Rate this book
She wants a one-night stand. He wants forever.

Gracie Smith has a plan for St. Patrick’s Day.
Find a bar. Find a stranger. Have a reckless, forgettable one-night stand.
No feelings. No promises. No complications.

There’s just one problem.
A man.
Her lifelong friend, Beck.

Best friends since kindergarten, they grew up in each other’s backyards, scraped knees and whispered secrets. A first kiss they promised meant nothing.

He’s her safe place. Her comfort. The one person she can truly be herself with.

But this St. Patrick’s Day, with green lights flashing and beer cups overflowing, Beck is done standing by while Gracie gives herself to men who don’t deserve her. Done pretending friendship is enough. Done watching her break her own heart.

Tonight, he’ll make her see him.
Make her see herself.
Tonight, he'll ruin the friendship.

A spicy, emotional friends-to-lovers novella about crossing the line, choosing forever, and realizing the most dangerous thing isn’t losing your best friend, it’s never taking the chance at all.

I absolutely loved this!! It was emotional, fun and so cute.
Lexi Davis truly knows how to deliver a story in just a 100 pages, it gave everything it needed to give.

Gracie and Beck have been friends since they were five, always inseparable. Now they are finishing college and things aren't so simple.. It's St. Patrick's Day, Gracie broke up with her boyfriend and is ready to have an one-night stand and Beck might be finally ready to cross the line.. It will be an eventful night and nothing will be the same again.

This was such an amazing novella, I loved that we got some flashbacks, we needed that insight into their friendship and when things changed for them. We got so much tension and the yearning, it was very well done, it made me feel so much in such a short time. It can always be longer, but I'm so happy we got to see them throughout the years.. The scenes at the bar, the realization, the protective streak, the banter and a spicy moment that was years in the making!!
They were so cute together, he was the only one who got to see both sides of her, the one who made her comfortable to be herself and she helped him get out of his shell. They made each other better!!

This is the third Lexi Davis novella I read and it's my absolute favourite. I hope she writes one for every possible holiday, they always deliver!!
I'll honestly read anything she writes, I love her writing so much!!

: ̗̀➛ Post-reading:
Okayyy well I really realllllly liked the first half of this novella and I was so sure it was gonna be a four-star read, but then that scene happened and I was pulled completely out of the story :/

· · ─ · 𝜗𝜚 · ─ · ·

I loved seeing Gracie and Beck in the present and also getting snippets of their story through flashbacks. For a novella, it was a nice move to get us to feel at least some buildup to their romantic feelings <33

Beck is this sweet, gentle and caring soul who wants only the best for Gracie. He’s so supportive, loyal and all-around the sweetest guy (and a definite submissive type).

But then came the other half of the story, and that part with the scene that just completely took away what had been established earlier. was so out of character imo that I had to stop and read the sentences leading up to that again... sure I'd missed something, but nope. And this was such a sweet and romantic moment!! And idk, after that it just felt like a completely different character for me, one I didn't particularly like anymore.

This is such a let down honestly cus I was reallllly enjoying the book up until that point!! This just felt so inconsistent with what we knew.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Lexi Davis & Victory Editing for the eARC in exchange for an honest review . ⋆˙⟡

I’ve read a couple of Lexi Davis’s novellas, and this is by far my favorite. It’s a quick friends-to-lovers story where we get a glimpse into Gracie and Beck’s past friendship. Especially the feelings they kept hidden from each other so they wouldn’t risk ruining what they had.

The story weaves between then and now, showing how they ended up where they are in the present. With Gracie newly single, she decides St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect time to get lucky… but things take a turn when one of her friends suggests she try her luck with Beck instead. Old feelings resurface, new revelations come to light, and Gracie finds herself hoping her luck leads her straight to him.

I thought their story was sweet and tender. It’s a reminder that sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and hope you end up lucky.

This was such a cute and fast read! I loved the plot, the character growth, the banter and the flash backs in each chapter. It made the story so full and rounded given it being a novella. I loved the ending and how the characters evolved and of course the HEA, it was perfect! Each time I read a new Lexis Davis book, I say its my favorite, well this is my new favorite - I loved it! 🍀💕

A cute friends to lovers novella.
My first by this author.

