In her early fifties, Harri Caldwell has always prided herself on being a strong, independent woman. Content with her single life, she loves her role as headmistress at the prestigious Lilian Cooper College for Young Ladies in Brisbane.

High profile barrister Charles Kaye has lived a charmed city life. With an amicable divorce behind him and three grown daughters, he is often featured in gossip columns alongside beautiful young women, a revolving cast his daughters nickname Charlie’s Angels.

When Charles and Harri meet at an art gallery opening, the instant connection is undeniable and, much to the chagrin of Charles’ daughters, a relationship quickly ensues. Their romance attracts media attention, not only because of Charles’ public profile but because Harri is so different from the women he is usually linked to. Older, private and firmly outside the socialite mould, she becomes an unexpected fascination for the press.

As the media attention and his daughters’ disapproval weigh on Harri, she begins to question whether their love can withstand the pressure. Will this prove to be the breaking point for their relationship or will Harri be Charlie’s last angel?

Charlie’s Last Angel
Harry is a very private person while Charles is a media target, which guarantees problems are sure to arise when the two unexpectedly fall in love. Add in family opposition and it begins to appear their love is doomed. However, true love is very resilient and will always strive to find a way. Charlie’s Last Angel being a romance, it’s not a spoiler to say it does, but the twists and turns of the plot ensure the reader is right there with Harry and Charles as, one by one, they confront and overcome the obstacles to find their happy ever after.
Charlie’s Last Angel, Maggie Christensen’s latest story, is a real treat for her readers. Although it is not part of a series, it still adheres to her familiar heart-warming genre of second chance, older aged romance. Harry and Charles are a delightful couple, and once you start reading this book you won’t want to put it down.
Thank you, Maggie Christensen for allowing me to read an advance copy.

This book has a slightly different slant to Maggie’s previous books but it tells the heartwarming story of Harri and Charles romance. A second marriage for Charles and first for Harri, after difficult situations that arose with family and which threatened their future together. I loved this story and know that it will appeal to many especially those who find themselves in a relationship which is similar to that of Harri and Charles.

Charlie's Last Angel is a story that will ring true with lots of couples finding love for the second time. It's not just about the two people involved in the relationship, especially if there are children from a previous relationship.

I had to dip in and out of this book as there were other calls on my time, but I found Charlie's Last Angel was easy to pick up and settle into again. The main characters, headteacher of The Lilian Cooper College for Young Ladies, Harri Caldwell and high-profile barrister Charles Kaye, are well-drawn and likeable, although at one point I did question whether Charles might be a little selfish or controlling.

The pair meet at an art gallery and after a whirlwind romance decide to marry. The main problem is that Harri has not met Charles' adult children and is concerned at their reaction to the news. There is also an ex-wife hovering with designs of her own on her ex-husband. With Charles' high public profile, the press are eager for photographs and stories, which doesn't sit well with Harri as she is a very private person. She also has the reputation of the school to consider.

The warmth of the writing and the relatable characters quickly drew me in and held my attention throughout. For me, Maggie Christensen's books are always enjoyable and comforting reads, and Charlie's Last Angel is a happy-ending story which left me feeling very satisfied indeed.

Charlie’s Last Angel by Maggie Christensen is a very charming contemporary novel that I adored and never wanted it to end.
The leading characters are not in their first flush of youth; they are in their fifties. It is refreshing to see that growing older does not mean growing staid. Both leading characters have much to offer, both in their jobs and in their private lives. They blend well together as they fall hopelessly in love.
The course of true love does not run smooth. Grown up daughters and an ex-wife feel that they know better than their father just what he needs. Only one of the three daughters recognizes that Charlie’s last angel is good for him.
We see the value of good friends to support and offer advice, but not to interfere.
Gossips and the paparazzi hi-jack private lives. It is best to get ahead and control the narrative.
Even in the twenty first century a character cares more for appearances than supporting her pregnant, unmarried daughter, leaving the role free for others to step in.
Forgiveness is a theme. It is needed for a character who nearly blew several lives apart with her selfishness.
I thoroughly enjoyed Charlie’s Last Angel. It is always good to have older characters as the focus. It is a most delightful tale.
I received a free copy from the author. A favorable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

I always enjoy Maggie's books and Charlie's Last Angel is no exception. Harri is the headmistress of an exclusive girls school in Brisbane and her work has been her life. Because of this she has never married. Charles Kaye is a well known barrister and lawyer who has been dating much younger women since his divorce many years ago. He has 3 adult daughters, one a lawyer, one a high-powered HR manager and one married with two children and expecting a third.
Stars align and Harri is swept of her feet by Charles who immediately falls in love and wants to marry her. This causes shockwaves with his family especially his eldest daughter who dreams of her parents getting back together again. This causes Harri to question her decision to marry and does not want to interfere with his family. What should she do?

This was a very easy book to read and Harri did frustrate me a little in parts but was a page turning novel and I enjoyed it! Thank you to Maggie for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I must admit her stand along novels are very good, not to take away from her series, but I am so far behind with them I fear I may never catch up!

Charlie's Last Angel is a delight , a second chance romance with a number of twists and turns similar to what can happen in any family, which make this a heart throbbing read
Maggie Christensen's lastest book is quite different to her earlier books set around smaller towns as it is set mainly in Brisbane , and I took a while to settle in to the storyline
Charles meets Harri at an art exhibition and they feel an instant connection although their lives are vastly different as she is the headmistress of a girls school and he is a well known lawyer . Charles has also been married and has 3 children while Harri has been content with her single life as a teacher .
The author has skillfully woven a number of issues into this book pertaining to family life in the modern world as well as developing interesting characters with vastly different personalities , which all add to the complexities of the storyline
Thoroughly recommend to anyone who enjoys a second time romance set in Australia
Thanks to the author for an early e-copy to read and review

Big thanks to Maggie for sending us a copy to read and review.
Older characters return in a stand alone story of second chance love and the excess baggage that comes with it.
Two strong and independent professionals want to take their relationship to the next level and enjoy a marriage.
Harri is a headmistress of an elite girls school and is dating a well known lawyer.
Charles Kaye is a quasi celebrity with the profile he has built in the legal world.
A father of three strong minded daughters that will test his patience.
The road to love is never easy and speed humps will make the trip an endurance.
I am use to reading books that belong in a series set in the same coastal town.
Often the familiar residents help build atmosphere and backstory.
In this instance it was family and friends that furnished the peripheral space and added layers to the dynamics and the emotional dramas.
I enjoyed meeting this couple and enjoying the challenges they had to overcome.

Thank you Maggie for an advanced reader copy of this book.

Harri is very settled in her life as headmistress of a prestigious girls school. She has never married as she never met the right man, so she put all her energy into her career. She attends a gallery opening with her good friend and meets Charles Kaye who is well known for dating young woman and is never out of the newspapers but there is a spark between them. What will happen? Will they overcome barriers that are in their way? Tensions rise when his grown children are introduced to Harri. Maggie has written another great story with some really strong characters.

Finding true love in the latter part of their lives is not an easy journey for headmistress of a private girls school, Harri, and barrister Charles, a media magnet. Carefully toss in his ex wife and grown daughters who put up many roadblocks along the way.

Unlike most of Maggie's books, the tension and self-doubt lasted longer than usual, but each of the characters is very relatable. True to her marvelous writing capabilities, her warmth and understanding, she pens a beautiful second chance romance for mature adults with a very satisfying happy ending for all readers to enjoy!
