He didn’t think he was capable of love; she thought she had everything she ever needed. But when former ballet dancer and entrepreneur Natalie Smith and environmentalist Michael Black meet, they are thrust into a headlong relationship that may devastate them both.
Falling almost too fast for this enigmatic, controlling man, Natalie is both excited and terrified by the fine line Michael walks between his dark and light side, as he introduces her to a world of games, bondage, and punishments. And to her surprise, she likes her submission. She likes the control he wields. And he cannot have it any other way. He likes to bring Natalie to the edge, and she likes the edge he brings her to. Pleasure has never felt so good.
But can Michael fully let go of his trust issues and fall in love? Or will his past leave Natalie on the edge of pain?
R.B. O’Brien has always been drawn to the more taboo side of storytelling, even as a young adult, from hiding books from strict Catholic parents as a teen to getting lost in the erotic sections of bookstores for hours.

Much of O'Brien's work explores the darker, sensual nature of relationships, those riddled with the reality of insecurities and human folly, often exposing the vulnerability, emotional turmoil, and occasional pain that can come from losing oneself in the heat of passion and the obstacles of love.

Have you ever been around a complete stranger and suddenly felt completely captivated or drawn in like a fish on an invisible hook? Our story starts with complete strangers meeting in an elevator with very strong sexual tension oozing out of both Michael and Natalie. We're off to a great start but we find out that Natalie has a live-in boyfriend who works long hours and has a sexy boss that has made it no secret, she has a mega crush on Natalie's man. Then Natalie is unapologetically flirty with the domineering Michael. I can immediately see where this is going. I've read books with cheaters. Although I don't like cheaters, I do understand that its sometimes necessary for the story development, so I get it. This is one of those stories so I won't focus on that part of the story too much.
There were some funny moments in here. Like Natalie secretly hoping that broccoli chunks get stuck in some bitches mouth or needing more cow bell. It was just so out of the blue that it struck my funny bone pretty hard.
The sexual tension was palpable and I really liked it. However, Im the one who needed release. Tension is good but I felt so bad for Natalie at times when she couldn't get what she craved and needed. I know... I get it.... Hes the one in control and she was being punished. Im just saying that when that girl did orgasm, Im pretty sure I felt that all the way out here in Kansas.
Natalie's insistent internal dialogue is dry humping my last nerve. There was just a lot of back and forth and back and forth and back and forth... OH and did I say, back and forth? Yes. A lot of back and forth.
Games, Michael and his games. Games are fun especially with Michael but who wants to play with someone who always insists on winning and acting like such a sore loser.
And then this...
Then we come to one of my hard limits. Well, maybe a semi-hard limit really because I can handle a little food with some sexy scenes. For example a little cupcake icing on the nipple and then put the fucking cupcake away because, for me, that is nasty! I just can't do it. This one scene made me cringe. It wasn't a small scene either. It went on and on and on like the Energizer Bunny. Honestly, all I can picture is if you get hair in it and end up with a yeast infection. I know some people like this and that is okay. Its definitely not for me though.
Okay. Let's talk about Natalie. She is supposed to be this strong, independent woman, a feminist in College and currently owns and runs a business she and her BFF built. But she is quickly reduced to a begging, cry baby that has fallen deeply and unequivocally in love with this practical stranger. Call it what it is. Lust. I feel that she lets Michael walk all over her. I know, I know... these are new feelings to her and she isn't sure how to process them or understand them. I get it.
Now Michael. He's strong, smart, independent, domineering and always seems in control. There were times where I wanted to scream at him and tell him to stop being a hypocrite. The games is the part that really irritated me. Games are supposed to be fun but there is always that one kid who takes things too seriously and makes it not fun for anyone else. Michael is that kid.
I will say that I thought the writing was really good and everything flowed well for me. I had my ups and downs with this, but for sure my ups were when Michael and Natalie were together. Made me squeeze my legs together. Like I've already said, the sexual tension is palpable and there were times where I wanted to smack Michael in the back of the head and just give that girl and orgasm! I think he got off on torturing himself. I am very curious about his past and his trust issues.
