Everett Rockford expects to enjoy a peaceful summer break while keeping an eye on his grandfather’s recovery from illness. A boathouse to himself, a return to his favorite childhood vacation spot, and a change of pace that might offer the opportunity to write that book he’s been meaning to draft? It’s a dream come true, until his grandfather’s own budding romance and an unexpected visitor toss those plans to the bottom of Lake Ontario.
Mia Blake has finally had enough from her interfering parents after she has to defend herself from the date they arranged. A trip out to visit her estranged grandfather is just what she needs, but sharing the boathouse with a stuffy English teacher—and learning about the Blake family history, from her own childhood back to Prohibition—ensures the summer takes a surprising turn.
As they join forces to unravel the secrets of a legendary treasure, Mia and Everett’s search captures the attention of those who will go to any length to find it for themselves.
And Mia’s legacy might just obliterate her newfound happiness.
Rachel Fitzjames is the author of a contemporary romantic suspense series set in the fictional town of Spruce Hill, NY. She started writing on her brother’s ancient computer back in the early 90s and never looked back, though her first short story about an underground cat thievery ring was sadly lost. With a degree in geography inspired by wanderlust, Rachel has a keen appreciation for the escape that the romance genre allows. She is a lifelong resident of Western NY and created Spruce Hill in order to give a little bit of home to all of her characters.
Treasured Legacy by Rachel Fitzjames is the story of Everett and Mia.
Both Everett and Mia are visiting with their respective grandfathers, David and Pops, for the summer. David and Pops are in a relationship with one another and are determined to set up Everett and Mia as well.
Adding to the romantic tension is the possibility of a secret long-lost treasure.
But Everett and Mia are not the only ones who are intrigued by the possibility of finding treasure, and this search quickly becomes perilous.
I thoroughly enjoyed Treasured Legacy. Although part of the Spruce Hill series, this book could definitely be read as a standalone title. The writing is well thought out, and the storyline was engaging from beginning to end.
I really enjoyed this book. It was so cute and it kept me guessing the whole time. I couldn’t put it down. The characters were people I would want to be friends with. It was so entertaining in all the right ways. Can’t wait to go back and read 1-6!!
Treasured Legacy offers the perfect bled of suspense and summer romance, making it a captivating addition to the Spruce Hill series. It is a story that beautifully balances the thrill of a historical mystery with the emotional depth of finding where you truyly belong.
In this installment, we follow Everett Rockford, a reserved English teacher seeking a quiet summer to write, and Mia Blake, who is fleeing her overbearing family. Their forced proximity in a shared boathouse on the shores of Lake Ontario sets the stage for an unexpected connection. As the dig into a long-buried family secret involving a Prohibition-era treasure, they find themselves pursued by dangerous individuals. It is a compelling narrative about uncovering the past while trying to build a future free from the weight of family expectations.
What I Loved - The Atmosphere and Setting: The lakeside setting is described so vividly that you can almost feel the summer breeze. It creates a cozy yet slightly tense enviroment that perfectly suits the romantic suspense genre. - Character Dynamics: The chemistry between Everett and Mia is wonderful. Their 'froced proximity' feels natural rather than contrived, and watching their walls come down while they solve the mystery is very satisfying. - Cameos and Connections: It was such a treat to see old friends from previous books again. Getting more insight into characters like David and Ian ('Pop') added a lovely layer of depth for long-time fans of the series. - The mystery Element: The historical treasure hunt adds a unique flair. It keeps the plot moving at a steady pace and provides a great balance to the romantic development.
Things for Consideration - Series Context: While the author writes this story as a story that can be be read on its own, you might miss out on some of the nuances and connections if you haven't read the earlier books. - Character Arc Depth: Some readers might find that Mia's journey toward independence from her family could have been explored even further to provide more emotional payoff.
Final Verdict and Recommendations I give this book a 4.5-star rating (rounded up to 5 for goodreads) for its engaging plot and heartwarming romance. If you have enjoyed Rachel Fitzjames's previous work or if you are a fan of small-town stories with a side of danger, this is a must-read for your summer list.
