MasterMind absolutely delivered for me. After Never Far and Mad Girl gave Boston and Anna their own foundation stories, this is the book where everything finally starts connecting the way I was waiting for.
The story was paced perfectly. It was driven by both plot and characters, which is exactly what I wanted. There was tension, chaos, dark moments, and enough going on to keep the story moving without making the character dynamics feel pushed to the side.
I loved seeing Anna and Boston’s worlds come together. Their connection has that dark, unhinged energy Alaska Angelini does so well, still tied to who they are as characters and what came before. It was the payoff from the first two books.
The full cast narration was absolutely spectacular. Every narrator brought something different to the story, and the performances carried the tension, intensity, and character dynamics so well. With a series like this, the audio matters a lot, and this cast knew exactly what they were doing and they definitely delivered.
Overall, this was great. Book three did such a great job connecting Anna and Boston, and now I cannot wait to see where the series goes from here.
I’d recommend it to listeners who enjoy dark psychological romance, morally messy characters, full cast narration, plot-driven chaos, strong character dynamics, and a series that actually knows how to build up to satisfy payoff.

I had been anticipating this audiobook for what felt like forever, and the second it hit my inbox from Dark Star Romance, I dropped everything and started listening. Thankfully, it delivered on every expectation I had and then some.
While MasterMind can technically be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the previous books first. The emotional impact of Anna and Boston’s journey hits so much harder when you’ve experienced everything that led them here.
This book is absolute chaos in the best possible way. There is so much happening that I honestly spent most of the audiobook trying to piece everything together while simultaneously wondering what twist was about to hit me next. Because this story is packed with spoilers waiting to happen, I can’t say much about the plot itself, but what I can say is that watching Anna and Boston’s stories finally collide was everything I hoped it would be.
The full-cast duet narration was phenomenal. Branden Davis-Butler, Sean Masters, Kasi Hallowell, and Daniel Lewis completely immersed me in the story and brought every moment of tension, emotion, and suspense to life. Their performances elevated an already intense story and made it impossible to stop listening.
What I loved most is that this book feels like both an ending and a beginning. It beautifully closes one chapter of Anna and Boston’s story while perfectly setting the stage for what’s coming next. And after that ending? Waiting for the next audiobook is going to feel impossible.

Thank you to @DarkStarRomance for the ALC of Master Mind by @Alaska Angelini, A. A. Dark!! Ive already read the book and loved it but the narrators did an amazing job bringing the characters to life and getting their mannerisms correct. I especially loved what a great job they did with Dr. Patron and with Lucy. This is a pitch black book, its AMAZING and I highly recommend it but please check your trigger warnings!!

I’m actually giving this a 4.5 stars (Goodreads, please help us out and give us half-stars already!), but since that's not an option, there was no way I was rounding down here.
The mastermind behind this twisted ride is AA Dark! This is the third book in the series, and she brilliantly weaves together the events and characters from the first two books. She doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the horrors and atrocities the characters face. Definitely check your trigger warnings before diving in.
This book was twisted and sinister, made my stomach turn and is a cruel reminder of just how awful the world can be. I spent a good bit of the story somewhere between horrified and completely unable to stop listening.
And can we talk about the narration? I loved having all four narrators come together for this one. The guys did a fantastic job, but the LADIES? They absolutely stole the show. They brought so much emotion and intensity to their performances that every scene played out like a movie. Outstanding work. Chef's kiss, no notes for the Queens!

I thought this story was an emotional roller-coaster the first time around but Branden, Sean, Kasi, & Daniel said "BET!" Listening to this story performed in duet multi-cast narration vs reading this story had me even more of an emotional mess! This group of narrators gave everything they had to give & then some to bring this story to life & it was a jaw dropping, goosebump inducing experience. I can't wait to hear book 4 come to life!♡

We met Boston and Anna in previous books in this series. In this book an unfortunate event brings them together. What do you get when you bring 2 psychopaths together? A mastermind!!!This book had me on the edge of my seat and screaming.. the answer is right there!!! No surprise; I mean, it's AA Dark. The build up in this story and the narrator's talent make you feel the obsession the manipulation and all the raw emotion that comes with it. This series needs to be on the big screen! This cast!!! Chills, that's what I can say. They did phenomenally in their previous books in this series, but all together in this one they truly formed a masterpiece... full body chills!! Standing ovation for Branden Davis-Butler, Kasi Hollowell, Sean Masters and Daniel Lewis!!!