Overall, it was just okay for me. There were some things I liked and some that I didn't... ahem FOOD . But hey... to each their own right? The sex and sexual tension were sublime. The writing was really good. Natalie and Michael were just sort of in the middle of the road for me. I think I liked Michael more than I liked Natalie. I guess I wanted Natalie to be stronger emotionally. There are a lot of really good reviews out about this and for the most part, I agree with what they say. For myself.. I hope the next one is better. :)
Wow! This extremely well-written erotic novel puts 50 Shades of Grey to shame. On the surface, the components of the story seem familiar - a naïve young woman meets a rich, slightly older man with emotional issues, who introduces her to the painful joys of BDSM but R.B. O'Brien takes the story to a whole other level. As Natalie slowly falls under the spell of Michael who sexually and emotionally torments her almost mercilessly, the reader goes along on her journey. Natalie's instant attraction to Michael causes her to fall into an almost drug addicted state in which she craves his presence and feels real emotional pain when he is not there. Any one who remembers what it was like to be swept away uncontrollably by a hormonal impulse even when your mind knew it was crazy will understand Natalie's actions. The erotic scenes are incredibly intense as R.B. is skilled at conveying excruciatingly hot and extended foreplay through the vivid pictures his words paint. The dinner/punishment scene that Natalie must undergo for lying to Michael about her relationship with Scott was unbelievably hot as was the erotic punishment/arousal scene in the movie theatre. I will never think about Rosemary's Baby in quite the same way after this. Michael is a flawed human being who does delight in tormenting Natalie almost as cat plays with a mouse. There are times when Natalie accuses him of being mean to her and she is absolutely right. However, there is clearly the potential for Michael to grow into a better human being with Natalie as his impetus for change. The BDSM scenes are intense so this story is not meant for those who prefer more vanilla fare in their erotica. Overall, this is an excellent erotic novel and I will definitely be reading more by R.B. O'Brien.

Unfortunately, it seems I am in the minority on this one. I’ll try to explain why.
The story: The story itself was ok. I was interested in reading a m/f story with a sexy alpha male and strong female character. Things heat up very quickly for Natalie and Michael when they meet in the elevator of their building. Michael is very mysterious and uses his charms to lure Natalie in. It works, and she is craving everything Michael in short order. Well, almost everything, but she doesn’t put up much of a fight against the things she doesn’t like.
The characters: Here is where I had the most trouble. I really didn’t like Michael all that much. There were times when he was super sexy, spewing sexual tension like a sprinkler on high speed. But, most of the time, he was a pushy, way-too-controlling, borderline jerk. He had trust issues, but he was a contradiction. He was often self-centered and egotistic, yet he was devoted to saving the environment and was completely against infidelity. Often, his ways of “teaching Natalie lessons” were downright cruel, and I wanted her to wake up and smell the coffee.
As for Natalie, I just didn’t really connect with her. She realizes what is missing in her life and current relationship once she meets Michael. After she gets things straightened out and is able to convince Michael to move forward, she basically becomes a doormat and a slave to the feelings Michael can make her feel.
The writing: I enjoyed the style in which this was written. This was my first book by this author, and I was not disappointed with the technical side of things. There were times when things felt like they were dragged out a little too much, but for the most part, the story moves along at a good pace. Aside from my own personal issues stated above, the scenes were very hot and steamy, with lots of sexual tension. Perhaps Michael and Natalie will improve as their relationship grows. This is most likely a case of “it’s me, not you,” so I’ll recommend this to those who like their m/f a little bit darker and edgier with some major sexual tension and mild BDSM.
These two characters took over my mind for over a year and wrote their story themselves. Flawed, round characters, do not expect them to be perfect but to be real as they dangle on the edge.
This is only the beginning of the tumultuous, sexy, and hot story of Natalie and Michael. Domineering, damaged, and loving at once, Michael must come to terms with his feelings for Natalie. Is it Michael or Natalie who is on the edge? Who will fall harder? Fall, the second installment of the Natalie's Edge series will be out in May. Redemption, the final installment, will be out in August. Expect things to be messily on the edge until then...
