite flat as the chemistry between the H/h is virtually non-existent and their relationship feels forced.
In sum, this book would have been better as a straightforward thriller without the romantic elements. Elizabeth Heiter has another series in which she appears to do exactly this. Looking forward to giving it a try.

I really enjoyed my first book by this author. I expected a quick easy read but got something a lot more in depth than I planned. Ella was a profiler with the BAU in Virginia. Logan was a detective in a small town police force in rural Florida. Their attraction begins a slow burn as soon as Ella agrees to come to Florida to work on what Logan believes is a serial killer case and Ella believes is a case connected to her friend's rape years ago. There is some police/FBI procedural type action and plenty of mystery. The book gets pretty suspenseful toward the end, and I really had no idea about the killer's identity. The characters were well developed, and secondary characters were introduced who will likely feature in future books.

Excellent
I planned on taking a few days at least to read this book, but I couldn't put it down, and finished it in a single day. Elizabeth Heiter has once again impressed me and left me waiting for the next adventure!

This was a good one. Isabella is an FBI profiler and she is going on vacation with her friends. The night she is to leave, she finds a man outsider her office. After their initial meeting, Isabella agrees to look at Detective Logan Greer's file. Logan wants her to profile a case he has down in Florida. Isabella isn't overly interested until something in the file catches her eye. Now she and Logan are trying to find a killer before he strikes again.
I laughed at their first meeting! These two characters were fun for me to read about. Neither Isabella or Logan followed orders but both were determined to stop the killer. The back story on Isabella's friend is one I want to know more about and I'm hoping there is another book about it. The romance was good. The story line was easy to follow and get into. Nothing to dislike about this story!
It was a 4/5 for me. I like this author's style!

Ella Cortez is an FBI profialer intent on finding her best friend's claim rapist. When Detective Logan Greer claims he has a serial killer in his jurisdiction, the similariteis are too close for Ella to ignore, and she follows him back to Florida on vacation to see if his case and hers are the same.
In the course of their investigation, attraction flares, but will that heat prevent them from the burns this kills plans to use again--quite possibly on them?
Suspenseful to the end--along with a rediscovered romance for two very likable characters.

This is a good series. Good suspense and a shorter read in between longer reads. Really enjoyed this one, plan to read The Lawmen #2 next week after I finish the other one I started. It's Seduced by a Sniper. They are easy enticing mysteries that really keep you on edge with no giveaways.

I received a copy of this novel for review from NetGalley.
I initially requested this novel because I loved Elizabeth Heiter's novel Vanished, which I reviewed on the blog last month. I find the same story as with Vanished... a profiler feels compelled to take on a case because of her intimate involvement with a case in the past... in this instance, the Fish Hook Rapist, who abducts young college girls and brands them. Ella Cortez is approached by Detective Logan, who practically begs her to take the case, even though he has not been authorized to request an FBI profiler. No matter, she's not supposed to be on the case anyway.
I noted this in my notes while reading this story but I would have enjoyed this novel so much more if it had been straight suspense/mystery. The romantic element was extremely forced and unbelievable. My eyes glazed over any mention of attraction (which occurs, basically, on night one). I am amazed that professionals view a case in which people are losing their lives with the thought, "I've got to solve this HEINOUS CRIME. And also my partner is really hot. We're going to solve this murder but first we need to almost have sex several times and then we just need to give in and also I love you but I have only know you six days... I really seriously can't.
The story itself was enough to keep me turning pages. The initial assumption that the killer in Oakville, FL may be the same suspect accused of raping her best friend Maggie turns out to be questionable. However there IS a serial killer, still killing, still deadly. Cortez and Logan have to solve the case in a limited time, because not only is Ella not allowed to take on her own cases with the FBI, she's supposed to be on vacation and the bosses don't know she's consulting.
I found a lot of really enjoyable elements that saved this novel from being a 2 star or DNF read. Great, believable action, a villain I love to hate and an incredible rescue scene were plus points for me.
I've tried to venture into Harlequin's Intrigue line... some books are hit or miss. Vanished was excellent. Disarming Detective was iffy. Not terrible, but a slam dunk. If you love goopy romantic InstaLove, this will be a great read.

Can falling in love become deadly? Or is falling in love the only way of Surviving?
FBI Profiler Isabella has been living her life with a case hanging over her head. She had been looking for a way, anything for her to get a break on catching a rapist. Hitting so close to home, she couldn’t let it go. One night when a sexy Detective came by looking for help to hopefully solve his case, he begged for Isabella’s help. Their instant attraction was undeniable, but it was also a distraction to both of them. Isabella agreed to help, not because she was attracted to him… it was because she was hoping it was the big break she had been waiting for.
They worked together great and they had chemistry like you wouldn’t believe. As they got deeper into their case, they also dug deep into each others hearts. Knowing they live in different states, they tried to deny their feelings. But with their bodies and their hearts craving for each other, how much longer can they keep away from their feelings?
This book is great, it reminded me a little bit of all my favorite shows CSI, Bones and so on. I love how the story kept me engaged, the strong heroine, the love and chemistry the characters had for each other. I enjoyed it a lot. If you are looking for sex, this is not the book for you. This book is full of mystery, suspense, excitement and mix in with a little romance.

