I was honored to be a beta reader and ARC reader for the third installment of the "Storm Captain" series and let me save you a little time now before I write the rest of this review. Did you read my reviews for "Storm Captain" and "Assassin's Choice?" Because here's the praise from those two books that stays the same:
* I would follow Captain to hell and back with one arm tied behind my back if she asked me to.
* The love the characters in this crew have for each other melted me completely and made me long to host a dinner party for them with excellent pastries.
* The action is engrossing, the setting is enchanting, the writing is breathtaking.
* The portrayal of trauma, self-hatred, and healing in this series continues to touch on my own personal experiences with and beliefs in trauma healing in ways that make me start to cry.
With all that said, here's some new praise unique to this sequel:
The Worldbuilding
I said in my "Storm Captain" review that this series, with its world-jumping premise, will give a fanbase infinite possibilities. But before this series gets the flood of fanfiction it deserves, let's take a moment to praise E.L. Reeves' own worldbuilding skills. I think this book in particular highlights her talent for bringing our crew into worlds that hopscotch the lines of familiar and alien. "Seer's Path" takes place on a world entirely covered in mist. And yes, this most importantly contributes to challenges the characters face with the fast-paced action and mystery solving, but what I admired most is how thoughtful and creative the author was for accounting the mist into worldbuilding. It's not just "wow it's hard to see around here." The architecture of the city is built with a particular emphasis on access to light and ease of navigation. The clothing is designed to protect the people from the constant moisture. And my favorite detail of all? The interior walls of the homes are decorated in sweeping landscapes. This is such a clever, beautiful detail to me because think about it; in a world where the landscape is constantly hidden by the mists, what could be a more valuable, skilled, or admired form of art than landscapes? Chef's kiss. Pure admiration. Take notes, baby authors, that's what real worldbuilding is. It's not stressing about your fantasy language's exact regional dialect syntax differences in ways readers won't notice or remember, it's building details that show how the world around the characters impacts the way they build, live, act, and celebrate.
The Plot
I'm not going to spoil the mysteries in this book, of which there are two main ones that involve the mist world and Benji. Both are intelligent, challenging, and push the crew to their limits. It takes every fiber of emotional connection, cunning, and resiliency for the characters to get through, and the conclusion is delightfully satisfying.
And excitingly, the readers get to learn more about those mysterious Council members! I was completely wrong about what I assumed they were up to, how they were connected to the crew, and what their motivations are. I cannot wait to be swept away in the next book as Captain faces them again.

In Conclusion
I sincerely hope that this series finds the sweeping, loving fanbase it deserves because I might actually be convinced to become a fanfiction reader to have more of this series' world. I can't wait for the fourth book, and simultaneously am so sad the story may end... So the rest of you have to start loving this series as much as I do! That way we can support each other with fan boards, fan art, and giving the crew the hugs and attention they need.

I've been completely caught up by E.L. Reeves' storytelling since reading their first book, Storm Captain. All the things that hit home for me in that book were there in subsequent novels, to make sure I stayed hooked and now Seer's Path has refreshed that connection and ensured these books remain among my favourites.
The main thing that draws me to these characters and their stories is what I see as their altruism, while I think they would see it as the need to make amends for past failures. They've formed a strong found family group, which I love (favourite trope!!), and the support from it gives each person the courage to change parts of themselves and then work to make positive changes in the worlds they visit. I love reading about authentically good-natured people who can switch hats and display some moral greyness when required, and this author gives me that.
The mystery arcs are always unique and twisty. The author uses the problems facing the crew as vehicles for character exposition and growth, and does it incredibly well. This one had an element affecting one MC that had me floundering until it's resolution, when it made so much sense but was still something I'd never have dreamt up myself. Brilliant!
Another plus for me is seeing such competent, strong women on the page, and in leadership roles.
I think the worldbuilding is incredibly clever. The variety of worlds visited by the Captain and her crew really shows off the author's vivid imagination and ability to build in details to enhance believability and attract readers who want challenges in uncommon settings, tied together by familiar faces.
This is a tale of gripping adventure, political machinations and strong connections, made lighter with touches of humour and many tasty goodies consumed! The couple of hours you donate to reading it will be well spent.

