This is the second book I’ve read from Kel McCord now, and I’m starting to see a pattern. And it looks like based off the other reviews I’m the only one feeling this way.
Michelle is a newly single mom of 2 whose husband cheats on her, leaving her to pick up the pieces of her broken family. Cas is a “bachelor” kind of woman who has no interest in relationships and enjoys the life she lives. When they meet, an instant friendship comes about.
To me, they seemed better as friends. There could’ve been a lot more depth to the build up of their relationship that could have changed my mind about that.
My biggest issue was that I didn’t like Cas at all. For a 44 year old woman, she acted really immature and honestly super hurtful towards Michelle, whose 12 years her junior.
As someone who has actually been in Cas’s position, being with someone who already had a kid and was divorcing her husband at the time, Cas really should’ve thought about all of it before jumping into bed with Michelle. Kids aren’t for everyone, and Cas should clearly know that, but the moment Michelle’s kids needed her and she had to leave, Cas was so butthurt she basically ghosted her? Plus for the kids being a big part of this story, it felt like Cas also had no relationship or connection with them either. To be honest, she kind of felt “whatever” about them.
On top of that, it being Michelle’s first time with a woman and walking out like that? Not cool. I honestly loved Michelle so much and she was really put together for everything she was going through.
Again, this is where the depth comes in, because I feel like we should’ve dove deeper into their whole relationship so the whole connection could be felt. But as soon as Cas apologized Michelle just jumped right back in her arms, and after how Cas acted, I would’ve made her work a LOT harder.
The ending was a little underwhelming, and I was disappointed to see the “I love yous” because lesbians always get stereotyped to “uhaul” and this felt very uhaul. A bummer.
Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes for the ARC.

Cas is a full time paramedic and a part time ski patrol rescuer. She finds a “lost” girl skiing off by herself and reunites her with her upset mother and younger brother. Michelle, the distraught mom and Cas clash harshly and there is zero connection at that time. Later when a friendship begins and both become attracted to each other, I thought the story picked up energy and the chemistry was believable.
Although Cas is in her mid 40’s, away from work, she’s unserious. Nothing wrong with being casual and enjoying the single life. But she finds it difficult to navigate a relationship when that situation involves a woman who has small children. My favorite aspect of the book is wholeheartedly Michelle. She has spent her entire adult life devoted to her former husband and children. Now that she is getting divorced, the bottom of her life has dropped out and she’s trying to deal with the emotional crash while still supporting her kids. Enter Cas who has commitment issues and sometimes it’s not a good mix for Michelle who is much younger but much steadier. I liked the intimate scenes between them and the ending is satisfying. In the real world, I would imagine this couple as an hfn because Michelle seems to have a bigger life in mind now that she’s free.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an arc. I am leaving a review voluntarily.
McCord writes easy to read books with short chapters that make you devour the book. I loved the scenes where Michelle takes care of Cas when she is injured. The book is rather short, which is both a good and a bad thing. It’s a good thing because it makes it really easy to read, but it can prevent the characters from truly having real growth. For instance, I wished to see Michelle finding herself after 10 years of being just a mother and a wife. In this case, it felt a bit too easy and superficial. My second issue is with Cas. She is an excellent medic, ready to help, but her behavior with Michelle was really childish and selfish, and the explanation from her upbringing did not convince me. I almost didn’t want Michelle to forgive her as she showed red flag behavior. The short book contributed to making me feel the conflict was too easily resolved and Cas needed to do more work on herself. Overall, it was enjoyable, but with a longer version, McCord could have gone deeper into Cas and Michelle’s story.
This was a story about Michelle, a 32 year old divorced straight woman with two kids. And Cas an EMT who’s 46 and single. They meet on the ski sloops where Cas works on the ski patrol and ends up rescuing Michelle’s 10 year old daughter.
