Anslee may have survived uncovering her magic and learning she’s the true heir to the Dracorian throne, but after killing the fae queen during her failed coronation coup, she must flee Yonderton to save her life. Accompanied by her childhood best friend and the fae courtier who lied to her, she must learn how to control her power before she can return home.
But the fae town of Zylthiarat is not the haven that it seems. A young fae warrior insists that smoke demons are ravaging the town, and the fae Queen’s enduring hold on her kingdom makes this a dangerous place to seek refuge.
When Anslee’s uncontrolled power causes chaos in the fae lands, she must decide her own fate. The frivolous, timid maid is gone. But the magic-wielding queen feels out of reach.
Anslee must decide who to trust as she battles her unwieldy magic—or else give up hope of reclaiming her throne.
I only made it to 21% before I had to DNF unfortunately, the story picks up immediately from where book 1 left off but I still have no clue what is going on in this story. There are too many things that just were not explained. So the only thing I know is there is a human princess, her childhood friend, a wizard, and some shadow monster thing? Going into a sequel still being lost is not great.
I want to thank the author for sending me this eARC.
This book has subtle nods to Disney. If you are a fan of fairy tales, you will enjoy this book immensely. The overarching story is amazing, but I felt that the execution wasn’t quite there.
The pace of the book varied. I found that the beginning of the book was slow, while the ending felt sudden. A large portion of the book takes place in the woods. The characters wandered for what seemed like forever. These specific chapters could have been condensed without disrupting the plot. As a result, it was hard to stay focused. I would have loved to see the author spend more time writing the ending in more detail. The story's framework is great, but slight adjustments would significantly improve it.
K.E. Blair is a good writer. I was able to visualize what was happening most of the time. There were a few parts that I had to backtrack due to abrupt shifts in the story with little to no transition. The author did a great job avoiding repetitive words. I found quite a few grammatical and spelling errors. One more round of editing, and this book would be golden.
I love the characters in this story, but I am struggling to continue my connection with them as time goes on. The dynamic between the characters feels like a broken record. There is an ongoing cycle of fractured trust, more lies and deceit, and insurmountable betrayal. Anslee acknowledges this never-ending cycle, but somehow finds one redeeming quality to put her faith in. I am feeling frustrated and fatigued, especially with Avery.
Overall, this book was a fun read. It is the second installment in the Return of Magic series. There is a high likelihood that I will continue this journey and read the third one.
I was so excited to dive into this book! After finishing book one, I was eager to see what would happen next. Like book one, this one didn’t disappoint at all. There were moments when I wanted to shout at Robin and Avery—oh my goodness, these two! The book picks up right where book one left off. I really enjoyed our main character, Anslee, in this book. Towards the end, you really saw her growing into herself. No spoilers here! Anslee wanted someone to show her how to control her magic and the creature she called upon. She didn’t even realize she was calling it. She thought it was coming after her.
I think Anslee’s lack of trust in others keeps her hopeful that Avery and Robin will change. I felt the same way about these two. I really hope in book three, we find out what Avery’s plan was all along. Even the author didn’t leave any answers or spoilers about what him and his brother were up to. I couldn’t put this book down, and yes, it took me a bit longer to finish because it’s not very long book. But I didn’t want to leave this world. And that author added a crazy creature—OMG, and it’s one of my favorites to read about.
I loved Sage; she’s such a baddie! I also loved the different perspectives in this book. I can’t wait for book three to come out.
I enjoy books that give a different point of view when reading.
This book is amazing, and I want to thank the author and Hidden Hollows for the opportunity to read it.
The Forgotten Kingdom was such a fun sequel, and I honestly enjoyed returning to this world. It expands everything I liked about the first book while introducing even more magic, danger, and political tension.
Anslee continues to be such a likable protagonist, and I loved watching her grow as she learned more about herself and the power she carries. Her journey never felt easy, which made every small victory feel earned.
One of my favorite things about this book was the balance between action and quieter character moments. The fae and human politics added so much depth to the story, and I loved seeing the world continue to expand with every chapter. The multiple POVs also worked really well because they gave a better understanding of everything happening without taking away from the main storyline.
I have to mention the drakeling because it completely stole my heart. The animal companions brought so much warmth to the story, and they quickly became some of my favorite parts of the book.
The pacing kept me engaged throughout, and every new revelation made me even more curious about what was coming next. By the end, I wasn't ready to leave this world.
If you enjoy epic fantasy with fae politics, discovering hidden powers, multiple POVs, magical creatures, and immersive world-building, I'd definitely recommend giving this series a try.
Thank you to K. E. Blair for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.♥️✨
Full disclosure: this is a review for the second book in a series, and might contain spoilers!
