It was supposed to be a simple birthday dinner to celebrate Evelyn Whitmore, but that isn't how things turned out. The family was warned to move the dinner to a different location, but nobody listened. Find out what happens when the family ignore the signs.
I liked the Friday the 13th premise. I also enjoyed the multiple perspectives a lot. What I thought this was leaning in the direction of at times was the house being haunted as there were a couple characters who had experienced that either were supernatural or they said the house was haunted but that disappeared.
I wanted Evelyn to get more screen time because she was built up and the real glue between everyone, but she came in late and had little to say after and then she was gone. Also, there were way too many characters for a book this short, nobody really got developed and it was hard to keep track of who was who which ending up mattering when it came to the party, the deaths, and the will reading. I especially wish that Lorraine had been developed more.

This narrative grabbed my attention and had me turning those pages and guessing the outcome from start to finish. The plot thickens when you are introduced to some wide-ranging personalities where money and appearances matter. Thomas Whitmore, a successful building contractor, is planning a dinner birthday party for his mother, Evelyn Whitmore, a powerful and wealthy matriarch but things are about to make a sudden turn, exposing some family discords, twists and turns, secrets and lies, payback, eerie forewarnings, snobbery, gluttony and the abuse of money, wealth, and power, leading up to an ending that will leave you stunned.
Linette knows how to make a great short read into something crazy! I am loving it. It was an unforgettable day for Nathan. Friday the 13th is one of those days when people are more superstitious about everything. Nathan played himself at the end of the day.
