Wyatt has mostly cut contact with this toxic family, but when one of his cousins invites him to her wedding, he can’t find it in himself to say no, even though they’re not that close.
He goes to the event prepared to hate it, but on his way to the venue the universe decides to give him a gift by letting him meet Andrea, an old childhood friend he lost contact with a decade before. As it turns out they have a lot more in common than they originally knew, sparks start to fly.
They have a night of passion, and promise to meet each other again for a date. But desire is simple. Feelings, however, are not.
Love At Orc's Sight is a T4T MM monster romance novella. It's part of the author's Monster Mixer Universe, but can be read as a standalone.
Robin, queer and disabled author from Italy, writes different books under different pen names. Xe uses Robin Jo Margaret for paranormal and monster romance and erotica, and R.J. Margaret for the human stories (both spicy and non).
Xyr motivation comes from the readers who always reach out to share that they felt seen by xyr stories—and from a worrying amount of chocolate and tea.

Andrea and Wyatt were different flavors of neurodivergent and had a very sweet cozy love story. Wyatt was quiet and loved his quiet time. He was sweet and insecure because of his crappy family upbringing. Andrea was playful and kind, but also insecure because of past partners who said he was “too much” and a neglectful upbringing. I liked that this was them reconnecting after they both came out as trans. They both wanted more than a ONS, even if they were terrible at communicating it.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: toxic families, strained relationships with relatives, mental and verbal abuse, neglect, feelings of guilt about distancing oneself from family, fear of loneliness, mention of dead parents, microaggressions (implied transphobia / fatphobia / classism / ableism), employment discrimination for being neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+, brief mention of teachers being purposefully ableist and hard on neurodivergent teens, past toxic romantic relationships and lingering insecurities, misunderstandings as a plot point, brief allusion to past partners assuming what someone likes in the bedroom when they are actually uncomfortable with the action, mention of scars (top surgery), mention of a lesbian accidentally mistaking a baby trans man as a butch
I haven't written a review yet this whole year. My disability has worsened to a point that this became a lot harder than I want it to be. But when such a lovely ARC as this comes past it's okay to plan my daily energy for it.
This book was so adorable that I kept smiling through the majority of it. A grumpy orc just gives me the feels of wanting to give him a big damn hug. Wyatt is a great guy and his struggles with his family feel incredibly relatable. I am avoiding most of them just the same lol. But clearly for Wyatt seeing them this one time was by far worth it. I loved the way he couldn't help but keep glancing at Andrea.
Andrea is such a social butterfly and I enjoyed spending time with him a lot. He seems like a lovely person to have as a friend from the get go. But during the book he clearly proves he's good lover material too. The attention and care he gives to Wyatt is so adorable and made me feel so happy inside.
As a personal note, this book made me think about weddings a lot (logically), and if I'm honest at this point in my life that was quite hard. My partner and I have been talking about marrying until we realized I can't because of my disability I'd lose my income. It made reading the book harder than you as my review reader probably will experience, but even though my experience was harder it was an amazing read.
Thank you to Robin Jo Margaret for another banger! The characters are always diverse and cute. We need more of that in our lives. I recommend this book to add diverse and queer reads to your palette.
-t4t -autistic mcs -spicy + sweet -high school teacher x construction worker -childhood friends -orc x dragon -family troubles
This was a fun read! Wyatt and Andrea were well rounded characters and I enjoyed watching them reconnect now they have both transitioned. There were some frustrating parts when they just couldn't figure out how to communicate with each other but even that was relatable. I'd absolutely recommend this one!
I received an advance copy for review. All opinions are my own.
The dragon Andrea and the orc Wyatt have been childhood friends before both of them transitioned and haven’t seen each other for a decade now. They meet again by chance when on their way to the same wedding. “As it turns out they have a lot more in common than they originally knew, sparks start to fly. They have a night of passion, and promise to meet each other again for a date. But desire is simple. Feelings, however, are not.“
The two men face realistic problems with reconnecting in their day to day life afterwards. I somehow thought this story would be more about physical interaction in general, and was surprised about which twists the storyline takes. (And there IS strap on & tail play e.g. 😉 - I had to laugh when I confused dragon and strap on.) I like the representation of problematic family dynamics, trans and neurodivergent characters and seeing their thought processes. It also shows in a tender way how community, no matter how small, can have such a positive influence on people’s paths.
monster romance • orc & dragon • childhood friends reconnect • novella representation: t4t, gay men, autism, audhd, plus size I received an advanced reader copy from the author - thank you ! - in exchange for an honest review.
Content Warnings (shortened from the book): toxic families, past toxic relationships mentioned, mental & verbal abuse, neglect, microaggressions, employment discrimination, lingering insecurities; Sex related: oral, penetrative, strap action, tail play
This is a sweet T4T MM monster romance. It is a standalone in the Monster Mixer Universe, originally published as a short story in One Monstrous Feast anthology and later expanded into a novella.
MMC orc Wyatt is on the way to a family wedding when he runs into his old friend, MMC dragon Andrea. They hit it off at the wedding and agree to start dating in real life, but then have trouble finding the time and reconnecting.
I really liked this book. For a quick read, it explores some serious themes like toxic families, insecurities, and isolation. I enjoyed both characters, as well as the trans and neurodivergent representation, and their struggles. I did want to shake them and tell them to just talk to each other, which of course, some side characters basically end up doing. But it all works out in the end, with some sweet and spicy moments mixed in throughout.
