This enjoyable story is about Vera a human and Grull a Vakutan. Vera was working in her Uncle Herb's shop doing inventory decides to take a break by walking outside of the town Rocky Ridge to the hot stream. Dressed down, she enters. Relaxing in the stream she hears voices and is then surrounded by the Boo Yahs gang. A stranger arrives and the Boo Yahs say he can join them but first kill Vera. He saves her and in one brief moment they touched and the Jalshagar bond ignites. Then Uncle Herb shows up and chases him away. Grull was planning to wander through looking for mining jobs but now his purpose has change. What occurs afterward was an engaging story as Vera life is threatened and Grull protects her. The characters were likable: Grull our scarred warrior who believed he didn't deserve Vera and Vera who longed for him to love her. Their romantic story was enjoyable to read in this copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
