New Hot Standalone from New York Times Bestselling Author Helen Cooper

It was only supposed to be one night

We met at a wedding. He was hot. And I’d been in a year’s drought.

He smiled. We got drunk. We flirted. We hooked up. I left without early the next morning without saying goodbye. It was only meant to be a one night stand. I didn’t want the awkward morning after moment. Not at all.

Then I went home for the weekend. And he was there. Sitting on the couch chatting to my dad. Turns out he was more than just a stranger. Turns out that my one night stand was about to cause a whole heap of trouble. Turns out that it never just stops with one night.

** 1 " Mr. Tongue my a** " STAR **

"Will you let me be your Mr. Miracle Tongue forever, Liv?"

"Oh yes, Xander. I love you, too."

It's only January the 7th today and it saddens me to say that I'm already writing my 2nd one-star review of 2015... :(

Those of you who are accustomed to my reviews might have noticed that I'm quite generous with my stars in ratings, I rarely give anything lower than 3 stars. If you come across one of those rare happenings, it means that book ABSOLUTELY SUCKS . Like this one does. Unfortunately.

I think I've summarized the story pretty well in my review for the prequel to the story, THAT NIGHT, so I'm gonna save my breath this time.

All you need to know is that Liv sleeps with this guy she meets at a wedding, Xander, and a week later she finds him sitting with her parents at her home. Apparently Liv's pregnant sister, Gabby, has brought Xander, her fiancé, to introduce him to her parents.

"I stared in the mirror at my reflection and I could see the embarrassment in my eyes as I thought about the fact that I had sucked on my sister's fiancés balls and LIKED IT."

Okay, enough with all of that, let's get down to business now, shall we?

THE LIST OF RIDICULOUS AND ANNOYINGLY STUPID STUFF IN THIS BOOK:

#1 // Useless information about Liv's brothers Aiden, Scott and Chett and her bestfriend Alice.

#2 // The looooooong talks between Liv and Alice about all kinds of stuff, including Jay Z and dresses and movies etc etc. Liv tells her best friend about things that happened with Xander that we've read about a few pages back, and Alice tells Liv about how much she likes Aidan, over and over again.

#3 // Liv's infuriating habit to always answer a question with another question! I was trying very hard to tolerate it for most of the book but the second I read the sentence, "What's what about?" ...I gave up!

#4 // The fact that Liv is a ***SLUT***. Yeap! I SAID IT!

I can never respect a woman who pulls her sister's fiancés d*ck out of his pants and strokes him under the table, a table occupied by her parents, her sister, her brothers, Xander's brother and Alice, JUST BECAUSE SHE'S PISSED AT HER SISTER AND WANTS TO GET BACK AT HER!

And then she goes and f*cks him at one of the bathroom stalls of the restaurant, while her sister bangs at the door shouting "Liv? Are you there? We can't find you.".

#5 // The repeat of the sentence "You're such a pig." at least 20 times.

If you're gonna insult the man, at least be a little creative Liv, dear, and if you're not gonna be able to pull that relatively easy job off, then I'm begging you...stay f*ckin' quiet!

#6 // The fact that no one suspects of anything about Liv and Xander while they do NOTHING to hide their sexual relationship.

I could write at least 10 very obvious scenes in which SOMEONE could at least suspect about what was going on, and even very easily bust them!

But no, of course Liv's parents or her sister or her 3 brothers would NEVER be suspicious of where the hell the groom-to-be went right after Liv, or why they keep locking eyes all the time, or why they argue in hushed voices in the quiet corners of the house, or why Xander acts like a jealous boyfriend sometimes!

#7 // And lastly...the most off-putting conversation in a sex scene I've ever read. And I've read some pretty nasty sh*t over the years, let me remind you.

Xander is about to lick Liv's backdoor and this is what he asks:

"You just had a bath right?"

"Yes, why?"

You see, my lady boner immediately went limp after that.