Boston, St. Patricks Day, an Irish pub.

Gracie and Beck have known each other since kindergarten, she was 5 years-old, their mother's becoming friends, and moving next door.
Now they're finishing college, and closer than anyone else, except this last year they'd drifted apart.
She doesn't know why!

She broke up with her boyfriend and she wants to enjoy the day with Kirsten, her female best friend, and her new roommate Trish.
She says she'll have a one-night-stand at the exact moment Beck arrives at the pub and when he goes to get drinks Trish asks if she can have a go at him and she says they are just friends!
But that's not true.
They are much more than that.

We are given snippets of their past at different ages, when something changed between them, and Beck is always at her side.
At 18 years-old she teaches him how to kiss (when did he became so handsome?) because he had never done it before, and at the end of the prom his girlfriend expected him to do so.
And she never forgot that!

What she really wants is not a one-night-stand, but someone kind, not just when people are watching, who shows up when it matters without the need to be reminded, who listens when she's rambling, who makes her feel choosen!
In one word Beck!
The man who loved her all her life, Kristen says. Adding that she'll lose him if she doesn't admit what she feels for him, and stops saying she doesn't want him, which Trish tells him she did.
He looks at her and leaves the bar, Gracie running after him, reaching a Beck completely devasted and furious, and when she tells him to take her home he says he doesn't want a one-night-stand, and that when he closes the door she'll be his forever!

What took them so long to get their HEA?

I love a simple premise.

Give me best friends, unresolved feelings, one chaotic holiday, and years of pining finally snapping, and I'm already seated with snacks.

Add St. Patrick’s Day chaos, a heroine attempting a reckless one-night stand, and a best friend who has clearly been emotionally suffering in silence for years?

Yes. Inject the yearning directly into my veins.

This is a short, spicy friends-to-lovers novella that unfolds over the course of one night, and while it absolutely delivered on the emotional tension I wanted… it also had a few elements that kept it from reaching full five-star feral status.

What Worked For Me
(aka: The Yearning Was Yearning)

The flashbacks actually worked
Flashbacks can be risky in short books because they sometimes interrupt the pacing, but here they felt intentional and necessary.

They give us glimpses of Gracie and Beck growing up together - childhood moments, that “it meant nothing” first kiss, the slow accumulation of shared history.

Because of that context, the emotional shift from best friends to something more lands much harder. You understand why these two matter to each other.

Mutual pining supremacy
Listen.

I'm a sucker for yearning, and this book understood the assignment.

Beck has clearly been down bad for a long time, but the story also shows that Gracie’s feelings have been quietly simmering too - they’ve just both been pretending not to notice.

That tension carries the entire novella. Every conversation has that subtle something’s about to break energy.
For such a short book, the emotional payoff actually lands pretty well.

The one-night structure works
Setting the entire story across one chaotic St. Patrick’s Day night keeps things tight and bingeable.

It gives the novella that “everything changes in a few hours” vibe that works really well for friends-to-lovers stories.

It’s a very easy one-sitting read - perfect if you’re in the mood for something quick, emotional, and a little spicy.

What Didn’t Fully Work For Me (Respectfully)

Beck’s energy… confused me slightly
Look.

I love a pining hero.

I love a man who has been emotionally unwell about a woman for years.

But at certain moments Beck was giving… submissive energy in a way I was not expecting.

Sir.

You are the lifelong best friend who has been secretly in love since kindergarten.

Why are you whimpering, my guy.

I support emotional vulnerability in men. I really do. But the tone of those moments felt slightly off compared to the rest of his protective, jealous energy.

Novella pacing limitations
This is the eternal novella problem.

The emotional setup is strong, but the transition from realization → confession → resolution happens pretty quickly because of the shorter format.

Did it still work? Yes.
Did I wish we had a few more scenes to sit in the emotional shift? Also yes.

A slightly longer story could have pushed this into four-star territory for me.

Final Verdict

Overall, this was cute, sweet, and emotionally satisfying for such a short read.

The friends-to-lovers tension works, the shared history adds weight to the romance, and the mutual yearning carries the entire story.

