Mike Brooks was born in Ipswich, Suffolk and moved to Nottingham when he was 18 to go to university. He’s stayed there ever since, and now lives with his wife, two cats, two snakes and a collection of tropical fish. When not working for a homelessness charity he plays guitar and sings in a punk band, watches football (soccer), MMA and nature/science documentaries, goes walking in the Peak District or other areas of splendid scenery, and DJs wherever anyone will tolerate him.
I enjoyed Harrowmaster so much and i was really looking forward to this, i hate to say that i was really let down. I was bored throught the majority of the book, i felt like nothing was happening and we weren't getting anywhere and the ending seemed very rushed and unresolved
all and all, ghost legion (the 2nd book in Mike Brooks Akurra story) was a bit of disappointment. I was beyond excited to pick this up! i mean it just released today & i didn’t put it down once! but maybe those high expectations got the best of me?
the characters for sure had there moments! but only a few of them did, because there is A LOT going on in here. this book has like 5 different factions in it, so some subplots just feel a little short imo.
if you like high action books, i think you’ll highly highly enjoy this. unfortunately, those type of books aren’t my personal favourite so ‘ghost legion’ is an unfortunate victim to my personal taste. but hey, that’s how books are. someones 3 star is another persons 5 star.
maybe i’ll update this in the future with more, in regards to plot and ending etc. but i want to avoid spoilers for the people that may be reading it in the coming weeks and months :).
Fun, fast-paced. Builds on Harrowmaster but could also be a decent stand-alone. Still has some elements of stock-characters/plot-lines, but Mike Brooks is always good for a few great twists (one of my favorite newer BL authors). Would recommend
Had very high expectations because Harrowmaster, and started off great. But some characters are written with absolute cringe millennial humor which sucks you right out of the book. Plot begins to fall apart and feel incredibly unfocused as the narrative continues. And lastly the Alpha Legions gimic of plans within plans rips apart the books strongest plot (which was a side plot because the main characters are very weak in this one) in the most uninteresting way imaginable. Highly recommend skipping this one and unfortunately the second dud in a row for Mike Brooks.

Mike Brooks has far outdone himself with this novel. There are loose ends tied up. Continuation of storylines you wanted to see. A look at what the renegade life could be. Well done, sir.
Not a bad book by any means but not really what I was hoping for as the follow up to Harrowmaster. The plot was just fine and it did have some really good character moments, but it was really just a big battle book without the scheming and the elaborate plots I want from an Alpha Legion book.
Overall, definitely a better read than its predecessor book. The battle for the planet was engaging and I really enjoyed Solomon’s interactions with his friend Kyrin. Definitely excited to see the continuation of the story and what the Pillar of Dreams vision for Solomon will entail
Like the varied Imperial and Renegade/Chaos forces involved in this 'small' war book. The shenanigans involved with the Alpha Legion and their equally shadowy Imperial enemies is a nice touch
Honestly was really excited about this one, but they (admittedly maybe GW’s fault) tried to set or reinforce the seed of female space marines with the dishonor guard. And most of the Twist were honestly predictable.