Branden – I loved how Anna was the anti-hero. You used her dark, terrifying past to support Boston, and I loved your mastery of effortlessly slipping from sweet to completely psychotic. It was captivating.
Daniel – Yet again, you completely mastered the obsessed boyfriend… and now friend. You brought so much intensity and emotion to the role. So well done!
Kasi – Such a sweet voice! Once again, you perfectly captured Lucy’s innocence while also bringing out her determined fighting spirit and resilience.
Sean Masters – You are ridiculously talented. I absolutely love you as the loving, dedicated delicious detective, but you absolutely terrify me as “M.” The contrast is incredible.
This book is for those of you who like to swan dive into pitch-black waters and keep sinking until you’ve reached oblivion. There is no going back. This story will terrify you. It is so well written, with not a single dull moment. It’s fast-paced, completely unhinged, and pushes boundaries at every turn.

I received this audiobook as an ALC for free and I am leaving my review on my own, in my own words.
I have no words. Its been almost 24 hours since I finished the audiobook and I still have no words. I just can't think straight when it comes to Boston and Anna. Dr. Patron is literally the best mastermind and simultaneously the worst person. How he thought he would fully get away with unaliving Lucy, convincing Anna to leave Brayden, convincing Boston that Anna is confused about Brayden and trying to play Boston all this time? What? Dr. Patrone is truly a mastermind, but his lies caught up with him the moment Lucy left Boston a voicemail. MasterMind was insane and the audio fully casted narration made the story come alive even more. I still can't believe the ending and I'm still in shock. I'm curious as to what is next for Anna and Boston, and how they handle this heartache and how Boston handles the trauma left from Dr. Patrones betrayal. I am still shook.

ok so this book was so much darker. I thought I knew what was going on and for most of it yes but there were twists and turns I didn’t see coming. OMG yall are not ready!!! And our amazing narrators kicked butt with this. They have all been good but I think so far this one is my fav!

A.A. Dark’s story writing combined with the insanely talented narrator’s
Held me held captive with my headphones on from beginning to end , I only hit pause to change out my headphones when the first one needed charging! Have you ever been so intently listening to an audiobook that when something happens that you find yourself yelling “Nooooooo” at your device? This is one of those! 🫣😢
Here I am at “The End” trying to patiently wait for the next one .

I have been waiting to see how Boston and Anna will come together and we finally get it with this one! I was not disappointed at all and seriously cannot wait to see what happens next as they go on their revenge journey.
I can't say too much without giving spoilers, but so much chaos in this one and several things that I definitely did not expect. That ending?? Whew! I mean, it was expected, but I might have been hoping for a little different outcome for some reason. I still like how it played out though.
We had some great tension, chaos, and everything seemed to be paced and flow so well. I listened to this one and the full cast narration was fantastic. The performance by every narrator brought so much into the story making it that much better. I honestly can't imagine trying to read this with my eyeballs, the audio brings so much to it.
Keep in mind that this is not for the faint of heart. This series is beyond dark, is not romance, and does not have a HEA. Definitely check your triggers!

At no point in this audiobook did I know what was going on. Every time I thought I had a grasp, nope wrong. The narrators absolutely brought these characters to life. The way that Anna and Boston’s worlds come together finally. The story itself is perfect and keeps you guessing what is going to happen. This is one of the best audiobooks I have listened to in a long time.