You live your ordinary life and you think you have it all figured out. After all, you are pretty successful for a young person in their late twenties. You've got a job that you enjoy, your own business, a steady income, not such a steady relationship but hey, it lasted more than two years and you're happy. Most of the time. And then during one seemingly ordinary day as you go about your daily activities, hurrying up for you're already late something happens. Or someone. Your whole life, your carefully constructed plans and ideas of yourself are smashed to pieces by a single encounter, as bright as a shooting star that leaves you blinded and begging for more. And once you open your eyes after that clash that changes everything you'd never be the same. Ever. All you can think of is “What the hell happened? And why should I be bothered? I'm happy. Right?”
That is exactly what happens to our girl Natalie, the heroine in the Natalie's edge series, a tale of love, obsession, kinky sex, doubt, insecurity, fall, disgrace and all kind of emotions rolled into one. She is the kind of girl who wears her heart on her sleeve and that shows in every sentence of these books by the young author R.B. O'Brien. Every sentence is vibrating with genuine feeling and makes the reader empathize with Natalie and walk every step of the way with her. It is not always such an easy journey. Sometimes I wanted to hug and comfort her as she was unraveling and going through the transformation from the girl she thought she was into the woman she was meant to be. Other times I rolled my eyes at her and told her that she should finally grow up. Her new sexual experiences and all the hot, kinky scenes in the series made me breathe harder and wish I were really in her place. If you read that book make sure that you're not in public during some of the NSFW scenes.
The writing is beautiful and emotional and the characters are flawed, complex and easy to identify with, even when they act more like confused teenagers rather than adults. And maybe exactly because of that. Human beings are imperfect and they often make tons of mistakes on their way to one another. These lapses in communication, inability to be honest and open are even easier when you're under the strong, sexual spell and you hurt on the inside every time you're not close to the object of your lust.
The story is simple and yet it draws you in from the first lines. Natalie meets a tall, dark stranger who is determined to test how strong she actually is by putting her through her paces. Michael sure makes her work hard for every small reward, even for giving her such a simple piece of information as his first name. She doesn't know the first thing about him and yet that simple elevator journey they share excites her even more than sex with her boring boyfriend of two years. It confuses her mind of a strong, independent woman but Natalie can't help it. The lust and sexual attraction are too much and go both against her feminist views and Catholic guilt. I liked the fact that she was a normal, young woman who has had her fair share of sexual experience even if her true desires are yet not explored. She is smart, well educated and a proud owner of a fashion boutique. It is always fun to watch an obvious control freak to surrender her defenses. At times Natalie struck me as a bit too emotional for a business woman but I loved the fact that she was successful and money were never a factor in her relationship with Michael. It's not a story of a billionaire who sweeps a starving, mousy girl off her feet and dazzles her with helicopter rides and his wealth. Her life is far from picture perfect, though. She is familiar with the pain of always trying to fit in, to be perfect to please, the ache of giving up on her beloved ballet dancing. But still, life is good for and she hadn't realized how sexually and emotionally repressed she was from hiding and denying. That short moment slowly began to melt all the inhibitions that stopped that prim and proper girl had.
Enter Michael L. Black. If that guy was a woman he'd be the ultimate Cocktease who flaunts all the pleasures she can give you and then leaves you, hot and bothered, with a raging erection and a need that no one else can satisfy. He recognizes Natalie's submissive nature, her need to give up on control and sure as hell knows how to take advantage of all of her weaknesses, how to push her buttons and leave her a panting mess. Michael has some of his major asshole moments. I won't give any spoilers but over the course of the novel I really wanted to kick his ass. However, as much as he irritated me at times, he wasn't a crazy stalker with short temper who abuses the heroine and makes her walk on eggshells so she wouldn't set him off without even knowing why. At times his behavior with Natalie was borderline abusive and cruel. But I don't think he ever truly meant to abuse her. Michael was more like a person who has learned all about the female body, our visceral reactions and how to constantly keep us on the edge but who knows nothing about feelings. Some of his reactions showed complete ignorance of the fact he was hurting people. I can say I liked him and could identify with his insecurity, trust issues and restlessness. He was also pretty consistent with his passion for the environment and was capable of being caring, loving person. Michael was also the ultimate fantasy of every submissive girl who enjoys sensual torture and intense orgasm denial. Some of the things he did to Natalie, especially during her famous punishment dinner scene were nothing short of sinfully delicious. At times his tendency to repeat himself about how he loved being in control was annoying but he meant every word.