** Would Eda recommend this book? **

Apparently, I never learn my lesson. 'Never trust a blurb' should be my new motto. And I really want to explain why I didn't like this book in the nicest manner possible.

The premise sounded promising. I'm not gonna lie, I thought this book would be pretty good, and maybe a bit mysterious. I mean, your one night stand shows up at your parents' house shortly after your epic hook-up! That should be fifty shades of romantic, right?

Liv, our "heroine" should have been likable, and initially, I'd say she was. Until her one night stand, Xander, came back on to the scene. Why? Because Xander is engaged to Liv's sister. Yep. You read that correctly. The hilarity doesn't stop there. Once she finds out this information, he tries to explain he was only engaged AFTER they hooked up.

Thank the Lord! I thought he was a true douche bag.

Anyway, back to the story. So, after this crazy reveal, Liv calls in her BFF, Alice, who also happens to have a crush on one of her brothers. Instead of being there for moral support, this turns into a two love story book. Both women are only worried about themselves. Ugh. This begins a game of "What Can We Do to Make These Men Jealous and Realize They Want to Be With Us?"

That ALWAYS works! Meanwhile, the sister and Liv's entire family are completely oblivious to the tension between her and Xander. They also never find it odd that he keeps dragging her off - someone he just met - "to talk."

These two continue to hook up several more times despite the fact that he refuses to call off the engagement. Let's talk about that, shall we?
I forgot to mention that Xander is RICH. Of course he is! But he wants to collect his inheritance, and can't until he's settled down, per his grandfather. Now, good ole Xander is a playboy. He doesn't do serious. This 'engagement' is a business arrangement, BECAUSE --- the sister is pregnant!

After more "talks", he reveals the baby isn't his. Somewhere along the line, it's revealed it is either his brother's child or a best friend's. In reality, Xander is just being a standup guy in order to save the other two, as well as Liv's sister. Awwwwwww! NOT!

A bunch more crap happens, they continue screwing, no one realizes it, and you're starting to think this madness will finally end, Xander will come to his senses, dump the sister, and ask Liv to marry him. After a scene in which he confesses to having feelings for her, and after he'd just asked her BFF Alice things about her, this douche canoe STILL admits he doesn't want to break it off. Now, I can't remember where in the story this takes place, but he is also SO AMAZING that he tells Liv why he wants the money.

Okay, here it comes...

He wants to help countries in Africa get clean water. He's done it since he was a kid, but ran out of the money his father gave him.

Yeah. I didn't think this story could get any more ridiculous. I was wrong.

I also need to point out that the sister is written as the biggest bitch on the planet. She's mean to Liv, spoiled, and you're supposed to hate her in order to justify the cheating. RI-DIC-U-LOUS! The nail in the sister's coffin (I'm sorry, I can't remember her name for the life of me) comes when she admits to Liv that she's not, and never was, pregnant. She wanted a rich guy after the dude she loved married someone else...

Finally, at the very end, Xander comes back. TWO WEEKS AFTER HE DUMPED SISSY ONCE FINDING OUT SHE LIED. Surprisingly (probably the only actual one in the book) he doesn't propose to Liv. They're going to give it a try, she says 'Oh Xander' roughly 7 times in the last three pages (in a non-sexual interaction), and they live HEA... or do they? We don't know. They're together at the end, but the author left the bestie's love life unresolved. There was a hint of a scandal, and now I suppose she'll get a story, too. One that Liv and King Dickhole will cameo in.

No. Thank. You.

