4.5 Star Read

Once again Elizabeth has knocked it out of the park! I am so glad that I had access to curses straight after book 1 (Changes) because that ending..... Thank you so much to Beth from Wings & Words, along with Elizabeth for giving me access to this e-arc, I can't wait for my physical copy to arrive.

If you liked book 1 you will LOVE book 2, everything has been amplified, I was caught off guard so many times by all the twists and turns that the story takes. Book 1 is required reading, a lot of stuff that was mentioned it brought back up in this continuation.

I'm not going to say much because spoilers, but the emotional rollercoaster this book sent me on was worth it, and my feelings and opinions towards certain characters have changed after reading Curses. You learn a lot about the main 3 characters in the book and it is very eye opening. Hanna did annoy me with her decision making at some points (I was like girl come on.. get your act together), Lucas made me want to punch him in the face (you soon find out why) , and I fell in love with Rean.....

One question I have for Elizabeth is, book 3 when?

Wow what a book! You know when they say book one is good but book 2 is better…. This is that book. What a roller coaster of emotions I have been on, I’ve been angry, sad, happy, hot under the collar and just absolutely heart broken. This book had it all, the secrets that have been revealed are so clever. I was so lucky to get an ARC copy of this book and I have never been so pleased. I hope book 3 is already underway because I have to know!! The spice in the book is also next level. I am leaving this book as heart broken as Hanna and I pray the next book can fix it somehow. Elizabeth you have smashed it out the park with this one, I’m just might be cross with you for a while for hurting my heart 💔

Curses is book 2 in the series by Elizabeth Jeffery. I read Changes SO quickly and was so excited to get this one.

I'm super honoured to have got the PR Box via Beth at Wings & Wings! I cannot wait to get the physical & items. Thank you Beth & Elizabeth.

Right from the beginning of the book the dedication had me in it's clutches 🔥❤️ "To everyone who has lost someone close to them. Your grief is valid no matter how you choose to process it. Be kind to yourself. I see you, and I love you. You are not alone." I felt this in my bones 😮‍💨😭

Elizabeth..I.. I cant... I just dont even know where to start. Book 3 when??

I am utter, absolutely. Gobsmacked. The twists, turns and traumas in this book just kept me in a constant whirlwind. My emotions are so all over the place it is insanity. And how you did it with Rean? One minute I hated him, then next I didnt mind him. The twists with that relationship. Holy.... I will always and forever remain a Lucas and Hanna fandom. They are it for me ❤️

I loved how alot of the story and little questions that were left from changes were answered. I loved getting introduced to more side characters. I feel some of them were too sidelined as side characters as some of them played what could be said a major role in the events through the whole of Curses. But I did love it.

You win hands down. 10 star read for me. This series has a special place in me, forever 😭🐺

Easily a 4.5⭐️

First you get to see Rich, still working on his empire, trying to rebuild what he lost. His parts throughout the book infuriated me, angered me. I hate his character but I love that I have such an intense hate as it shows Elizabeth Jeffery’s ability to build a good villain.

My heart hurt from the beginning for Hanna. To remember the woman she was in the first book, & seeing her now, it was saddening. The more she finds out, the more I broke for her. I just wanted a HEA for her, I was yearning for her HEA throughout the whole book.

Rean always was trying so hard to bring her back, to see the strong woman he originally imprinted on. He never gives up on her & to me that screams true love, even if it isn’t reciprocated by Hanna. I hated him in the first book but in this one I liked him, he was still annoying at times but he was a lot more loveable & did things for the greater good. It gave villain turned hero vibes & I was living for it.

Finding out what Lucas did, who Nora’s wife was & some of the other twists & turns along the way kept me hooked but also had my heart strings pulling in so many directions. I just wanted happiness & all I felt was destroyed, in the best way, of course!

This book felt like it was just the beginning & honestly, I cannot wait to see what comes next!

This book just shows the capabilities of Elizabeth Jeffery as an author, the way she writes, the character arcs, her ability to change your opinions from one book to the next. An incredible read, it broke me in so many ways.