“Disarming Detective” is the first in the Lawmen Series by Elizabeth Heiter and of course my first of reading her writing. Again, the first timer sure caught me by surprise.
Detective Logan Greer is in desperate need of having a profiler when a body was discovered in his small town of Oakville, FL; a desperation that brings him face to face with Isabella Cortez, a FBI profiler. Instead of heading to California on a vacation with her friends, she ends up going to Oakville, to help Logan in an unofficial capacity, just because the case comes very close to being the Fishhook Killer that she was pursuing for years.
With Logan’s gut instinct that there is a serial killer at large, and the death hitting very close to home, he needs all of Isabella’s expertise to catch the killer. Isabella on the other hand wants to bring a closure to her own trauma of her best friend being kidnapped by the killer and wants to bring the evil to rest.
As sparks ignite between the detective and the profiler, the case takes a bizarre turn. With more questions than answers, Logan and Isabella try to keep their attraction at bay. As danger and death dog the town of Oakville, Logan and Isabella succumb to their desires. And as they get closer to the killer, their future may burn to the ground
“Disarming Detective” is definitely an interesting read. There were a few pages in the middle of the story I felt the story was dragging a tad bit, but then it picks up pace and keeps going.
Elizabeth does a fine job, disarming her readers with Logan and Isabella, and doesn’t disappoint at all.
Received an ARC from Harlequin Intrigue via NetGalley for an honest review.

Harlequin Intrigue is releasing a new series, The Lawman, by Elizabeth Heiter. This book is the first in the series by Elizabeth Heiter who is known for her gripping FBI novels Hunted and Vanished.
This series centers around 3 friends who grew up in a small farming town in Indiana. Scott is the older brother of Maggie who is best friends with Ella. Maggie and Ella are roommates at college and one night during their senior year Maggie fails to return to the dorm. This night will change the life of these three friends forever.
I absolutely loved this book. She brings characters that are not always perfect, but that seems to make them more human to me. We are introduced to Ella who has worked with the FBI for 7 years as a profiler who has literally had to get into the mindset of the criminal. She is loyal, headstrong and very independent. Logan Green is a good detective and will go the extra lengths to get a case solved, but sometimes must break the rules to get this done. He has a good heart, but is constantly having to prove himself at work since his dad is the mayor everyone likes to insinuate that that's how he not only got but keeps his job.
This story is full of suspense, but also includes a little romance. I was pulled into the story quickly and the fast paced plot kept me turning the pages. I would recommend this book to anyone.
The second book in this series is Seduced By A Sniper set to be released March 1, 2015 and I look forward to reading it.
I was given this book by the author for a honest review without bias as stated above.

Wonderful start to a new series...Elizabeth Heiter brings us Suspense and some Unexpected Romance...
When Detective Logan Greer approached Ella Cortez let's just say his approach was not very good. She was
on her way for a nice relaxing vacation with her best friends. Logan Greer needed a profiler and no one would help him out.
The case he was working on was personal. All he needed was an hour of her time..check his files out, and give him something
anything to go on. She caves and checks what he has. Ella is a profiler, and works for the FBI in the BAU unit. After giving
the files a look at she finds herself taking a different approach...just what she needs, and there goes her vacation.
While Logan and Ella are working on this case in Oakville, Florida it just might be connected to someting she saw in the photos
in his files..She's not positive..So they work every possible angle.
It becomes deadly, and her life and the lives of the college girls are hanging in the balance. Can she and Logan find the next victim?
I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what happens. All along there is an attraction
between Logan and Ella the thing is they live in different cities. So can they make a long-distance
relationship work? He tried before..

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the way Logan first met Ella. Logan was a detective. The case that he was working, he needed a FBI profiler. He was working a murder investigation. Logan was sure that the killer was a serial killer. His fellow detectives didn't believe him, and neither did his captain. They all said it was just one murder. He couldn't get a FBI profiler through the proper channels. So he took a flight and went to Virginia. Ella was a FBI profiler. She was in a secure location. When she spotted Logan, she didn't know him, and knew he was not suppose to be there, so she drew her gun on him.
I loved the suspense, action, and romance.
The story line was really good, and moved along at a fast pace. Ella agreed to help Logan. She thought his case may be linked to one that she had been working on for years. There was a special connection between Logan, and Ella from the beginning. They try to keep the relationship professional, because they knew a long distance relationship just wouldn't work. I loved the way Logan charmed Ella. With the two trying to stay alive, we do get some romance between the Hero, and Heroine. Ella was not a weak Heroine by any means. She was good at her job, and Logan respected her.
This was a really good book!

This could have been a longer book it was that good. Ella is an FBI profiler. One of her goals in life is to catch the Fishhook Rapist, a man who had kidnapped her best friend, Maggie, then let her go when he was done with her. It was because of that Ella, Maggie, and Maggie's brother, Scott, joined the Bureau. When Detective Logan Greer approaches Ella about a case in Florida he's working on, at first she blows him off. Then she discovers similarities to his friend's murder and Maggie's attack. She has a couple of weeks' vacation so she agrees to accompany him back to Florida and work on the case. It quickly becomes apparent it's a serial killer all right just not the one Ella was hoping to catch. Even so, when another young woman is found murdered, she realizes they are in a race against time and must do everything they can to stop the man. Very good suspense, kept you guessing as to the killer's identity until the end. The romance was a little rushed but didn't detract from the story. I quite enjoyed it.

Elizabeth Heiter has written a page turner to the end. I immediately fell in love with Ella the main character, and the one that the story unfolds through her eyes. An FBI Profiler runs into a detective, they soon realize they are looking for a killer that is very similar, and the chase is on! As the detective, Logan, seeks help with his case, Ella feels a strong attraction to him, but she can’t let her feelings come to bear, she must stay forced and find the killer of a close friend. Full of emotions and suspense, you will not be able to put this one down until the end. I look forward to reading this series.

I fell in love with this book. I watch a lot of crime dramas. This book reads like an episode of Criminal Minds but with lots of romance. Walking through profiling a killer while falling in love, what could be better? I loved Ella. She was smart, strong and witty. Logan was a good ol' southern boy with an alpha male complex. This is a thrilling romance that has you on the edge of your seat as well as sighing at the romantic side of the story! You'll not regret reading this intriguing story!