Yes and No

After reading and absolutely loving 'That Night' I just couldn't wait for this book to come out put I couldn't see how it could possibly deliver on everything it promised.
Now do you believe it's possible to both like and dislike a book at the same time, if you do then that's how I feel about this one. I struggled for a lot of the book actually just trying to like Xander, he was an ass, cocky, arrogant and inconsiderate and I'd decided around half way in that nothing, it didn't matter how this ended nothing could excuse his behaviour. The surprising thing was I also struggled with Liv, all the yes/no, hot/cold, should I/shouldn't I but to be honest that was ok it was entertaining until her little rant, not the first rant she had but
"We're done here, Xander"
"It's like you said, you don’t know me. If you did know me, you would know that I’m not the sort of girl that just has sexual relationships. I’m not the girl that is the f*** buddy"
I have to ask does she suffer from short term memory loss, was she not present for the one night of sex only and....ok I'm not going to spoil the book but this little speech was a little hard to swallow considering everything we'd just read, I mean seriously.
Even considering everything above I enjoyed this book but it also annoyed the hell out of me so it's 2 stars.

I finished it - and that's about as much as I can say for what I found to be a train wreck from one end to the other. The characters were disgusting and not once did I feel anything remotely positive for either one. Might as well just call it porn without a plot -- and the porn wasn't even well written, and what may have been projected as a plot was so immature and unrealistic that it all rolled into one big gag fest. What I'm sure the author meant to be funny and playful was just not. I'm glad I wasn't reading it on my Kindle or it would have died from being thrown against a wall.

The editing left a whole helluva lot to be desired as well.

Bad - bad - bad to the bone!

This was....completely disappointing.

Prior to starting it, I saw bad reviews. I read those reviews, so I had an idea of what I was in for. But I figured, just because they didn't like it doesn't mean I won't. I was wrong, really wrong.

This was awful. I try to always find at least one thing I liked and I honestly can't with this one.

Disappointed is an understatement, the blurb caught my attention. Who was this guy and why was he on her parent's couch.... I figured it out before I started and was looking forward to the ride - I wanted some ANGST, some witty banter maybe, will he won't he... NOPE. Not even the sex captured my attention. I couldn't engage, no connection to the characters, the way the conflicted was played out, just seemed ridiculous. And then it was resolved THE END. No meat with these potatoes. Fell completely FLAT. I have liked other books by the author, sadly this one was WAY off the mark for me

Unfortunately this book just did not do it for me. Storyline was ridiculous and I literally skimmed each page so I could finish the story and see how it ended.

What started as an interesting, charming and a little on the taboo side(woohoo!) story, ended up being a total charade. Why?

I had so much fun in the beginning even if things were a little over the top. The characters had no consistency, the plot was a little problematic, but the whole feeling was pretty good, so i decided to overlook all the craziness. But then the story turned so glaringly disastrous, i couldn't keep on pretending.

Around the 70% mark everything turned seriously ridiculous. Let's start though before that, with the characters.. Xander James being the hero. The Tongue master, the tongue extraordinaire, the mythical creature with the Tongue. Yes i know i sound like i'm sufferng from a severe head strike, but no, it's simply how he is described mostly in this book. At first it was funny but it turned weird and old pretty fast.

And not just that. He was a jerk with a heart of gold. Seriously? Is he a calculative bastard that wants to achieve his personal goals and doesn't care about any consequences with no regards to anyone's feelings, or is he a good decent guy that cared too much? I would go with the combination just fine but his behavior was so sordid i couldn't believe it, not even for a moment.

As for the heroine, Liv..Ugh! That girl is so immature. She is exactly like the following example: I will never do that. I want him, but i can't have him, i'm not that kind of girl, i demand respect.. a minute later, does it.. Come on, make a decision and stick to it, please..

Overall, fun to read in a peculiar way, a great idea that didn't work well.. As for the storyline, Liv and Xander have a one night stand-hence the title- and a week later they meet agian, in her house of all places.. And now he is her sister's fiancée..

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- All the drama with her sister.. Oh dear!
- Yes Gabby is a monster, we get it, but enough!
- Henry was ok.
- I liked Scott and Alice..
- All the rest were crazy!
- I would like Liv to be more assertive as a character.. Near the end i didn't care for her at all..
- We are not in early 2000 guys. No girl of that age would be on her teens, infatuated with Backstreet Boys. Come on Pop culture facts in books is a fun element, but outworn references are just awful.

