He’s the worst boss in the galaxy—and she’s not afraid to tell him so.
Savannah Mays has always been a top-tier executive assistant—until one catastrophic run-in with her boss gets her fired and blacklisted. With bills piling up and no other options, she signs on with GAL Friday, Earth’s premier temp agency supplying human workers to aliens. It’s supposed to be a temporary fix. Emphasis on temporary.
Vice President Stratos of OberTech’s R&D division is brilliant, demanding, and famously impossible to work for. When his long-suffering assistant dares to go on maternity leave and HR fails to find a replacement brave enough to survive him, he reluctantly turns to GAL Friday.
Enter Savannah.
From the moment they meet, sparks fly—and not the pleasant kind. He’s grumpy, blunt, and allergic to small talk. She’s sharp-tongued, fearless, and refuses to be intimidated by a six-foot-something alien executive with a permanent scowl. Their constant clashes quickly ignite into something far more dangerous than workplace tension.
Because beneath the snark and scowls lies undeniable chemistry—and a conspiracy that could cost them everything.
Grumpy Alien Boss (GAL Friday, #1) is a steamy, witty sci-fi office romance packed with banter, heat, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
USA Today bestselling author Cara Bristol writes science fiction romance about tough alien and cyborg heroes who fall hard for sassy heroines.
Cara is a homebody who married a wanderer. When she’s not writing or being distracted by squirrels cavorting outside her office window, she enjoys reading and traveling the world with her husband. Topping her bucket list is visiting all seven continents and petting a squirrel.
An office romance, alien-style with the crackling of attraction , ahem, loathing. The boss and the temp are setting the office files on fire. Cara Bristol is one of my go-to authors and I barely read the blurbs at this point. I’m not one for office romance, but if she’s writing it, I’m there for it- because... fun aliens and intriguing sci-fi worlds, right?
My full review will post at That's What I'm Talking About on 5.28.26
OH.MY.GAWD!!!!!! This was spacetactular!!!!!! First of all Stratos is the grumpiest grumpy mcgrumpy pants I have ever met!!! Secondly he’s purple(fav color🥰) and brilliant(yay nerds!) and hunky of course🤩)….but then….. then!!!!… he’s secretly sweet???!!! And doting…and protective….and indulgent….and hoh for her!!!!!!
I adored Savannah’s sassy attitude and inability to keep her sassy thoughts to herself sometimes🥰🤭
The plot and storytelling for this kept me hooked and finishing it in a few hours!!!! The steamy bits were off the charts hot!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥 It had an awesome bit of mystery and intrigue….a good dose of humor 🥰🥰🥰 A good bit steamier (🤩🔥🥰🔥😍🤗) than most of the other Cara Bristol books I’ve read (YAY!).