Disclosure I received an eARC of this book directly from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Another story in Spruce Hill and this one was a treasure hunt! This book was a lot of fun! Mia and Everett find themselves in tight quarters for the summer staying in their grandfathers’ boathouse. Mia needed an escape from her uptight dad and a bad blind date so she goes to spruce hill to spend the summer with her granddad, Pop. She wants to reconnect with this part of her family. Everett was asked to go stay with his granddad after a health scare. He’s instantly drawn to Mia. Their relationship goes from friendly to instant connection quickly! I loved how these two fell for each other. The treasure hunt was such a cool aspect to this story. I wanted to get to the bottom of the Blake family treasure. Of course, there was the suspense with the awful blind date and another town resident who also has ties to this treasure. Got a satisfying ending through all of it. Cannot wait for the next adventure in Spruce Hill!
This is one of my favorite Spruce Hill stories. Although this can be read as a standalone, I loved the connections and getting to see more of characters from previous book ‘Sinister Returns’. Everett and Mia were so sweet (and spicy) together and I loved how their relationship started then progressed. The treasure hunt aspect of the story was a lot of fun and of course the suspense and twists along the way kept me engaged the whole time. If you enjoy small town romance, rekindled family connections, and adventure reads- add this book to your list!
Everett returns to Spruce Hill for the summer to care for his grandfather as he recovers from an illness. Mia is also in town visiting her own grandfather, and that’s when she meets Everett. I absolutely loved the connection between them and the way their relationship developed. Them work together to uncover the mysteries of a legendary treasure added such an exciting layer to the story—and it definitely doesn’t come easy! Another fantastic read from Rachel Fitjames—I’m completely obsessed!
You can't go wrong with spending time in Spruce Hill, and when you add a treasure hunt on top of it? Absolutely! It was such a good blend of a sweet summer romance and suspense, and characters that you just want to stick in your pocket!
I love that this series is interconnected stand alones, and being able to see the other characters whose stories you already know is so nice! I already want to know what's going to happen next, and I'm so ready for that adventure!
What started as a story about a wealthy girl and a stuffy english teacher turned into something so much deeper. I loved how the author took seemingly static characters and peeled back the layers through their treasure-hunting journey. The chemistry between Mia and Everett is sparked by great banter and fueled by a heavy dose of small-town charm and family suspense. A great choice for anyone wanting a summer romance that is both relaxing and engaging.
First thing is I loved Mia’s best friend was named Dawn for obvious reasons. Dawn is such an uncommon name. Second thing is I absolutely loved the treasure hunt aspect of the plot. Mia and Everett are no Theo and Esther but their story is sweet and spicy. It was nice to get to visit Spruce Hill again. I missed it.

This was a great read. Loved the mystery, suspense, and treasure hunt. You have a blind date from hell, forced proximity, only one boathouse, a summer romance, match-making grandpas, family mystery.
I love Rachel’s Spruce Hill series. Her books are such great reads. A good mix of spice and plot.
While each book in the Spruce Hills series can be read as standalones, I highly recommend reading the entire series. Each book grows the town of Spruce Hills, welcoming you back with its familiarity, while introducing you to new parts of town. To me, the town is as much a character as the people. Rachel Fitzjames has expanded it again for us to enjoy in book 7, Treasured Legacy. Once again blending romance and suspense perfectly, I didn’t want to put this book down.
Everett and Mia both expected their summer to go much differently than it ends up being. Everett is excited to enjoy a lazy summer, writing his book, and caring for his recovering grandfather. Mia is looking for an escape from her parent’s constant interference and sets out to get to know her estranged grandpa. What neither expected is their grandpa’s playing match makers and finding themselves sharing a houseboat for the time being. The attraction is almost instant and they gravitate towards each other.
As Mia gets to know her grandpa more, she is able to learn so much about her family’s history. When a treasure hunt is talked about Everett and Mia decide to combine talents and see what they can find. From here their relationship is sweet, romantic, and heated. But the treasure hunt overturns more than just the possibility of riches. As family legacies become more and more clear, the newfound happiness both are feeling may come crashing down.
Rachel gives us a wonderful, fast paced story. Our MCs connection is felt throughout the book and despite the quickness in which it develops, it works. Side characters bring familiarity to the series, while also providing intrigue that I hope to see discussed in later books. The small town welcomes you without bias and wraps you in a warm embrace the more you get to know about it and its residents. Another wonderful book by Rachel that I highly recommend!
