Burnt Ashes #4

Mercy : Trey Baker

Rate this book
Trey

They thought killing me would end it. They were wrong.

They left me bleeding out in the dark, convinced death would free my wife for their taking. Convinced our marriage meant nothing, that she belonged to their faith and their leader.

Death did come. While I was meant to stay dead, they took her. That was their final mistake. Death didn’t keep me. There is no mercy for those who reach for what is mine.

Seraphina

Mercy was never something this world offered me—not when they took my husband, not when they left me to survive the wreckage of loving him.

Grief sharpened me, loss hollowed me out, and love became the only reason I kept breathing.

Now he’s back, scarred and dangerous, but seeing him alive fills the spaces I thought were lost forever. I should be afraid of what loving him costs. Instead, I choose him, and my faith does not doubt the righteousness in his heart.

A solid 4.75 stars (I'll explain below why it didn't get 5 stars like it should have)
What a fantastic part two to Trey and Seraphina's story, I wont say conclusion because there wasn't a solid conclusion, the story continues in Chases book I believe (not out yet) So don't expect everything to be wrapped up in this book, far from it!
Here's my thoughts...

What I liked...

* Trey...I said it in my review for book one, this man is something else...if you don't literally LOL then you are not human. His internal dialogue (that sometimes slips out without him realising) is just spot on...I could read Trey all day, every day!

* Seraphina...this abused and traumatised young woman, has grown into a a wonderful young woman, who is battling demons constantly, but is still kind, caring and growing in confidence. Love her!

* Trey and Sera...what a beautiful relationship they have...two beautifully damaged souls, trying to heal and find peace...their connection is heart-warming and pure.

* Sera/Trey/Mac...I love Sera and Macs relationship, Mac has really stepped up, giving Sera things Trey cant cant, like her first ever "girls night". Then there's Trey and Mac, their brother/sister/best friend dynamic is beautiful, the way Trey comforted Mac when he realised how much he worried her after his stabbing (chefs kiss).

* The whole band...these boys are something else when they are all together.

* The spice was good!

* Light mafia scenes and strong religious cult scenes.

* A few twists and turns.

* Treys dad Jonathon is a conundrum to say the least...and the last statement he made to Trey (about his mum) has be chomping at the bit for more details!

* A HFN...and a bubba on the way!

What I didn't like as much...

* Ok so this is what prevented the 5 stars...The main villain in this story is GIDEON CROSS...yes you read that right...NOW anyone who has been reading this genre for a while will know that GIDEON CROSS is the MMC of the CROSSFIRE SAGA and is also a part of the new CROSSROAD SAGA.
He is a very well established/well known/well loved character...I find it hard to believe the authors had never heard of him, its such a specific name and so well known. So I'm slightly suspicious as to why they used this name (when there's millions of name possibilities) I don't like this.

* Way too much internal dialogue...this could've be one amazing book, as the internal dialogue is over 50% in both books!

The next book is not out yet ahhhhhhhh!

What. Can. I. Say.
WOW.

Trey is a high energy, slightly unhinged, quirky rockstar who isn't afraid of sharing what is on his mind, even if he shouldn't 🤣 his dedication towards Sera is unmatchable. He will lay down his life for his woman, the only woman who has ever managed to calm his mind.

Sera, oh my god Sera. She captured my heart from the first moment she became a character in Muse. Seeing her grow and gain confidence throughout this book whilst still being delicate and vulnerable in moments is truly, truly special.

This book will have you laughing until you cry and sobbing until it makes you feel whole again. Seeing the journey these two go on, obviously with the rest of the crew nearby, was truly captivating. I couldn't put it down from the moment it hit my inbox.

This book is book 4 of the burnt ashes series and oh my it did not disappoint! I loved the unhinged commentary given by Trey. His inner arguments always make me smile. And seeing him vulnerable in a way I never expected really did take me on a journey with him.

The way Katie and Lee manage to build worlds, characters and stories is something that will keep me coming back for more. And whilst Trey is a bit of a... Different, character, this is what makes him so special and intriguing.

Yikes this was not it… I loved Muse, loved the storyline and the characters but Mercy just fell short. For starters, she’s not even going to question how Johnathan knows she’s pregnant? Second off, Trey just leaves his dad alive??? After all the trauma and grief that he has caused him his whole life and he’s just going to let him walk away? And not only that, but ends up teaming up with him at the end? Ooookkkkay… Especially after taking his wife?! And then Trey is literally just released from the hospital after being stabbed repeatedly and is just able to pick sera up and have s*x with her? Doesn’t make sense. And freaking Sera 🙄 I get the innocent act but she’s just stupid! Johnathan says she’s pregnant but she doesn’t even think about it, or consider he could be right until she passes out and the dr asks if she’s pregnant? The trigger warning was “Trey loses all control, he’s the ultimate gray mmc” and that was not delivered.
So many grammatical errors, parts where it was confusing to tell who was talking and who wasn’t. Honestly feels like it was written by chat gbt… wouldn’t recommend.

I loved heading back to the burnt ashes world! Mercy picks up literally right after Muse ends and all of the chaos that was happening from the ending of the last book. And you thrown straight into all of the drama and agony of what is happening with sera and Trey.

Like all K.E Taylor and Lee Taylor books in the series, this one was just as well written and gripping, love the breadcrumbs that they leave for the next book too, like you get a sense of what may be coming next.

As for mercy, I really love that the found family vibes between all of the characters are still in each book, they are their own family And always have each other back.

And the relationship between sera and Trey is amazing, it was sweet and it was passionate. They needed each other just as much as the other.

A great follow up, gripping plot line with amazing characters; looking forward the next book and whatever comes next for the characters.

Burnt Ashes Book 4

This book starts off exactly where book 3 ended, with a bang! And I couldn't put it down.

I have been craving having Trey and Sera back in my life ever since I finish Muse and man oh man this did not disappoint.
Trey and Sera are truly destined to be together after everything that they have been through together it's to no ones surprise when they do not want to leave each others side.

This book will take you on a rollercoaster ride you do not want to end the twists and turns throughout will hold you captive in the best way,
With this being book 4 in the series we do get to see all our favourite characters return as well as a closer look into what could be coming next!

I would highly recommend this book as well as the rest of the series, you will not want to put them down! For Fans of Rockstar Romances, Unhinged Hero, Marriage Of Convenience, Man Obsessed, Revenge and some delicious Spicy Goodness.