Yay, book 3! Thank you to EL Reeves for providing me an ARC of Seer's Path!
I think I said it in my last review that I missed the crew, so it was so great to jump back into the story and rejoin them all again. And something I LOVED about the start of this book? A recap for the previous two! Yes please, let's do this more often!
So yet again, the crew gets dragged into a town's drama once they discover some strange and unsettling things have taken place in this fog infested land. Not only that, but our resident seer is having strange visions and hearing even stranger things.
I personally always enjoy the shifting focus of the characters in stories, and I enjoy it a lot in this one. Being able to read parts of the story through Benji's mental confusion and other things adds a layer to the story, but also seeing out others are perceiving him makes it even better.
Once again, Alyssa and the Captain are bad ass wives and kick ass throughout the book. I will never not love the Captain, she's always an interesting character to read about and see how she perceives the world.
The new world they go to is interesting and different, though I think I liked the setting of the first book better. I think the villain set up was done very well this book and was a lot less Scooby-Doo. I also enjoyed the secondary part of the villain story, but I don't want to spoil anything.
The only thing that I wasn't loving, which may be a set up for the next book, was the Warden section. I didn't care to see the crew from a random dude's POV and I felt like those chapters in the middle were just meh to me.
Overall, a great addition to the series!

Coming back to this world is always such a joy, and Seer’s Path delivers another delightful read with family at its heart.
Seer’s Path was everything I expected from a Storm Captain book. Great characters, an intriguing mystery, but perhaps most importantly, lots and lots of food. (Like, seriously… so much food!)
The clever thing about this series is that, although I always feel like the main cast of characters are pretty safe, and that it’s not really that kind of book, when they do get into danger, it instantly raises the stakes, and I find myself wondering, ‘what if this is the exception?’, which in some ways, only makes it feel more dangerous.
Benji is essentially the main character to this story, and we get a lot of answers about his past, as well as the ring from SC. While Benji is a perfectly good central character to this particular story, I did find myself missing Alyssa a little, who was much more of a side character this time out, though the chapters from the Captain’s POV were of course brilliant, and the dynamic of Benji and the Captain together felt really fresh and worked well.
We do get introduced to a new character in this one, and while I’m not quite sure what role they’ll play, I have theories I tells ya, and look forward to finding out more.
All in all, another fantastic entry into the Storm Captain series, and I thoroughly look forward to the final book in the series, which Seer’s Path sets up nicely!

When Benji’s latest vision compels the crew of the Merit to jump to a world covered in constant mist, they are hired to stop a series of murders by a giant beast called a ventermis in time for a visit from the emperor. However, nothing is as it seems, and the Captain and her crew are in more danger than they realise.
This is another fantastic read, full of adventure, peril, intrigue and found-family. Benji continues to develop as his powers grow and we find out more about his history (and his possible future). By the end of the book, I desperately wanted to give him a hug! We see more from the mind of the Captain in this book, too, as she is forced to face her fear.
It was great to see more of the council of wardens as well; I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of them showing each other the new powers they had discovered (and the Captain’s explosive attempt!). I can’t say much more about them without spoilers, so I’ll leave that there.
The banter between the crew is lovely and balances some of the darker parts. The world-building is great and I especially liked the way the people had adapted to living in constant mist, and the descriptions of the forest. After the revelations at the end, I can’t wait for Soldier’s Reckoning!

I absolutely loved this, awesome sequel to The Storm Captain, it was great to see a deeper dive into Benji’s world and get to know them better. This had a lot of action and blood and was so exhilarating as you were literally nail biting wonder if someone was gonna die. Highly recommend all of the books in this series.

A story about how having power can make you feel like the world rests on your shoulders. Both Benji and the Captain struggle a lot with feeling like failures every time something goes slightly wrong. I wanted to jump between the pages to scream at them to believe in themselves and in their found family’s love for them!
Having found people to love can be a weakness, but it is simultaneously a much bigger strength. This felt like the core theme of the story to me.
The atmosphere of this new world they are visiting is well realised and fits the intrigue perfectly. I enjoyed trying to solve the mystery along with the characters.
A highlight for me was the scenes in the Warden’s stronghold. I am so intrigued by this secret group of Wardens and I’m hoping it will be a big part of the next book in the series.
A solid continuation of the Storm Captain series, I would say this was my favourite book so far!

LOVED READING THIS BOOK!
After finishing the first two books I have been waiting and hoping for a 3rd book. Reeves did not disappoint every page is filled with excitement, you don’t want to put the book down. This book is filled with adventure, risk, love and true family bond.
I am thrilled to know the Capitan and crew now have another adventure…can’t wait.