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🧡Summer Romance 🗺️Only One Boathouse 🧡Blind Date from Hell 🗺️Forced Proximity 🧡Treasure Hunt 🗺️Small Town Romance 🧡Match Maker Grandpas 🗺️Suspense Romance
Everett thought he was heading to Spruce Hills for the summer to help take care of his grandfather who was recovering from pneumonia. When he arrived, though, he was in for some surprises, including the fact he would have a roommate. Mia came to Spruce Hill to see her grandfather, and to escape her overbearing father and the man dear old dad set Mia up with who refuses to take "no" for an answer. While adjusting to being roommates, and dealing with a couple of match making grandfathers, they find themselves entranced in Mia's family legacy, hunting hidden treasure.
The story started quietly, following Everett and Mia as their unexpected relationship develops. Mia may appear to have a strong personality, but she uses it to hide the insecurities instilled in her by the father who never accepted her. Everett had some insecurities of his own, but he was able to push them aside to be a safe place for Mia. He sees beneath her veneer of confidence. While this isn't an action packed story, the intensity and the suspense comes from the search for the investigation of Mia's family history and search for the treasure.
Everett and Mia fit together perfectly. Their sometimes snarky, sometimes thoughtful and often witty dialogue kept the story moving. I also like the cameos of characters from previous stories. I'm always happy to return to Spruce Hills.
Thank you to the author for a copy of this story. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
I always enjoy Rachel’s books because the way she combines romance with mystery and suspense is so entertaining! First off, I loved that Mia and Everett’s grandfathers were in their own romantic relationship, how cute is that?? And that maybe they had something to do with Mia and Everett meeting! I do enjoy Spruce Hill, and so far all the characters I have read about in this series, are great. This community sounds amazing. It’s no wonder Mia and Everett were wondering if maybe they should live their forever. The family drama involved in the treasure hunt and the grandfather’s house was intriguing because I was thinking maybe the treasure was the house, but I wasn’t right. That’s another I like about Rachel’s writing is that the mystery goes on until the end and it is not predictable. Lastly, the chemistry between Mia and Everett was great. First, they were trying to make their living arrangement work and then they were trying not to flirt. But, being in the right place at the right time with a lake for skinny dipping and stargazing at night only meant one thing, there was no way love could not blossom. If you enjoy romance mixed with mystery and suspense you will enjoy this small town romance that can be read as a standalone.
I received this book as an ARC from the author which is why I can review it early lol.
Okay, this was a cute story.
While reading the others in the series before jumping in at number 7 would have been nice, this story was definitely able to be read as a stand alone book.
Tbh I was vaguely confused the first couple of chapters and didn't realize Everett was male, but once I connected the dots it was all good. The alternating points of view was an excellent narrative choice.
What I liked about this book: ●The mains were adorable ●There was no annoying af secondary character ●No third act break up ●No miscommunications! ●A happy ending for almost everyone
Things I didn't like: ●The book went too fast. The storyline galloped along and I finished reading the book in 2 hours. So much happened in such a short amount of time. ●The discussion on the MMC's sexuality seemed a bit shoehorned in. It was mentioned once or twice and then never again. ●There were cats mentioned but we only really met one!?!?!
Anyways, I have requested a copy of the first book through my library and am looking forward to diving into the world of Spruce Hill from the beginning.
I had the chance to read this book as an ARC Reader, and here are my thoughts on it. ☺️
This book is a charming, feel good romance that works beautifully as both a standalone and part of a larger series.
One of its biggest strengths is the treasure hunt element, which adds a layer of intrigue and adventure that keeps the story engaging from start to finish.
At the heart of the story are Mia and Everett, a wonderfully matched pair whose connection feels natural and deeply satisfying. ❤️
The supporting cast is equally delightful, especially the matchmaking grandpas, who bring humor and warmth to the story. Their meddling is endearing rather than overbearing, and they add a cozy, small town charm that enhances the overall atmosphere.
Overall, Treasure Legacy is a heartfelt story about love, self-discovery, and the courage to choose your own path. With its engaging treasure hunt, lovable characters, and cozy setting, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable read that leaves you smiling.
This book is full of adventure, romance, and mystery. It has so many plot twists, and new clues are always being added, so I was never bored! This book is deeply emotional and had me laughing, crying, worried, and even nostalgic. This book is written to touch your feelings. The spicy scenes even had me fangirling! I really felt like I connected with these characters and their families in a way I haven't before. The character development is quite subtle, but it is definitely there.