There are readers who would probably take issue with the fact that Natalie cheated on her boyfriend with Michael. That just enhanced the story for me and gave it a much needed spice, angst and conflict. Frankly, I wouldn't judge her. Perhaps Natalie should have been honest with herself, Michael and Scott but don't we all make mistakes? Especially when we suffer from lackluster sex life, boring relationship and inexplicable needs? She kept repeating to herself that Scott was such a nice boy but quite honestly, he didn't struck me as that "nice". We don't get to learn that much about him but he certainly lacked motivation of making his relationship work. The first scene in which Scott makes an appearance pissed me off a little. Probably because I'm sick of the society's attitude that you're a whore if your lover doesn't satisfy your needs but you should be okay with that because he is "such a nice guy and treats you so well". There wasn't much of that fine treatment either - he is a guy who gets himself off with his girlfriend and doesn't even bother to try and make her feel good. He also allowed his catty female boss to openly attack the mentioned girlfriend and then accuses her of having an attitude. I'm not saying that cheating is the solution to the Boring Boyfriend Syndrome and Natalie could have handled the situation better. But I can understand why she did the things she did and why she was unable to stay faithful to Scott. If I were her, I'd probably cheat on him as well. Be honest, ladies, wouldn't you?
But don't think that the series are in favor of cheating. Natalie pays for her dishonesty in one of my favorite scenes in which "I'll have you for dinner" takes a whole new meaning.
I could understand why Natalie fought against her needs and Michael's urge to dominate her sexuality. Though I think that the conflict with her feminism views was a bit exaggerated. After all, Michael didn't want her to give up on her right to vote, have a job and property. He had no misogynistic views or need to demean women and put them in their place "because that is how it is natural". His wish wasn't even for a 24/7 slavery relationship. She could totally be a successful, intelligent woman who enjoys submission in private. Maybe it is because I've always been a sex positive feminist but Natalie worried over that way too much. These unlikely lovers had a lot more pressing issues to deal with on the way to happiness.
The heat between Michael and Natalie seemed to increase as they progressed in their affair, just like their conflicts and fights. They had the occasional light moments that made me feel relieved of all the angst, some humorous, cute scenes that made me endear to them. After all, a relationship that relies entirely on sex and chemistry is bound to burn its energy at some point and leave the characters with nothing but emptiness. I liked their conversations and moments of tenderness, aftercare and laughter. Without them the book would be a pretty pointless transition from one sex act to another.
Another thing I loved was that the author had avoided the usual trap of making every other female except for Natalie a horrible, disgusting human being or a nasty, good for nothing slut. Even some of the characters we were supposed to dislike - Scott's boss, Michael's ex - had something positive about them and felt like realistic characters. I've been a little nervous at the appearance of her best friend Patricia who instantly formed a bond with Michael. To my relief there was no subplot in which the two former best friends become mortal enemies over a man they both fall in love with. Natalie and Patricia were adorable and their friendship was one of my favorite aspects of the whole series. You could tell these two were there for each other and even the long distance didn't have an effect on their connection. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening Michael, Natalie and Patty spent together over wine and guitar music. And no, get your minds off the gutter, there was no threesome.
So, while Natalie's Edge has its angsty, dark moments I'd say that the author knows well how to balance between pain and pleasure, torture and delight, laughter and tears. The finale was laced with drama that culminated in one surprising, happy revelation for Natalie. But don't let that fool you, just the circumstances in which it happened should point you they have a long way to walk till they learned to trust and love each other.
In conclusion, we have two flawed human beings who can't stay away from each other, sizzling sexual encounters, plenty of kink, angst and an ending that made me want more. I hotly recommend it to everyone who enjoys a dark yet romantic story with great character development and great sex scenes. R.B. O'Brien is definitely a talent that you should look out for, she has a lot to offer. 5 erotic stars for that beginning.