The Forgoten Kingsom by K.E. Blair is the second in YA Fantasy The Return of Magic series, and it picks up right where the first book, The Hidden Crown, left off. It is a fast-paced, character-driven story that continues following Anslee as she dives head first into the world she was ripped from shortly after her birth. Not only that, but her heart is torn between her fae guide, Avery, as well as her childhood best friend, Robin. Learning her place in this world is hard enough, but Anslee is riddled with uncertainty as she learns that not only is magic real, but she’s full of it! The turmoil she faces while journeying to a land to find someone to train her, then back to Yonderton to claim what is hers, is plainly written through her attitude, reactions and inner thoughts. But also, that ending?? Get ready for a cliffhanger!
It was fun going on this journey with the characters from the first book, but I have to admit I think my favorite was a new character we meet early on: Sage! I loved seeing how she came into play, and I hope we get more of her and Finnick in the third book.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed returning to this world in The Forgotten Kingdom. One of my favorite things about this book was seeing how much the story expands beyond the first installment, with higher stakes, deeper mysteries, and plenty of magical moments that kept me invested from beginning to end.
Anslee continues to be a character I found easy to root for. Her determination and growth throughout the story made me want to keep reading, and I enjoyed watching her navigate the challenges that came her way. The blend of magic, adventure, and romance felt well-balanced, and there were several moments that had me eager to see what would happen next.
The pacing moved quickly, which made it an easy read, though there were times when I wished certain scenes and supporting characters had been explored in a little more detail. I found myself wanting to spend more time in this fascinating world and learn even more about its history and magic.
Overall, The Forgotten Kingdom was an enjoyable fantasy read that delivered the adventure and wonder I was hoping for. If you enjoy magical kingdoms, hidden secrets, strong heroines, and stories that feel like modern fairy tales, this is definitely a series worth checking out.
I read THE FORGOTTEN KINGDOM by K.E. Blair for a review tour hosted by the author and Hidden Hollow Book Tours. Thank you to both for inviting me along and for the gifted book. I am really enjoying my time in this series!
We start right where book 1, The Hidden Crown, left off. We get deeper into this epic journey where Anslee, Robin, and Avery are on a quest to save their kingdoms. It's so hard to know you can trust. There's a lot of back and forth in Anslee’s thinking about that.
We are introduced to some new characters. I appreciate how we're not introduced to a whole book full of characters all at once in this series. It's so much easier to keep track and get to know them. I love Sage! She doesn't take anything from anyone. I like how she seems to be the buffer within this group of unlikely allies.
The story is fast-paced. The journey is epic. The fight scenes with the creatures keep you on the edge of your seat. Some secrets are revealed, but even so, it feels like there's even more to what's told. Things are getting more dangerous by the chapter.
If I could've, I would have read this straight through. I didn't want to put it down. And, that ending! So good! I need book 3 now!
The book picks up where The Hidden Crown leaves off and I loved watching Anslee's growth as she learns more about herself and the power she possesses.
The story is character driven and high stakes as Anslee flees into the world that was taken from her at birth. Her journey is dangerous and nothing comes easily. Even the smallest victory feels huge.
My favorite thing about this story were the animal companions 🥹🥰 They brought such a warm and endearing side to the book.
It's a fast paced storyline with wonderful world building and an engaging adventure. But beware, there is a cliffhanger 😭
3.5⭐️ Thank you to author K. E. Blair for allowing me to be a part of the ARC team for the second installment of this series, The Forgotten Kingdom.
This book covers Anslee’s journey to learn about her powers. Her two companions are still making this love triangle trope intense. We get introduced to magic systems, fae kingdoms, familials, and Avery’s siblings.
The storyline for first half of the book went a bit two slow for me as it focued on their journey through the woods and the love triangle. I was expecting it to revolve more about Anslee’s training and learning to control her magic. We get more of that after the 2nd half of the book.
The ending? Bravo! The ceremony, her transformation, the calling of her familial, her finally coming to terms that she could never fully trust those around her…loved it! I’m hoping the third and final installment wraps some storylines and gives us another jaw dropping ending.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I think I may have enjoyed this one even more than the first book! From the very first chapter, I was completely invested in Anslee’s journey as she struggled to control her magic, figure out who she could trust, and fight for her future.
The stakes felt higher, the world expanded in such a fun way, and I loved getting to explore more of the fae lands. There was plenty of action, magic, and mystery, but what really kept me turning the pages was watching Anslee continue to grow into the person she’s meant to be.
I especially loved the new characters that were introduced (Sage was a favorite!), and the story flowed so smoothly that I found myself flying through it.
If you enjoy YA fantasy with magic, fae, adventure, found family, and a heroine you can’t help but root for, this series is definitely worth picking up. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next!