The story begins on Earth with Savannah Mays going to work, only to learn she is being terminated for sexual harassment of her boss, Gavin Porter. Amazing that he started the affair, but he omitted that he was married, and once his wife found out, Savannah became the scapegoat.
HR: The Karing Company has zero tolerance for sexual harassment. Savannah: Who am I supposed to have harassed? HR: Gavin Porter. Savannah: Gain? No. No. You don’t understand. It’s not how it looks. Talk to Gavin. He’ll tell you. HR: Mr. Porter filed the complaint. There is nothing to clear up. The company’s policy is firm. Zero tolerance. And subject to your employment contract, which states you were hired at will. The company does not need a reason to fire you. Your record will show you were terminated without stating a reason. Consider it a gift under the circumstances.
The story will have Savannah unable to find work. As a last resort, she will apply with Gal Friday, ‘Galactic Auxiliary Labor’ temporary agency, and is placed on Oberian to work for Vice President Stratos of OberTech’s R&D division.
What a fun, snarky, witty, and steamy sci-fi office romance. As growly and unpersonable as Stratos is, Savannah is outgoing but anything but a doormat for his attitude. She seems to hold her own with comebacks and telling him the truth. The job is for nearly two years, and for Savannah, it will be a challenge to survive the food alone; the boss, well, that’s still debatable. I love how she doesn’t back down, manages to organize his files, learn his tech, and rebuild her life. What Savannah never expected was chemistry and attraction to Stratos—and unknowingly, he is battling the same issues. What happens when Stratos needs her to accompany him to a very important event showcasing the company's products to buyers?
“This is work, not a date. Act like you always do.”
The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people/aliens. In the Obertech cafeteria, Savannah met a human, Brad Benson, who helped her with which food offerings are palatable and which to avoid. At least she has someone to have lunch with most days. Dealing with his mother, the CEO, and his sister over Personnel is a stumbling block in the beginning. The future for Stratos to become the next CEO is challenged due to favoritism.
The story is full of snarky tête-à-têtes between Savannah and Stratos from the beginning of their workplace meeting. The one thing Savannah keeps telling herself is to avoid anything personal with my boss, do my job, save money, and start over—but the attraction screams something else. It isn’t just Savannah feeling an attraction; Stratos does too. Having her in the office is a blessing and a curse at the same time. She has organized and taken the burden of dealing with many things off his schedule, yet her presence is a distraction. Will entering a personal relationship lead to destroying them both?
Savannah Mays has always been an excellent executive assistant—until a shocking termination by the boss she had worked for the past three years, Gavin Porter. He has her fired and blacklisted with no way to defend her reputation, and has avoided confronting her personally over this. He had the staff pack her personal items before she arrived so she couldn't confront him, then security escorted her out of the building.
Savannah finally signed up with GAL Friday, a temp agency that arranges human workers for aliens. She is sent to a demanding boss, Vice President Stratos of OberTech’s R&D division, known to be difficult to work for. His assistant Verilla had been put on maternity leave when the doctor ordered bedrest, which is 2 years for her species. Personnel sent ten candidates for the job, and they either didn't want to work for him or didn't have the skills. So Stratos is desperate to find someone since no one else is comfortable working with him and things are becoming dire as his office gets more disorganized every day. He is convinced no human could understand the business or his requirements, but he has no other choice. On her first day, no one knew she was coming and security would not allow her in. She had already paid a huge penalty for breaking her apartment lease for this job... and now had no way to get home to Earth. But Savannah stands up for herself and surprises her new boss with how quickly she fits in and learns the business. And surprisingly, the two of them seem to have chemistry for each other. But after the disaster with her former boss, would she be foolish enough to risk a relationship with Stratos?
The storyline is well written and pulls the reader right into the story. This author has always been a favorite of mine, and I was delighted to enjoy this one. You definitely won't want to miss it!
Captivating read regarding Savannah and Stratos the VP of Ober Tech a rather intense boss Savannah Mays has been desperately looking for work after she had been unfairly sacked from her previous position and she had bills to pay so had taken a chance with GAL Friday where she is employed directly for the VP of Ober Tech, he is intense character and his name is Stratos. He had never actually used GAL Friday before but when his current assistant was going on maternity leave, he could not afford to be understaffed, when Savannah starts working for him, he finds her to be both brisk and rude and he is very surprised when she quickly made it obvious that she would not stand for his nonsense. As they begin to acclimatise to each other and their preferred working habits it was essential that their feelings for each other seemed to be growing and the attraction they feel for each other is getting stronger. When it becomes apparent that someone is trying to sabotage them and it is not obvious who is responsible so this is causing an unnecessary strain but they also know that his mother is not a nice person and his sister is not any better. All they care about is themselves and what they want to purchase they have no interest in the business or the running of it simply the spending of any revenue they can get their hands on. This is a complex read with complex characters and the interaction between the main characters is wonderful and I guarantee that other readers will enjoy every moment of this book. There are plenty of twists and turns and I guarantee that readers will enjoy the complex relationship between these characters and the way their relationship both working and personnel builds. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

I genuinely enjoyed the first half of this book. The pacing felt smooth, the characters were engaging, and the core idea had a lot of appeal. It was fun and easy to get into. However, once I reached the second half, it started to feel like the story lost its balance. Everything moved very quickly, and several developments were rushed or not explored enough.
The transition from a professional relationship to a romantic one did not feel fully developed. I could not clearly pinpoint when or how that shift happened, which made the relationship less convincing than it could have been. A more gradual and layered progression would have made a big difference. Similarly, the reason behind the MMC’s strained relationship with his family was not explored in enough depth, which left his emotional arc feeling somewhat incomplete.
The worldbuilding was actually one of the stronger aspects. The setting was interesting, and the story clearly had a lot of potential. But that is also why the missing details stood out even more. With a bit more length and more attention to character dynamics and background elements, this could have been a much stronger and more immersive read.
Overall, it was not a bad book at all, and it had a lot of potential. Still, the rushed pacing in the second half and the lack of depth in certain areas kept it from fully delivering on that promise.

