Throughout the book I kept feeling so much anxiety waiting for the shoe to drop! It’s what kept me so engaged- needing to understand what was happening! I loved it so much, the humor, the banter and the forbidden love!

Six freaking star read. I’m still trying to come back to my body after this otherworldly experience. I feel a knot in my stomach and a hollow in my chest, somehow mourning a place and characters that I’ve only met in this book. I have a million questions and a need for 1000 more pages.

I’m going to be completely honest. I almost quit reading this book several times. I had to force myself to read it somedays. I kept pushing because I’m reading it for book club. I’m glad I pushed, because now I want to read the second book! 😂 the last 20% had me 👀👀

This is going to be one of those books that blows up because of social media. It is a low/no spice, but high tension romantasy about an “operative” who wakes up in another person’s body on a secret mission. It is a rollercoaster ride where you’ll be screaming why is this a big deal?! during conflicts but also know there is a ton at play that we just don’t understand. anyhoo… READ IT!
The first half of the book… 4 stars.
The next 25%…. 5 stars.
The last 25%…. 6 stars. and wtf was that ending??!
First can we just appreciate the writing? 👏👏👏
Second the creativity of the world?! At first, I’m like wow this is weird but what if…? it’s so unique and not like every other romantasy out there.
Third, the side characters!!! I’d argue they’re more intriguing than the main characters. You definitely get Rhysand, inner circle vibes. And also if you love Septimus from Serpent and the Wings of Night, you’re going to ADORE Lukas.

The Bones of Another is a debut novel by Amala Narayan and I cannot believe this was her first novel!! The story was engaging from page one. Not a cut and paste of every other romantacy book. Likable characters that grow throughout the book. Twists I did not see coming. Banter, tension and a swoon worthy MMC and swoon worthy and likable male side characters. I loved everything about this book and cannot wait for book 2!

I really enjoyed this one overall! The world felt unique, and I especially loved the concept of the FMC experiencing the world through her echoform’s body. It gave the story such an interesting perspective and made the reading experience feel different from a lot of fantasy/sci-fi I’ve picked up lately.
This is definitely a slow burn, but that worked for me. I liked getting to settle into the world and characters over time. There were a few lulls in pacing throughout the book, but not enough to take away from my enjoyment.
You can really see the creativity and potential in this story, and I’m very excited to continue the series and see where everything goes next!

The author reached out to our Book Club and asked us if we would like to read her book- so glad she did! One of my favorite reads this year. We have a Q&A scheduled with her this Saturday! Patiently waiting for book 2 release date!

This book was a breath of fresh air. I loved the premise of this book. It was something new that I don’t feel had been done before. I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Such a great debut novel, highly recommend.

Wow doesn't begin to describe how much I loved this book.
If you didn't know Ms. Narayan was a first time author, you wouldn't know by reading The Bones of Another.
While I am very upset that it is over, I am thankful she has announced the next book is coming this year!
It isn't weighed down by over the top world building, (a huge pet peeve of mine) the writing puts you directly in the room with the characters as if you've known them your entire life.

Bones of Another completely blew me away. From the very first page, I knew this wasn’t going to be another formulaic fantasy—and it absolutely delivered. In a genre that’s becoming increasingly filled with the same recycled tropes and predictable story beats, this book felt fresh, original, and unforgettable.
The world-building, characters, and storytelling all came together beautifully. Every chapter pulled me in deeper, and I found myself thinking about the story long after I put the book down. It struck the perfect balance between emotional depth, intrigue, and immersive fantasy without ever feeling like it was following a template.
This is, without question, my favorite book I’ve read in 2026 so far. If you’re looking for a fantasy that dares to do something different while still delivering an incredible reading experience, Bones of Another is an absolute must-read. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Wow 😱 I loved this book so much! One of my friends said this book is a breath of fresh air and I couldn’t agree more. It was unique, engaging and so much fun. I was hooked the entire time!

