Now we are stepping back up to the plate, hell yeah the aura farming is off the charts this issue especially with all the new fantastic suit designs. I do wish the tomorrow institute, the school literally full of heroes, was utilized a bit more this issue, but they are just kids so I totally get not throwing them into a super villain fight and they provide great assists. Immediately jumping into this issue we pick back up from the last with static and shutdown going at each other at the tomorrow institute. The fight immediately takes to the skies as the static has to manage defending against shutdown’s attacks and defending civilians from damage around the city, all while shutdown’s entire plan hinges on draining static of all his energy. Elsewhere, Terry is having a very different time as he attempts to sneak throughout the Waynetech vault that Kobra has broken into during the blackout. He is finding just how much of an over reliance he has had on his suit as he struggles to sneak around, but then a voice calls out to him from the shadows. Directing him on where to go and eventually leading him to a secret panel with a new and improved batman beyond suit waiting for him. It seems to be inspired a lot more by the Arkham games batman beyond suit, but with a wicked awesome, almost smoky, cape that allows Terry to sneak in and scare the hell out of Kobra to take them down before they can get what they want in the vault. Right after Terry finishes up, the mysterious voice appears to him in a physical form, revealing itself to be none other than Ebon from the static shock series! I have to admit I still really need to watch that show, but this character design is off the charts awesome and it turns out what they came looking for…what a sample of Q-juice.

Back at the tomorrow institute, the tides of the battle are changing as the young heroes are safely ushers away and Aquamaria joins the fight to completely surround and drown shutdown out. His powers have 0 effect on her and he is almost taken down right there…until his panic triggered a teleport, forcing static to chase him down once more. But the tomorrow institute has a trick up their sleeve they can use, apparently all of the students are given inhibitor bracelets so they can deactivate their powers while learning how to use them. Then at graduation they give them back, so they have a ton of those sitting around them right now just waiting to be used. One of the administrators at the school work stretch powers offered to bring it up to them, but there was a high chance he could be hurt by shutdown. So instead they used his stretchy powers and a timer on the bracelets to launch them at shutdown. The bracelets only clipped shutdown. The it was enough to deactivate his powers and send him plummeting to the ground, where he immediately teleported away. At this point Ebon and Batman have also made their way over, traveling through shadows to get there, after Ebon had a moment to explain to Terry who he is and how Hardware lent the Q-juice as a sample to Waynetech for research, but now it may be the only sample left unaffected by shutdown.

As the chaos dies down at the school, it turns out Ebon is fully aware of the situation with Shutdown already because of his ability to see through shadows, he can see quite a lot at all times even if he can’t be everywhere at once. But he promises to pop back if they really need him. After handing the Q-juice to static, Richard has Ebon take them all over to one of Hardware’s bunkers where he has a new and slick suit for static to use as it was originally designed to help if he lost control of his abilities…now he is using it for the opposite once he lost his abilities. But now we get to the Q-juice, how does it help? As static describes it, the juice is basically liquid possibility. As people with thoughts and emotions those become powerful immaterial things, and those things have physical effects on our bodies. One theory with Q-juice is that once it comes in contact with human consciousness, it bridges the gap between the material and immaterial and manifests an answer for a persons desires, ones they may not even be conscious of. For example, Static’s dad used to say Static always wanted enough energy to help as many people as he could, and we see how that turned out. Now this current sample of juice doesn’t have any energy signature, that is part of the unpredictability of it once it leaked Dakota, but static has a theory about jump starting it. If he can thread energy into shutdown’s disruption aura (which was picked up by the inhibitor bracelet used in the fight) through the Q-juice it should act as an amplifier and a shield, it will negate shutdown’s aura, re-energize the juice, and get him back to full power…or he will loose all his powers if he is wrong. But that’s a risk Static is willing to take. Static immediately does it without waiting, and suddenly all of the electricity roared back to life. This is a proof of concept that they can scrub shutdown’s disruption aura off Earth’s power grid, but right now it’s only effecting the bunker they need to actually find shutdown to really have an impact and fix everything. But even if they dj find him the kid is coming apart at the seems and anyone who gets too close will be disrupted…unless of course you are batman, have no powers, and can sneak up and slap the inhibitors bracelets on. Suddenly Ebon enters the room, he said he would show back up when there is a threat he cares about and there is one approaching outside. Suddenly the entire bunker is surrounded by an armed team as none other than Cadmus has come for Static for…crimes against humanity?! WHAT?! I want to talk to the newsboy legion right now! LOL.

Hey remember the plot line that was at the very start of this where Earth is trying to join the cooperative after developing light speed travel? Yeah I’m sure a lot of people have forgotten about it, lol, but it did send a lot of Earth’s heroes to see space and it’s about time to check in on them. And to be honest, it’s not fun. Their submission to join is not the only thing in the docket of this conference to they are having to sit by day after day as they listen to boring policy debates. Warhawk hates it more than most, but that doesn’t stop his mom, I mean councilor Shayera Hol, from being on the council. Absolutely love to see Shayera, she looks great! And even though John is retired it turns out he is still out dealing with some other worlds that hold a grudge. We specifically get a hologram of John punching out a dominator, lol. But she isn’t here for a family visit, she has bad news concerning earth as the cooperative has been keeping an eye on it and their surveillance detected a massive blackout event across the planet. The council didn’t think it was their business to inform them of this event, but Shayera is not one to follow orders. Warhawk immediately booked it back to Earth, flying past some pretty xenophobic council members who called him a half-breed. Turns out these two have their own reasons for not wanting Earth to join the cooperative though. They know how Earth’s starcraft was powered, the q-juice aka quantum extract which generates locally on Earth, and they fear that if Earth gets access to cooperative resources they could develop the technology and evolve faster than the other worlds causing the balance in power to shift. So these two are planning on arguing the danger that Earth represents and advising containment protocols should be put into effect so they can take the Earth’s resources for themselves. Luckily micron was able to overhear them, but this is not a good development.