The first thing that grabbed my attention on this book was its cover. A beautiful woman with only her underwear and her Ballet shoes, not quite the ballerina type. As a professional Ballet dancer with a keen eye for the "perfect" body I saw some flaws on this image of a ballerina. Actually her overarched back already gives it, almost like denying her sexual pleasure, although wanting and craving for it. And the way she tied the ribbons on her pointe shoes showing some sloppy terms with her Ballet training, or lack of instruction on how to do it well. If she cannot lace her own shoes, never mind thinking about her hiding the knots. She is definitely not an expert, but immature. A kind of a Lolita, as the way she looked at the photographer in the picture. So you already get the picture of what´s inside. Whoever made that cover is an artist and an expert in communicating a feeling and a storyline. Natalie is indeed that kind of girl who tried to hide herself inside assorted masks, making her appear vulnerable and self-confident,at the same time, but she´s totally naked on the outside. And so it goes with her attitude towards life itself. Her boyfriend (and I mean Michael, the one she didn´t cheat on... yet!) is in no way insecure, but totally controling. Where people see flaws in character I see a very courageous woman. Natalie lives her life to the fullest. She is eager to experiment. But she draws the line, the boundaries in bondage. And, like any girl who had to endure years of Ballet discipline and exercises to ensure a good performance, she expects more of herself than anyone else. It´s no secret that Ballet forces you to get into a more Masochistic scenario. After all, for the sake of beauty and pleasure for the eyes of others you get to force yourself into a regime that not many can take. Some readers may get mislead, though, and failing to see her character as faulting where she is actually just showing how human one can be, and they are oblivious to the thruth beneath the domineering process. Natalie is being true to herself when she tries to walk into the wild, to reach out to her self-discovery, her true self. And there she might even get hurt, or fall in love. Fall will be the exact word. For she is much more falling in love than being loved or in love. She starts to get her broken pieces and put it all together again. The guilt about her cheating on who appears to be as a cold, self-absorbed, bloated-minded, selfish boyfriend Scott doesn´t impede her a bit to the beat (and beating)of a sensual symphony. The author was crafty enough to let loose ends on him. She doesn´t allow the reader to get into deep with this guy, and in turn you don´t give much credit on him. So cheating is like shitting in the sense that you do crap while sitting on it and as you get up it´s just then that you see what you have done. You couldn´t get more real than this. The realistic characters are well portrayed. But the guilt she feels upon her boyfriend seems innocuous. Nothing would take her out of her purchase, per-chase per se (purr... poor?) poor cat being chased by a rat. Maybe if the story was not told in first person it wouldn´t touch so deeply as it does. And it won´t cause as much impact, and we wouldn´t feel such empathy for the main character. Michael became a subterfuge for her psyche - she likes to play games. She likes kinky stuff, she is into it, into becoming objectable and objectionable, to be subdued, dominated. She found that part of her and she thanked Michael for that. But that´s where lies the devil: She´s really confused, she doesn´t really want to loose it. The devil is not as ugly as they painted. R.B. made a real portrait of what´s underneath the veil. She mastered on making characters so close to us, so not at all perfect, disturbed and lost. The way Michael turned what seemed so right into something so wrong... Let´s just hope that Redemption will come easy on her...as the series goes, well, I think that this is more like a trilogy and I just hope I could see different colors and covers for the extreme make over.
Writing: 1 The novel was fairly well-written. One complaint I have is that the male lead says Natalie’s name excessively, which isn’t often found in real interactions. Also, I would have liked to see a few more variations of common expressions. Otherwise, the writing flowed and pulled me in.
Characters: 0.75 Natalie’s not necessarily your typical naïve female character. She owns a business and is self-sufficient. She’s not a virgin, but I daresay she’s a little repressed. Her sexual encounters with her current boyfriend, Scott, have only lasted fifteen minutes, so I’m not surprised she falls for Michael Black at a dizzying speed. How could Scott’s fifteen minutes ever compare to Michael’s hour of torment? Even I didn’t want her to be with Scott. I don’t care if he’s good-looking and sweet. The man comes home and dangles himself before her, and when she satisfies him, all he says is something along the lines, “Thanks, I had a shitty day.” Moving along… I did find Natalie annoying at times. In the beginning, she’s constantly throwing question after question. But I can see that it was the author’s attempt to show Natalie’s need to control and categorize everything, rather than live in the moment.