Well I was not ready for that ending!!

The book is well paced, with lots of different things happening to keep you hooked. There’s love, pain, turmoil, found family, lots of magic, new characters coming into play. All I know is that Hannah better get the ending she deserves in the next book!

What a second book!
Shifters, found family, enemies to lovers, touching on why choose but hate fuelled, revenge, magic systems, vampires, zombies… what was not to love here.
I loved reading more into Hanna’s story and holy hell does this woman have a ride. I laughed, I gasped, I screamed, I shouted.
You go through loving characters back to hating them over and over again.
I love that there isn’t a heavy focus on spice in Elizabeth’s books, she is all about the plot and when that little razzle dazzle of the tumbles comes into play it is refreshing and very well written and to make it even better, that sprinkle that comes after a mammoth amount of tension only adds to the plot.
I cannot wait to find out what happens next in this story & also it’s going to take me a while to forgive you Elizabeth and you know why. HOW COULD YOU!!!

Thank you so much to the wings and words community and to Elizabeth for this wonderful arc.

Firstly I want to say how honoured I am for receiving not only a digital copy but a physical as well!

I didn’t think it was possible to love this book more than the first, but Elizabeth just has this way of writing that just has you hooked with every page. To be able to create such a unique romantasy set in modern day is no easy task, and it’s just executed amazingly! There’s no filler scenes for the sake of word count, every chapter has meaning and purpose to the overall story!

These characters & our FMC Hanna are going THROUGH it in this book. I love reading from the multiple different characters POV to see their insights and experiences throughout the novel. Having plot twists throughout the book makes this story just a fantastic page turner!

The way this book ends has me in my bed ugly heave crying and dying for the next book to come out😭😭😭

This book!! So book 1, Changes, was amazing and I ate it up. I was so excited for book 2 and it did NOT let me down. Yet again Elizabeth took us on a journey of every single emotion possible. I didn't want to put it down. A great plot with some delicious spice, infectious characters and heart wrenching emotions and devastations, it brought everything to the table. It was brilliant, as I expected it would be, and I can’t wait for book 3! Highly recommend this series, even if you haven’t read shifters before!

This is my honest review of Curses after receiving an ARC from the Author x

After the events of Changes I was well & truely devastated about Lucas, as I had been routing for him & Hanna from the moment we met him on the page x So the fact that Hanna spends the whole book in the company of Rean - I will admit this really bothered me - know don't get me wrong he improved from his first impression in Changes - what with the whole marking her as his, stalking, kidnapping, etc - but their whole relationship for me just felt very Stokeholm Syndrom for my liking - which is really weird because I don't mind a bit of morally grey action or my book boyfriends/husbands being a bit unhinged - unfortunately I just couldn't get past Rean's "past" - Although his fate in Cuerses I really felt were unjust, maybe he has a redemption ARC in the works that would change my opinion x

I will always route for Hanna & Lucas though, they are endgame for me x

The new characters we met in Curses brought a whole new dynamic & added so much more to the story that cleared a lot of little hints from Changes x However I am excited to learn more about Nick, Rafael & Sasha - these characters felt a little sidelined in Curses event though they play major roles in the events throughout x
I will give Elizabeth her dues as once again the twists and turns provided kept me in suspense & trying to figure certain aspects of the story through me through a loop x Super excited to see what happens next xxxxxx

I don't know what to say.....So much happens in this read, like everything! Elizabeth had me feeling every single feeling! I want to hate half the people but not sure I can, and I want to love the other half and don't know if that's acceptable. I want to repeatedly shout in characters faces, and even stab a few! If you haven't read this series, you need too....

I have no words to describe how much I loved this book!

10/10

I loved changes and was desperate for the second book and it did not disappoint.

I was initially reluctant to accept Hanna and Rean, but when Lucas came back I was glad she had Rean and how much he helped her.