I liked the easy relationship between Michelle and Cas, their texting and phone calls seemed believable and realistic. Both were lonely and enjoyed each others company. I could even believe how Michele appreciated Cas’s desire for her ( since she never felt that from her ex husband ). I didn’t believe how easily Michelle accepted and felt comfortable with their fist sexual meet up. It was way too easy and unemotional. And Cas was too self centered to appreciate Michelle’s need to take care of her kids.
The relationship needed more finesse and time to ease into it. Overall I enjoyed the book and would read more from this author.
Thanks BSB and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I always love when sapphic romance involves kids. I don't know why, but I guess I like seeing the possibility of a sapphic relationship that involves kids. I think the author did a great job at incorporating the kids into the story. That is not any easy thing to do. I also feel like it was realistic as well.
I did find myself a little irked at Cas. Girl, you're 44, just because your mom was crap doesn't mean you shouldn't realize that Michelle's kids come first. I found it odd how she basically threw a tantrum when they had to go get the daughter. She was immature in how she treated Michelle sometimes as well, even outside of their relationship.
This was a quick read and I didn't want to put it down. With that being said, I do wish there was a little more in terms of them building their relationship, especially after the third act break up. We get a little bit of a conversation, but I do feel as if a longer conversation was needed about dating, especially Cas dating a single mom.
But, I really enjoyed this!! I think the author is getting better with each book and I can't wait to read more from her!! A solid 3.5 stars.
Enjoyed it but who jumps on someone else’s knee during a scary part in a movie if thy are not flirting. I have to say I thought the first intimate scene seemed a bit straight to base considering one was new to wlw, but the writer rescued the scene for me. Unfortunately their actual first intimate scene didn’t work for me either…. I think I just have a block on one aspect of it when it is a woman’s first time with another woman. Personal preference obviously. 70% in and I really don’t get a plot turn….. I presume redemption is ahead but if I was the other main, I’m not sure I would stick around. Well I would be wrong….. but I feel that there was a lack of maturity in the older main…. Just as well I am perfect!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bold Strokes Books and Kel McCord for this ARC opportunity. I’m happily leaving my honest review.
I was excited to have the chance to read the latest by Kel McCord! I really enjoyed this book and was happily entertained from beginning to end. Experts Only is a wonderful and heartwarming sapphic romance. I absolutely love a good toaster oven story and this one delivered. The slow burn aspect made this love story sweet and believable for me. I read the entire thing in one sitting and was thoroughly entertained. This was a wonderful winter time sapphic romance. Michelle is a devoted single mom whose recent split from her asshole ex husband has left her a free woman. She wants to make her children' s winter break memorable and so she decides on a ski trip! She meets Cas, a medic and ski patroller, when Cas must sort of rescue her daughter. Cas is fiercely independent and really isn’t looking for a relationship and that’s what makes this story so special. It is an unlikely pairing but opposites do attract after all.
The sweet romance between Michelle & Cas develops organically and I really enjoyed watching their connection grow & become more profound. I felt their chemistry right away but what blossoms between them feels real. I did enjoy the parenthood aspect and it was nice to see that Michelle's kids weren't an after thought but were indeed integral to the story. It was realistic to see her sort of struggle with the intense responsibility of parenthood when she has only ever been responsible for herself. I didn't feel this made her a crappy person but it just made the entire story feel more real. If you have only ever had to think about yourself for forty ish years adjusting to parenthood is going to be very difficult. I felt that the budding relationship between Cas and Mercedes and TJ were realistic and heartwarming. The story progresses at a pace that I could appreciate. I felt like Michelle and Cas were very sweet together and despite being so different, did actually complement each other's lives quite well. Michelle and her kids add meaning, depth, stability and an emotional element that Cas lacks. Cas adds an adventurous spirit and a true heart to Michelle's life. Sure, the parenthood aspect will be a learning curve but what isn't? I absolutely loved the spicy romantic interludes! Very hot and I liked that there wasn't any weirdness in Michelle exploring sex with a woman for the first time. For me, it added to the story and was very fun to read.
