As someone who is very eco minded (or tries to be at least) I was really happy to see a comprehensive guide to sustainability in business by the Financial Times. Barker and Johnstone-Louis offer a deeply insightful guide that shows not only leaders but those involved or interested in business and sustainability.
Written in an engaging and easy to follow style no matter your business level this is a must read for leaders, employees but consumers and customers. It gives a good overview of what sustainability actually should and can look like and potentially highlights how some businesses may brandish buzzwords or have the branding but may not actually follow through. Interestingly Barker and Johnstone-Louis highlight that sustainability doesn’t mean losing profits for shareholders.
Overall this guide is essential given the current climate and growing tensions between corporations and ecology. This guide shows that it is not as hard or mystifying as it may seem but does require more work than just changing branding etc.
As always thank you to Literally PR, publishers and author for the copy to review. My reviews are always given freely and my honest opinion of the book
I’m not a business person, so I’ll admit I wondered if The Financial Times Guide to Sustainable Business might go straight over my head. Thankfully, it didn’t. This is a clear and practical read about what sustainability actually means in business, beyond just nice words and green-looking branding. It breaks things down in a way that feels sensible and easy to follow, covering strategy, responsibility, impact, reporting, and how businesses can make changes that actually matter. Some parts were more aimed at leaders and professionals than me, but I still found it interesting and useful. It made me think more about how companies operate behind the scenes, and how much difference good decisions can make. A smart, accessible guide for anyone wanting to understand sustainable business a bit better.
Sustainable Business is the second FT Guide I've read. I like them because they're written in a navigable manner and aren't too technical in descriptions etc.
The book is written across seven chapters, each packed with useful and informative information and an easy understanding of the current climate and ways in which your business can help contribute towards making a change.
A useful tool for anyone wanting to make a difference.