The first book in a new series that looks to be a good one! GAL Friday is an earth agency that provides temporary workers to alien planets. Savannah Mays never thought she would never even consider working for such an agency, but when she is accused of sexual harassment by her cheating boss, he throws her under the bus to save his marriage. Blackballed and unable to find any employment on earth, she is out of money and choices. So, off the Oberian she goes!
Strato’s is the Vice President of Research and Development for his family company, OberTech. He has a well-earned reputation of being a very difficult person to work for. With his normal executive assistant out on maternity leave, he has rejected or chased off every candidate the HR department has sent him. Now three months later no one will even agree to an interview with him. His friend tells him about the GAL Friday agency. Out of other options, he reluctantly agrees to try it.
To say Savannah and Strato’s get off to a rough start is putting it mildly! Sparks definitely fly as two strong personality’s clash. But Savannah has no other employment options so she is determined to stick it out. When things finally smooth out at the office and Strato’s and Savannah establish a good working rhythm, disaster strikes threatening the company and Savannah’s job and reputation, again. Can Strato’s discover the truth before it is too late? An excellent book.

Author Cara Bristol has done it again! If you love a sci-fi romance that blends humor, heat, and heart, Grumpy Alien Boss delivers on every level.
Stratos is the perfect “grumpy genius” hero, is brilliant, creative, and completely out of his depth when it comes to people. As the VP and lead designer of OberTech, he’s fighting to prove himself worthy of his late father’s legacy while navigating the quiet sabotage from his own family. Watching him struggle with both corporate politics and human (and alien) connection makes him incredibly compelling.
Savannah Mays is the perfect counterpart. After a painful and humiliating setback on Earth, she takes a leap of faith with the Gal Friday program—and lands right in the middle of Stratos’s chaotic world. She’s smart, resilient, and grounded, bringing warmth and emotional intelligence that balances Stratos beautifully. Their dynamic is equal parts funny, tender, and undeniably steamy.
The chemistry between them is fantastic, with plenty of sizzling moments woven into a story that never loses its charm or humor. The workplace tension, family conflict, and intergalactic setting all add layers that keep the story engaging from start to finish.
This is a fun, feel-good sci-fi romance with just the right amount of spice and emotional payoff. Fans of grumpy/sunshine tropes and alien romance will absolutely devour it.
Savannah Mays was wrongfully fired from her job at Karing. She didn’t do what they say she did. She needs a job to pay her bills though. She takes a chance on GAL Friday and is sent to work for OberTech. But the VP is a real jerk. VP Stratos of OberTech R&D needs an assistant. His current one is going out on maternity and the ones they keep sending him are all failures. He takes a chance on GAL Friday and has a human sent to him. She is brisk and rude but she doesn’t take any of his nonsense. She has even organized his files. Things between these two seem rough till Stratos takes her to an event to boost sales. Things changed from there. They both followed their hearts and you would think things would be great. But someone is trying to sabotage them. Him mother is a piece of work. She and his sister care nothing about the business only what it is worth. I was so shocked at what they would do to break these two up. At first I was concerned when things started to fall apart. I honestly even worried about the AI he had in his home. But she isn’t what I thought and thank goodness his friend for suggesting GAL Friday. Things between them is hot then sad then hot again. I am looking forward to who will be next needing GAL Friday. Heck if it was real, I would take a job with them.