I really enjoyed McCords voice in this book. The writing was clear, clean and witty while still being quite emotional and heartfelt. The use of humor made for a fun and lighthearted element that was really great. I appreciated the sparkling dialogue between Cas and Michelle. Every interaction and conversation highlighted their genuine connection and growing feelings. I enjoyed the inner thoughts and introspection as it helped me to really get to know the main characters. The pacing of the story was on point with a definite immediate chemistry and slow burn love.
I would recommend this story for all lovers of a warm and cozy wintertime sapphic romance with a lot of heart. This felt like a perfect winter themed read that I found tender and deeply romantic while also being humorous and lighthearted. If you enjoy slow-ish burn romance with a toaster oven kicker, give Experts Only a shot!
⭐Third Person, Dual POV ⭐Single Mother with Kids ⭐Age Gap 44/32
Things I liked: The book has some really fun banter moments in it, I had a couple of little chuckles at the humour. The snow setting was fun. I liked the idea of the older ski patrol paramedic, and the single mother with two kids storyline. The boat show.
Initially Cas, who volunteers for Ski Patrol with a day job as a paramedic, comes off as concerned about Mercedes’ safety when she tells newly separated 32-year-old mum Michelle off for allowing her 10-year-old daughter to do one last ski run by herself with no supervision. However, the further I got into the book, the more it seemed like 44-year-old Cas, the perpetual no relationship girl, has not ever remotely processed her childhood with no father and a flighty/hippy mother. So, whenever anything comes up that makes Michelle put the kids first, Cas’ first reaction is to get hurt, offended, and offput. I would be okay with that if there was more time developing Cas’ character to show that she is improving on herself to deal with those issues so that she can be mentally able to not compete with the kids for attention. Normally if I read a single parent romance, I like the non-parent person to form a really good bond with the kids, not that they have to become the new parent, but just that the relationship that is formed with the kids is just as important as the one formed with the parent. It didn’t really feel like that happened here. There were definitely some bonding moments with both kids, but to me Cas seemed to primarily only be interested in Michelle, and then the kids were just tag-alongs, which really coloured my opinion of their romance.
While there were a few things about this book that didn’t quite hit the spot for me, consider this book if you are someone who may enjoy reading about a mid-40s woman learn to become a relationship and kid person after a lifetime of avoiding commitment. It may also appeal to anyone who enjoys reading about skiing and snowboarding, as it was quite cozy in that respect.
Thank you to Kel McCord, Bold Strokes Books, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of Experts Only for review purposes.
(3.5 Stars) Michelle Barret is 32 and has been a stay at home mom of TJ and Mercedes. Her husband of ten years leaves and she learns he is cheating on her. She takes them skiing on Mount Hood. She meets Cas Grazer who works part time on the ski patrol. In talking they realize they live in the same town of Lake Oswego. Cas is 46 and is a full time paramedic. They start off texting and quickly become friends. Cas is perpetually single, never choosing to do relationships. The friendship becomes closer when Cas is injured on the job and allows Michelle to be a caregiver to her.
The story is likable and easy to read on the surface. The short chapters zipped by and I read this in one sitting. It is hard to measure time as there are jumps. The end of one chapter has Michelle thinking of downsizing her house and in the next chapter she is already moving. Similarly, she tells her father, a lawyer and her husband’s employer that she needs a divorce and the next moment a month has passed and she is still waiting on paperwork. I like that I can imply there is time to build on the pair's growing friendship. But I was never clear on how much time had passed. I liked the kids and they behaved age appropriately. But I was perplexed they do not seem to be having any reaction to their father leaving and ghosting them.
