Strange winds are blowing in Tropical Breeze, Florida. When Vesta Cadbury Huntington, one of its oldest, wealthiest and most eccentric citizens, dies in her sleep, nobody is surprised except for Vesta herself. It wasn't her time, and she didn't appreciate being bumped off into the Land of the Dead prematurely. The granddaughter of an archaeologist, she calls upon an Egyptian goddess for help. Bastet, the protective cat goddess, responds, and Taylor Verone, Tropical Breeze's modern-day cat rescuer, is going to help - whether she wants to or not.
A lovely cozy mystery set in a small town in Florida that includes an animal rescue shelter, likable characters, murder, just a touch of paranormal and few twists that kept me guessing until the reveal.
I really enjoyed this story. It was interesting from the beginning and they story stayed consistent throughout. I usually have a hard time with the first in a new series, but this was a surprising treat. Taylor has a love for animals and spends her time between the animal shelter and her thrift shop, Girlfriends, which helps fund the shelter. Upon the death of a long time Tropical Breeze resident, things take a turn for the worse. Mysterious cats, cat fights and so much more intertwine in this story. Not very often do I feel the need to reach into a book and slap a character, but I believe Tina deserved a slap and much more! Don't miss the chance to find out what happens!
This was good, if a little strange. The protagonist is a woman who has made it her life mission to rescue unwanted animals and to that end has her own rescue shelter in a small town in Florida. One of her local supporters, an elderly woman, dies in her sleep and the fun begins. The Egyptian Goddess, Bastet shows up as a cat to "help" the protagonist to solve the crime - the old lady was really murdered, and what ensues is a crazy story of cats and seeing things and of course, murder and mayhem.
When Taylor Verone, who owns a pet shelter, is called upon in the early morning hours to help rescue a litter of kittens, she's there in an instant. But what she doesn't expect is to see a strange black cat with eyes as green as her own, watching her -- nor her elderly friend Vesta, who is guiding her toward the kittens.
When she learns that Vesta passed in the night, she's stunned. But then the black cat attaches itself to her, and tells her that she is Bastet, the Egyptian goddess, and has failed in her task to protect Vesta -- who was murdered. Now she plans to use Taylor as her means of revenge in order to find a killer. Taylor soon learns that she has no choice but to help, but doesn't even know what Bastet -- renamed Basket -- wants her to do. When she discovers another body, things start to come together -- but will it be in time to save another elderly friend from being jailed?...
This is the first book in the series, and there are times I prefer to read older books, since they focus mainly on the plot and nothing else, if you get my drift. I found this book to be interesting in the fact that I have not read another author who used Egyptian goddesses as protagonists -- especially through the eyes of a human. It was extremely interesting, and fun to read.
I found the plot very well done, and there was plenty goings-on throughout; and not all centered through the murder, either; but nothing took away from the murder mystery itself, instead drawing things more toward it, which is how it should be. I did enjoy Taylor's character, and even some of the secondary ones, although I would have liked to have known more about the surroundings besides being in Florida. A little more about the town itself?
The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was the ending. I did like how Taylor put everything together, and it was worth reading to get to that point; and I also enjoyed how the resolution came leaving us to look forward to something else; but I loved Basket most. At any rate, I will read the next in the series just to see if I am going to stay with this series or move onto another. Recommended.
When Taylor sees Vesta in the warehouse she doesn't know everything in her life is about to change. Vesta needs Taylor's help and she is sending the cat Bastat to help her find the truth. You will suspect so many different people, I admit I was happy to see who was the guilty party. This was a cute mystery and I thought it was well written. I enjoyed this book and plan to read the other Tropical Breeze Cozy Mysteries.
I really enjoyed this book. The setting caught my eye, Tropical Breeze, Florida and then the fact that it had animals. I couldn't put it down once I started reading. I loved the paranormal aspect of the story. It kept me guessing until the very end as to whom had killed one of the town residents and then killed again. I enjoyed the characters and Girlfriends, the resale shop for the animal shelter. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
A small town, a rich family and an elderly woman found dead.. An amazing situation occurs and the heroine, founder of the town's animal shelter, becomes involved as she is revealed the fact that the elderly woman didn't die a natural death, but instead was murdered. Read and find out who told her!! The story is well written and flows smoothly as we meet the possible suspects, those likely and those unlikely. A number of twists in the plot make it a good read.,
Taylor is called out of bed in the middle of the night to rescue a litter of motherless kittens. She is surprised to see her elderly friend, Vesta Huntington there. Taylor is even more surprised to learn that Vesta had passed away hours earlier. Vesta appears to her again, insisting that she was murdered and asking Taylor to find the culprit. Vesta had called upon Egyptian goddess Bastet, and when Taylor dons a necklace with a feline pendant that belonged to Vesta, the goddess comes to her in the form of a black cat.
There are no shortage of suspects, and it's up to Taylor to figure out who may have killed Vesta, and how. Everyone in Tropical Breeze has a theory, including Vesta's attorney, whom Taylor is kinda/sorta dating.
Hm. I liked the paranormal elements. I liked that an animal shelter was featured. I liked that our main character was a mature woman. Other parts were somewhat blah. Taylor would become subsumed by Bastet and not even know what she was doing. That was a bit off-putting. Characters were solid, even the annoying ones, and the plot was at least cohesive.
An okay story, neither great nor terrible--average rating.

Interesting but odd story. The story is about a woman running a pet rescue and an older woman she knows allegedly dies of natural causes. Her spirit comes to her telling her is was murder and to help save someone else.
It gets odd when a cat shows up and is an Egyptian goddess in disguise. The only thing that ties these together is the elderly woman’s obsession with Egyptian artifacts.
The story has twists and turns and a couple of different stories going on. Not a bad first in the series. Has a few uneven moments and unnecessary characters, but I like that the main characters for the most part are mature and not prone to being brainless and making stupid decisions.
Set in a small Florida coastal town, this first book in the Tropical Breeze cozy series is well written with interesting characters, a bit of the supernatural, and a cat I'd adopt in a minute (if she'd ever let it happen). I'm anxiously looking forward to more in this series.
I love a story where everything comes together in the end. Taylor never expected to be caught up trying to so!be two murders. All she wanted to do was care for the abandoned cats and dogs in Tropical Breeze. Yet somehow with the help of an ancient goddess, she wax able to solve two mysteries.
I found this book while I was searching for new mystery books to read on Kindle Unlimited. I thought the story was extremely slow-paced and boring most of the time. I wasn't really interested in understanding the mystery and the sort of mystical side of the book didn't really appeal to me.
Terrific start to a new series. Who is responsible for the death? Loved the characters and the storyline gripped you from the start. The answer wasn't what I expected either. All in all a great book and highly recommended
This story has all the elements a good cozy, with a love interest and animals. But it takes it to a higher level with a great plot, deep characters and more. It won’t take long with this book to you hooked.
Good start to a new series. Enjoyed getting to “know” the residents of the town and their interaction with each other. Especially like the animal involvement. Look forward to the next book in this series.
A fun entertaining read. This story combines a lot of things - murder, family disputes, mysterious ties to ancient Egypt and a quite interesting cat that arrives on the scene. A story full of colorful and interesting characters.
Taylor just wants to take care of her animal rescue business but the Egyptian goddess Bestet has different plans for her. A fun read with just the right amount of humor.
