Half of this is just set up. They're is also a good bit of ignoring an obvious issue so it can blow up and provide the bare minimum of action at the end to try to justify a boring story. And at no point is anyone held accountable for anything, so no actual consequences. Pointless filler and boring setup, this is lucky to get two stars.

DNF @ Chapter 34

Whereas the first was a fast-paced book, this one is torturously slow. It begins well enough, dealing with the aftermath of last book's tower battle.

Unfortunately, at chapter 25 it grinds to a complete halt. It becomes a solo-story with chapter after chapter of learning monotonous crafting skills.

DNF at 60%. I thought the first half of the book was pretty good, actually. Some consolidation after the events of the Tower War, and it set up some interesting new directions. I was hoping we'd do a bit of training timeskip and dive into Charlotte's Trial in the second half of the book.

Alas, the author opted to have the MC learn four different crafting skills and make us suffer through all the crafting montages. Honestly, the crafting doesn't even make sense to me. A Cooking Pot "Puppet". Having the MC learn "Weapon Refining" and then rationalizing how it totally makes sense that this is the right fit for crafting cauldrons? It all just feels random and poorly conceived. I just have no interest in it; one craft was bad enough, having him jump around between four, all I'm sure to justify him creating stupidly powerful artifacts later on. I'll pass.

3.5 Stars. Not much challenges the OP MC.

I'm looking forward to the day when Magnus' soul heals and he combines traditional magic with Body Refinement.

Not as good as the first one. The main reason was the first one had stakes. It was a new world for the reader and it is always more fun to learn about something new. Then Magnus had a time frame of one month to get stronger or he and his tower would be in deep shit (the stakes were high). It was also a goal that was understandable. He needed power in order to win so all the training montages made sense with that goal in mind.

This one didn't have that goal. Magnus kind of wandered around for the first half of the book and I couldn't tell any of his goals. The author did give use one at the halfway point but it didn't feel like it was as critical as the goal was in book 1. Overall, I still liked it and am looking forward to the next one.

Such a Friggintastic book! Don't miss out Seth Ring is golden!!!

Just AwesomeSauce! I just love Beast Companions and Amber the winged pig takes the stage. Magnus thanks to Amber is not just surviving, he's thriving because of Amber's strength. The soul bond they have is the only thing holding his cracked core together! Not only that, but because of the bond it gives Magnus the freedom to explore his own classes and abilities, to train harder, to think out the box. Pushing himself to his utmost limit and even beyond! Since he's unable to hold mana in his broken soul he has'ta figure out ways to circumnavigate the problem. Finding a way to reserve it, for all intents and purposes a mana holding tank. And actually improving how to beat the odds! For instance studying talismans, basically long outta favor in the mana rich environs! But talismans use the mana drawn within them, instead of on-the-spot mana demanding spells. And Crafting, making puppets to do the work for you! Puppets that work 24/7! Wow Alchemy too, for when you need that alchemic pick-me-up. And if you don't know Crafting and Alchemy are two of my favorite disciplines!!!
So yeah AwesomeSauce don't miss out grab the book. Seth Ring is golden!

As enjoyable as this second novel was, I can't help but be a little disappointed.

The reason for this is that this story wasn't nearly as creative or as tightly written as the first book. The strengths of that first novel lay in how the protagonist turned every obstacle in his path into an advantage. It also had a clear conflict driving the story from the very beginning, which kept the novel focused. This book, on the other hand, has lost that truly creative problem-solving element, and instead of a tightly written plot driving the narrative, the story meanders to the final page.

That being said, this is still a fun story. I like all the elements being set up, and I am as eager as ever to see where this story goes next. If this series keeps delivering stories of this quality, I'll stick with it for a long time. However, if it continues to deliver books of the calibre of the first novel, then it has the potential to be one of my all-time favourites.

I loved the first book. This book is pretty much everything wrong with the genre. Magnus spends most of the book crafting. Which in itself wouldn't be so bad but he doesn't really have anything to show for it when all is said and done.

Then plot breaks into the crafting dimension at the 11th hour, presumably because the author remembered that books need conflict and resolution, and this book basically ends the same way book 1 ends.

Also I can't get over Curtis. Everything about him doesn't make sense this book.

I loved the premise and the world, but it just seems like there's no plan here. Debating dropping it here, unfortunately. I went from "I'm going to buy all the books in this series" to "I wish I hadn't continued reading."

Body Refinement in a Beast Tamer's World 2 (Body Refinement in a Beast Tamer's World 02) by Seth Ring — 4.5⭐
The second installment is here, and this series is still going strong.
The action really ramped up in this one, but so did the politics. I enjoyed seeing the story expand beyond just the characters and their immediate goals. It added another layer to the world and gave the story more depth.
We also get introduced to a separate magical system, which was really interesting to learn about. Add in some new characters and even more of the world-building, and there was plenty to keep me invested.
Overall, this was a great follow-up to the first book. The story is getting bigger, the action is getting better, and I’m still really enjoying this series.