I was so excited to return to Anslee’s world and story, and Blair absolutely delivered! I love how much Anslee has grown, and although she doesn’t always make the right decisions, she’s determined and doing her best. The pacing was fairly consistent, and there were enough twists to keep you intrigued from start to finish. Getting to see more of the fae lands was fun, and the turmoil it’s been thrown into by Anslee’s magic makes it all the more interesting. I really want to know more about Robin and Avery, and see who they really turn out to be when all is said and done. (Although, I do like that they’re flawed in a way you would expect more from humans than fae, oscillating between good and lying). All of that said, I cannot wait for book three! There were some unanswered questions left at the end of this one, and I’m dying to see what happens.
This is the 2nd in the author's series The Return of Magic and carries on pretty much where Book 1 left off.
First of all, this is another beautiful cover!
Once again, out main character is Anslee but her POV is still joined with a couple of others which was great as you could take an omniscient view of the overall story!
Anslee is fleeing from what happened in Book 1 all while trying to work out what happened and who she can actually trust.
This book is more tense and felt more urgent not but as I had already met our main players, this work perfectly.
I still really loved Anslee and her character plus seeing her develop more within this book was great!
This is a brilliant Book 2 that YA lovers will love!
Congrats on this release!
🌟 Thank you to the author for my early copy. All views are my own 🌟
If I could give this 3.5 stars instead of 3 I would.
Why I gave this the rating I did was because of how frustrating the storyline is. It’s a cycle of “we’re good”, “I lied, I am sorry”, to being back to being good to lying all over again and again and again. It brought back memories of Melissa Roehrich’s Legacy Series FMC and MMC who went through this cycle for 4 books. Actually these two books (The Hidden Crown and The Forgotten Kingdom) seem like fan fiction of that entire series in how eerily similar the storylines are.
If you like magic, dragons, and found history then this may be for you, but for me it was just okay. I am curious about what happens in book 3 (I know, I know).
I appreciate the author giving me an ARC of this to read and review.
✨✨ARC REVIEW✨✨ If I had the ability to I think I could have easily read this book in one singular day 😩😩 The Forgotten Kingdom picks up right where The Hidden Crown left off and ends in a way that leaves you wondering what is going to happen next. I’m genuinely concerned for Anslee. In this book we see Anslee struggling to control her newly found magic, as well as trying to figure out who she can and cannot trust. Throughout the book we get to see her become more confident in herself and figure out exactly who she is and what she wants. If you are looking for a YA fantasy with dragons, adventure and found family The Return of Magic series is going to be perfect for you! I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!
I read The Forgotten Kingdom for a review tour with Hidden Hollow. I did book one with them too and was pleased when I got onto this review tour. As always my review is my opinion being on the tour didn't sway my opinion.
I enjoyed the first book and was pleased to see that The Forgotten Kingdom picked up where we had left off. Anslee is fleeing. I felt the stakes where higher in this one. I still didn't know who Anslee should trust but I enjoyed every minute of it. I felt the description was enough, it wasn't too overly or too less. I loved the introduction of the dragons. I liked seeing Anslee grow with confidence. If you like magic and mystery, growth and fantasy with what I felt like had high stakes I'd recommend this series
Hello, people! First of all, let me mention that this book is the second book in the The Return of Magic series. It is a series that I was looking forward to reading the sequel to and fortunately, it happened very soon. Let me inform you that the second book starts exactly where the first one left off. The characters continue to be well-written and at the same time, they have depth. I think each hero has developed. The world building is wonderful and the plot has suspense, twists and adventure. The different POVs are also a plus. The author's writing continues to be captivating, enjoyable, exciting, shocking and fast-paced.
Thank you very much to the author and Hidden Hollow Book Tours for the eARC!
I ended up completely binging this book. I picked it up and couldn’t put it down. The pacing is incredibly smooth, with each scene flowing naturally into the next, making it an effortless and engaging read from start to finish. I really liked the fight scenes. They’re clear, fast-paced, and actually exciting without being hard to follow. Speaking of fight scenes, I LOVE the new character's, especially Sage. I want a separate spin-off series of her history/story and her next adventures. Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I feel like this story really focused on Anslee's future and her growth, while incorporating elements of the past. Definitely one I’d recommend.
The Forgotten Kingdom by the super talented @ is a delightful fantasy with immaculate grown up Disney vibes.
We follow straight on from book1, The Hidden Crown, following Ainslee, Robin and Avery on an epic adventure to the fae lands to discover and develop hidden magic.
I loved how this book expands from book 1 building on the characters and the world we discovered, alongside adding side characters, higher stakes and dragons! The plot kept me wanting more and I’m still unsure who to really trust.
My only complaint is that it ended, I’m not ready I need more from this world!
5⭐️ read, so much fun, with drama and dragons. A must read for anyone who loves fairytale vibes.
This book picks up right where book one ends. Anslee barely gets a chance to catch her breath! Now, she’s on the run across the fae lands, trying to figure out her new magic and survive everything being thrown at her.
