I assume this will be a continued series, and not necessarily a trilogy -- I find season 3 often the worst for that reason. I know this story had to happen, and everything in Dame's backstory needed to be concluded, but it didn't really feel like a 'mystery' to me. A lot of the reveals I felt I already knew, and I was just waiting for something I wasn't unsure of to pop up. I loved the ending because #TeamGus although a love triangle might have been fun 😂. I WILL say the main villain *really* got under my skin, so yknow, good writing as always. The Luna reveal felt a little on the nose and I wish the final battle, so to speak, had more time; all that build up for a page or two reveal. I look forward to future books, but I am sad to have only given this a 3⭐️ when the previous two were a 5⭐️, and one of them is now a favourite.

Many thanks to @gregrhyno and his publisher for sending me this copy! The thing I love about Dame's mysteries is that they are fun to read, and real page turners yet also gritty and atmospheric. The vivid Toronto setting is messy, scandalous and fun to see. (I love when books talk about places I have been). Dame is forthright, impressive and often made me laugh with her sense of dry humour.
This one centers on crooked politicians, a kidnapping, and plenty of suspense. If you have not read a Damn Polara mystery yet, catch up! But also, this book can work as a standalone.