You get what you expect with this one. One Night Stand is loaded with steamy sex. But it's also humorous too. Told from a first person point of view, you get a crazy wacky story that is fast and furious.

If you're looking for a slutty read, this is the one. Sometimes you just have to be in the mood for a book like this. It is what it is.

After I finished reading That Night, I was a bit leery of reading One Night Stand because of the allusion to infidelity between the characters. I steer clear from those books when I'm able but I cautiously picked up One Night Stand so I could see how Xander and Liv's story ended.

*Sigh*...from the very beginning of the story the characters grated on me and they only grew progressively worse as the book went along. Xander was arrogant to the point of annoyance and Liv was childish and malleable. Xander held all the cards in their relationship/non-relationship and she allowed it to be that way.

Liv is summoned to her family home and receives news that rocks her to her core. The news is that Xander, her one-night stand, is married her older and very (and I do mean VERY) bishy sister, Gabby. Gabby is pretty much the sister-from-hell and someone you wouldn't sic on your worst enemy. She is a prissy and mean, the total high school mean girl, even to her own sister, even though they are not in high school. Gabby is in full-on gloat mode about landing a rich dude. And, what is Xander doing? Trying to seduce Liv in her parents house, where his fiancee (aka, Gabby) is staying too. Although dismayed by the engagement announcement, Liv is still very much turned on by Xander and is still having fantasies about what he can do to her body. *Insert another sigh* Because that's not at all weird to perv on your sister's fiance, right? Anywho. The close quarters leads to subtle and no-so-subtle improper moments between the pair, ultimately culminating in another bout of sexing between them. And why the sexing? Because Liv was mad at Gabby's insults to her during an engagement dinner. As payback she let's her fingers do the walking underneath the tablecloth with Xander. Not to be outdone, Xander ups the ante by taking Liv in the restauant's bathroom -- only a few paces from where her family is sitting. Yeah...they totally do it like horny teenagers. Mind you, Xander has done nothing to inspire such lust other than looking good because remember, he's very arrogant and grows even more so when he recognizes that he is getting to Liv. As Liv and Xander are in the middle of their bathroom sex, Gabby pounds on the door, interrupting their little tête-à-tête. Do they stop? Nuh uh. They just lower their voices and ride each other to completion. Now, this is where I lost all respect for Liv. I get that Xander and Gabby's situation was complicated, AND that she didn't like her sister which was understandable, but Gabby was STILL her sister and Xander was still her fiance. That right there should have been a do not pass go situation. But it wasn't for Liv so now begins the Jerry Springer theme music playing in my head. It was just all too much.

All the characters in the story just felt uncomfortably juvenile. Xander's rationale for marrying Liv felt so convoluted that I kept thinking, "There has to be more to this." And then you have Henry's not wanting to take responsibility but maybe, sorta kinda; or Gabby trying to play two men again each other; or Liv trying to make Xander jealous by dirty dancing in a club; or Alice trying to make Aiden jealous by kissing another man, his own brother even. I just wanted to scream, "Grow up!" to all of them. When it finally, FINALLY comes out what Gabby's scheme is, and I mean like around 80% into the story, Xander still makes no immediate move to claim Liv as his woman. I just wanted to smack him. When Liv get's the call to come home to support Gabby in her broken engagement, I was thinking, finally, they'll be together. But, it still took Xander a few weeks to make contact with Liv. Let me stop right here to say a word about Liv's family. OMG...Were they not paying attention to how horrible Gabby was to her. I mean she was cutting Liv's jugular right in front of them more times than not and they simply just let it pass. The only one who called her on her actions was Xander so I do have to, at least, give him some points for that.

