Wicked Wind
If fate offers you a gift, pray it isn't a curse.
When the dragons destroyed my magic, I thought it was the answer. But something evil remains, and I'll do anything ... go anywhere to find the answers ... even risk the Drifting City and the old Gods.
Kion can't go with me; I'll do this alone, but if I'd known what waited in the dark, would I have made the same choice?
Because some lies protect while others destroy, and the deeper I go, the more I have to lose. A threat is growing. My magic isn't benign, and the choice is clear: become as monstrous as the enemy or let innocents suffer.
When I've always been the justice speaker...
Time is running out for me - even with Kion back at my side - but these three things I know:
There is no road to redemption.
The wicked wind brings wicked deeds.
And those who seek don't always find answers ... they find destruction.
House of Dragons meets ACOTAR in this thrilling sequel to Malice Moon, where not all the love Senaria gave was wasted. But it's about to take a seriously dangerous turn when Kion Abaddon and Senaria Wraithion face an ancient enemy. Lush world building, action-packed battles, and dark magic fill this fantasy romance ... where the dragons have a say. Perfect for fans of Samantha Shannon, Sarah J. Maas, and Rebecca Yarros.

3.65 ⭐️ rounded up. I LOVED book 1 with all of the emotional depth of the characters. Book 2 was a bit of a struggle for me for several reasons. 1. It is always difficult when a book divides the main character by time and space for the majority of the book as it tends to slow down the momentum of their developing relationship and emotions depth. Usually, it only works if there is significant plot action and individual emotional growth during this phase. I feel like we did not get that in this book. There was some action and lots of world building and discovery but no real emotional growth and self discovery during their time apart. 2. The plot in this book stalled for most of it and the pacing was inconsistent. A lot of movement happened without a lot of tangible action and forward movement in the plot. We didn’t get any real consistency with the subgroups- the red priests or the king that made her the justice deliverer. They were briefly mentioned in the beginning but there was no follow through on what their role in the plot really is. Also, we have so many threats from so many angles but nothing really happened in the book until around 80% in.
I loved the world building and the floating safe haven but I think it was a missed opportunity to really show some self discovery and growth by our FMC. I also feel like we could have got more emotional growth between the FMC and other high mage while thy were in the false dragoon’s land. Some major girl bonding was a missed opportunity.
While our MMC was on his own independent quest during the first three quarters of the book, we saw some minor scenes where he was doing self reflecting and discovery about his capability to love and how he was not managing his grief but it was surface level and never went too deep and that was also a missed opportunity.
That being said… the last approximately 80% of the book brought us back to the same level of writing as book 1. It started with the new dragon oath… swoon-worthy, and the same commitment to our FMC by our lead dragon. It then continued with lots of plot action and good pacing. We finally got a reunion and some spice albeit it was brief. We also got back that emotional depth and development that made book 1 so good! The impact of choices and duty on their relationship, the desire for more but fear of wanting beyond what duty requires, and fear of vulnerability but we also got glimpses of that vulnerability and desire and hope for more with each other. I liked how the book ended with that and hope we get a lot more of that in book 3.

I wasn’t able to put this book down. That’s my litmus test for a good book. Frequently, I read an author whose world building, characters and story are very good, but the writing is uninspired or sophomoric. (or the writing is good and the other aspects are pale.) When an author excels at all of these components, it is a wonderful thing. Ms Wilder nails it!
The characters are alive and real to me - well developed, complex and unique. I care about them. I empathize with their challenges and struggles. Serenia certainly has her plate full! She is willing to do extremely difficult things by jumping into a total unknown. The "bad guy" is really, really bad - I love his depravity!
The worlds they inhabit are alive. It's as if they are characters themselves. They are very different from each each other - filled with meticulous detail, fascinating and vivid. They are woven together beautifully.
The story arc is engrossing and intense. Very compelling, very daunting. Seems insurmountable, but I'm sure they will prevail!
Wicked Wind sets us up for an intense next chapter in a fascinating and captivating series. Kudos to Ms Wilder!!

Such a great read! ❤️
As I said in my review of book one. If you are used to instant gratification and speed through books. Then don’t read. These books are meant to be read. Like the books of old they tell a story and this so far is great! I love the characters. The evilness in some makes you sick at how depraved they are but the light comes with the love 💕 from friendship and letting people in. 👏👏❤️

I did like this but I felt it to be a bit of a filler book. I would have loved more time with the dragons and less traveling lol.
But I will be continuing the series because I do find it interesting!