I cannot get over the end and need the third body immediately

I like the story, I really like Rean and Hannah, I feel in love with their characters. I cant stand Lucas but im sure that was the intention :)
I found it was giving true blood vibes in the sense you have 3 powerful supernatural power house characters all in live with the FMC and all vested in her survival and happiness, while the FMC is a powerhouse herself and doesnt really have confidence till near the end of the book.

4.5⭐️'s

Grief. Guilt. Unstable, dangerous magic. The supernatural. And a city teetering on the edge of a Lycan Empire uprising.
What a read!

I finished this book and just sat there staring at the wall for a moment, trying to process everything that had just happened.

Curses picks up immediately where book one, Changes, left off. Lucas is trapped in a cursed coma, Rich is on the run trying to restore the powers Hanna took from him, and Hanna herself is stuck working alongside one of the last people she would ever choose, while desperately trying to track down the witch responsible for cursing Lucas.

But that’s only the beginning.

Hanna is not only battling external threats, she’s also navigating crushing grief, the guilt of taking a life, and the terrifying reality of her newly discovered magic. Watching her struggle through all of this made her feel incredibly real as a character. At times I felt deeply sorry for her, and at others I couldn’t help but admire her resilience. Personally, I think I would have crawled into a cave and hoped the world forgot about me.

It had been about five months and dozens of books since I finished Changes, so I was a little worried I might struggle to remember everything. Thankfully, Elizabeth handles this brilliantly. She has an enviable ability to weave in reminders for the reader without it ever feeling obvious or heavy-handed.

Just when I thought I knew who I was rooting for and who I didn’t trust, this book completely flipped my expectations. Alliances shift, perceptions change, and suddenly nothing feels quite as certain as it once did.

And that ending…

No. Absolutely not.

I refuse to accept being left like that.
I need book three immediately.

I would like to thank Elizabeth Jeffery, amd Beth from Wings and Words for an early copy of Curses.

Curses by Elizabeth Jeffery is the second installment in The Awakening series.

A paranormal romance featuring wolf shifters (Lycans), magic, grief, betrayal, and high stakes conflict.

And I think I liked this one just a little bit more than the first one 😉

Following directly from the first book Changes, it picks up with Hanna grappling with profound loss, guilt over killing a Lycan, and her restless magic.
With her love interest Lucas in a magical coma, Hanna teams up, albeit reluctantly with Rean (an “enemy” of sorts) to journey to Stolton in search of a cure.
Along the way, they encounter an enigmatic club owner, lone wolves, and dive deeper into a world of escalating threats as the villain Rich schemes to rebuild a terrifying empire, unleashing chaos and strange creatures!

Hanna’s internal struggle with grief and guilt grabbed me from the first page.
The plot weaves in enemies to lovers dynamics, shifting alliances, found family elements, and a broader supernatural mystery involving necromancy vibes, underground threats, and a magic shop revelation that shatters Hanna’s reality further. (If this had been me, I think I might have just curled up into a ball and cried.)

Overall, if you enjoyed Changes or love paranormal romances with wolf shifters, magic, moral gray areas, and “can’t put it down until it’s read”, Curses looks like the compelling, and heartbreaking book for you.

If you’ve read Changes, this one is poised to hit even harder.

Highly recommended 🥰 except for the CLIFFHANGER!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review – Curses by Elizabeth Jeffrey

Curses picks up right where Changes left off, throwing Hanna even deeper into a world that keeps expanding in darker and more dangerous ways. What I enjoyed most about this sequel was how much the emotional stakes grew. Hanna is no longer just discovering the supernatural world around her — she’s dealing with grief, guilt, and the consequences of choices that can’t be undone.

The story does a great job of showing Hanna’s internal conflict. Her magic feels like a living thing inside her, restless and unpredictable, which adds a lot of tension throughout the book. Watching her navigate that while trying to save Lucas kept the plot moving and made the journey feel urgent.

The travel to Stolton introduces some interesting new characters and settings, especially the mysterious club owner and the collective of lone wolves. I liked how the world-building expanded here — the hints of deeper magic, strange creatures beneath the city, and the growing unrest among the Lycans made the story feel bigger than just Hanna’s personal struggle.