The story is in the homestretch now and I am hoping that Liv is put out of her misery soon, although I can't say as I like her very much as a character by the end. Still, sister solidarity and such. When Xander gets in touch with Liv after not having heard from him in weeks. He sends her an artificial tongue as a gift. Not just any tongue...a vibrating tongue because he is her "Mr. Miracle Tongue" afterall. *Sigh* When Xander invites himself to Liv's house, there are confessions of love and usage of the tongues -- his and the artificial one. And, they live happily ever after.

My issue with how the story ended was that AFTER everything Xander put Liv through, his profession of love felt whitewashed. Sure, he said he loved her from the very first but he never alluded to having ANY feelings for her other than lust. I think if he had felt more conflicted about being with Gabby the story would have been more enjoyable for me. The only time Xander showed a modicum of emotion was when he felt someone else was squatting on his turf (aka Liv). I felt no connection between Liv and Xander other than their lust for each other. I suppose the whole unfaithful subtext of the story really threw me off. For all intents and purposes, Liv and Xander were cheaters. Yes, I understand there was a reason but the reason was far-fetched and avoidable when the option of Liv was more than available. Although this one wasn't my cuppa, others may enjoy the byplay between the characters in the story and may not have as many issues with it as I did. But for what it was, I could only rate it as such.

Because That Night was such a good book and this was the second part to that, I think I expected way more than what it actually was, which was something of a disappointment.

To start off the guy was too much of a jerk. I think every female likes a man with a bit of jerk to him, but Xander had a bit too much.

Liv.. Liv, Liv, Liv, that girl. There are things that you just do not do, and your sisters fiancee is one of them!

I've never been one for cheating in a book, but when you add in the fact that it's with the guy you have feelings for, and he was with you first- That's just a sad combination for me.

I feel like it was something of a good idea, just not carried out too nicely.

So bloody disappointed I mean come on I enjoyed reading That Night, I was ever so looking forward to read One Night Stand because how things ended in the previous book, what did I get? I got a stupid, I mean STUPID female lead and a dumb airhead of a male lead too!!
I'm in a state of shock right now because I just can not believe what I read ... And on that note I'm done with this book.

While I enjoyed parts of this book, I thought Xander was a freaking asswipe jerkoff and no matter how good he was with his tongue or his cock, and no matter how many times he said he's sorry, he didn't redeem himself to me.

There were lots of funny and steamy parts, and I liked Liv better than Xander, but I didn't like how she was so weak towards him. I wanted her to tell him off and junk punch him! I didn't like how she was so hung up on him after one night. Ok, so it was a smokin hot sex filled night, but still! After some of the things he said to her, even if they were said in anger, I thought she should have told him off and walked away. Sloppy seconds my ass! Rude.

Gabby was the absolute worst character! I wanted to push her off a cliff after scratching her eyes out with a dull nail! (too much?)

I saw some negative reviews but I thought I'd go ahead and give it a chance anyway. What works for some (or doesn't work) is different for others and I have a pretty laid back approach to books so I figured I would be good. Nope. (pop that P) I get the whole sordid Gabby / Xander / Henry thing and I could see that. But I didn't like how Xander was constantly going after Liv and expecting her to just be ok he was Sometimes a cocky guy can be hot, but in this case it was annoying and irritating.

I'd love a book for Aiden and Alice and even Scott. I think out of all of Liv's siblings, Scott was my favorite!

One Night Stand picks off where we last off with Xander aka Mr. Tongue sitting in Liv’s parents living room. One night of hot passionate sex and Liv comes to face to face with her one night stand who happens to be her sister’s fiance? So as you can tell that only has the readers probably yelling OMG and WTF!!! Well if you are like, those two words came flying out of my mouth immediately when I read the prequel. And of course I wanted to get to the bottom of this so-called love triangle. One night stands could either be fun or what were you thinking scenario? So will Liv be able to face Mr. Tongue and her sister? WIll this be a one night affair or will there be more?