Michael Black was your basic brooding, controlling male lead. He’s intense, passionate, domineering, and beneath his heavenly exterior is a very insecure man. He’s also extremely eco-friendly, which was interesting. Our Mr. Black has difficulties trusting others and enjoys playing games with Natalie. He purposely makes her jealous, punishes her by withholding gratification, and constantly pushes her to the brink of her emotional/sexual capacity. In simplistic terms, he’s a pompous jerk. Yet, at least, he’s not completely insensitive. He always offers Natalie a way out, but of course she doesn’t take it. And he’s never creepy or possessive in a crazed irrational way, which I appreciated immensely.
“I wanted this man. Period. And I had never been pulled to someone in this way.” “At any time, I could have told him to stop, to untie me, to let me go home.” “Once you’ve been fucked by Michael L. Black, you’re just plain fucked.”
Plot: 1 Yes, there was a plot. Granted, it struck me as familiar, but since I preferred this execution, I will not venture to draw any comparisons with other titles. Natalie is unhappily living with her boyfriend Scott when she meets Mr. Black in the elevator of her work building. The two have an instant connection, and from that moment Natalie can’t get Michael off her mind. I won’t dive into the plot, because it would only spoil the novel. Let’s just say, it has its swerves and it’s well-rounded enough to provide a complete narrative.
Romance: 0.75 Natalie and Michael are instantly drawn to each other and their encounters are very steamy. I appreciated and enjoyed the way the author built up the tension between them in each encounter. And even though their relationship moves fast, I liked that the author didn’t have them pounce on one another the moment they met. But in terms of romance, there wasn’t much courting. Not that I expected a lot. At least they go out a few times and actually eat. Eating… now that brings me to my next element: steaminess.
Steaminess: 1.5 I will never look at lobster the same way. Seriously. I don’t know how it would work in real life and involving food has always struck me as a bad idea. But if you ignore the logistics, you have a very erotic scene. It’s pure indulgence. And the games. Michael should be called Mr. Tease. He relishes in challenging Natalie, bringing her to the brink of gratification, only to withdraw and start again. His torture is one of pleasure. Oh, but it’s a game our dear Natalie enjoys very much and one I delighted in reading.
“I don’t play fair, and I play a lot.”
Overall, a thoroughly entertaining read, highly recommendable, and successfully teased me into wanting to read the next in the series.
Temptation is steamy, sexy and, sensual story about Natalie, a woman who living a picture perfect life. Natalie has a college degree, her own business, and a great boyfriend. She thinks she has everything, but then she meets a man who makes her feel like she's never even started living. Natalie dreams of her mystery man Michael night and day and when they finally come together, their love is like nothing she has ever experienced. She’s a woman who has always been in control, but she finds that nothing turns her on more than being out of control. Natalie knows that she loves Michael, but she makes a mistake that jeopardizes everything. This book has a romantic happy ending, but I suspect that Natalie will have to live down her mistake in the books to come. I definitely look forward to reading the next installment in this series.

This is an awesome read. If you like bad boys who demand control, this book is for you. Michael and Natalie both own their own successful businesses within the same building. They meet in an elevator and things take off from there. In the beginning of the book Natalie seems like the girl next door. Boyfriend, her own apartment and a business of her own. Then she meets him, Michael. Even with a boyfriend who she has been distant with for some time, she's been thinking about Michael more then sher should, and even met with him once in what she thought would be a one night stand. After finding a text from on her distant boyfriends phone from his sexy boss, they decide to break up and move on due to their infidelities. Michael Black inroduces his company and himself to the other tenants in the building through a company meet and greet party. Natalie attends and their erotic romance starts. Michael is into games and he doesn't mess around. He's not into cheating, which he gets upset when they had their first encounter she was attached. He's into controlling the person he is with. Natalie herself finds her falling for this dark, erotic man. She likes the control he has on her, likes exploring her dark passion. Michael becomes smitten with her also. VERY good read. Puts Fifty Shades to shame in the domination category. If your into the bad boy, dark, erotic romance. This is it! I enjoyed this book very much and cannot wait for installment #2.
I found this a difficult book to read because Michael, at least initially, comes off as such a manipulative, self-centered prick. You wonder at first why Natalie is so attached to him, beyond what he can make her feel. But ... just here and there ... you sense that there's more going on here. And there is.