This is the first book in the GAL Friday series and it is off to a great start. This is the story of Savannah Mays and Stratos. Savannah is an excellent executive assistant right up until her bosses wife gets Savannah fired for sexual harassment. A wife she didn't know existed until her firing. After being blacklisted on Earth, Savannah signs up for GAL Friday. A Galactic Auxiliary Labor Temp Agency. She is sent to Oberian to work for Vice President Stratos of OberTech’s R&D division. Stratos has a reputation of being difficult to work for. With his personal assistant off for two years maternity leave, he is desperate to find someone to help him with all his overwhelming administration. A friend recommends GAL Friday and he selects Savannah. This is their story. The book is very well written and easy to read. I enjoyed watching the sparks fly between Savannah and Stratos. After her previous job and life exploded, Savannah was not willing to put up with much. She whipped his filing system into shape and slowly became the asset that she always was. This is a great grumpy/sunshine story. I really enjoyed it. I look forward to the next story in this series.

Human To The (Work) Rescue A funny, romantic read where a grumpy alien boss learns to appreciate an excellent human personal assistant. Stratos is an extremely introvert inventor of all kinds of technological gadgets and AI that streamlines everyday life. But he is also a top chaotic person, buried in administrative issues and people who want his attention for everything and nothing. No room for what he does best: his R&D work, creative thinking to make new things. Unsatisfied and impatient with the assistants that his sister, VP of Personnel, he follows his friends advise and goes to GAL, the Earth organization for temporary personnel. When Savannah takes the job as a last resort, she organizes his workload and enters into a relationship that grows from business into personal. Their banter and flirting is so very humorous, it left me full of laughs and enjoyment. But when his mother and sister take a more prominent role in the story, the atmosphere sours. There is also industrial espionage and evil manipulation. AI to the rescue and the HEA! Wonderful, enjoyable book, highly recommended. Savannah has just been told she is being fired for harassment. She had never once in her career as an assistant dated a coworker much less begun an affair with her boss. Now said boss has filed a complaint against her. Stratos has just been told by his assistant that the medic has told her she needs to rest because she's expecting. Unfortunately it's two years pregnancy. He is exacting in his expectations and has not found anyone. This is best friend suggests he look into GAL.,Galactic Auxiliary Labor. She speaks her mind to him which shocks him but he hires her anyway. Now she's doing her job when she finds a memo that he should see. When she goes to show it to him it's gone. The stakes have risen...she needs the job but she needs to figure out how to prove to him there was maybe still is a conspiracy. Will she get him to pay attention? Will he find the people involve in what's happening to the company? Love the interaction between a human and an alien, especially a grumpy one.

After a mistake hookup with her boss, Savannah gets a job through GAL Friday, an intergalactic temp agency. She gets hired by a grumpy alien named Stratos. She surprises him by giving lip right back at him and calling him out on his rude behavior. They seem to be getting closer every day. He appreciates her summarize all his email and organizing his calendar. She eventually befriends another human and starts having lunch with him everyday. It comes to Stratos' s attention that someone is stealing plans for products they are getting ready to release and releasing them before his company is able to. His mother, the CEO, and the HR VP, his sister, call a meeting and accuse Savannah and the other human, Ben, of being the ones who are selling company secrets. He resigns, she gets arrested, and deported. But all is not as it seems. There's a couple of little twists and some unresolved storylines but maybe they're for another book? I can't wait to find out.

Grumpy Alien Boss is book one of the author’s GAL Friday series that begins with this steamy Sci-Fi romance standalone whose FMC Savannah Mays, executive assistant from GAL Friday has just been hired to fill in for the Oberion VP of OberTech’s R&D division while his current one is on maternity leave. Its a fiery time of Mr. Alien grumpy against Ms. Fearless, who isn’t putting up with his intimidation. But beneath all that angst a little chemistry or alien mate bond flame begins to flicker, so could love be far behind? Not if Savannah has anything to say about it, she was burned once by her last boss, never again…but? I enjoyed the story which was nicely written with well crafted characters, some drama, corporate intrigue, danger, humor, alien family dynamics, surprises, and spice. An entertaining and delightful read. HEA.

4.5 stars. This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a steamy, office based, sci fi romantic comedy between Savannah, the female human Personal Assistant lead, and her new temporary boss, Stratos, the grumpy male alien Vice-President of design and innovation lead. I laughed at the banter between characters. I empathised with the hurt Savannah carried from her previous relationship and the pain Stratos’ family continued to cause. I enjoyed Savannah’s personal resilience and determination to succeed. I enjoyed Stratos’ relaxation and the emergence of new ideas. I enjoyed the building intimacy and the steamy intimate scenes. I enjoyed the non-romance plot and appreciated the fun and happy ending for the characters.