Rich continues to be a compelling antagonist, and the idea of his rising empire adds a looming threat that hangs over the entire narrative.

At times the pacing dipped slightly in the middle while the group moved from place to place, but the tension and emotional stakes kept me invested, and the twists along the way definitely made up for it.

Overall, Curses is a strong sequel that deepens the world and raises the stakes for Hanna and everyone around her. If you enjoyed Changes, this continuation delivers more magic, danger, and emotional turmoil — and it leaves you wanting to see where Hanna’s story goes next

A huge great big MASSIVE thank you to Elizabeth Jeffrey and Wings & Words for not only the opportunity to get my hands on this before release, but for giving me the honour of a physical copy. It will stay with me always! 🫶🏼🥰

4.5⭐️ (rounding up for Goodreads)

I absolutely loved this second instalment in The Awakening series by Elizabeth Jeffrey. I flew through this book and finished it in about 7 hours because I genuinely could not put it down.

Elizabeth has such a talent for pulling readers straight into the story. The pacing, the tension and the emotional depth made this an incredibly addictive read, and I found myself completely immersed from start to finish.

That said, the frustrations I had with Hanna in book one are still there. She’s not quite an FMC I’m fully on board with yet. I do have to remind myself that she’s very young, and that might be part of why some of her choices frustrate me a little as a reader. That being said, her internal thoughts and emotional struggles felt very real, and the pain she experiences throughout the story is written so vividly that it’s impossible not to feel it.

And then there’s Rean… my baby. 🥺
Honestly, Ms. Jeffrey out here ripping hearts out for sport. I loved Rean so much and, in my opinion, he deserved far better than Hanna. I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say I am very curious about where things might go next… is the door still open? 🤔

This series continues to draw me in, and I’m already desperate for the next instalment.

Book three, Elizabeth — pen to paper please? 🙏🏼

What a book.
I couldn’t possibly rate it any lower.

I can’t go deep into the plot because I don’t want to enter spoiler territory but what I can say is this. We pick up directly after the events of Book 1.

SO If you loved book 1, i’m telling you right now you will DEVOUR book 2.

I feel like Elizabeth had no worries about putting you through emotional turmoil in this sequel.

I laughed, I was angry, and at one point I had to stop myself from crying because I genuinely think I had a moment of heartbreak.

I think this is a testament to Elizabeths writing because the pure hatrid I felt towards a particular character was next level too. I could almost feel ‘Psycho Josh’ coming out.

My eyes were GLUED to these pages.

This book was tension, this was love, this was trauma and this was all out war.

In Curses, not only did we have Lycans at play BUT we had other supernatural beings introduced to this book to play their role in the story and I really enjoyed it.

What I loved most was that we got to dig deeper into Hannah, Lucas and Reans characters AND it was eye opening to say the least.

What I didn’t expect was to leave Changes feeling one way about certain characters and then getting to the end of Curses feeling the polar opposite, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Well, that’s a lie. I’d change one little tiny thing.

If you like a thrilling plot.
If you like a paranormal romance.

Pick up this series.

And thank me later ❤️

Wow… I'm not really sure what to say other than thank you Elizabeth for such an amazing book! I’ll try my best and leave minimal spoilers.

I loved Changes and was highly anticipating this read and boy did it not disappoint. The twists and turns, the ups and downs were truly an emotional rollercoaster - I'm glad to have had some tissues on hand for the tears.

Trauma and grief aren't easy topics to cover, they aren't easy to get right either but I never felt invalidated in my own journey with this book. The character development and storyline are truly remarkable, as is the way Elizabeth continues to world and character build.

As someone who struggles with fantasy and such it comes as such a relief to be so easily submerged into this story and this world, there were very few things that left me confused and nothing a quick google search couldn't help me understand.

If you're a fan of Teen Wolf or similar TV shows this is definitely a series for you to read asap!