Overall, a fun, sweet read. I hope to see more from Margaret in the Monster Mixer Universe.

*** I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This story has it all: Punny title ✅ Adorable cover art ✅ Engaging blurb ❤️ And that's all before you start reading! Yeah, I know, I... me.... actually read the blurb. Orcs and dragons. One is the paranormal du jour, the other a book standard/staple. It's got a great trope. I love friends to lovers. That lightbulb moment. Set against a wedding, the story has Orc Wyatt reluctantly going home to his toxic family, and dragon Andrea, an old friend friend Wyatt crushed on when they were younger. Andrea reciprocated. Didn't tell each other. The story is medium angst. Not too much scenery chewing. But the author does tackle some difficult subjects. Toxic, awful family relationships. The difficulties faced by trans and neurodivergent children. Robin Jo Margaret is a new author for me. There were portions of the story that were enjoyable and funny. And some that were a tad long winded. I'd love comparing the original short story with this rewritten novella. I received an advanced copy of this ebook and this is my review.
4.5⭐️ A bit of an angsty well written story by this wonderful author. Thank you to the author for an advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wyatt and Andrea were childhood friends, both with just a little crush on the other. Wyatt left as soon as he could to be away from his family and to be his authentic self.
They meet again on the way to Wyatt’s cousin’s wedding. He’s really only still close to one of his cousins and he’s happy they will be at the wedding as well. Andrea is the best man to the cousin having the wedding.
Wyatt and Andrea are so cute when they meet again. I loved their ease and enthusiasm as “we’re both men!” is exclaimed and briefly discussed. Their attraction is pretty palpable, especially once the reception gets going.
There’s so much more, I couldn’t stop reading and I highly recommend you adding this book to your tbr.
I absolutely adored this story! It's the perfect summer monster novella. The characters were so amazing and I really loved them so much. This story follows Wyatt as he goes to a wedding his cousins invited him too. Even though he cut contact with most of his toxic family he can't seem to say no. On the way over he comes across a stranded car which ends up being owned by an old childhood friend who he lost contact with. Andrea and him seem to have more in common than expected and sparks start to fly. They have a night together at the wedding and plan to meet up later. But life gets in the way and feelings are not that simple. I really loved Wyatt and Andrea as both transitioned since they last saw each other so they have lots to catch up on. They romance was so cute. So if you are looking for a T4T cute romance story about a dragon and an orc this one is for you! Thanks to Robin for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I had mixed feelings as I started this book. I have gay family members that I love dearly. I have not had any interactions with anyone transgender so I was not familiar with their dynamics. I'm glad to say I enjoyed the book. Tastefully written. Great story and characters. When members of my family came out to me they were worried about my reaction. I hugged them and said my love for them has nothing to do with their sexuality. They cried. It hurts my heart to see how they are treated. This book opened my eyes to several things. I would recommend this book to anyone. The author did an amazing job with the issues in the book. Happy reading!
Sweet love story between a dragon and an orc! T4T rep. Neurodivergence rep. This story is probably one of the more realistic relationship starts you’ll read. With overthinking, assumptions and lack of communication. I found myself frustrated that they were seeing signs of issue in each other’s body language. But not discussing it at all. I found Andrea’s work environment completely untenable. Absolute trash. Fun strap use. Excellent tail use. Good times! Wish there had been more of a HEA. We are left with a HFN.
ARC Reader*** Omgggg 😭 I loved Wyatt and Andrea so muchhh. If you love a miscommunication trope where just wanna wrap them up like burritos and talk to eachother this is your story.
This story was so lovely and while about an Orc and a Dragon it felt so real world. This is a sweet and spicy short book that would make a wonderful add to your collection or I nice pallet cleanser between longer books. We also love a choose your player strap situation 😉
Really enjoyed reading this! The characters were so sweet and their interactions, while sometimes made me want to scream at them to just be honest about their feelings with each other, was very relatable and realistic. Sometimes we let our insecurities and anxiety take over and it sucks.
I hated Andrea's work though. That place was awful and toxic. Literally had me looking off to a non-existent camera like "WTF did I just read??"
If you're looking for a short and sweet book with great rep and delicious spice this one is for you!
3.75/5 stars Thank you to the author for the ARC! This review is for the extended version of the short story. This was a cute romance, and I loved the T4T dynamic. I also liked how the story examined family dynamics. However, I did not enjoy the miscommunication that lasted for the last third of the book.
CW (stated in book): sexual content; toxic relationships (family & romantic); transphobia; ableism
Andrea a dragon and Wyatt an orc, were childhood classmates and friends, but haven’t seen each other in ten years. When Wyatt stopped to help a stranded motorist on the way to his cousin’s wedding he never expected to run into Andrea. Andrea is the best man for Kali his cousin. Both of them have deep insecurities and tend to overthink situations. This is a cute sweet romance with wonderful characters and so much fun to read.
I enjoyed the first half of this book so much! Starting with the title, I adore puns. And the combo of lust at first (real) sight with childhood crush is such a good premise. Overall though, it just didn’t quite do it for me as much as I’d hoped. I know miscommunication tropes are popular but how it played out in this instance fell a little flat for me. Still, it’s a quick and enjoyable read. I received this book directly from the author (whom I found on Threads!) and this is my honest review. 4-4.25 stars.