I honestly have two big issues with the story. One is a personal rule for me. Michelle is barely separated. In my mind she is not free to date at any point in this novel. Even though other reviewers have said otherwise, Michelle is NOT divorced. And my other issue is Cas herself. She should know herself better to know if she wants to be involved with someone with children. She whines about getting stuck with them while on a date. And when Michelle gets called by one while they are having private times she has an adult temper tantrum. It was ridiculous and a deal breaker for me.
Of course the story ends in a happy place but I am not sure I felt realistically satisfied. Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the eARC and I am leaving an honest review.
I have ambivalent feelings about this book. On one hand it was easy to read, the writing was good, but I had a really hard time seeing the MCs as a couple that will last. Why try to make it into that when I think they work as a casual thing, great in bed, but will never work long term with the attitude Cas has, Michelle deserves so much better.
Michelle, a mother of two, has been left by a really shitty husband. She tries to cope and move on and come across Cas, a 12 year older player that never has looked for a relationship and a woman with kids not something she wants to get involved with. Michelle has never been with a woman before, and Cas is great in bed but to think she will be ready for a relationship and embrace Michelle’s life with kids that always will be a priority is ridiculous. The author tries to smooth over Cas’s actions with her having had a shitty mother and the fact that she nor anyone else ever put her first, but she is acting so immature and selfish. To think that Michelle should adjust to accommodate Cas instead of vice versa, that Cas tries to get to know Michelle’s kids and adapt to that reality makes me very frustrated. When they after some great sex say they love each other is just stupid, loving someone is so much more than being compatible in bed. I am sure they can have some good times in bed but after that I really hope Michelle moves on and try to find her HEA person, Cas is not that.

This was my first time reading this author and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. You know it’s a good book when you’re sneaking in chapters during any spare time you can find. What I found so refreshing about this book is that it was about the romance and it didn’t divert from that. Lately it feels like authors care more about writing books with more pages so you get tons of “filler” just to lengthen the book regardless of how boring it makes the book. There was NONE of that here. *tiny spoilers ahead* This book was definitely getting a 5 start review until it hit about the 75% mark and the author decided she had to follow script and throw in the obligatory break up scene. This book was an age gap toaster story romance yet the author made the older, more experienced lesbian come off as so immature just to force them apart. This book would’ve been perfect had the author not had the breakup and just left it a low angst romance. She could’ve easily spent more time showing how their romance overcame the hurdles of all the other tropes in this book (ie age gap, kids, sexual awakening, first time relationship/love) because we didn’t even get the usual epilogue on this one. Even with my disappointment about the obligatory breakup scene this was still one of the best books I’ve read in awhile so I highly recommend and I will definitely be reading more by this author.

I really enjoyed this book. I just didn’t love it.
There were parts that worked so well for me and parts that held it back from being great. Cas became a little unlikeable at one stage. I understand trauma, I really do. But at some point you either grow or you stop complaining. It started feeling repetitive instead of layered.
Michelle, on the other hand, was impossible to dislike. I adored her. What really stayed with me was how little she believed she deserved after her previous marriage. It wasn’t frustrating, it was sad. She had clearly internalised being treated like she didn’t matter. The problem is we never really see her unpack that. She more or less just moves forward. I wanted to witness the shift. I wanted the emotional work on the page. Instead it felt like we were told she was healing without fully experiencing it.
The skiing scenes were such a highlight. They felt immersive and fun and different. And Cas with the kids? Always a win for me. I love seeing blended families handled with care and those interactions genuinely warmed me.
Where the book lost me slightly was the pacing. Some sections dragged, then the ending felt rushed. At the same time it somehow also felt too abrupt. I think an epilogue would have helped it feel more complete.
There were moments that absolutely landed and had me feeling everything. But overall a lot of the development felt a little surface level when it could have gone deeper.
