I was born in Suffolk and grew up to spend a lot of time skipping around the garden making up stories. Not much has changed! However, I live in Wales now and have written three books based in a fictitious town, Pontardeilo, which is largely based on Llanelli in South Wales, which is my home. They are: "The Accidental Stalker," "Moving Times" and "Misplaced Fortune."

I was educated at Northgate Grammar School for girls (how we longed to meet boys!) Later I went to Homerton College, Cambridge, cycled everywhere, stopping to say "Good Night" to Kings's college on my way home from wherever I had been and learned how to teach.

Teaching taught me how to learn from other people. Like most authors, I love eavesdropping and sometimes write down snippets of conversations which sound intriguing.

I am interested in family sagas, how life experiences change people's personalities and try to write with humour and sensitivity.

I do hope you will read and enjoy my books!

Review for 'The Accidental Stalker' by Mary Powles.

Read and reviewed in paperback for Mary Powles, Brown Dog Books and Goodreads.

Publication dates: Kindle: 14 July 2021 and Paperback: 4th November 2014

This may be the first book I have read by this author but I cannot wait to read her next one!!

This novel consists of a prologue and 34 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

'The Accidental Stalker' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Mary discusses Cancer, Bereavement, Dementia and Alzheimer's.

Well done and Thank You to Mary Powles for a hugely successful and stunning read!! This book is very smoothly written with vivid descriptions which really help you see what's going on around you as well as the storyline. The blurb and the cover compliment the novel perfectly. The illustrations on the paperback cover are beautiful.

OMG!!!!! I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this absolutely addictive and truly unique book!!! Honestly this book has just hit my top 3 books and considering how many books I have read that is an epic success!!! Instead of wasting your time reading this just grab your copy and get lost in this great storyline now. I can promise you won't regret it!! Mary's amazing and evocative writing skills really has brought everything to life all throughout this fantastic book dropping you straight into Pontardeilo with these absolutely amazing characters that I will not be forgetting for a very long time, if I ever do!!! This book really has been one of the best books I have ever read!!! It is ram packed with friends, romance, fun, heartbreak, love, laughter, finding yourself, family, forgiveness, second chances and absolutely everything you could ask for in an unputdownable must read!! There are so many things that I adore about this book. One of the main things is that it is set in "Pontardeilo" which is actually based on the authors hometown of Llanelli which is just up the road from me and I absolutely loved recognising many places names which really made everything so much easier to picture!!! This book tells the story of Grace and Jack. Grace loses her mother Lucy who she had spent a very long time caring for. She lives with her children Max and Sarah on her own after her ex husband Anthony had flown off to America and decided to stay there running his own business. Grace also has a brother Richard but he lives in London with his wife Catherine. Grace is a partner in estate agents Pughes and Palmer, grace being the Palmer in the name and works with Byron and Nancy. During the funeral Grace spots a strange elderly man hovering around and we later discover that this is Jack. Jack recently lost his wife Doris who suffered dementia. The death of Doris pushes him to find out what happened to the love of his life Lucy, Grace's mother. Jack lives on his own but has got a son Paul who also lost his wife Charlotte and a grandson (Paul and Charlotte's son) Liam. However, Paul blames Jack for Liam going into the army and what happened so they do not speak much. However, when Jack ends up going to Pontardeilo the lives of Grace, Jack, Paul and Liam all become entwined. Will Grace find out why there is a man stalking around? Will Jack get the answers he is looking for? Will Paul find happiness after the loss of his wife? Grab this beautiful page turner to find out!!! When I was reading this book it was like taking a relaxing walking through the parks in Llanelli while being told the story from Grace and Jack. It is such a down to Earth and realistic everyday storyline but one filled with emotions that i could see it all play out in front of my eyes. It is set in the time leading up to Christmas so there are some festivities thrown in but also the thoughts and feelings of those who are spending it alone included which made me consider those without family over Christmas time and made me realise what they may be feeling. It is a beautiful and emotive storyline of regrets and 'What ifs?', second chances, forgiveness, moving on, friendship, humour and love and I loved every moment of it! Mary covers a number of sensitive topics such as cancer, aging, dementia, loneliness, bereavement, divorce and weaves it all into a beautiful storyline covering each of the topics sensitively whilst also highlighting the difficulties people struggle with each. Mary does an amazing job of intertwining the perspectives of both Grace and Jack perfectly so we see and feel what they are feeling and doing throughout the storyline while also living their lives along with the lives of the other characters such as Anthony, Stuart, Nancy, Richard, Paul, Liam and Gabby. Every single one of the characters are realistic, well develop[ed and strong and apart from the buttholes Anthony and Steffan I loved most of them and hope to meet them all again. One character I can not include is the lovely Wesley who is Grace's dog. I am a huge animal lover, even running my own cat rescue (Golden Oldies Cat Rescue And Hospice which you can find on social media) and love seeing animals play big parts in books!! Wesley is definitely a big character especially for such a little dog and I absolutely adore him!! Mary covers a range of relationships from parent and child, grandchild and grandparent, ex partners, friends as well as a large generational range which I enjoyed as we not only got to see how Grace felt being a middle age female but also how Jack felt as an elderly gentleman in society. The fact that Mary genuinely cares about her characters absolutely shines through the book as does the fact that she has done plenty of research in different locations and about a variety of topics. It is a pet hate when an author does little or no research into their chosen topics as it then runs the risk of their books being littered with mistakes and spoiling what could otherwise be a very good story but Mary has completely avoided this by doing plenty of research! I genuinely love how she covers such everyday topics portraying family life, social life, dating and work life and creates this intriguing, captivating page turner that I was completely hooked on! When it came to the characters I felt a wide range of emotions and I loved and sympathised with Grace, was disgusted and angered by Steffan and Anthony, my sides were hurting from laughter thanks to Byron, my heart went out to Paul and Jack and I found myself smiling, shouting, sad and laughing at different moments in this brilliant storyline. i am so pleased that we get to meet many of the characters again in Mary's next book 'Moving Times' which I have started reading and have already fallen in love with so keep your eyes peeled for my review of that which is coming soon! There was no way I could finish just one chapter as even though I kept telling myself I would and then go to bed, each chapter ended in a way where I just HAD to know what happened next and before I knew it I had devoured the whole book in one sitting in a few hours!!! The storyline was realistic which I always prefer as it makes it more enjoyable to read when you can see that it is something that could happen. This book is well constructed and was absolutely ram packed with so much going on that you will just fly through the pages!!! It is multi layered with all the fantastic characters backgrounds and personalities coming out and each and every character has their own personalities. It was a very compelling and addictive read!!! I genuinely could not praise this book enough as words just will not give it justice so grab your copy today, you won't regret it!!!!