This was such a beautifully written slow burn fantasy filled with court intrigue, political drama, realm travel, hidden identities, and just the right amount of romance.
The story follows a resistance general who infiltrates a hostile realm by impersonating Princess Mia, her “echo form” in another realm. I thought the echo form concept was so unique and fascinating. Each person has a lookalike in the other realm, and the body-swapping element is what allows them to step into their echo form’s life. It made the world feel fresh, layered, and so different from anything I’ve read recently.
Her mission is to find the echo form of The Hollow King from her realm. In the Peninsula, The Hollow King’s echo form is the father of the prince she is betrothed to, which she knows going in, but that doesn’t make the mission any less dangerous. No one has ever seen The Hollow King’s true face because he uses magic to hide it, adding such an intriguing layer of mystery and tension to the story.
Amala Narayan built such an immersive world, and the magic system was one of my favorite parts. In the Peninsula, which is the other realm, the people obtain their magic from celestial essence known as Aether. That detail gave the story such a beautiful, otherworldly feeling, and I loved how unique and carefully crafted the magic system felt. I also really enjoyed the political tension and the way the main character had to navigate a court full of suspicion while trying to live up to the princess’s past.
The banter between the FMC and the prince was so good, and I loved watching their storyline slowly unfold. The romance is definitely subtle and slow burn, but it worked so well with the overall tone of the book. I also really loved the side characters. A strong cast can add so much to a fantasy, and this book definitely delivered on that.
The only reason this wasn’t a full five stars for me was the pacing. It was a little slower in places, but the world, characters, and unique concept more than made up for it. And that plot twist? I truly did not see it coming. It added such a good layer of shock and made me even more excited to see where the series goes next.

Okay, so before I get into my review of delightful escape of reality :) I ran into this author on tt and she was on my fyp. And I wrote to her and saw that there was arc ebooks and I got accepted, I know she was looking for feedback as you read, but girl I ate this story up. The mfc - main female character I felt she was so relatable in so many ways. The male main character had so much playful banter.
I wasn’t familiar with fantasy politics, and world building I struggled with other books in this genre, but this author made the story line and plot as easy and lovable but also very manageable to read.
This is 5✨read for me.
The banter was a delightful treat.
World building was easy to follow along, this story had a plot that kept me hooked.
A page turner fast paced.

This book had me right from the beginning- and it only got better. Had to force myself to put it down! The author did an amazing job of telling this story, I didn’t just love the characters, she had me thinking about them and what was happening with them when I wasn’t reading!
Amala Narayan has me hooked now and I look very forward to reading anything and everything she writes!!

July Book Club Read 📚
Absolute banger. Gimme book 2 rn.
Though the beginning was a little confusing, I liked that we had to unfold the mystery with the operative. The pacing was also a little slow in the beginning, but I still found the story easy to read with the author's prose. I love the way she incorporates all of the senses when describing a scene. She knows how to build tension and emotion. And trust me, my emotions were getting to me. The story is creative and a breath of fresh air in the fantasy romance space. The yearning towards the end had me SWEATING.
Also, how dare you end the book like that. That cliffhanger was a DOOZY.

This book absolutely consumed me.
The Bones of Another gives us two realms where every person has an echo form living another life on the opposite side. And when an operative from a resistance movement is transferred into the body of a princess consort presumed mute after an accident, things become emotionally catastrophic very quickly.
Because now she’s living someone else’s life. Loving someone else’s people. And slowly falling for a prince who believes she is the woman he was supposed to marry.
The emotional conflict in this story was INCREDIBLE. The FMC is constantly torn between duty and desire, between who she is and who everyone believes her to be. And the more she uncovers about her mission, the more she realizes she was never told the full truth.
And don’t even get me started on the reveal.
Watching Prince Zarek and his inner circle realize that “Mia” was never truly Mia absolutely wrecked me. The grief, betrayal, confusion, and love tangled together in that moment was written SO well.
But what really made this stand out was the aching question underneath the entire story:

