SOME LOVES KILL, AND OTHERS BRING YOU BACK TO LIFE.
Before reaching the end, you need to understand the beginning. A standalone novel in the hottest romantasy series of the moment.
“The Spanish Sarah J. Maas.” —@Mary.kate.reads “The new sensation in romantasy.” —Judit Betran, El Periódico They weren’t opposites. They were the same essence, split across different times. United by the same thread.
When a disease called Oblivion begins to afflict the inhabitants of Pramvera, Savannah O’Hara—the emperor’s daughter—seems to be the only one at court concerned for those suffering from it and for its origin.
As the princess tries to heal the sick, a strange horseman surprises her. He seems disoriented, yet at the same time he looks at her as if he knew her from before, from another place, from another life. He, unfortunately, knows much more than Savannah about what is about to happen. He is certain that this is the beginning of the end of the empire, of the dragons, and of magic. But the mystery who is behind it all, and above all, why?
In a standalone story from the Phoenix & Dragon saga, featuring a plot as clever as it is addictive, Lucía Cerezo reveals the beginning of the empire’s great conflict and all the great how is a villain born?
There are books that entertain you for a few hours, and then there are books that stay with you long after you've chosed the final page. "Los Hilos del Imperio" belongs firmly in the second category. Lucía Cerezo has crafted a story that feels ambitious without becoming overwhelming, weaving together politics, personal ambition, loyalty, and sacrifice into a narrative that constantly rewards the reader's attention.
What impressed me the most was the author's confidence in her storytelling. Rather than rushing major events. she allows the characters and the world to develop naturally. Every decision carries consequences, and the emotional weight behind those choices gives the novel a sense of realism that isn't always easy to achieve in fantasy. The characters, particularly the central cast, feel layered and believable, with motivations that evolve instead of remaining static.
Another strength is the world-building. It's detailed enough to make the setting feel lived in, but it never overwhelms the narrative with unnecessary exposition. Information is revealed at a steady pace, encouraging the reader to piece together the larger picture rather than simply receiving it all at once. I also appreciated the balance between quieter character-driven moments and the broader political conflicts, which kept the story engaging throughout.
My five-star rating reflects how completely this novel achieved what it set out to do. It captivated me from beginning to end, delivered memorable characters, thoughtful themes, and satisfying emotional payoffs without sacrificing the complexity of its world. Very few books leave me feeling both entertained and intellectually engaged, but "Los Hilos del Imperio" accomplished exactly that. It's the kind of novel I would happily recommend to anyone who enjoys character-driven fantasy with depth, heart, and exceptional storytelling.
