I was given this arc to read from the author and this is my opinion.
If you like:
• Mafia
• Enemies to lovers
• Kidnapping
• "Hate that I want you" vibes
Then this book is just what you want to read. This book pulls you in with a vengeance. This story has danger lurking everywhere, you see both sides of war. I will always say you need to listen to the woman and go with what she says. Everyone needs to definitely read this series with starting with Fling of hearts.

I love when there’s action right off the bat in a story, and that’s what happens with the Duchess of Debits. The story is Book 3 of Victoria Jayne’s Dixie Mafia Series, which can be read as a standalone.

Niall is responsible for shooting her cousin, and she finds herself kidnapped by Niall’s men.

For age gap lovers, he’s 48, and she’s a 32-year-old curvy girl full of sass. I love how Victoria throws in a bit of humor in this one, as Amy ends up being the pickiest kidnapping victim. The chemistry between Amy and Niall is off the charts, and the steamy scenes show that. Readers should expect a bit of drama, but there’s a sweet HEA.

Thank you to Victoria Jayne for the gifted e-copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I'm going to point out some things that I truly liked about this book before getting into my honest review that includes some of my disappointment with this story.

Firstly, Amy. She's a riot and I enjoyed the fact that she is not "in" the mafia, but she balances all the books and keeps everything above board for her family. It's an interesting take that we don't normally see in a mafia romance, and I wish that it was explored further. She's also hilarious, her internal monologue is funny and raw, she isn't afraid to bite back and she's tough.

The writing was done well, but unfortunately those are the only things I particularly liked about this book.

Starting from the beginning we find out that Amy is part of a newer mafia called Dixie, and Niall is from one of the oldest mobs, which are the Irish. Her cousin messed with the production because of a girl (Paul has his own book with more information) that resulted in the death of Niall's nephew, and now they are out for blood. His sons, Eion and Aiden, barely of legal age are sent to kill Paul and they accidentally hit Eddie, his brother, instead. Amy happened to be with him and the boys panicked and took her with them, effectively kidnapping her.

This is where we go downhill. We meet Niall and he immediately seems awful. We find out that he wasn't supposed to be the head of the mob but his cousin, James, had a breakdown and couldn't do it. His sons call him and we get an internal dialogue that lasts the entirety of the book about how soft his sons are and how he coddled them too much and they need to be tougher. Mind you, Eion is still underage with Aiden only having just turned 18. I know this is the mafia, but it's a constant thing and then we're supposed to believe that he loves his children when every single step of the way he criticizes them internally and externally? Also, in the entire book Amy has maybe one or two interactions with Eion, and a one-sided conversation with Aiden and that’s it. They brought nothing to the development of the plot, and if they weren’t included it would have been the same story.
Moving on, Niall was extremely unlikeable. The moment he laid eyes on Amy he wanted her and after throwing her in a makeshift cage he continues to come and see her for the rest of the first day and then just allows her to go upstairs. The next morning she comes in wearing his clothes because hers had blood on them and he immediately flips in his head and starts complaining that she is too comfortable and she needs to go back to the cell. She goes back, then he takes her out again and lets her watch a movie with him while he has a fleeting thought about his dead wife that died two years ago (I’d also like to mention that when Amy talks with Eion he claims she “died a long time ago”. It’s inconsistent and we actually have no idea when she died) and then thinks about how hot Amy is.

They start having a conversation and she basically word vomits out a plan that includes keeping her longer and getting the Dixie mafia to team up with them to take out the Columbians. He gets upset because it’s not his plan and then he puts her back in the cell. After going over the plan and taunting Joseph (who is Eddie and Paul’s father) while Eddie was getting his spleen removed, they agree to meet to go over this plan. Niall comes home, gets Amy out of her cell, they drink and then end up having sex.