I absolutely flew through this book and will definitely be picking up the second one! The story was incredibly compelling, and I found myself constantly wanting to know what happened next. It’s such an engaging premise, and the pacing made it hard to put down.
The only reason this wasn’t quite a five-star read for me is that there were moments when I found myself wanting a little more grounding in the world and its rules so I could fully absorb everything that was unfolding.
The major reveal at the end was bold and exciting, but I also found myself thinking, “Wait — I’m not ready for that yet!” I still had so many lingering questions. That may very well be intentional and part of the larger arc of the series, but it left me feeling both shocked and eager for more clarity moving forward.
Overall, it was a gripping and ambitious story that I truly enjoyed, and I’m excited to see where the next book takes these characters and this world.

*Just to premise, the author reached out to someone in our book club & said she would do a Q&A meeting if we read & purchased her book. I had not heard of the book prior to this.*
Overall, this book had a very unique magic system, world building, & plot. I was definitely intrigued with the beginning and liked how the reader is kept in the dark about what is going on for the first small chunk to add mystery.
Once everything is explained, it did get a little repetitive & slow. There was a LOT of fluff in the middle 50% of the book. It didn’t really feel like things were moving forward & it was a lot of the same scenes over and over or drawn out scenes. The style of writing is also very very repetitive.
The ending however picked up quite a bit & left at a great cliffhanger! I definitely will want to read book 2.
One plot hole that did throw me off was how the operative is very caught off guard with the echoform of her dead lover, but then it’s like she wakes up the next day and completely forgets it. It’s not mentioned at all again. Another is how the chemistry between Zarek & the operative is mid- it wasn’t even really there until the very very end.

One of my favorite things about this story was how the title threaded through the emotional core of the story.
“She had made the choice. All of it. And if this was the cost—if it hollowed her out, stripped her down, left nothing behind to send home—then so be it. She would let it hurt. She would let it destroy her. Even in a world that was not hers. Even in skin she did not recognize. Even in the bones of another.”
That line captures exactly why this book worked for me. The body swap premise is not treated like a gimmick. It becomes part of the emotional and political cost of the story. She is carrying so much inside of her loyalty to her realm, grief, deception, desire, and an identity inside a body that is not even her own, and that creates immense tension.
What I loved most was that the story respected consequences. The romance never magically erased the political stakes. Every choice cost something.
Because the prince is observant from the beginning, the tension comes less from “will they fall for each other?” and more from “what happens when the truth finally breaks open?”
It also avoided so many romantasy trends that have started feeling repetitive. No endlessly possessive MMC constantly growling “mine.” No shallow enemies to lovers dynamic where hatred is confused for chemistry. Instead, this felt like two intelligent people trying very hard not to care about each other for different reasons in a sea of confusion while repeatedly choosing each other in moments of crisis.
And honestly, the ending nailed exactly what I want from a first book in a series. Satisfying and resolved enough to feel complete, while still leaving me desperate to know what comes next.

I don’t even know how to rate this book properly because five stars is enough. This was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me.
At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. It took me a little while to settle into the story, and I honestly didn’t expect it to consume me the way it did. But somewhere along the way, this book completely sank its claws into me and never let go. By the end, I was obsessed, like want to read it again obsessed.
The writing, the plot twists, the emotional weight of the story, just kept building until I was thinking about this book nonstop. This book had me in an absolute chokehold. The tropes in this were 👌, and executed so well. If you love slow burn tension, emotional angst, found family, morally gray characters, and the kind of romance that completely wrecks you in the best way, this book delivers all of it.
If you’re hesitant in the beginning, keep going. Trust me. It is so worth it.

The beginning does leave you a little confused about what’s going on, but in a good way. It’s very mystery-driven, and I spent several chapters trying to piece everything together before finally getting the answers I’d been waiting for.
I buddy read this one with a few friends and completely failed at sticking to the schedule because I just had to know what happened next. I even stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish it.
Fair warning: it ends on a cliffhanger. Thankfully, the next book comes out in July because I need answers. If you enjoy fantasy with mystery, great character dynamics, and a romance that keeps you invested, I’d definitely recommend picking this one up.