#ONeNightStand

This story was definitely a short enjoyable and fast read that will have you frustrated with the hot and cold Xander and at the same time be fascinated with his charm and dirty innuendos. I will say the hot and cold Xander irked me a bit and I did get annoyed that Liv was easily charmed by Xander but at the same time I understood their connections. Sometimes you can’t help but be drawn to the person you like regardless of the blurred status relationship. Would I say there is cheating? Hmm… in all technicality there is no cheating but there is the principle of being engaged. I think its hard for me to really say much because this book must be read to understand this so-called “triangle” involving Xander, Liv, and Liv’s sister, Gabby.

Overall, I did enjoy this book. But I must say that Alice and Aiden stole the show for me especially Alice. I love her character so much in this book and I’m hoping that JS Cooper will write a book for Alice and Aiden, One Night Stand was fun, sexy, humorous, and filled with a bit “drama.” It involved complicated and complex characters who were stuck in a situation that could be only solved with one of them admitting to the truth. They say the truth will set you free. So will Liv regret her one night stand? Or was it the best decision in her life? So if you are looking for a light, fresh and entertaining read with Mr. Tongue then go read One Night Stand.

Huge disappointment!

I really loved the prequel. I found it was so intriguing and then had very high expectations for this book. I couldn't believe! After the first few pages of chapter one, everything went downhill.

Xander and Liv's sister announced their engagement to the whole family... then Xander chased after Liv... and then Liv had sex with Xander... WTF! Did they have no shame? I didn't care that Xander had proposed to Liv's sister without love or it was only a business engagement. It was still wrong!

My miserable read...

To be succinct, I absolutely loved this book. Because not only was it captivating, but it was also loaded with angst, snappy dialogue, smexy pantymelting moments, and excellent character development/world-building. For me to be so enthralled for 3+ hours by a book, is a good thing, but sad to say, it's rare as well. Although there were some questionable material to contend with, I liked it.

Giving this one: 5 awesome stars....

The story was good I did enjoy it I just wished he told her what was goin an why he was putting her through it al an I do wish she was strong I know xander is totally hot an who wouldn't want him but come on liv she she have will power sometimes but she needed more an she should of punch her sister I m not violent but God her sister was a bitch she really pissed me of from the start

There was a few things left open with livs friend Alice an her bro aiden so don't know if there will b another book an I would read it cause I did like Alice just hope it wouldn't b so dragged out but overall this book was ok xxx

3 WAKE UP AND SMELL THE DAFFODILS GIRL STARS

If your looking for a short fun read, that is funny (at times) and is quite addictive, whether you want it to be or not then this might be for you!

I read this is one sitting, it grabs you straight away and pulls you into the story, a story that turns out I thought just ridiculous, the H or The Tongue as he was referred to was a total nob head and the h, Liv well words fail me...........! When you don't like the H and h it doesn't bode well for the book, which i hasten to add i was really looking forward to and had hgh hopes for, and i am a little bit more than pissed off about that!

The 3 stars were for the prologue, and the ending was ok, though whether that was because of what was written or just the fact that it was indeed the end of the book i have yet to decide, sad but true.

OMG this was one of the dumbest storylines I can remember reading in all my days of reading books!!!
If you like stupid soap operas then you will like this... Go on and read it

Most every decision made by every character had me like... HUH???? What???

Ugh! I dont even want to waste time reviewing this. I'd be tempted to spoil... Like why would the bitch confide her gold-digging schemes to her siblings that she is not close to??? Especially before she gets the gold???

POSITIVES:
short quick read
pretty hot sex
complex storyline keeps you guessing... (Never mind that the final answer is DUMB!!)

2.5 Stars / 3 Steam Fans

WTF!! The first part was regurgitation of That Night where you meet Liv and her mystery man that rocked her world. At the end of that novella you find out who he is so logically this book should just pick up from there.....but OH NO you get a rehash of events for the first 5 percent of the book. THEN there are a few more flashbacks but those don't compare to the crazy nonsense that occurs throughout the entire story. Liv, Zander, and the entire cast are just ridiculous with everything they do.

This specific video review will be included in the July 2019 wrap-up.