My only issue resides in how fast the main characters got attached to each other. It felt like they didn't get to know each other at all before attraction/romance began to bloom. Then again, I am partial to slow-burns, so that might be just me!
Overall, I am extremely excited for this book to be released. It is wonderful, and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. I received an ARC and all opinions are my own.
I want to preface this review by saying this book is the 7th book in the Spruce Hill series by this author but I read it as standalone and in my opinion that did not affect my experience of the story in anyway.
The MMC, Everett Rockford is the book boyfriend in a cardigan instead of a suit that I need to see more of in romance books. He is not just the "I will burn down the whole world if anyone touches her" kind of guy, he is the "Is she safe" and "How can I regulate myself and emotions so she can have a safe and anxious free place to come home to." kind of man. Self aware and ready to give Amelia the world. That love? That is something I can stand behind. I loved that. Amelia being a darling, Pops being the spitflame this family needed and Granddad just being his lovely matchmaking self with Pops. And did I mention that there is a treasure hunt on the loose?
If you are looking for a good Romantic suspense with adventure this book is for you.
Rachel didn’t disappoint me with this one. I didn’t expect to like it this much, but here I am, enjoying the book more than I thought I would.
At first, I was skeptical because I sensed the instant-love trope almost immediately. But boy, oh boy ... Both Everett and Mia captured my heart throughout the series. They’re both so lovable. I love their chemistry so much. But most importantly, Mia’s family is the cherry on top for me. It melts my heart every time I see them filling Mia’s heart and helping her find her true home, where she belongs and is loved.
One thing I’d like to critique is the suspense. I wish we had gotten more of it, rather than having it squeezed into the second half of the story. That said, I really enjoyed the treasure-hunting aspect. Everett being a nerd was my favorite part.
In the end, I was very satisfied. Especially with that twist. Great job, Rachel! <3
This was my favorite book of the Spruce Hill series. You couldn't have a more adorable set-up. David and Ian are in their eighties and living at a historical lake house on Lake Ontario. They invite David's grandson Everett and Ian's granddaughter Mia to visit for the summer. David and Ian are absolutely precious with very "Doc & Grandpa" vibes (WILDE LOVE by Lucy Lennox). I would love to read a story dedicated to them!
Mia and Everett are also wonderful people too. Of course they are, they're David and Ian's grandkids. Green flags abound! They attempt to solve a 100 year old mystery that took place on the property. However, the kindness skipped a generation as Mia's dealing with some real jerks in her family. Also there are several notable cats as pets! Another great addition to the series!
Thank you to the author for the copy of this book. Opinions are my own.
Beautifully written, this story was enthralling right from the start. Mia comes to Spruce Hill to find her grandfather and just get away was expectations. Meeting Everett brings out the best in her, especially as they go on a little bit of a treasure hunt. It was suspenseful and full of intensity which I really found entertaining. I could not put this one down as the chemistry between Everett and Mia only added to an otherwise engaging plot.
4⭐2.5🌶️ Everett and Mia I love seeing past characters show up, would love if they were a little more connected. Granddad and pops! 💕 Do happy to have them in another book! A really cool part of the town's history, and a good mystery. Love both MCs.
"As if he hadn't already flustered me into a whirlwind of emotions and hormones-Everett smiled, leaned back in his chair, and uttered the sexiest words I'd ever heard from a man.
It was great to see Pop and David again from the previous story and learn more about their love story. It seems the people of Spruce Hills love to set up unsuspecting people coming to the area, and I'm here for their sneaky match-making ways. Mia and Everett were adorable and as always, I enjoyed the bit of suspense thrown in with the treasure hunt, others after the treasure, and endangerment of Mia's life with a HEA ending.
I love Everett and Mia they are a great couple, this was my favourite in the series so far, plus Dave and Pops oh my goodness I loved these two. This would be a great summer read but the whole series is a must read.
This was such a fun close proximity treasure hunt. I loved the characters especially Pops. It had a riveting plot and it will keep you reading eagerly to find the next clue.
I really really enjoyed this book. The treasure hunt was soo good. I loved the grandpa's like those two can have have a book of their own. Mia and Everett were literally meant to be kinda, and they were.. This book gave made me realize that treasure is not always a chest of gold and I'll forever be grateful for that. 💖