I really enjoyed watching Anslee grow in this book. She’s learning who she is and what she wants. Maybe she will figure out who she can trust. After everything that happened in book one with Robin and Avery, she is trying to decide which of these guys deserves a second chance.
We also get some great new characters! Sage was an absolute favorite! Add in dragons, action filled fight scenes, plenty of drama, and this was a fun sequel.
I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The magic, action, and unexpected twists kept me completely hooked from beginning to end. One of my favorite parts was watching Anslee grow throughout the story. Sage completely stole my heart, and Robin and Avery had me constantly questioning where they stood—I honestly couldn’t decide if I wanted to cheer for them or yell at them! If you love fantasy with fae, multiple POVs, unforgettable characters, plenty of action, and twists that keep you guessing, this series is one you need to pick up. That ending left me desperate for the next book. I need book three ASAP!
Anslee is a character you can't help but root for. I loved her determined nature, her personal growth, and the way she faced the challenges thrown her way. You simply have to keep reading because the story hooks you—it’s impossible to put down. I loved the unique blend of magic, adventure, and romance; believe me, there are moments that will leave you breathless, wondering what will happen next. *The Forgotten Kingdom* was a fantasy read that kept me company during a difficult time, offering both adventure and a sense of wonder through its magical realms and strong heroines. This story goes beyond modern fairy tales; it is a series that is an absolute must-read.
Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book has some great story ideas and uses several fairy tale tropes as a shell. Throw in uncontrolled magic, a dragon, and a girl trying to figure it all out while gaining her independence...she may not be what she seems.
There were some inconsistencies with the writing of this book. Things happened very suddenly and without smooth build up, and the shift into multi-POV after the first book was in third person was a bit confusing. If you can look past the need for editing, the story is good.
I just finished reading “The Forgotten Kingdom” The Return of Magic Book 2. We follow Anslee on her action packed adventures through the Fae lands while she tries to reclaim her crown and her kingdom. Along the way we get to meet some of the Fae from this foreign kingdom. Some are more like able than others * Sage* . There are also smoke demons, dragons, magic, betrayal, and so much more. It is a fast paced story with a FML you cannot help but love. It was so hard to put this book down. This series is worth the read and Book 3 is in the works! I highly recommend this series!!
This book was the second instalment of The Return of Magic trilogy.
The Forgotten Kingdom picks up immediately from the end of The Hidden Crown, with Anslee, Avery and Robin in the woods (still). The characters spend most of their time travelling, and the plot progression is slow in the first 80% of the story, then goes too quickly in the last 20%. I did not find the main characters very likeable, however, I did enjoy the new characters introduced in book 2. I think this book would be a great story for older children, but maybe too young for YA.
The story is told through multiple POVs and picks up right where book one left off with Anslee uncovering magic and leaning she is the true heir. I loved watching Anslee continue to grow and start to understand her powers more. She also continues to struggle with her feelings for both Robin and Avery and learning who she can actually trust.
We are also introduced to a new character, Sage. I really enjoyed her story and her determination. I cant wait to see more of her.
3.5✨️ Rounded up
Thank you to the author and hidden hollow for the arc.
Book 2 of the Return to Magic series picks up right after book 1 so you should start there if you ever pick this series up. The story’s really picked up since the ending of The Hidden Crown as we follow Anslee, Robin (childhood friend), and Avery (fae guide) along their journey. Absolutely wonderful Summertime reading for anyone into epic fantasy and adventure. We await book 3 to find out what happens next and I can't wait!
Thank you to @HiddenHollowBookTours and @authorkeblair for the #gifted copy.
Thank you K.E. Blair for allowing me to be an ARC reader for your book, The Forgotten Kingdom.
The book has an interesting concept with the surviving new magic and that she is the true heir of a Kingdom. As well the trio arriving in a 'safe' kingdom.
This is a good story of those that like to read about reclaiming thrones and battling unwielding magic, as well as multiple POVs.
Thank you again K.E. Blair and this book is releasing 25th June don't miss out!
I received this as an advanced reader copy from the author, and I am so glad she sent it to me!
I had so much fun returning to this world! I loved this story even more than the first book, and it was such a good continuation of the story that has been presented. It has so much intrigue, mystery, banter, and conflicting romance (in the best way). I couldn't put it down! It was such a fun read, and this is a great fantasy world.
I enjoyed this book! The FMC had some growth and had to learn to control her newfound magic. While trying to understand her magic she had to figure out who she could trust and who she couldn't. The story was fast paced and I finished in a day! The ending has me needing to know what happens next and Im rooting for Anslee even more 👀 thank you KE Blair and Hidden Hollow booktours
This book is just as good as the first. It continues to be complex and well written with the hints of classic fairytales coming through while still being its own story. Anslee continues to delight and I love seeing her stepping up to the challenges of her new world and dealing with the magic she didn’t know she had.