First I will say while I did enjoy I do have to make clear this has the feel of surface level of the genre. The plot and what spice there was truly a delightful treat. Its a good way to ease someone into alien romance. There's no weird male appendages. There's no bonds or bites. I'm assuming they are more humanoid in nature and it reflects in the writing. This easily could be dropped into a different genre with a few detail tweaks. There was nothing uniquely alien. As previously mentioned he's just a purple humanoid alien who's bald. The FMC had no qualms with dating and marrying an alien which I am not sure is a really good thing or mildly disconcerting. As I previously mentioned there's nothing wrong with the book itself it's just a little bland in the terms of alien romance. Lastly I received this as an arc and am reviewing under no obligation.
The first 2/3 of the book are fun, romantic, exciting. The last 1/3? Put on your seat belt because Cara Bristol forgot the brakes and wrote the best roller coaster HEA ever.
Savannah Mays is looking for a fresh start in Obertech - brand new job and planet.
Stratos is her new boss - famous for being grumpy, honestly too rude and goes through assistants like glasses of water in a hot summer.
What he did not count on is that she is grumpy herself, holds him accountable for his behaviour and she is the best assistant he has ever had.
The banter between these two, the internal jokes, the family drama, the betrayals (multiple), personal growth from karma - fantastic!
Hope you love it as much as I did.

Vice President Stratos of OberTech’s R&D division is brilliant and so creative that it is scary. But he us also not a people/ alien person so "please" and "thank you" is not in his vocab. Because his PA is on a two year gestation pregnancy he needs a new assistant. Savannah from earth. Sarcasm delt without thought that is blunt and to the point. Love this female already when she is truthful and insightful. But not wanting to repeat the same mistakes twice she stays focus. Stratos might be catching feeling for Savannah as their interactions seem to lead to a lot of batering and a rhythm he didn't expect. Loved the interactions and intergalactic descriptions of food and their AI systems. There are villians in this story. Good read.

I received an ARC from Booksprout, and I'm willingly leaving a review Good start to a new series You should know: dysfunctional family, criminal offenses, LGBTQ+ (said in passing and we don't see them together since they are planets apart for the moment). I have never seen family hate each other so much, to the point of the secret letter and the rest that followed; there was probably even more than that before and we don't know about it - yet. Aaia is funny, smart, efficient, and a great matchmaker; I saw her coming from afar! I found the buzzing markings on Stratos interesting. Stratos had a hidden sense of humor and it came out, thanks to the right person. I didn't like the guards at the entrance; they were so unprofessional and noisy; but now that I finished the book, was it because of Corona? Unless a miracle happens, there will be no love lost between MIL Frysta and Savannah. Stratos got the most tamed response to the most important question between a couple. LOL. The story contains many bedroom scenes, suspense, mystery, friendship, integrity even when times are hard. I had to step away for a few hours as Corona was affecting me in a bad sense.
This was an enjoyable story to read that's about Savannah Mays an executive assistant who's being blacklisted and fired for having a romantic relationship with her boss, though she's totally innocent since it was agreeable on both sides so she signs up with GAL Friday and gets assigned to Vice President Stratos of OberTech’s R&D division an exacting, demanding, and grumpy boss. Our characters are very likable, there's banter, snark, growls, and steamy chemistry among our couple. The story is engaging, well written, enjoyable and entertaining to read as I'd flipped the pages in this alien romance, I'd received a copy and volunteer to read and review. This was a first in what reads a promising enjoyable series.
Wow! Office politics to the nth degree! It seems like poor Stratos has put up with quite a lot of scheming from his mother and sister all his life. His mother has always wanted his sister to become CEO, although Stratos is clearly the most qualified for the job. Savannah ends up becoming embroiled in the family and office politics when she gets the job on Oberia through a temp agency. Stratos is such a grump, but every now and again his kind nature shines through, and he is easy to like. Savannah and Stratos take a while to act on their crushes, but then we get some steamy scenes. Fun characters, good writing and interesting world building make this an entertaining read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Savannah Mays is wrongfully fired and desperate for work. She joins GAL Friday and is assigned as assistant to VP Stratos at OberTech R&D. Stratos is a demanding jerk who’s burned through every previous assistant. But Savannah is different—brisk, no-nonsense, and unafraid to push back. She even organizes his chaos. Their rocky start turns electric after he takes her to a company event. Sparks fly, hearts get involved… until sabotage strikes. His cold mother and sister will stop at nothing to tear them apart. Twists, steam, heartbreak, and an unexpected ally (that AI isn’t what she seems) make this a rollercoaster read.

