Everyone has beasts in their hearts, agent, and so do you.
Okay, the main reason I'm knocking off a star is because the Rosmei translation is utterly atrocious! I was miserable that I ended up picking up the ftl instead, and let me tell you! The translator is funny and did an overall really good job, with the exception of some grammer errors at times, but not enough to make me angry or annoyed.
Anyway! Onto the story, this is such a fun story! I didn't realize how much I was going to like the characters: each with their own morals that makes me question my own morals.
Do you want to persuade me to turn back and return to the arms of the law, Sir? Unfortunately, she (the law) is preoccupied.
A lot of politicians, corrupt officials, profiteers, and organizations have already spoiled her, and like a prostitute who is in the late stage of AIDS, she simply does not care about the murderers who have little influence. Because you know, no matter how hard murderers try, they can only kill people one by one, while the politicians only need to open their mouths to kill a city and destroy the country." Sha Qing laughed mockingly
Each has a drive to do what they think is best, making both, villians, to each other. Especially Leo to himself as he often tries to assert himself of his believes.
I believe that the value of my life is still far from being used to its fullest, so I worked hard to eradicate evil and maintain justice ... I hid behind the bright and clear skin of a law enforcer, while inside me is the soul of a black and rotten criminal!
The chemistry is insane! Off the charts that even as the messy kiss that was covered with blood, I was giddy! (okay... Ew. What the hell's wrong with me!) *shakes my inner demon vigorously*
Anyway!
Also, Leo's back story and how he was able to find peace for a certain incident was very well written! It was crazy enough, with both (ehem: only one) men that live(s) rent free in his brain, right beside him.
This last arc is my absolute favorite so far! The last two were so good! The cases are very creative and interesting.
The beginning started off with an amazing intro, turning into a super cliché and honestly, weird next arc, but about 2/3 of the way in, I was hooked!
Give this a read!
I was going to set the story down if it didn't peak my interest to finish for a later time, but fuck it! I'm moving on to volume two!

“Think about it, even the most deadly murderer has got to murder his victims one at a time, but politicians, on the other hand, might exterminate whole nations with a word.”
I went into this knowing dark crime stories are usually my thing, and this book definitely has the kind of setup that gets me. I like stories with messy characters, questionable morals, and relationships that feel tense from the start. Leo being a special agent haunted by something from his past really worked for me, especially because he doesn’t feel like someone who has everything figured out. I also liked the Green Cleaner as an uncompromising vigilante who completely believes in what he’s doing. I love their dynamic. There’s danger, obsession, curiosity, and a lot of moral contradiction between them. I liked how Leo isn’t just chasing someone dangerous. He’s also being pulled toward someone who understands killers on a level that feels disturbing but fascinating. That kind of tension is right up my alley.
At the same time, this felt a little too calm for a crime novel. With this premise, I expected more urgency, but the pacing is pretty quiet for a story about serial killers and vigilante justice. I still found parts interesting, but I didn’t always feel the suspense as strongly as I wanted to. I also think Volume 1 depends a lot on whether you read the synopsis first. If you don’t read it, the story may be confusing. If you do read it, it gives away so much that some things don’t feel as mysterious anymore. I’m the type of person who reads the synopsis right before starting a book, so I already knew a lot going in. One part I didn’t like was the story around Abigail and how they made up some sort of delusion to make Leo feel better. Without getting into spoilers, I just didn’t like that part. But I can see how real people would really come up with that kind of idea.
Even with my issues, I’m not gonna lie, these kinds of stories are still my cup of tea. I really appreciate it when a volume ends at a good part, and this one did. It left me curious and excited to see what happens next, which is always a good sign for me. I also liked the physical presentation of the book. The dust cover fits the story, and the hardcover art helped me picture the characters more clearly. Even after reading a lot of danmei, I’m still figuring out what appeals to me, and this volume reminded me that I’m drawn to dark, complicated stories with characters who make questionable choices. I didn’t love everything here, and I wish the crime side had a stronger pulse, but the central dynamic has enough pull that I want to keep reading.

I quite enjoyed this start of the series. I'm a huge sucker for stories that feature criminals as their main characters so after reading the summary, I knew this series would be right up my alley. In short - the killer of killers is about a serial killer - the Green Cleaner - chasing and killing other serial killers and the FBI agent - Leo Lawrence - that is assigned to the case of identifying and stopping him. Just that when those two people meet, their relationship turns out to develop into a way that might not be entirely justifyable for an FBI-agent x Serial Killer pairing. Before we take a look at what was good, let me first go over my issues with this book:
My biggest issue with this volume was that despite such a premise, the book felt way too tame for most of the time. I would've expected crazy tension, manipulation, obessiveness and while the book definitely delivered this in some scenes, it wasn't enough for me. I understand why it was done in this way and it makes sense in the context of the story, but I still would've wished for crazy jaw-dropping scenes at times.
My second issue with the book was that the relationship development between the MCs felt a little rushed and abrupt at times. I feel like especially Leo was sometimes hard to understand and relate to as a charter and therefore also in his interactions with the ML.
However, what I really really enjoyed in this series was the overall plot. The story is essentially structured into multiple bigger arcs in which alway one FBI case is investigated in which Leo and the killer of killers are involved. The execution of those arcs was in my perspective really well done and genuinly kept me at the edge of my seat, which can make me forgive my earlier critized points.
With how the first volume ended I have really high hopes for the second volume. I see a great chance that I'll like that one even more than the first one.

excited for this slow burn - love the true crime aspect! the serial killer and the fbi agent trope is right up my alley.

I was completely bored to death by second chapter. The reader can already guess who the titular title within the first 100 pages and the last "crime" that the protagonists were trying to solve in this volume seems to be directly lifted from Richard Connell's The Most Dangerous Game (1924) that I'm surprised that the author hasn't beem charged with plagiarism yet. The only reason that I continued reading this (and Volume 2) is because I already spent money buying the books. Otherwise, what a waste of time.
