DCI Karen Heath is counting down the days to her wedding when a new national security operation thrusts her into the crosshairs of the government elite. Invited to a high-level summit at a secluded country estate, she quickly realises the event isn’t about diplomacy — it’s about control.
As old enemies resurface and loyalties blur, Karen finds herself fighting not just for justice, but for the truth itself. Every step drags her deeper into a world where secrets are currency, silence is enforced, and betrayal comes with consequences.
When the first explosion rocks the building, one thing becomes chillingly this time, the danger isn’t out on the streets — it’s inside the walls of power.
In a battle that will test her to breaking point, Karen must decide what price she’s willing to pay to uncover the truth… before the system she’s sworn to uphold destroys her from within.
Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, and Lynda La Plante—a gripping UK police procedural.

Crime Never Pays… Well yes and no depending on what side of the fence you’re on!
I’ve always had a strong passion for whodunnits, crime series, and books. The more I immersed myself in it, the stronger the fascination grew.
In my spare time, you’ll find me in the gym, reading, binge watching Netflix or taking walks in the forest.
Oh, and I’m an avid people watcher, I just love to watch people, their mannerisms, and their way of expressing their thoughts… weird I know, but I could spend hours doing that. It's funny, because watching people often gives me insights and inspiration for describing human interaction in my books.
Fun fact: My favourite, bestest place ever on earth? Any of the Florida theme parks and the mad coasters out there. Add the food, shopping and weather, and you've got the best place on earth... especially when I see the joy on the faces of my family when we're out there :)
Weird fact: Spending an afternoon in a mortuary to bring my books to life. Oops! poor choice of words there :)
This was an absolute cracker from the first page! Karen has been getting steadily closer to the top of the very secret, very powerful and dangerous organisation during the last couple of books. Now it would appear that she may be closing in on the elusive leader of the organisation - and this may well be someone very much in the public eye. Some very sensitive toes could be trodden on; and this could have very far reaching consequences not only for Karen and her team, but conceivably for the whole country. This may be fiction (and beautifully conceived and written fiction at that!), but, for me, it really resonates in the way that it may well be feasible. I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I did!
Jay Nadal The Price of Silence This has got to be the best DCI Karen Heath book so far. It is a rollercoaster of a ride with story lines going all over the place. It takes you down roads that are dead ends it leads you to think all is going to go wrong and leave Karen to die but then the end is well you will have to read the book to find out but have a tissue ready you may well need it. I have read this book as an ARC and leave this review freely.
Wow DI Karen Heath, you get yourself into some scrapes!! This book was a sort of culmination of previous events over time. It was not your normal murder investigation as such. The book was well written, well thought out, and so easy to read. It was captivating. I actually felt like I was there. (No spoilers from me) Fans of Jay Nadal will understand. Looking forward to book 18. Please???
Jay Nadal never fails to deliver and he certainly did not in this novel. Wow, at long last we get to the finale with The Covenant and get to the top. Over the past few books we have had a roller coaster of a ride but nothing to what we get now. With the help of Jade and Ed the battle is won and all this suspense and action is before a wedding. Incredibly crafted story which leaves you wanting more.