Flying pig and Cultists

Our favorite flying pig is back. This builder novel is fast paced with a good mix of crafting and fighting. The only concern I have is at the rate he is advancing, what will the next few books bring? That said this book is reminiscent of Nova Terra and really not a far cry from the series Roverpowered that I just read. But while Roverpowered could easily slot down to middle grade, this series would be a tad higher in YA due to violence. Loved this book and the worst is that now I’ll be awaiting the next installment. You’ll like this one, check it out.

LitRPG done right

It's an enjoyable ride. Power is the main goal, but it's power for a reason. Most LitRPG forget this fact, and get lost in the sauce of numbers go up. However, Seth Ring has the experience to wrap this plot light genre with a bit of kingdom building, cozy atmosphere, action, with some exploration and romance to satisfy any reader. Honestly, this is my favorite series of his.

Magnus the Magnificent has to develop his mage skills--without any magic power or knowledge. But he does know martial arts, so his soul-bound creature, a flying pig, takes him on a body development program.

He becomes insanely strong and can simulate magical powers. But he grows primarily when he puts his life in danger--such as fighting a blood cult which is trying to take over his tower--and the world.

He's growing a lot--but will it be enough to defeat a blood god?

delightful.

Cozy af, with solid world building. I read book one and two back to back because I loved them and couldn’t stop.

The ending of this one was spot on and witty. Although, I did marvel at the choice of potion effects near the end.

Seth Ring, I will read more of your books from your robust catalogue and I after this review I will preorder the next book using my dollar bucks.

Battlemage Farmer seems like the most likely choice.

I really liked this book it was a super fun good read. I wish the other books in the series would come out faster so I could read them now. The plot is great it has plenty of action and grinding with a classic overpowered main character like a good Isekai book is. The automated business is a really good idea and kinda funny I quite liked it when Magnus came up with that idea. So a really good book and fun to read waiting for definitely going to read the rest of the series.

NO SPOILERS - ISH.

And we are back! Story does not waste time as we start exactly where we left off from book 1. Which I greatly appreciate. I'm not much of a fan of time jumps. Magnus starts the process of dealing with a secure tower and having to talk with Charlotte's mom! Things take off even more from there! Unique characters. Humor. And the same action that hooked you in book 1 are all intermixed here.

A lot of fun

Book was great. MC is powerful and smart. Side characters have depth, romance is present, and while important it is not central to the story. The book could use a bit more world building, but I suspect this will come in the next book as MC will likely bd leaving his city. I look forward to book 3.

Very refreshing

This book continues to be of the same high quality writing as the first.
An intelligent main character with an amusing and enjoyable personality.
The plot builds very well on the first book and advances the many different storylines quite admirably.
I will happily continue to follow this series for as long as it continues to be this entertaining.

another romp and a good time was had

This series is a pleasant surprise and a romp of a good time. The MC keeps me guessing and the storyline has some great twist. Kind of sad that the love interest cooled off, but it looks to be picking back up soon. Looking forward to more of a good time in the next book, hopefully soon!

Just as fun as book one, just a little less silly.

This one was just as fun as book 1, though did have a little less humor. I enjoyed the progression and training, though I did miss the repution farming shenanigans that Magnus got up to in book 1. Good things coming in book 3 it looks like as well!

Interesting world building. A fairly simple magic system, but the story is fun by how it gets set on its head. At first I wasn't sure I would like the characters or care about them because it gets off to an off the wall start. But the characters were likeable and I fairly quickly started rooting for them. Particularly after the pig shows up. I can't wait to read more.

This is really a fun series. Honestly instead being an overpowered hero, Magnus started as a weak broken men. Seeing him grow until platinum ranked is something that i enjoyed. I had suspicion amber is a divine level of beast but by imagining her as a sas and glutton make her cute piggy.

Im looking forward to the 3rd book

I like the series but…

I really enjoy the main storyline, but there was so much fluff added in that it took away from the story. The story barely moved forward in this book. The constant mulling over choices and skills is frustrating. I will still be looking forward to the next book in the series. I can only hope there is more focus on the main story.

Not as good as the first

There is progress in the story line. A large section in the middle seems to be filler. In a few months becoming an expert in a number of arts is just a bit loose. All I can say is big pharma watch out.

good but…

So this was a solid book but my critique is that this book should be much longer or the climatic scene should have been set up better. It occurs with only a few minor hints to establish it which left the big finish feeling a little lacking.

Amazing series

Great addition to the series. Love the world building and magic tower building. Wish it had more body building with his cultivation but I understand he focused more on the crafting side this time.

Decent addition to the series.

I am a harsh critic when it comes to fiction novels. While I give this a passing grade for entertainment, others may like this novel more than I. I am curious in how the series will progress, so I will be waiting for the next book im the seriea.

Intriguing story

Wasn’t sure about Body Refinement when I started the first book but once I got caught up in the main character I was hooked. It’s quirky and definitely different from other books in this genre, in a good way. Now I’m left hanging though! When is #3 coming out?!

Great book 2!

Had some interesting happenings in the beginning and a bunch of skill stuff in the middle. I wish there was more of Magnus and Charlotte. Hopefully for book 3! Which needs to come faster.