Clear your schedules and get ready to get completely sucked into a gorgeous, emotive and beautiful page turner

I loved meeting all the characters who are a delightful mix of personalities with intriguing backgrounds and each one was very compelling. I have never met a group of characters like this before and I've never loved a group of fictional characters as much as I did with this gang!!!! The only downfall is that they aren't real which is gutted as I would definitely get along with this gang!!!! I can't remember the last time I laughed so much!!! I fell in love with them all and I was absolutely devastated to come to the end and have to say goodbye!!! I am just so pleased that many of them are in the beautiful 'Moving Times' which is Mary's next book that I am already absolutely hooked on! There are so many different characters of all ages and from all walks of life with very different situations and backgrounds all come together in this stunning read. As always there are characters that you won't like, especially certain males who I wanted to strangle the way they treated one of the amazing characters but where would be the fun if you liked all the characters?? Mary's amazing evocative writing skills really have brought each of these characters to life throughout this book and it is really sad to say Goodbye in this book but am chuffed I am reading about them again in 'Moving Times'! An amazing group of realistic, strong, hilarious and unique characters that I have loved getting to know in this amazing book and that will stay with me for a very long time!!!!

Congratulations Mary on an absolutely stunning successful book, an absolutely brilliant, unique, emotive and thought provoking must read and I cannot wait to get stuck into more of your amazing books!! Welcome to my favorite authors club and here is to your next guaranteed success 🥂!!!!

Overall an absolutely gorgeous, realistic page turner filled with emotions and with memorable characters!!!

This book is just £4 to purchase on kindle and just £3.73 in paperback via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

The Accidental Stalker by Mary Powles is a story that resonates with us all as we get older.
A story of reflection, especially on missed opportunities.

Jack, albeit late in life seeks to address this which leads to an interesting and realistic series of events.

From the intriguing opening page, we are taken on a delicious, witty romp.
We are amused and chuckle with Grace and her family as realistic life challenges ensue.

The plot, characters and relationships are evocatively portrayed in a sharp, exuberant, observational, comedic style.

A delightful, refreshing and entertaining read from beginning to end .

Well done Mary!

I look forward to reading Mary’s other two books:‘Moving Times’ and ‘Misplaced Fortune’.