Still, I genuinely enjoyed reading it. I never struggled to pick it up and I stayed invested. It just didn’t quite reach great for me.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
who doesnt like a storyline with snow and mountains......
when michelle first meets cas its as a frantic mother who has lost her daughter....... cas met the daughter on the ski lift going up to the top of the mountain..... luckily for them both cas worked at ski patrol so when she heard the call about a missing girl she knew right away she was sat by her.....
being lectured by cas about letting her daughter go on the ski lift alone didnt go down with michelle who was just holding it together
michelles home life is in bits when her husband decided to leave her for a younger woman.... right before christmas.... so this trip to the mountains was to distract her children from the adult mess.... but instead it increased her tension
but it was the next day when cas witnessed the daughters melt down about wanting to ski and the son not wanting to go that decided cas day.... she volunteered to take tj snow boarding and thats when it started.....
have to say this storyline hooked me .... its so innocently done and the writting so captivating that you go along for the ride to see how cas and michelle can make it work or not.... there is a lot of baggage on both sides and it was a great ride to see it all play out
looking forward to reading what this author brings out next
Cas Grazer lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and works as a paramedic and volunteers for the Mount Hood ski patrol which is about an hour from her home and work. When Cas works on the ski patrol she lives in a Sprinter van, visits the lodge bar, and partakes in the company of female companionship. She is forty-four years old and eternally single.
Michelle Barret is a thirty-two-year-old stay at home mom who has found out that her husband, Tommy, has been cheating on her. They have a ten-year-old, Mercedes, and a seven-year-old, TJ. One day/evening, Michelle takes her children to Mount Hood for skiing. Michelle runs into ski patrol member, Cas, when Michelle needs support for Mercedes on one of the slopes. Following Cas' rescue of Mercedes, Cas and Michelle stay in touch via texting and phone conversations. They grow close over time as Michelle is going through changes in her martial situation and as Cas sustains an injury while on the job and Michelle supports her recovery.
Some highlights of the story included the location; the descriptions of the mountain, the skiing and the snowboarding; and children's interactions with Cas. On the improvement side, the story did lack some depth on the character development area which was very surface level. 3.5 stars
I received an ARC from Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book follows Michelle, a recent single mother of two young children after divorcing her husband, and during a ski trip with her kids, one of them runs off to run some runs without telling anyone, resulting in Ski Patrol volunteer Cas to enter their lives. Cas, a perpetual bachelor paramedic who spends their weekend volunteering with ski patrol, finds their lives flipped upside down as Michelle and her family stumble into her live.
This isn't a bad read but I felt like that was a debut novel novel. There was some scenes that felt short or rushed, as well as moments that were told rather than shown. The story is fairly predictable which shouldn't be surprising given it is a romance, but it was missing that thing that makes it a great read or a book that would be a re-read. I did make it through the book fairly quickly and I did enjoy it, but a bit more time with the characters exploring their relationships and how they navigate their flaws, would have made it better.
All in all, not a bad book but not a favorite. It could have used a bit more time for the characters to work through the bumps and flaws. I would recommend to fans of romances with mothers.
Michelle, newly jobless divorced mom of 2 (32) meets, Cas, indepent bacholorette (44) paramedic. Married high-school crush vs. I don't do relationships... I liked the premises of this book. McCord opens the book with her Acknowledgements and the wish to write a book about the skiing mountain place that she and her wife often visit and have built many beautiful memories. And succeeded in that. I'm not a skiier, nor do I like snow and cold very much but this place I'd like to see IRL.