Is it a groundbreaking romance? No.
Is it a solid, cozy, spicy little one-sitting read? Absolutely.

And sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Final Rating: 3.5 stars

Short, sweet, full of yearning… and proof that the biggest risk in life isn’t a one-night stand with a stranger - it’s your best friend finally deciding he’s done pretending.

Tropes and Vibes:

• Best-FriendszTo-Lovers
• Lifelong pining hero
• Mutual yearning
• “I can’t watch you date idiots anymore” energy
• One chaotic night that changes everything
• St. Patrick’s Day romance
• Protective best friend
• First kiss history / shared childhood memories
• Emotional confession moment
• Quick spicy novella read
• Cozy, sweet, slightly chaotic romance vibes

I absolutely loved reading "Gracie Gets Lucky" by Lexi Davis! My only real complaint is that I honestly wish it was longer; I would happily read this as a full-length contemporary romance book. I loved the characters, Gracie and Beck, and I was completely hooked by the way their story unfolded through a mix of a present-day timeline and emotional flashbacks to them growing up together.

The childhood-friends-to-lovers dynamic is one of my favorite tropes, and it was executed perfectly here. Lexi Davis adds a beautiful layer of second-chance romance that makes their connection feel so much deeper and more poignant. It shows how they were able to lean on each other and build a solid foundation as friends, even when they were going through significant struggles in their past. Seeing that history play out made their current bond feel rooted and incredibly grounded, which made me cheer for them even more.

That history also created a lot of strong tension between the two of them during the present-day scenes. The "will-they/won’t-they" mystery kept me turning pages, wondering exactly when they would finally give in to the feelings that were clearly always there. I especially loved how Beck’s character was described. Knowing how he has cared for Gracie and pined for her for years made my heart ache for him in the best way possible. His protective nature was the ultimate green flag, adding a layer of safety and devotion to his love for her that I found so refreshing.

Overall, this novella delivered the perfect mix of build-up, slow-burn tension, and spice, making it such a fun and satisfying read. It’s a beautiful story of two people who were always meant to be together, regardless of the obstacles in their way.

Perfect if you love:
❤️ Friends-to-lovers with deep history
✨️ Childhood friends with a troubled past
🍀 Slow-burn tension
❤️ Mutual pining
✨️ The ultimate protective MMC (total green flag!)
🍀 Ruin the friendship trope and spice

Thank you NetGalley for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review!

Lexi Davis has quickly become my favorite part of any holiday. I always DEVOUR her novellas but this one especially was absolute perfection. This is my third time reading her books and I really love how she makes every character in her books feel different, and I fall in love every single time.

BECK. HE WHIMPERS. HE FUCKING WHIMPERS!!!!!!!! The yearning was already hot but THE WHIMPERING???? I’m so in love with him. I need him in a way that’s concerning to feminism.

I really love Gracie too. Women that yearn just as much as their man does will always be loved by me. I felt like I was in bisexual heaven because they were both hot as hell.

GracieBeck are so precious to me. I need to protect them. I need to kiss them. It’s been a while since a book has given me butterflies like this. The worst part is when it ended because I had to say goodbye 💔 I need a full length novel immediately.

There’s just something about a best friends to lovers story that always works for me. The history, the comfort, the quiet familiarity… and the moment when that line between friendship and something more finally starts to blur. 👏🏼👏🏼🤭

This novella does a great job showing that history through small glimpses of Gracie and Beck growing up together, which makes their connection feel genuine instead of rushed (something I’m always nervous about with novellas). Their dynamic feels natural and lived-in, and you can tell their bond runs deep long before anything changes between them.

At one point, a single line completely captured how strong that pull between them is.

”My attention kept slipping back across the room. Over the tops of heads. Between bodies. Always finding Gracie. Like I’m a compass spinning and she’s my true north.”

