The Skinwalker Script
Since she was a little girl, all fifteen-year-old Kate's wanted to do is make a film starring her big sister Nicole. Nicole plays all of Kate's villains and like most bad guys at the end of movies, she always dies a horrible, dramatic death.
In real life, Nicole doesn't have a clue about her reoccurring role and Kate wants to keep it that way. In the past five years, she's written five scripts where Nicole has played an evil fairy, evil mermaid, evil queen, evil stepsister, and an evil dragon slayer.
The only person who's read her scripts is her friend, Mr. Nez, a Navajo Indian who works as a cameraman in Hollywood. Though he's blasted all of her writing so far, Kate's sure that the one she's written this year will spin his head because Nicole plays an evil witch during olden times who's banished to a forest haunted by a powerful skinwalker.
While Mr. Nez likes the script, his wife is terrified that Kate will bring bad luck on herself (and others) by prattling on about skinwalkers, let alone putting one on the silver screen. Kate soon finds that Mrs. Nez is right when an odd creature appears in the woods near her house and follows her up a trail. When the creature shifts into the form of an unnatural animal right before her eyes, Kate must face that her production is haunted by the very being she imagined. Should she should abandon the project she's dreamed of since childhood, or battle this demon she's conjured from the pages of her script?

The story follows a summer in 15 year old Kate's life, where she writes, produces, and direct her first ever film with the help of her friend Mr. Nez, a Navajo Indian cameraman who sees promise in Kate's latest script and promises to help her make it a reality. However, Kate's world is about to be turned upside down when two boys move into her small town. Each couldn't be more different than the other - one the grandson of a grizzled old woodsman, the other the son of a world-famous actor. On top of trying to juggle two new guys in her life and producing her old movie, Kate is followed home from the woods by a shifter - who claims to know dark secrets about Kate's past.
The story is written in first person present tense, which is my least favorite style. However, once I got past that I found the story to be fun, engaging and full of mystery. I love Kate's growth throughout the course of the book, as she turns from a selfish child to discovering what it means to make sacrifices and to love herself.
The pacing could be a little better, but overall the plot moves right along with all the pieces coming together at the end for a satisfying climax and resolution.

Good.
It was a pretty good book. A little scattered but I definitely enjoyed it. I hope there will be more.