This is an expertly crafted work that the author clearly put a great deal of thought into, not just the plot and narrative structure, but also the two main characters, who are complex, deeply imperfect people with a lot of emotional baggage. You care about Natalie and want her find her way through this, yet at the same time find yourself raging against what seems to be a dangerous situation she's getting into. I wanted to punch Michael in the face more than once, but I kept feeling that there had to be more to him, that this person I had begun to hate had to be a shell he put up against the world.
I've probably said too much and I don't want to say anymore about the plot for fear of giving away any spoilers. But I was unable to stop reading this book after the first page. It grabbed a hold of me and refused to let go, as difficult as some spots of it were. I'm eager to read the rest of it.
They say the course of love never runs smooth (perhaps it would be boring if it did). That’s certainly the case for the delicate Natalie Smith, business woman and ballet dancer, when she meets the down-to-earth, domineering Michael Black (what’s in a name?). Their worlds are so very different, but, like opposite ends of a magnet, they attract with a force that may bond them as one or tear them forever apart.
Michael gets his kicks through BDSM, mind games, role play and punishments with the power to turn intense pain into intense pleasure. Natalie has always been in control of her own destiny and relishes the chance of be submissive, to play a role in life not just on stage. But is this just a kinky fling? Or is there more?
RB O’Brien in “Temptation” paints in fine lines (a bit like Michael) until we get to know his characters as we know our own face in the mirror, and we are with them all the way to an ending that came as a surprise and left me wanting to continue with these characters as the Natalie’s Edge series continues. Read Book 1 and you will be hooked like a little pile of iron filings sucked into the pull of the magnet.
I don't normally read longer erotica novels (my favorites are erotic short stories), but this one drew me in once I read the other reviews and Looked Inside. The writing in the first 10% of the book was flawless, so I had to get it.
As someone has pointed it out, it was at first hard to read. It was just difficult to relate to the main characters, both Natalie and Michael. Why was this successful beautiful girl falling for this jerk? Why was he such an a-hole? But as I read more and more, I got pulled into to the story, and the kinky parts definitely kept me glued. I finished it in one sitting, it was that hard to put it down. Natalie's internal struggle was well described, and once you got to know the reasons behind Michael's behavior, it all made more sense.
I don't want to give away any of the plot. Suffice it to say, the writing was great, the story engaging (and very entertaining in the bedroom), and I simply cannot wait for the part two.
Educated and accomplished with a successful business, Natalie appears to have it all, but just beneath the surface is a void. Enter Michael Black. Arrogant and demanding, he turns her world upside down and we, the lucky readers, are happily along for the ride.
As a woman and a writer, I'm fascinated by the journey of self-discovery, the circuitous and often tortuous path to fulfillment. Thanks to the writing skills of the talented Ms. O'Brien, I felt every emotional moment of Natalie's quest to reconcile her feelings for the troubled and mysterious Michael.
This book was so well-written, so breathtakingly honest, that there were times I had to remind myself I was reading fiction and not a memoir. I can think of no higher praise than that, except to say I'm eager for the rest of their story. Well done. I loved it!
I received this book as a gift from the author for winning a game in a Group Event.
This would be a good book if you're into BDSM. It has a bit of those elements; dominance and submission anyways. I enjoyed the story, but I was a bit thrown off with the characters. Michael craves control in his life in all ways, but in my opinion he's a huge insecure jerk. He doesn't treat Nat very well. And she knows it. I don't like that about hero and heroines. She's desperately in love with him yet she knows he can treat her almost cruelly sometimes. I found that to be a turn off. I am interested in finding out more about Michael though considering you don't get to learn much about him in this book. I did like that Nat stood up for herself at the end.
Seduction. Every morsel. Every bite. That is just how I felt as the reader. I prolonged finishing the book because I enjoyed the author’s ability to make me feel what Natalie felt. Temptation was a ride in the person of Natalie Smith and how she thought and felt. So well defined, I felt it too. The book moved with the power of the first person as the storyteller revealed intimate details in such a believable way.
This is not the end for the tale of Natalie Smith and I for one am glad. This is just the kind of delicious erotica I could curl up with on a relaxing Saturday afternoon.