I also liked the banter between Cas and Michelle. It's funny, real and promising to be featured in future books. The development of the relationship between Cas and Michelle was also honest and felt believable. The spicy scenes are hot as well ;-) What I didn't like was that you don't really get that much background about why Cas doesn't do relationships and why she is sometimes feels so rejected by people. It felt a bit rushed, especially when you write with 2 perspectives this could've been giving a bit more attention because I thought it was essential to understand Cas better. Therefore 4 stars. -- I read this through an #ARC from #NetGalley--- #ExpertsOnly
Smart, engaging, and confidently written Experts Only by Kel McCord delivers exactly what the title promises—a sharp, engaging read that respects the reader’s intelligence while remaining accessible and compelling throughout. The book is thoughtfully constructed, with clear intent and a strong authorial voice that makes the material feel both authoritative and engaging. What stands out most is how effectively McCord balances insight with momentum. The content is well‑researched and presented with clarity, but it never feels dry or overly technical. Instead, the ideas build naturally, drawing the reader in and encouraging deeper thought without becoming overwhelming. The writing is polished and confident, making this a book that feels purposeful from start to finish. Whether you’re approaching it for professional growth, intellectual curiosity, or a fresh perspective, Experts Only offers meaningful takeaways and a rewarding reading experience. Highly recommended for readers who appreciate substance, clarity, and a well‑executed approach to complex ideas.
3.5 ⭐ This book follows Michelle, a single mom of two who was just left by her husband, and Cas, a first responder who spends her days off working as ski patrol when they have a chance meeting on the slopes after Michelle's daughter gets away from her. This is a sweet age gap, where the mom is the younger of the two. It started off fairly strong but as the book progressed, the pacing was a bit all over the place. Cas was definitely the immature one of the pair and I would have liked to see her form a bit more of a bond with MIchelle's kids. She didn't take the idea of being put second to her kids very well at first and I would have loved this book to explore that dynamic a little bit more. I would have also loved the explore family dynamics a bit more and have Cas more integrated into Michelle's family. All in all a cute book but felt a little rushed. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC
Thank you to Netgalley for providing us with an ARC.
I really enjoyed this book, it was such a fun and easy read.
Michelle is a newly single mother who is learning to become the fun parent and to prioritise her own wants and needs. Cas is a fiercely independent paramedic working extra as snow patrol. She has never been in a serious relationship, never being able to commit and open up. After they meet when Michelle is on a skiing trip with her kids they start to form a friendship. When Cas gets hurt Michelle decides to care for her despite Cas’ many protests and they develop stronger feelings for each other.
I found the characters likeable for the most part despite some flaws and I think their relationship development felt believable and reasonably paced, taking into account that this is quite a short book.
I would recommend it to anyone looking to jump start the reading flow, a palette cleanser, or just a light and fun read.
Michelle is a mother of two children Mercedes and TJ who learns that her husband Tommy has been cheating on her. She decides to take her children Mount Hood for skiing to distract her children while she figure out what to do. Michelle meets Cas who is paramedic and volunteers for the Mount Hood ski patrol when she needs her help with her daughter. Michelle and Cas continue to talk through phone conversations and texting which make them grow closer as Michelle deals with her marriage Cas gets injury and they both become each other support that turns into something more. It’s was a good read while I like Cas and how she was with the kids and I understand having trauma but keep using it to justify your behavior is wrong I adore Michelle wish she didn’t feel she didn’t deserved happiness I always wanted to learn skiing so it’s was nice describing how it’s done.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
This was underwhelming, not great but not terrible either.
Two women meet, Cas 44 a bachelorette for life attitude and Michelle 30 something mother of two who has broken up from her cheating husband. Whole later realised she is falling for Cas and Cas has fallen for a straight woman.
Firstly the pacing of the story just doesn’t feel right as it seems to be really quick then drawn out and honestly I just got bored. I didn’t really like Cas, just couldn’t warm to her some of the conversations and way their relationship developed felt wrong and her behaviour at times was juvenile. Also she kept making out Michelle was really young I could have understood it if she was in her early 20s but I didn’t get it! And the bad mother trope was ridiculous.
Unfortunately not for me, I think two stars is pretty generous for this but I hope others enjoy. I was given an opportunity to read via NetGalley and bold stroke books.
Experts Only jumps right into the story and stays there throughout; you know exactly where these characters will end up when they meet on the mountain. This is a slow-burn, toaster oven, age gap, single parent/commitment-phobe romance with a thin slice of communication issues and drama. If any of those tropes appeal to you, then you’ll find this a perfectly satisfactory read.
