I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy and quick listen (audiobook). I think all the concepts in here can be used not just in the case of porn but many other disciplines. I truly believe everyone could learn something from this book. It was a free audiobook on Spotify so highly recommend!
A simple book that does a good job of explaining the biological/neurological side of porn addiction. It seeks to bring clarity to this particular issue through a biological lens, and I appreciated its encouraging and hopeful tone for recovery based in that approach. There are biblical undertones to this book that aim to connect our biological understandings to the truths outlined in scripture, but it is worth noting that is as far as the book goes into the spiritual side of things. Short and simple. Nothing extraordinary but practical and applicable.
This is a great, short explanation on the science behind the brain’s response and learned behavior relating to porn use. Definitely a misunderstood and dismissed fact that we are hardwiring our brains and neural pathways when we watch porn, and it takes much longer to get over than the simple advice of “stop watching.” I loved the scriptural wisdom tie ins throughout.
I think this should act like a primer, and be a first read or used in helping people understand why they can’t just stop on willpower. Highly recommend it and use it to keep the conversation going.
Quick listen on Spotify. I thought it was well done and really has intrigued me to learn more about neuroscience to better understand what we want what we want and do what we do.
A lot of what was described can be applicable to things other then porn and has me taking inventory on my own life and adjustments I can make. I was particularly insightful to get the perspective on how current society has contributed to reworking our brains on rewards. Looking forward to shifting to maintaining a pursuit towards effort based rewards rather than quick easy wins various life domains.
Popped up on Spotify and seemed interesting as a concept. I don’t have a problem with pron but the key themes apply to all dopamine sources. We as a society have an attention problem and this book discusses ways to retrain your brain to single minded focus and delayed gratification. Decent reminder about some common sense ideas with a bible thumping undercurrent. Also, first go for an AI narrator and overall not a fan even though I get the convenience.
This audiobook randomly came up on my Spotify, and I thought the title was interesting & funny so I gave it a listen. The advice is decent and discusses the dangers of novelty & mindless dopamine fixes. Not a bad listen, and a reminder that discipline is made stronger using systems and refraining from excess social media consumption etc.
Felt like it was written by AI. I don’t think anything it said was wrong…. I thought that was all fine. I just idk didn’t love it and probably wouldn’t recommend it to people. Also thought it would be more about the brain and less on how to stop watching porn, but that’s my bad.
I really enjoyed this short book! Almost would give it 5 stars, he also mentions social media/scrolling and how it ties into his argument of dopamine being “the chemical of pursuit.”