It’s such a small moment, but it says everything about the way their connection has always been there, quietly waiting to become something more. 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Overall this was a really cute, quick read that balanced emotion and tension well for a novella. It was satisfying and definitely scratched the friends-to-lovers itch 😌

i was really enjoying this novella probably up to the 60-65% mark but then unfortunately it took a turn and went downhill. this was dual pov and dual timeline, and i thought that was very useful given that this is a novella and we needed to learn about the characters quickly. as i said, i was liking the story but suddenly beck (the mmc) does something so out of character at 65% that it made me really dislike him and ruined the book for me. he was described as gentle and sweet and i just felt that was so misleading based on what happens after that point. this really just disappointed me because the story started off cute and enjoyable. maybe if it wasn't for that action and this was a full length book, i would have still enjoyed it. but it may be on me because i randomly requested the novella because i got curious about it, so i should have known what i was getting myself into.

Right now, I’ll read anything Lexi Davis writes. I’ve read every holiday novella since Halloween, and honestly, I’m obsessed. Gracie Gets Lucky is about Gracie and her childhood friend Beck. After a breakup, Gracie wants a one-night stand on St. Patrick’s Day, but Beck happens to be at the same bar. Beck has loved Gracie since they were kids, and tonight he wants her to finally see how he feels.

This novella is fast-paced and spicy, perfect for reading in one go. Every story leaves me wanting more. I always enjoy the main characters, and this one is no different. Gracie and Beck are adorable, and I love the dual timelines that let you see how they were as childhood friends. I would highly recommend all of Lexi Davis’s novellas to anyone looking for a fun romance, and I’m already excited for the next holiday story.

Gracie Gets Lucky is out March 3rd.

With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, here’s a perfectly themed read! 🍀🇮🇪

Gracie Gets Lucky by @authorlexidavis : A friends-to-lovers St. Patrick’s Day Novella. 🍀📚 ARC Review.

“Friends to lovers, mutual yearning, it’s always been you” tropes sprinkled with spice and drama in the right places... 🌶️

This novella had my heart melting in all the right places, and my reading poker-face was difficult to maintain. 😬At pace that had me hooked from the beginning, it was difficult to put down but when I had to, all I could think of was what was going to happen next.

Once finished, I then had to stare at a wall for some time! Try not to read this around your children because your face won’t hide your emotions! 🤪

👩‍❤️‍👨Gracie and Beck are beautiful people who will give you all the feels and catch you in their entrapment of mutual yearning through the book’s dual POVs and relatable characters. The multiple timelines allow you to really have an understanding of their history and attraction.

The only thing I could fault was that it was a short story - impatiently waiting for what’s next between the two characters. 😩

Have you got a St. Patrick’s Day book at the ready? 🍀

This is such a cute St Patrick's day Romcom!

Gracie was only looking for a one night stand. It's Saint Patty's day and she just wants to go to the bar, have some drinks, and find a man. She doesn't want feelings, she doesn't want commitment...at least she doesn't think she does. Her best friend Beck has something else in his mind though.

The story is told as a duel timeline which I appreciated because it let me really understand the dynamics of Gracie and Becks friendship. I feel like most of us could easily relate to their dilemma..having crushes on and especially dating close friends can be messy!

If you are looking for a novella that's cute but spicy and enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope then this is the perfect holiday read.

#Review: *Gracie Gets Lucky* - Lexi Davis - ARC [18+]
4.7/5✨
3/5🌶️

Gracie and Beck have been best friends since they were really young. They had a super cute friendship throughout the years, but inside them were also growing some different kind of feelings and not the platonic kind. One St. Patrick party would change everything between Gracie and Beck, but that will also put in jeopardy their long time, cute friendship. Will they be willing to face all those pent-up feelings without destroying what they had?

This was a super, super short novella, which had under 100 pages. I loooved that we had the chance to follow the story from both timelines, past and present, to see which were the triggers that lead to that situation from the present. Gracie and Beck had the sweetest friendship, but also that connection between them exuded sooo much more! And it was all consuming!! It was intense, spicy and a bit dangerous, because of all those stakes that were present, because their world could have crumbled down, if only one tiny things would have gone wrong. I liked that they were willing to face everything else in order to give a chance to what they strongly felt in their hearts.

Thank you so much Lexi for offering me this e-ARC!🤗 I'm so proud to be part of your amazing street team.🥰

If you love friends-to-lovers with mutual yearning that physically hurts… this St. Patrick’s Day novella needs to be on your TBR.