When it was over she kept thinking about how betrayed her family would be and then Niall takes her upstairs to cuddle. A few more things happen, Niall meets with her family and they agree to the plan in exchange for Amy and then, randomly, we find out that they are hitting the Columbians twice and Aiden gets shot. After Niall saves him on the kitchen table, Amy suggests that he go to the FEDs and end this entire war once and for all, for the sake of his children. He flys into a blind rage and pulls her out of the house, calling her father to tell him she’s coming home early. Amy tries, barely, to explain herself but then just shuts down (which is a huge thing in this book) and when they pull up Niall is upset that she’s leaving (WHAT) and holds her hand and then she leaves.
Amy sobs and becomes basically comatose while her brothers (Mikey & Sam) look on helplessly. The next night Niall, along with Paul and the Dixie mafia storm the head Columbians home and once Niall kills the Don, he turns around to see Paul with an ice pick in his hand (apparently his weapon of choice) BUT then at the end of the chapter we hear “pop” “pop”. Amy’s POV reveals that she found out about Paul wanting to kill Niall and tries to call the hit off, with Mikey and Sam taking her to where they are. We find out that Niall was shot multiple times in his side and he’s at a farm recovering. My biggest issue is the inconsistency of the ice pick vs. gun. He was holding an ice pick, ready to kill him, where’d the gun come from?

Niall ends up recovering and Amy convinces her family to let her take him home. They go back to the cabin and he sits down and opens his arms for her. He then tells everyone he’s retiring. The entire time, ENTIRE time of the book he talks about how he has to return his family to their former glory and how nobody is able to take over the reigns and how his own sons won’t be able to take over because they aren’t disciplined enough. He tells James to take over for him and he agrees. Amy takes him to bed where she see’s a picture of his dead wife and asks if he misses her, he responds with “not anymore”, then proceeds to tell her he loves her. We find out in this whole interaction that she’s been with him for about one and a half weeks, WEEKS. The epilogue is them trying to find a new house and Amy goes back to work for her dad and that’s it. No mention of the children, no mention of either of their families, nothing.

Final Thoughts: I wanted so badly to like this book. A lot of characters were introduced and then nothing happened with them. Killian was introduced as James’s son and it set him up to be this ruthless badass who was suspicious of Amy, and then he never spoke and nothing happened. There was no villain, and barely any conflict. The inconsistencies were hard to push through and their relationship felt weird and extremely rushed. This truly had the opportunity to be something more, and while I did like certain aspects of this, it just fell flat for me.

I’m going to start by saying that I love Amy. She is probably my favorite character of the series so far. She is smart and funny. Amy knows how to put on a brave face while totally spiraling in her head. She’s in a precarious situation, knows next to nothing about the people who kidnapped her, and thinks her cousin has been killed right in front of her. The woman has had a very bad day. I love that she would start to panic and then figuratively slap herself out of it. Her family may be the Dixie Mafia, but she’s been kept relatively safe and out of the nitty-gritty of that life.

Niall was a lot harder to come to like. He is the head of the Irish mob, not by choice, but by circumstance. He’s had tragedy in his life and has been living on autopilot for way too long. I feel like the Niall who began the book was a different Niall by the end. That wasn’t through character growth, though he does have a little bit of that. It’s hard to explain, but he was a tough nut to crack.

This story got a bit convoluted with how Amy and Niall would get out of their sticky situations, yet it all made sense in the end. The couple has instant chemistry, although that is the worst thing for both of them. It keeps things interesting and leads to the softer side of Niall being shown, which was what I liked. The moments Amy and Niall had alone, when she wasn’t scared, and he just wanted to take care of her, were lovely.

I wasn’t a fan of the things Niall wanted his kids to do. And, although one was of legal age, they are very much kids. I get that it’s the life they lead, but it bothered me. Especially because they were both obviously not cut out for the life, and they were all Niall had left after losing his wife. That explained the “coddling” he did with them. But that he wanted to change that and “toughen them up” bothered me. I wish they had been older and had made the choice themselves. Which, to be fair, does come up eventually with Amy, who has a soft heart for the kids who kidnapped her.

I think that once Niall admits to himself that he let his ego get the best of him, that’s when I started liking the man. It also helped me to see why mafia romance isn’t exactly my cup of tea. The back and forth that, quite frankly, comes down to men being egotistical idiots. When Niall was able to admit that to himself, it helped me to find him a more sympathetic character.

For all that, I did like the HEA that Amy and Niall were given. So many times, the couple will find their love with one another, but still be stuck in the rut of the mob family life. There is a nice compromise this couple has that I found much more enjoyable than Niall being stuck with a job he hates and Amy going along for the ride because she loves him.

