Neem's medicinal properties have been known for thousands of years and have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for millennia. Neem is featured in ancient Sanskrit texts and its use is so varied that the tree has been called the "Village Pharmacy". At the turn of the 21st century, Neem caught the growing interest from an international bio-agro-chemical business over the potential of Neem's organic alternative to industrial pesticides. Patents that were granted by the European Patent Office to US Corporations became subject to a 10 year court battle including an appeal from the US as they wanted full patent control of this tree and all that it offers. Dr Vandana Shiva claimed you can't patent ancient knowledge and called the atrocity "bio-piracy". After a long battle, the Neem patent that was awarded to the US Corporation was finally revoked. It truly is a crime when corporate powers claim they deserve patent rights simply because they've published information first. Neem is scientifically known as Azadirachta Indica and contains unique and diverse terpenoids that have so many healing benefits. As science uncovers additional terpenoids, additional benefits are also discovered. This book is written from the perspective of one who has experienced Ayurvedic medicine first hand and has first hand knowledge with the Neem tree. Ryder Management is once again proud to sponsor Sara Abraham, a writer and young Mother of Two, from India, as she shares her knowledge and research on this magical Tree of Life.
