This “book” is very good. They all have a lot of detail included in them. In the books the main characters are all teenage girls, all with a special power of some sort whether it is fire or strength, or even telekinesis. The girls are empowering in the way that girls do not need someone to save them, as they can save themselves if they are in danger. They all face a serious issue and solve it using their powers. The main idea of all of the books is that girls can stand up for themselves and they do not need a boy to protect them. All of these books are the first in each of their own series, and I would recommend them to anyone who likes thrilling books that have a meaning that is clear to see. I really liked this book of books because it was thrilling and the characters have adventures that are interesting and very detailed. Most of the books are not too long and you can finish them in a couple of days each, if you love to read like me. This book of books gave me a few connections to my life and to other books I have read. I connected with the characters believing they could do anything they set their mind to. A book that I connected to while reading this book is called The Wishing Pearl, which is also about a girl who believed in herself. This book made me think about “If I had the ability to acquire a special power, what do I think I would choose and why I would choose that one in particular.” I absolutely loved these books and got excited when we had time to read in class and when I finished all of my other homework, I would read for a half an hour to an hour straight. A very good book that I would recommend to pretty much anyone.
Xoe by Sara Roethle: 1 star. very teeny boppy story that spends too much time wandering about. I think the author should probably do a story map as there was a lot of fluff in each scene that slowed the story way down. I skipped pages. This appears to be and definitely read like it's the only book in this set that isn't published elsewhere.
Magic Unbound: 3 stars. Fun and interesting read. Full review on the associated book (i was interested enough to read the full thing.)
Avoidables: 1 star Somehow this story manages to both be cliche and confusing due to some serious plot holes. I read the first third and skimmed the next third and just did not care to find out what happened next.
The Blemished: 3 stars. Very much like the Uglies books, but not quite as polished feeling. It had a very good start and then fell more and more predictable and wrapped up with some very big against-the-character actions that are there only to further the plot.
Raven Steele: 3 stars. I'm not a huge steam punk fan but this was pretty good. I really enjoyed the concept of reapers and think I will search out the next in this series because I'm interested in the characters.
I enjoyed most of the books. Ok I forgot to check the list of books and had already read many of them, but they were good. One really held my interest, to the point I just though dinner together so I could get back to the story.