Personally, I wish this book had more depth and character development and that the conversations between the characters (main and side) went even just a little beyond surface level.
Overall while not for me in its execution, McCord writes in a fast-paced and engaging way that most readers would enjoy.
Thanks NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books, Inc., for this free arc/copy of Experts Only by Kel McCord; all opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Experts Only has a lot to offer. It explores family dynamics and the impact a divorce can have when children are involved. The story also shows the personal development of a parent who begins to question their choices: what do I want now, what truly matters, and why did I make the decisions I made in the past?
At the same time, it follows the perspective of someone who has always been the eternal single, someone who never wanted to commit because of old emotional wounds. The story shows that love has many sides. There are ups and downs, love can be unpredictable, but it can also bring a great deal of joy and growth.
Ultimately, the book highlights that you can take control of your own life, and that you deserve to be happy.
I received a free copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was an easy read, with relatively low angst following a newly single mom and a childfree paramedic/ski patrol with a bit of a reputation for being a player. While I wouldn’t call this an opposites-attract novel, it definitely has elements of the trope, with the two main characters approaching aspects of life from such different perspectives that I had a hard time seeing how they could make it work. That said, the characters were all well-written and there was enough emotional pull that I remained invested in the story. With the skiing/snow patrol focus, this is definitely a good book to read while curled up with blankets and a cozy drink.
Experts Only is a heartfelt, wintry romance that blends sharp banter with meaningful emotional growth. The age-gap dynamic, the snowy setting, and the contrast in Michelle and Cas’s emotional journeys all come together beautifully. Michelle’s kids add so much warmth and heart to the story; they feel authentic, lovable, and central to Michelle’s choices, which makes everything feel even more grounded and real. At its core, this is a story about second chances, self-discovery, and finding the courage to open your heart when love shows up unexpectedly.

Kel McCord does not know how to write a bad book! Kel McCord has become an author that if she writes it, I want to read it.
A very sweet and easy read, I would have happily read so much more of these two, I just could not put it down. I really enjoyed reading this while watching the Winter Olympics in the background, it just made it that much more perfect.
The story is very much orientated around just the two of them, so it was nice to have the side characters in the story so little, just to say to the MC’s what we are all thinking as we read it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Ms McCord for the chance to read such a warm and lovely story, I cannot wait for Ms McCord’s next book.
This book follows Michelle, a recent divorcee with two kids after divorcing her husband. During a ski trip, one of them disappears and in comes Cas, a bachelor paramedic who gets more than she bargained for.
It's not a bad book, but not the best. It felt rushed when it could have used more detail and more pacing. Show rather than tell is important for a reason. The story plays out exactly like I thought with no surprises. It's an easy read with little to no angst. I wish there was more depth with the Cas and Michelle and how they navigated their relationship and etc.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I didn't dislike this book, but it was just ok for me. The pacing didn't work for me- large swathes of time would pass from chapter to chapter (like months) and even within scenes, a conversation that took up a single page was apparently enough time for a kid's lessons to be over. I also think because so much time happened off page, we didn't actually get to see Cas and Michelle getting to know each other or see how they became so close. (Also, Cas making fun of whatever kids' Star Wars TJ is watching at the end sealed the deal for me bc those are some of my favorite shows 😂)
I received an ARC of Experts Only thanks to the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the complicated backstories of the two female leads and how they messed together. There was just the right amount of conflict and tension between and within the main characters. It's technically on the shorter side (at least for my preference), but it is done so well that I didn't even notice. With shorter romances I've noticed that they feel incomplete in someway but that is not the case with Experts Only. Definitely a great read!
Sometimes I read a romance story and I love it, but know the two characters would never last in the real world. That's not the case with Cas and Michelle. They are written in a real way. They compliment one another so well. This was like a big bowl of soup: warm and comforting.
