Softly Santana didn’t have a good childhood. When her parents were sent away to prison for a Ponzi scheme, she was sent to live with her and his vindictive wife. In spite of her rough start to life, Softly never let the negative in others weigh her down or hold her back. Now, Softly navigates single motherhood and mortgage loans, craving escape after her divorce. When her ex-husband takes their kids for a week, she books a cruise with her best friend Elise, and with her best friend as her anchor, she expects sun and detachment. Not Royce McCoy. Royce McCoy doesn’t let much get to him. He overcame abuse at the hands of his mother and was determined to show her she couldn’t break him by going into business with his best friend and owning multi-million-dollar luxury car dealerships. After losing his unborn child, the solitary freight tycoon boards a Valentine's singles’ cruise seeking escape. There, he meets divorced mortgage broker Softly Santana, a radiant plus-sized woman carrying her own wounds. Amidst a sea of pink roses, their seven-day, six-night voyage ignites a raw, intimate connection where passion becomes their shared language of healing. Every night in his bed, against silk sheets, they trade brokenness for tenderness, discovering that the deepest scars fade when touched softly.
This is my first time reading a book by this author but won’t be my last. I fell in love with these characters and their story. I loved Soft’s no nonsense attitude, her strength, and joy. Royce was all man but to see the softer side of him, his human moments, and his joy was everything. The bonding, flirting, and time well spent on their cruise and once returning home was spicy, sexy, sensual , romantic and peaceful. It’s like after experiencing such hurtful moments it’s beautiful to see the other side of that and become and have all of what GOD has created and desires just for you. Hands down loved it 10/10
The background information about the characters was just enough and did not drag on, I enjoyed that. This love story was cute and really fictional and everyone had a happily ever after. I am glad of the happily ever after ending and not a novel that leads readers hanging for sequel after sequel. That is getting so annoying with several urban fiction authors making a story a sequel when they can finish in one novel. I appreciate this author not doing that.
What was meant to be temporary slowly unfolds into something deeper, layered with healing, vulnerability, and quiet growth. This was an emotional, heartfelt read about second chances, timing, and choosing love on purpose.
