Snarky in the suburbs #2

Snarky in the Suburbs Trouble in Texas

Wynn Butler is ready to kill her mother . . . or at the very least demand she gets a psych evaluation and an MRI. On Wynn’s yearly pilgrimage to Trask, Texas, to visit her parents what she hoped would be a relaxing visit (not counting the family reunion which has all the charm of a zombie apocalypse) has turned into a Texas-sized, hot mess!

Her 69-year-old mother Gwynn Crockett Martin has become an entrepreneur and opened up a cupcake bakery that seems to be doing double duty as a halfway house for economically battered Junior League dropouts.

If that’s not enough to make Wynn want to turn tail and run home, her mom is hell bent on convincing her to “heed the call of Jesus” and come to the aid of a woman that made Wynn miserable in high school - Sara Beth Bishop. And by aid, Wynn’s mother means concoct a plan to exact epic revenge on Sara Beth’s lying, cheating, spray tanning, money stealing ex-husband and his new wife, snob-of-the-millennium, Yale Greenly.

Things go from bad to worse when Wynn finds herself embroiled in a scheme that involves breaking and entering, theft, assault, livestock wrangling, killer mold, impersonating a maid, hair spray bomb fabrication and crashing the town’s poshest society event of the year - THE Mohair Palace Pageant. If Wynn can survive this visit home without doing time in the ER, jail, or both, it will be a miracle!

Hang on to your hat and saddle up for a retribution rodeo or, as Wynn’s mom calls it . . . “justice served up Lone Star style.”

A book so Texas it makes me want to back comb my hair, spray it into submission, and head out looking for trouble. This rollicking good yarn is as tasty as the sweet revenge Wynn Butler lovingly dishes out to society snobs--with the help of her loyal band of entertaining misfits. I can hardly wait to ride shotgun on Wynn’s next adventure.

Another fun Snarky Read.

This book, kept me, laughing and smiling throughout. The characters were all very different but meshed together so well. The story was well written and kept me guessing what would happen next.

a must for every Texas woman

You’ll see yourself in the badass ladies, see your family in the reunion and see your arch nemesis in the ladies of the pageant. Fantastic read that both my daughter and I devoured in non stop reading laughter combination. Grab a Diet Coke and enjoy the adventure!

Trouble in Texas

What a delightful book. Having lived in Texas ao one time, I appreciated the Texasisms. There were so many laugh out loud moments as well as doing good and caring for other moments in the book.
I look forward to reading the other "Anarky" books.

Love

Again this isn't my normal genre but I'm really liking this series by Sherry. Wynn and Allison are in Texas for vacation and Wynn's mother gets them involved in an adventure. On to the next book.

This was such a fun, light read. Being from Texas, I could relate to so many of the things being said—and some of the things made me laugh out loud. Definitely the kind of book you toss in your beach bag and just enjoy. A perfect little escape!

I've followed Snarky in the Suburbs for years. What she is good at--skewering the most pretentious and ridiculous in upper-middle-class suburbia, especially suburban women--she is very, very good at. Her plotting is as intricate as her alter-ego's revenge plans. And it goes without saying that she is very, very funny.

What she could improve upon, and what caused me to drop a star in rating, is copy-editing. Punctuation in particular (hey look, alliteration). Yes, I'm a grammar "enthusiast" (sounds so much better than "grammar nazi", don't you think?) and the many, many grammatical and punctuation errors make me wince. I can't help it, they just do.

For really a small, nominal fee, I would be more than happy--actually, ecstatic--to take on the job before the next book goes to print. Call me, Sherry!

This was a Goodreads win. This is entertaining and the author is very witty. It's about a woman who opens a cupcake shop which is quite successful. Her daughter comes to spend some time with her during the summer and is put to work. The author describes Texas well with it's oppressive heat and residents who think there is nothing that compares with their state. I enjoyed the humor.
