Strategic Management Dynamics

Rate this book
Award winning author Kim Warren presents his new book: Strategic Management Dynamics   - a complete framework in the field of Strategic Management. Strategic Management Dynamics builds on, and goes substantially beyond the existing strategy textbooks with its focus on understanding and managing how organisations perform over time. Based on simple but powerful underlying principles, the book both lays out a comprehensive approach to strategy analysis, design and delivery, and connects with established frameworks in the field. In Strategic Management Dynamics Kim Warren provides a valuable teaching resource, which can be used as a core textbook to bring strategy to life. With numerous examples from different sectors, the book is supported by a rich variety of simulation-based learning materials that are essential if strategy principles are to be experienced, rather than just discussed. For those who have already learned about strategy, this book provides an important update and extension of their knowledge. Key Features:

An ocean of insights is the best description for this book. A must-read for anyone interested in business (managers, consultants, researchers, students).

I really wanted to give this book 5 stars, but unfortunately I can't, although the idea of the book is worthy of attention.
The reason is banal, the didactic approach and organization of the book is horrible.

In many places the author jumps from topic to topic and distracts the reader with irrelevant details, which makes it very difficult to keep the focus.
Such an approach is justified for verbal presentation, but not for textual format.

The author often breaks the text and reading flow by putting different unconnected tables and text passages in between, which have nothing to do with the prior text part (Example on pages 68-72).
Because of that one has to either flip forward and then go back, or one is forced to stop reading the first text and needs to refocus his attention on the table which was put in between first, breaking by that the reading and logical flow.

This is pure horror, even a first grader would not make such a mistake.

Some texts aren't on the same page with the diagrams to which they refer and are positioned far away from them. Again, that totally destroys the reading flow if I am forced to flip back 20-30 pages, or did author expect that the reader will keep all of the details in his memory?

One must either reduce the text so that it fits on the same page with the table or diagram to which it refers, or one needs to duplicate them in the place where they are referred to, instead of sending the reader 500 pages backwards to the original one.

I certainly understand that our forests must be protected, but 10-15 additional pages for duplicated tables would save a lot of nerves to the reader who has to somehow put together all that textual mess.

My criticism is directed only towards the structure of the book, not to the content itself!
In terms of content, the book is very useful, but requires a serious revision of its structure.
