On the eve of one of the most important games of his career, Welsh rugby legend Gareth Thomas received a The Sun newspaper was going to ‘out’ him as gay. Working with Thomas himself, and young people in his hometown of Bridgend, playwright Robin Soans has spun a powerful story about sport, politics, secrets, and learning to be yourself.
Excellent play-text, comes to different, better, exciting life when it's put on the stage, which is what you want from a good script. Gareth Thomas is a Welsh Rugby legend, and as such, speaking as an Englishman, horrible to behold. But what a story, and what courage. Props, Alfie. (Small rugby joke). :)
Surprisingly amazing handling of mental health issues and suicide in young people, from what I assumed was just a play about rugby. Brilliant commentary about being gay in sports.