3.5stars-DUCHESS OF DEBITS is the third instalment in Victoria Jayne’s contemporary, adult DIXIE MAFIA erotic, crime world romance series. This is fifty-eight year old, Irish syndicate leader Niall Doherty, and thirty two year old accountant Amy Kirk’s story line. DUCHESS OF DEBITS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Niall and Amy) DUCHESS OF DEBITS follows in the wake of the abduction of our story line heroine. Having witnessed the attempted murder of her cousin Eddie, Amy finds herself the unwanted captive of the Irish Syndicate. Held hostage as Niall Doherty struggles in the face of what to do, Amy offers up an idea, an idea that could benefit the Dixie Mafia, and the Irish Syndicate but all does not go according to plan when the Bratva get involved, and her family demand retribution for the shooting of her cousin.

The world building is fast and furious as Amy finds herself a prisoner of the man with whom she will fall in love. Niall is battling between head and heart, tired of the fighting and the war between crime world factions, and in this, our hero is willing to sacrifice for the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Amy and Niall begins as captive and jailer but an accidental jailer in the wake of Amy witnessing a crime. Niall is struggling with his attraction to a woman twenty-five years younger, a woman who is willing to make a deal to save all of their lives. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include both Amy and Niall’s extended families We are introduced to Niall’s sons Aidan and Eoin; Niall’s cousin James, as well as Amy’s father Michael, and her cousins Paul and Eddie, and brother Mikey and Sam.

DUCHESS OF DEBITS is a story of power and control, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is character driven, entertaining and dramatic but the buildup is perplexing, and I felt there was too much information missing ; the age-gap romance is limited but subtle, yet the developing relationship is somewhat thorny- Niall’s hot and cold was disconcerting; the characters are desperate and determined.

A Ruthless Man, A Reluctant Queen, and a Love That Burns Like War

This book? It doesn’t just pull you in—it kidnaps you, throws you over a shoulder, and dares you to enjoy the ride.

Duchess of Debits is the kind of story where danger hums beneath every glance, and love feels like striking a match in a room full of gasoline.

Amy Kirk is everything I love in a heroine: sharp, observant, and quietly powerful. She’s not swinging weapons or making dramatic speeches—she’s balancing books and reading people like profit margins, and somehow that makes her even more formidable. Watching her go from “invisible accountant” to a woman who can hold her own against a mafia king? Delicious.

And Niall Doherty… this man is carved out of vengeance and bad decisions, wrapped in authority, and dipped in temptation. He’s ruthless, calculating, and absolutely not planning to fall for the woman he kidnapped—which, of course, makes it inevitable. The age gap? The enemy lines? The emotional walls? All of it adds this slow, simmering tension that feels like a pot just waiting to boil over.

The chemistry here is a slow burn that hurts so good. Every interaction is layered—power plays, unspoken attraction, and that constant question of “are they going to kiss or kill each other?” (sometimes both, honestly).

What really elevates this story is the emotional stakes. This isn’t just romance—it’s loyalty vs. desire, family vs. freedom, survival vs. surrender. Every choice feels like it could detonate something bigger.

And when the steam hits? Let’s just say… the tension doesn’t go to waste. 🔥

Tropes you’ll devour:
• Enemies to lovers (with teeth)
• Age gap
• Kidnapped heroine
• Morally gray mafia king
• Slow burn → explosive payoff

Final verdict:
A gritty, addictive mafia romance where love is the most dangerous gamble of all. If you like your romance with sharp edges, high stakes, and a hero who would burn the world down but hesitates for her… this one’s already got your name on it.

Duchess of Debits is a great addition to Victoria Jayne’s Dixie Mafia series, delivering exactly what the blurb promises…. enemies to lovers, age gap, kidnapping, slow burn mafia romance with plenty of steam. 😜

Amy Kirk is the “invisible” accountant daughter in a Southern syndicate family, she’s smart, detail oriented, and content with her spreadsheets, until she’s yanked into the rival Irish mafia’s orbit. 😮

Niall Doherty is the vengeful, older leader out for blood after losing his nephew, willing to do whatever it takes to stabilize his crumbling organization.

Their collision is classic, she’s the hostage who wasn’t supposed to be tempting, he’s the ruthless captor who didn’t count on her sharp mind and quiet strength complicating his revenge. ❤️ Don’t you just hate it when that happens? 😝

Letting the attraction build amid distrust, the power imbalances, and moral conflicts was just great. The “twice her age” gap and enemy status added friction. Amy’s resistance and Niall’s internal war between vengeance and growing feelings had me turning those kindle pages.

