Rate this book
How do you catch a killer with no pattern—except gender?

Jacob Marley is an ex-Marine, former cop, and now the chief crime reporter at The Herald, the city’s largest newspaper. With trusted contacts on both sides of the law, Marley has access no one else does—and a front-row seat to a brutal series of murders that defy logic.

The victims appear to have nothing in common. Different ages. Different backgrounds. Different lives. The only link is their gender.

When Marley coins the name “Six Degrees” in the press, he ignites a city-wide manhunt—and unknowingly invites the killer into the spotlight. As the body count rises and the media frenzy grows, Marley finds himself drawn deeper into the investigation, blurring the line between observer and participant.

But the more Marley uncovers, the clearer it becomes that this killer isn’t hiding.

He’s watching.

And as the chase tightens, one question refuses to go

Who is really hunting who?

Six Life and Death is the first novel in the Jacob Marley Crime Thriller Series, where every case pulls Marley closer to the darkness he thought he’d left behind—and every story risks becoming his last.

Six Degrees: Life and Death is a thrilling novel, with jaw-dropping twists and a universe that so expansive that you’re invested in every single multi-dimensional character George Davis introduces.

Our protagonist, Jacob Marley, is remarkably well-written, with the witty narrator providing not just a hero to root for, but a mysterious individual who oozes an undercurrent of dark energy, which the author slowly peels back, to reveal exactly whom we’re dealing with.

While Marley is the star for the bulk of the action, the book shifts perspectives. When this concept was introduced, I felt somewhat disappointed, merely because of how much I was enjoying the wise-cracking narration of our favourite marine turned journalist. However, this works beautifully well to not just fill in the blanks, but also to make for a far richer reading experience, with side characters rising to prominence to drag us into their respective stories.

The mystery of the Six Degrees Killer is enthralling, and undeniably had me guessing from page to page, trying to solve the mystery before the final reveal.

Before the story begins, Davis sets the readers the task of determining by the end of the book, whether good or evil had emerged victorious.

For me, it’s good, but ultimately, it’s up to all of you to read yourselves and make up your own mind.

Kept me guessing til the last page!!

I was hooked from the start and kept guessing until the very last page. The multiple perspectives made the story so engaging and kept the tension high throughout. Marley was a standout character, and the writing style made this impossible to put down. A gripping crime thriller with twists that actually work. I cannot wait for the second book!

This was one of those thrillers that’s very hard to put down. The suspense builds brilliantly, with the story unfolding through several viewpoints that keep you constantly questioning what’s really going on. Marley was a particularly compelling character who really stood out for me. Just when you think you’ve worked things out, another twist appears. A tense, well-written crime story that keeps you hooked until the very end — I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series.

A gritty thriller.

George Davis pulls no punches with this gritty thriller. A likeable but imperfect hero. A body count that keeps rising. A selection of villains who may or may not be the killer. A bit of a twist that, in its way, results in a satisfying ending that promises more in book number two. Well done!