I absolutely loved this- emotional, fun, cute, and just a little spicy in all the right ways.

Gracie and Beck have been best friends since they were five. Inseparable. Always each other’s person.
Now they’re finishing college, it’s St. Patrick’s Day, Gracie just broke up with her boyfriend… and decides she wants a one-night stand.

And Beck?
Beck might finally be ready to cross the line.

The tension in this was SO well done. The yearning? I ate it up. The banter at the bar had me laughing out loud. And the flashbacks to their childhood? Stop. It made everything feel deeper and more special.

You get protective hero energy.
You get “it’s always been you.”
You get that realization moment where everything shifts.

And yes- there is a spicy scene that was YEARS in the making.

This is fast-paced, easy to read, and you can finish it in one sitting. It’s short, emotional, and so satisfying.

This is maaybe my fifth Lexi Davis novella and it’s officially my favorite. I will honestly read anything she writes at this point.

Confession:
I am an absolute sucker for childhood best friends who’ve secretly loved each other for years. No growth. No shame.

Thanks to Lexi Davis for the gifted ARC. All thoughts are my own.

4.5⭐️ Of course I loved it, it’s Lexi Davis. If you haven’t picked up one of her unhinged novellas yet, what are you even doing with your life?

Lexi does it yet again and delivers a full story novella in under 70 pages. I left this book feeling like I knew these characters inside and out.

Beck has been in love with Gracie as long as he can remember. They were best friends since Kindergarten but Beck has never once left the friend zone. Now in college on the night of St. Patrick’s Day, Gracie is getting over a breakup and thinks the cure to a broken heart is to have a one night stand with some random at the bar. Little does she know the only thing that is going to mend her heart is the one who has secretly held it since he was 5 years old.

We love Beck! We would fight for Beck. Beck is the 6’4, shaggy brown hair, glasses, loyal best friend, golden retriever.

Gracie. There were times I wanted to shake Gracie. Actually, the majority of the book I wanted to shake Gracie. At one point I was so annoyed with her that I had hoped Beck would just go out and hook up with every girl around him in spite of her. But this is why we leave the romance writing up to Lexi Davis and not me.

Thank you, Lexi Davis for another arc from your highly addicting, holiday themed, novella collection. You already know, if you write it, I’m going to read it. 💁🏼‍♀️💋

This little novella had me fully believing in true love again. It’s honestly the sweetest thing. Gracie and Beck being childhood best friends just hits differently. Watching them grow up side by side, sharing history, sharing moments, and slowly realising those feelings were never just “friendly” 🥹

The mutual pining? Painful in the best way.
The tension? Delicious.
The payoff? Worth it.

There’s something about a friends-to-lovers story with real history that just sinks its claws in and refuses to let go.

And I’m not even kidding… I need more of them. I’m not ready to leave their world yet 😭

Five stars. No hesitation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to author Lexi Davis for an eARC of this book!!

This was a really cute, St Patrick’s night out novella. Gracie is out with her girlfriends and her life-long bff, Beck. When one of her gfs asks her if Beck is with her, Gracie says he’s not, but once those two move away to start dancing together, Gracie is rethinking everything about her and her bff’s relationship.

This is told in dual timelines, so we pop back and forth from Gracie and Beck’s childhood to present day. Even though the novella is quite short (right around 101 pgs), the characters feel fairly well fleshed out. So if you’re looking for a cute, quick, bffs to lovers story, this one may be for you!

Review: Gracie Gets Lucky

Gracie Gets Lucky is a short novella about a friends-to-lovers romance and the journey of growing up while slowly realizing that the person who has been by your side all along might be the one you truly love. The story explores themes of friendship, self-discovery, and recognizing the feelings that can develop over time between people who have grown up together.

Overall, I thought this was a great read—short, light, and easy to get through. The friendship dynamic and the idea of finding yourself along the way were enjoyable aspects of the story.

That said, I do wish the book had leaned a little more into the spice, as it felt somewhat light in that department. Still, it was a decent and enjoyable read overall.