Amy isn’t a typical shrinking violet captive, her cunning and savvy skills play into the plot. Niall is suitably intense and commanding without losing depth. The chemistry is steamy once it ignites.

It is book 3 in the series, it stands alone reasonably well but continues to build on the Dixie Mafia world.

If you enjoy stories where the road to “us against the world” is paved with suspicion, heat, and hard choices, this one delivers. Run (don’t walk) if the blurb already has you hooked, especially if you’ve been following the Dixie Mafia series.

Looking forward to seeing how the larger syndicate stories play out in future books!

Quick, short, and sweet read.

Niall and Amy are everything, they fit perfectly. Honestly, i never saw it coming. They fell so fast and hard for each other that it left me stunned. Their attraction and chemistry was chef's kiss.

Amy is Niall's forbidden temptation and he can't seem to keep away from her. The circumstance that brought them together make them question their morals about staying with each other, but their growing love overcomes their uncertainty and dilemma.

Now i love Niall so much. He's a badass mafia leader but still sweet, soft, and adorable. I loved how he's caring and amazing towards his sons who are also adorable especially Eion.

Niall claims he's not romantic but...
“No one is this romantic in real life, Duchess.”
Says the man who kept himself hairless for his passed wife because she liked it and left it that way in her memory.

Amy is smart, sweet and strong. She literally keeps her family's mafia running and can stand up for herself when she needs to. She's also everything Niall needs. She's fun, I loved moments when she would freak herself out😂.

Amazing read for dark mafia romance lovers who enjoys 10yrs+ age gap romance.

You should always listen to the women; they have the best ideas!

The cliffhanger from book two was replayed from Amy, the FMC's perspective, to begin this book, so if you missed book two, you get to have your heart ripped again. Or not. You should read the book to find out how that played out. But in witnessing what she did, Amy was taken by the Irish until they figured out what to do with her. Niall, the head of the Irish, didn't want prisoners but also saw that Amy could be leverage. Amy had the perfect plan - if only Niall would let her out of the cell he was keeping her in. It seems like it all goes to plan until Amy's family doesn't go with it and decides to take out the Irish for good. So where does that leave Amy and Niall?

With their happy ending, of course, in this standalone book in the Dixie Mafia series.

I loved that Amy could see things that none of the men in either syndicate could or would, and worked to make sure that they could get what they wanted. Though she probably should have mentioned it to her father or uncle once she was returned, rather than trust them to do the right thing. I do wonder what Amy's family thought of her getting into a relationship with the former head of the Irish, and one old enough to be her father. I could see the first being an issue for her father and the second more so, maybe, for her mother and brothers. I do wonder if this is the end of the Dixie Mafia series, or if it will continue with Amy's brothers now that we've switched families. Though there does seem to be some peace at the moment.

The emotional roller coaster that I was on from the Prince of Clubs cliffhanger lasted well into this book. I still feel like I need an update on him, thank you very much. *Heavy sigh*

But onto Duchess of Debits...I love that Amy becomes Duchess to him and watching that clusterfuck unfold was delightful. Paul be cray cray but we love him however in this book I was split with my feelings towards him.

In this book you see both sides of the war but they definitely had me rolling my eyes and saying "ugh...men"

Also that scene, you know which one I'm talking about...was 🥵

I look forward to reading whatever comes next. *Cough cough* There better be updates on all of them.

So if you like:
•Mafia
•Enemies to lovers
•Kidnapping
•"Hate that I want you" vibes

You should definitely give this book a read but I'd start with Fling of Hearts to help build the world, characters and history.

I am officially hooked on this series. Every couple’s story manages to feel real and grounded, even with the fast-paced romances—and that’s not easy to pull off.

Amy and Niall completely stole the show for me. Their dynamic is effortlessly funny, built on a situation neither of them planned for, yet somehow they make it work in the most unexpected way. Amy is a confident, curvy woman who isn’t searching for love, and Niall? An older Irish mafia king who has long since closed that chapter of his life after losing his wife. Watching those two collide was equal parts chaotic and heartwarming.

What starts as a practical arrangement quickly turns into something deeper. Forced into close proximity, they lean on each other while navigating challenges that impact both their families—and that emotional connection really shines through.

I loved every bit of their story. And now I’m impatiently waiting… can we please get Sam’s book next?