Story : 🤯🤯 That was me the last hour or so of this book!! To say I didn't see that coming is an understatement. And that ending!!! It was like watching a car accident in slow motion happen in front of you. I was just standing with me mouth open thinking "NO NONONONONO NOOOOO!!!!!" The suspense of this book just kept you right in the edge.
I honestly don't think I have ever hated a character more then M. And every time that slimy bastard got away with something, I just hated him that much more!! And the extent of his "practice & patients" mind blowing! You know Ana and Boston are killers, but not of the innocent (kinda), like bad good guys. Lol! Ana will forever go down as one of my top 5 FMCs ever! This was the perfect culmination of the first two books and can't wait to see where book four takes us!
Narration : The narrators chosen to bring this story to life are perfection! They continue to bring emotional depth to this emotional roller-coaster of a series! It is simply the perfect duo of talented writing and performing.

🎧AUDIOBOOK REVIEW🎧
The amount of times I shouted “ARE YOU ACTUALLY THIS FREAKING STUPID?!” and “YOU CANNOT POSSIBLY BE SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?!” while listening to this audiobook should honestly qualify me for some kind of public disturbance warning.
This wasn’t even reading at this point. This was psychological warfare with background music.
And the narrators were DISGUSTINGLY good. They didn’t narrate these characters. They BECAME them. Every ounce of tension, obsession, heartbreak, rage, desperation, and absolute emotional carnage was delivered straight into my bloodstream like a controlled substance. I genuinely do not think my nervous system will ever recover. Highly, highly recommend the audiobook experience if you too would like to suffer professionally.
As for the story itself... I have been WAITING for Anna Monroe and Boston Marks’ worlds to collide, but NOTHING could have prepared me for the level of devastation that followed once they finally did.
I was completely obsessed with every second unfolding in front of me while simultaneously wanting to grab these characters by the shoulders and shake them until common sense returned to their bodies because WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?!?! Every chapter somehow found a new way to emotionally body slam me into concrete.
And just when I thought maybe, MAYBE, I had a tiny scrap of emotional stability left, A. A. Dark apparently looked directly at my suffering and said:
“Not enough. Let’s ruin her properly.”
And then she proceeded to rip my soul out through my ribcage with surgical precision.
I am unwell.I am heartbroken.I am furious.I am obsessed.
There is genuinely nothing remotely intact about my poor broken heart after this.

MasterMind continues to exactly what I was hoping for as I've been listening to this series. Watching these two worlds collide brought together characters I've come to know, and A.A. Dark doesn't pull a punches along the way.
The story is dark, intense, and emotionally devastating, with twists that kept me questioning everything I thought I knew. The investigation, the manipulation, and the psychological elements created a constant sense of tension that had me completely hooked from beginning to end.
The audiobook is an experience. The narration brought every moment to life and had me locked in from the second I hit play. Each narrator delivered a strong performance that made it easy to become fully immersed in the story. The casting is alive with Branden Davis-Butler, Sean Masters, Kasi Hollowell and Daniel Lewis. Familiar voices to those that have been already listening.
As with all in this series, this is another absolutely a pitch-black read, and readers should pay attention to the content warnings and darkness scale before diving in. The ending left me shocked and I cannot wait to see what comes next for Anna and Boston.

What a fantastic journey this book has taken me on. This audiobook was perfection!
Branden Davis Butler and Kasi Hollowell had me crying my eyes out. The torture and all the feelings were so intense and powerful 😭 These women are so freaking great at their craft, I felt like I was there with Lucy and the way Branden was so perfect as Anna, just so so good!!
Dr. Patron was one suck fkr 😡
Boston had my whole heart, Danel Lewis is definitely becoming one of my favorite narrators, the way he portrayed Boston was just beautiful and raw, it was an amazing performance.
Sean Masters is an evil genius, His range is so incredible he can do so good as a good guy as well as a psycho murdered in the next breath...👏🏽

I listened to the audiobook, and in my opinion, it's the only way to get the full effect of the story. I thought Mad Girl had broken my heart, but Mastermind shattered it. Boston and Lucy's story crushed me. However, I loved the crazy friendship that Anna (MadGirl) and Boston (Never Far) have. I've read pitch black before, but not like this...it was perfection. AA Dark did an amazing job on the story, but Branden Davis Butler, Kasi Hallowell, Danel Lewis, and Sean Masters made the story even better (if that's possible) by bringing the characters to life.
Definitely check the trigger warning for this series...they weren't kidding when they named the level 'Oblivion.'
