I will admit to being something of a fantasy snob. There's a lot of bad fantasy out there, and there's a lot of bad self-published novels out there too, so I would usually assume the chances of a book that intersects those two entities being any good would be low. Dardenfall happily is not such a novel. I was really very impressed by this book. Some excellent characterization and some very adept world-building is on display here. The story is compelling, and my only real complaint is that this is actually the first half of a longer work, so don't expect very much resolution. I would still recommend picking this up nonetheless, so that you too can add your voice to the call to Mr Scavone to give us the concluding half!

There are a few minor infelicities of copy-editing, which you'd expect from a self-published work. Please don't think that "self-published" means "amateur". Mr Scavone has produced a better work than many fantasy novels from long-established authors contracted through well-known publishing houses. I really hope we will see more from this very talented writer.

Great unfolding story

Was impressed by the convergence of separate stories into one great unfolding fantasy. I recommend this to all fantasy lovers.