This book is hot! The chemistry between Natalie and Micheal practical jumps off the page. But what kept me so intrigued was the emotions of both. Natalie is normally a very confident business owner yet when Micheal is around she is very insecure and scared. Micheal on the other hand comes across very cold and demanding, when I believe he is more insecure with his emotions and has trust issues.
As they work through there initial bumps and misunderstandings they grow closer together. The sexual energy and magnesium is off the charts! Well written so that it flows perfectly with the story.
This book captivated me from the start, I couldn't put it down. The characters go through a roller coaster of emotions you can't help but be pulled along with them. Michael is an intriguing character and I look forward to learning more about him. Well written with a nice touch of humour here and there to lighten the mood when it gets intense. Can't wait for part 2, please don't keep us on 'edge' waiting for too long!
The reviews I read before reading promised well written and very hot sex scenes and they weren't wrong but they were tastefully written too and not just for the shock and awe impact. What I also thought was very good was the plot progression and how the characters were allowed to develop and grow. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how this series develops and have added it to my watch list.
This magic struggle between Natlalie and Michael is like two children that are playing a game, two children that are best friends but neither wants to loose, and despite the evident superiority of one, the other is secretly winning. This lust filled episode includes a game among lovers that neither plays well as the passions between them consume both beyond distraction. Natalie destroys the edge that Michael is building and sets an edge for Michael. A game RB has played with the reader, edging them toward the next, the unfulfilled, more, please RB.
Natalie is a 27 year old boutique owner who lives with her boyfriend Scott. While riding the elevator to her floor she notices a man that simply takes her breath away, he's gorgeous and she seems drawn to him. Natalie's interest in the man grows deeper as the day drags on. When Stan one of the guards comes by to check on her, she gets the courage to ask who this man is. Surprisingly, Stan tells her that the man has invited the whole building to a welcoming party. Natalie doesn't remember an invite, but she also hasn't gone through her mail in ages. After she does she realizes that in fact she has been invited, although she is not properly dressed she decides to attend. She wants to see this mystery man again, more than anything.
Okay first off, I have to compliment the author on her ability to pull the reader right into the world of Natalie and how well she crafted her characters. I adored Natalie I felt she was like any woman would be , given the circumstances. I don't want to give too much away because I feel this story should be read, it is very good. So if your looking for romance, sex (some hardcore love scenes), and love this is the book for you.
Right from the start, I was pulled into this hot erotic love story of longing and self discovery.
Natalie is a 27 year old successful business owner, who is going through daily life. Enter Michael, a sexy dominant alpha male. A chance meeting in an elevator soon changes Natalie's life and the games begin. While reading this book, you feel every emotion that Natalie feels, you are drawn into her world. Of course, the path of true love never runs smooth. Michael, has problems with trust and control. I will not spoil the plot, but this is a must read.
There are elements of BDSM in this story, which makes the sex scenes so hot!! I will never look at a lobster in the same way again!! This book is well written and RB, has an amazing writing style which makes you lose yourself in the words. Yes, there is a cliffhanger, which leads you into the next book. I am looking forward to continuing the series to see how Natalie and Michael's love story continues. I'm sure it'll be an emotional and erotic journey.
As a reader of BDSM erotica and erotic romance I was curious to get my teeth into this first book by RB O'Brien and "Temptation" did not disappoint! The plot is well developed and the characters are believable. For me - this is what FSOG should have been like - I believe that Michael Black is really out there, looking for his Natalie. The book is well-written and I enjoyed reading it. I deducted one star only because the sex scenes are not quite hot enough for my personal tastes. I wuld have liked more bondage and more kink, but then - that's just me! Thanks RB for an excellent introduction to Michael and Natalie's story...
The incessant rambling of Natalie's mind annoys me, and I basically skim almost all her internal dialogues, they are so repetitive. And I don't get Michael's attraction to Natalie either - nothing is mentioned about why he would want her, or how he really feels. Granted, it's totally Natalie's POV, so it's always how about how obsessive she feels about Michael - which can get very boring indeed. But I will persevere and finish this series.
Not what I was expecting was blown away by this love story. Natalie and Michael had me just rooting for them. Michael was struggling to let her in. Omg wow absolutely loved this. Can't wait to go into book 2. Definitely going to be reading more from this author.
