Finished this paperback 06/16/24. The story took place
in 1828 in Haverford village which supported 7 coal
mines (sounded like too many). Mystery/ romance with
sex scene. Story had too many loose ends, unanswered
questions. But had potential. 3 stars.

The village, especially the miners, grieved their miner/
advocate Ethan Frost. Lady Elise Danforth, a widowed
mine owner, championed mine safety and had a
mechanical devise installed to remove water from her
mine.

This involved possible mine sabotage & 2 mysteriously
killed related to mines. Adrian's uncle pressed him
into the Royal Navy x 6 years. Uncle died and Adrian
became the earl. Adrian went undercover as a miner
to find out more about unexplainable events. And he
wanted revenge on gentry.

Elise & Adrian fell in love. They both talked to them-
selves out loud. Too many times readers heard he was
"a lowly stranger." But smart, bold & ruggedly hand-
some. And well-mannered and seemed of the Quality.

Once again, IMO, the baddie got a slap on the wrist.
For murder and attempted murder? For a flimsy
rationale?

lots of head-hopping. ... POV of the horse, seriously? Also, how many times do you have to use the title of the book in the narrative? "Loving a Lowly Stranger" appeared at least once in it's entirety and "lowly" and "stranger" appeared a minimum of a dozen times - frequently together.
