I had such a good time with Defending Emmett! This story pulled me in right away with its mix of romance, family, and a touch of suspense.
Emmett is the kind of hero that’s impossible not to root for. He's a worn-down single dad doing his absolute best for his daughter and his ranch. Watching him try to hold everything together while running on empty hit hard. And Willa? She completely stole the show. Her bond with Mallory was sweet, natural, and honestly one of my favorite parts of the book. Also, her with her uncles...loved it!
Mallory was a great FMC. She’s smart, independent, capable, and driven, and I loved that she never shrank herself to fit the situation. Even with her secret hanging over everything, her motivations made sense. As a result, there was a level of tension simmering beneath every page. Also, as we learn the backstory of the history between her and her dad, it really makes the contract between Emmett and Willa even that much more special.
Sloane Davis also does a great job creating atmosphere. The way she describes scenes and settings vies you the ability to imagine in detail life on the ranch, the drought, and the pressure closing in. It And the Knox family dynamic? love them. I feel in love with them in Chasing Lachlan. The Knox family has been through it, but they're still strong together, despite those hardships.
The pacing of the book was pretty good throughout except for right at the end. I felt like it was a bit too rushed. The shift from “I can’t stand you / I don’t trust you” to “you’re everything I want” felt a little too fast for me. I wanted more time to sit in that emotional fallout and really believe the resolution. It just needed a bit more space to feel fully earned and genuine.
That said, this was still a really enjoyable read with strong characters, great tropes, and a compelling mix of heart and tension. Definitely worth picking up if you love single dad romances with a bit of suspense and cowboys who will put you in your feels.

Book 2 of the Three Spurs Cowboys series. Can be read as a standalone but for maximum enjoyment read the books in series order.

The characters were very appealing and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Book two of "Three Spurs Cowboys" focusses on Knox brother Emmett. A widower with a high-spirited young daughter. Emmett is running on empty - trying to look after Willa and keeping the ranch running. He places an ad. for a nanny and Mallory Stone answers. Willa takes to her right away, but she seems just a little too perfect. Mallory isn't what she seems, but her reasons are sound. If Emmett finds out that she's a lawyer trying to expose a neighbouring developer who is steeling the ranch's water - she'll lose everything. Good book !!!

Mallory is a woman after my own heart. She’s smart, fierce, and a sweetheart. She’s undercover trying to get something in her father and him stealing water from other ranchers. So she ends up at Emmett’s place as a nanny. Things start to develop between them though. Neither of them expected that to happen. I absolutely loved these two. It was intense and suspenseful. Sweet and chaotic. A definite must read.

The second book in the Three Spurs Series, this one was better than the first.
I like that her female characters are strong and don't require saving. I like that her men are big, caring and don't need to be the center of things. I like that she writes a solid story. It may not have a ton of twists and turns but it is a good read.

I was so happy with this book. The FMC is smart and competent. I love a smart woman who is comfortable with having knowledge and finding her HEA. The writer puts you in a beautiful space on this ranch and I absolutely love this family.