This alien workplace romance takes a slower approach to relationship development, allowing the connection between the characters to build over time rather than rushing into it. While the gradual pacing works well for the romance itself, the workplace setting introduces a noticeable power imbalance that can feel uncomfortable at times. This dynamic is present throughout the story and may not work for every reader. That said, the overall story is still engaging, and the romance develops in a believable way despite those challenges. Overall, a solid slow-burn romance, though the underlying power dynamic may affect how enjoyable it is depending on your preferences.

This was a wild series opener that has our gal, Savannah, fired for 'sexual harassment' of her boss when they were in what she thought was a relationship. He failed to mention his wife... With no real options, she applies to the Galactic Auxiliary Labor (GAL) temp agency. Getting assigned to Stratos, who definitely is growly and unpersonable, is great...until it's not ;P These two have such a fun and snarky repartee, I giggled throughout. I love how she held her own with him. Expect to be highly entertained with the drama, wit, bad guys, sabotage, family, chemistry and hot romance as these two work their way to a fab HEA. Good fun!
If this is the first in a series, I can't wait for the rest. So good. This is a full story with lots of real and rounded characters and lots of other elements to make this an entertaining page-turner. Hard working GAL Friday Savannah has a steel back bone and a soft heart. Stratos is stymied at every turn. He is hard working and expects his assistant to be like the AI he invented. I enjoyed all their interactions, both verbal and sexy. I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am leaving an honest review. Put aside a few hours where you will not be disturbed and fall into the world of GAL Friday.
“…his genius left no room in his brain for manners or personality.”
Stratos may not be a people person, but buried beneath his lack of conventional manners are some truly redeeming qualities.
Savannah wasn’t planning to start over on another planet, but sometimes life gives you lemons!
What I loved in this book was the consistency of certain characters. Some people are trusting, even when the universe tries to crush that part of them. Others are creative, even when life tries to suck all the inspiration out of their days. There is comfort in knowing honest people will remain honest, and that our instincts about others are worth trusting.
She took the job to survive. Falling for him could ruin them both.
The Elevator Pitch: After a brutal betrayal leaves a human assistant blacklisted and desperate, she takes a temporary job on an alien world working for a brilliant executive with no patience, no softness, and far too much control. Their daily war of wills turns dangerously intimate just as corporate sabotage closes in, forcing both of them to confront how much damage desire can do when trust is already broken. What begins as survival becomes a high-heat collision between power, pride, and the one person neither of them can afford to want.
Book 1 of the GAL Friday series. And a wonderful start it is! Look forward to more from this world.
'Grumpy Alien Boss (GAL Friday 1) is a steamy, witty sci-fi office romance packed with banter, heat, and a guaranteed happily ever after.'
The characters were very appealing and likeable and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!

OMG! I loved Savannah and Stratos. Savannah was snarky but fierce, a little too trusting but genuinely a good person. After being deceived, fired and black balled by her employer she takes a job with an intergalactic employment agency. As Executive Assistant she works for the VP of R&D. He’s a handsome alien with mass attitude, the boss from hell to be honest. But Savannah doesn’t take his rudeness lightly, snapping back as quickly as he dishes it out. It isn’t long before the two have all kinds of sexual tension but you’ll have to read the book to find out more. A great start to a new series.
There is a lot of attraction going on in this book. Stratos has a lot of grumpy attitude but he can not help himself as he finds his new assistant's snarky ways adorable. Savannah can not stand her boss at first but soon realizes the snarky banter soon turns to heat. There is a lot of spicy heat between them. Look out for sabotage, hatred between siblings, and a frosty mother CEO. Poor Savannah has a lot happen to her and yet still stays loyal to Stratos. I highly recommend this book to all alien romance readers.