I unfortunately had to DNF this one. I’ve been reading for almost 3 weeks and I’m only halfway through. Maybe I will change my mind but I just really struggled to get into this book. I felt like it was hard to connect with the characters when I didn’t even know the FMCs first name. The MMC was so hot and cold I could never get a read on him.
I think one of the things that was most frustrating was that there was no map. I was so lost trying to figure out where I was in this world. Some times the Keep felt like a town of its own or a city and then others it felt like a castle of sorts.
The magic was another really confusing part of this. It was not explained well at all and it was being used but I don’t know the difference between all of them.
There were times that I felt like we went into major detail and then others where we just skimmed over items.

The writing is so beautiful and the descriptions of the world and people were done in a way that made me feel truly immersed in their world or should I say realm 😉. This book made me feel things I haven’t felt while reading a book in SUCH a long time. Every emotion the main character experienced, it felt like I was in her “echoform” experiencing it too. After reading so many romantasy books lately this felt fresh and new. This author is so clever, so brilliant, and should be so proud of this piece of work. I will not be able to stop thinking about this book for a long time and cannot wait to begin the second one as soon as it comes out. Read it!

This is typically not a book I would have picked. One reason I joined a book club to step out of my comfort zone. I really enjoyed Bones of Another. It did take me until about Chapter 13 to fully understand what the Operative was and to piece together what was happening in the story, but once everything clicked, I was hooked.
The author did an amazing job creating a unique world and characters that kept me wanting to know more. I also appreciate how down-to-earth the author is, which makes the reading experience even more enjoyable.
I’m excited to see where the story goes next and can’t wait to read Book Two!

This book has been my favorite to read all year. Amala's story truly sucked me completely in and has me in high anticipation for book 2. The concept of the world's and the characters are so impressive and easy to become enamored by. For me I don't have a favorite character because I love them all. I think almost everyone would desire to have the companionship the Razani has with one another. I could rave about this book for hours and discuss theories I have in mind about what is to come and why things are they way they are in the book. I hope this book reaches the masses because it belongs with the greats.

More like a 4.5 ✨️!! At first the book was a little hard to get into. It took about a full 13 chapters for me to be like ok....i don't want to put this down! I liked it... it was just a lot of info, character building and them BAM....I was so into it! I wanted more and more! There were so many times I was feeling all the things (love, anxiety, confusion, heartbreak, happiness... on and on. all the things I tell you!) And can we talk about the last few sentences in chapter 45 ooooooh weeeee! 😍😍Quite literally gave me chills! And then there was the ending😱 we can't forget about the ending..... I cannot wait for book number 2 to come out!

Okay... so this book did not need to go that hard. THE ENDING! WHAT DO YOU MEAN!!!!!
I was lucky enough to have the author reach out to me about her book and I am soooooo glad she did. I am hooked.
I will say there are some slow parts to this story closer to the beginning but just know that it's intentional, your supposed to feel that way but once the drop happens, holy moly Donut shop, you better hold on for dear life! I read the second half of this book in less than 24 hours.
The range of emotions the MMC cycles through in this story is a perfect example of how love (both romantic and platonic) changes how we see the world and how we start to become more comfortable in our own skin..... or in the bones of another
1000% will be reading the next one and recommending this book to everyone!

This book was excellent. I read it with 3 other ladies and THEY all thought it was excellent. The 2nd book is coming out at the end of July, 2026 and I cannot wait. I don't even want to say much about the book except that it is so very good and the ending had my jaw absolutely on the floor. Amala is a debut novelist who reads like a seasoned, well established author and I'm SO EXCITED to see where the future and this book takes her. I don't want to spoil anything, but just trust me and read it. You will NOT be disappointed.