Elizabeth, you truly have done these characters such justice in the way you have written them and their stories. I can't wait to continue to follow your work and read whatever comes next. Thank you for once again allowing me the opportunity to have an ARC copy of this book and be a part of its journey.

Book 2 Curses by @Elizabeth Jeffery Author

We continue the story of Hanna and her werewolve shifter friends, and oh boy it did not give me a moment to breathe, so much going on.

There were moments that made me sit up and then relax. 1 moment in particular with Rean and then it happened again and i did NOT recover from that. Elizabeth Jeffery why would you do that to me!! You know exactly wat i mean!!!!!!

Hanna becomes a boss b*tch with her magic, but also i feel for her because she is not being giving a chance to even think and process without some thing it someone trying to take her out!

Rich, my man i hope you get your come uppence because i hate you so much!

Lucas, i just want to give him a hard shake and a smack, like i get it you literally cant say anything but you could have found a loop hole or something, because that cowbag Gabi B*tch!

Im pleased Hanna found out about her sister, and im curious as to what their story together will bring in the next book.

But that ending 😐 of course the author would tease me like that and leave it on that sentance . So im going to need book 3 right now please !

Do i recommend! YES ALL THE YES’s
Am i desperate for book 3? Yes i am

Curses picks up pretty much right after changes. With Lucas in some sort of sleep coma and Hanna who is with Rean going to find someone with answers on how to wake him from the spell.

From the start this book has some many different elements. Werewolves, vampires, witches and so much more. Even with all the different elements it all works together very well. The story itself is well written and interesting, the story holds up well and keeps you wanting to read more and more.

I liked the characters, you see characters from book one but also new characters who are coming into the story. Keeping you interested.

The one thing I struggled with it. And I think it’s mostly my own personal opinion and preference is the love triangle, I just wasn’t a big fan of it and didn’t really enjoy reading that. But I’m also aware that it gives the story more depth, especially between the characters and builds up a story for them.

But taking away from that I really did like this story, I liked the supernatural aspect of it. The twist and turns that took you by surprise which I loved, the ending had my jaw dropping and definitely will be keeping an eye out to see what comes next

✨ ARC Review – Curses (The Awakening Series #2) by Elizabeth Jeffrey ✨

I’m not too sure where to start with this… but wow. Elizabeth Jeffrey, you have well and truly torn my heart from my chest and danced all over it. And honestly? I loved every second of it. 💔

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Curses, the second book in The Awakening Series, and it absolutely delivered everything I hoped for after Changes. The emotional stakes are higher, the tension is stronger, and the story just pulls you deeper and deeper into this world.

This was a five-star read for me without hesitation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The characters continue to grow in ways that feel raw and real, and there were multiple moments that genuinely left me reeling. Just when you think you know where things are going, Elizabeth Jeffrey twists the knife a little more. It’s intense, emotional, and completely addictive.

If you loved Changes, you are not ready for what Curses is going to do to your heart.
Elizabeth Jeffrey… take a bow. 👏

First of all I want to thank the author, Elizabeth Jeffrey and Wings and Words, for allowing me the privilege of reviewing this as an ARC.

After reading changes (book 1) I couldn’t wait for this book. I fell in love with the characters especially Hannah and Lucas.

To begin with Curses covered a lot of missing background information for me and also introduced characters that had previously been touched upon.
The relationship between Hannah and Lucas had fractured and we finally met Taylor, Hannah’s long lost sister. As they all struggled working out where their relationships were heading and to work through their issues unbeknownst to them was a far greater threat. Rich!
Rich is trying to build an empire where he’s Alpha and he has the help of a couple more magical creatures (I’ll not spoil it and tell you about them). Hannah, Lucas and their friends have to stop them but at what cost?
This book ends on a ginormous cliff hanger (been advised book 3 is in progress) and leave you with all the emotions and tears.

If you haven’t yet read Changes then it’s a must and if you have then you need to run and get Curses upon release date.

You won’t be disappointed 😬