ARC REVIEW

Alright, I’m gonna start by saying, Amy, I love you. You’re a freaking goddess and so fucking smart, and I love that she is so logical even in the face of fear and the unknown! Now, Niall……he’s an asshole and admits that he is one, so it takes me a bit to see the other side of him. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love an asshole, but he’s just a little bit extra.

I love the fact that both these MCs are older. Like, thank you for not having barely 20-year-olds. We need more older MCs doing shit! Although we might break a hip 😆! Anyway, I’m glad I got some answers from the previous books in this one and a bit more of a look into the Dixie Mafia family. (Please tell me we get some more time with Killian? Cause he has definitely caught my interest! 😉)

If you like mafia romances, then definitely check out this series. Find out how all this started with Paul’s story in Queen of Blades. There’s also a prequel novella, Fling of Hearts, for those who want to know more about Paul.

let me tell ya what....I love a Victoria Jayne book.

They're quick, fun, and just an overall good time..There is always just a hint of danger and so you're on the edge of your seat a bit through the whole book.

I was SO grateful that we got an update on Eddie after the ending of Prince of Clubs! Whew, I was stressed.

Amy and Niall were such a fun couple. The age gap WORKS, just trust it. Amy is general was just fun, id read a whole book on her doing math. Because I'm sure she'd have an opinion on it.

Looking for a good time? Go read Duchess of Debits.

overall: highly recommend

It was great to be back with the Dixie Mafia. We pick up where the last book left off, leaving Amy in the parking lot as a witness, taken as a hostage. Niall is after revenge for his nephew but wasn’t expecting the woman locked up in his house. Both of them can’t decide what they think of the situation, other than they both are attracted to the other but know they shouldn’t. Amy is just the accountant for the Dixie mafia, in it but not really in it, and Niall is the leader of the Irish mafia by default. If you like age gap, sassy fmc and spice, you’ll enjoy this book. I look forward to what is next from Victoria Jayne.

Niall + Amy

Duchess of Debits is a fast paced dark romance mafia-esque novel. Right from the beginning we've got Amy (who I love as a character) & her uncle Eddie.. then BOOM action. With so many twists and turns Duchess of Debits will keep you entertained. Niall is like an m&m hard on the outside and melted chocolate on the inside when it comes to Amy. Amy's character is smart, beautiful and thoughtful.. I really loved her character arc. I do wish the characters had been developed a little more. The interactions felt surface level. There were some that dug deep and others that brushed over the surface.

The only thing hindering from a 5 star review is the language was a bit repetitive in some scenarios.

The story has pain, kidnapping, secrets, and suspense.

This is Amy and Niall’s story. Amy is the bookkeeper for her family. When she is in the wrong place and witnesses something she is kidnapped. She is taken to Niall, and he has to figure out what to do with her. With them being in different mob families he needs to figure out something fast. She has plans and wants the family to work together but can they do that? You get a lot of back and forth with a cage involved. After all she is still a prisoner of his. Everything was rushed and felt off. I could not connect with Niall as he was a jerk and seemed very wishy washy.

Mafia, Enemies to lovers, kidnapping, hate that I want you vibes are a few of my favorite things and this book has all of these. The book is full of tension, suspense, and danger. Amy is smart, funny, trying to be brave but she’s spiraling. She’s been kidnapped and doesn’t know why. Niall is the head of the Irish mob by circumstance. He isn’t very likable but has a redeeming quality that he makes Amy feel safe and he wants to take care of her. They did have get a HEA. Overall, this wasn’t my favorite story even though I love the tropes. I think the execution was a little convoluted and not as polished as it should be. 3.5 stars.

If your looking for a fast paced, action packed mafia romance than this is for you. The FMC, Amy, is a sassy girl with a great inner monologue, the MMC Niall is a grumpy ass. As I stated, lots of action from the very beginning. This is part of a series but it is not entirely necessary to read the other books beforehand. I enjoyed reading this and look forward to more from this author! Thank you for the gifted ebook!

Amy was just doing her job when all hell broke lose. She's kidnapped and in a bad situation. So she's wondering why they didn't just shoot her. Then Niall steps in and things and feelings begin to change. However, she shouldn't be falling for the enemy of the Dixie Mafia. Lots of twists to this story that will keep you reading to the end.

I love this series. They way the author connects the characters together with plot twists galore. You never know which characters will get together. Sometimes I think it will be one set, but then she flips it on me and the connection changes.
The ending felt a little too predictable, but I still loved the book.
