This story lives up to its title. There were several moments when I wanted to jump into the book and shake both the FMC and MMC because their decisions had me stressed.

That says a lot about the author's storytelling. When characters can frustrate you and still keep you emotionally invested, you know the author did something right.

The story follows Elohor, a talented athlete who constantly wins on the track even though it is not the life she truly wants, and Ifeanyi, a charming but entitled last born who refuses to take life seriously. There is also Odafe, a wealthy man who seems perfect on paper but whose interest in Elohor feels more like control than love.

What I appreciated most about this book is how real the characters felt. They are flawed, and human, which made their choices and relationships feel believable.

The story started a little slow for me, but once it found its rhythm, it became very engaging.

I also loved the strong presence of family throughout the story and how those relationships shaped the characters and their decisions.

Overall, this was an engaging read with complex characters and some really valuable life lessons. I recommend.

This book truly lives up to its title because everything about it is… messy, complicated, and very human.

Going in, I honestly thought I might struggle with it, but it ended up being such an easy and addictive read. Once it picked up, I couldn’t stop.

We follow Elohor, an athlete chasing a life that doesn’t even feel like hers, and the two men in her orbit — Ifeanyi and Odafe — both very different, both intense in their own ways. And the dynamics? Stressful in the best way 😭

There were so many moments I wanted to shake these characters because of their decisions, but that’s exactly what made this book work. They weren’t perfect. They were emotional, flawed, sometimes frustrating… and that made everything feel real.

This story goes beyond romance. It’s about pressure, ambition, family expectations, grief, and the weight of choices. You really see how everything connects and unravels.

I especially loved how strong the sense of family was and how much it shaped who these characters became.

And Ifeanyi… I don’t even have the words. He will stress you, confuse you, and still have you rooting for him because his growth actually feels earned.

Odafe? Yeah… God will judge 😭

What stood out the most for me is how human this book felt. Nothing was sugarcoated. The emotions, the mistakes, the consequences… it all felt raw and believable.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was real. And I loved it for that.

Thank you so much to the author for the gifted eARC 🤍

TWISTED is exactly what the title says twisted

This isn’t just romance. It’s ambition, grief, pressure, secrets, and emotional chaos.

Elohor wants Olympic gold and swears love won’t distract her… but life had other plans.Elohor pissed me off. She kept making decisions that had me staring at the wall like, “Why are you like this?” But that’s also what made the story hit.

She’s not a perfect FMC. She’s ambitious but vulnerable. Strong but flawed.

Odafe is intense and calculated.
Ifeanyi is charming but complicated.

The drama builds slowly and then boom- consequences everywhere.

I enjoyed the love triangle between them

My rating-4 stars

"Twisted" by Nky Omeka

Nigerian romance at its finest! Elohor's chasing Olympic dreams, but Odafe and Ifeanyi crash in. 💭 Odafe's wealthy, charming, and used to getting his way 😤. Ifeanyi's quiet, magnetic, and sees right through Elohor's walls 😎.

🔥 When Odafe proposes, Ifeanyi says "Still irrelevant" 🤣. When Odafe's like "I'm Odafe Odiete, son of Olorogun Daniel Odiete", Ifeanyi's all "Still irrelevant" 😂. Yep, he's not playing about Elohor!

💔 Complex relationships, Nigerian culture, and feels that'll twist you up. Elohor's torn between ambition and heart(s). Will she choose her dreams or love? 🔥

💪 "Ambition and love aren't mutually exclusive, but balancing them requires vulnerability." Truer words 🤑.

4.5/5 stars - couldn't put it down! 😊 Would love to see more Nigerian romance like this 💖.

Thank you Nky for the ARC! Loved giving this review 😊 Can't wait to see beautiful reactions written by others..

From the very first page, Twisted pulls you into a web you cannot easily escape. True to its name, the story keeps you turning corners you didn’t expect. At the center of it all are three strong-willed and determined characters - Elor, Odafe, and Ifeanyi - each determined to emerge the winner in the dangerous game of love that binds them together.

Elor has spent her life chasing a dream that was never really hers. Determined to make her parents proud, she pushes forward, despite hating every moment of it until a deep level of betrayal perpetrated by a close friend forced her out of the game and into the arms of a definite distraction in the form of Ifeanyi. Irresistible, and impossible to ignore, Ifeanyi is the addictive poison she shouldn’t have… but desperately needs.

Ifeanyi is a typical playboy , unattached and always in control but his life changes the moment he becomes captivated by the sight of a young woman who jogs past his home every morning on her way to the training ground. When fate grants him a chance meeting with her, he realizes that holding on to this rare and special gift may require something far more dangerous - stepping further onto a dark path that leads to nothing but destruction. He soon finds out life has a way of teaching its hardest lesson the brutal way.

Odafe, Oh God! No one should have him as an enemy, otherwise that person is dead-meat. At first, I was mildly irritated by his high level of arrogance and the wealth he threw around as if na him papa owns the world until I realise the kind of evil this man is capable of. I doff cap for this he-devil.

It is a must-read story for young adults. It is a story of a love triangle, second chance, the world of Athletics, smuggling and adoption. The Author did a great job, describing the world of Athletic and I could almost feel the emotions, the beating heartbeats and roaring sounds of victory or the cries of defeat. Well done , Nky!

Tighten your seat belt and get ready for the rollercoaster of emotion you are going to experience. The story will definitely leave you in a Twist!

REVIEW
Thanks to the author for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

STORYLINE:
We have Elohor, a sprinter forced to be a sprinter against her will who's pitted against two undeserving men. Young arrogant wastrel, Ifeanyi and Older bully, Odafe.
At first, I was excited to start the book because I was eager to read about a Nigerian athlete, something I had never done before. But, that part was only for 30% of the book, if not less.
I felt the storyline was not well developed. There were lots of holes there. In fact, I would have loved 'more' for Elohor even if she wasn't interested in sports anymore

CHARACTERS:
Unfortunately, all of the characters were badly written, I didn't like any of them. I liked Elohor at first, but she changed for the worst
Ifeanyi, the spoiled, arrogant brat who intended to smooch off his brother for the rest of his life.
Odafe, the annoying, abusive, oppressive man who I didn't see his purpose in the book.
Elohor's family who kept insisting on Odafe, refusing to see his red banners. They were really annoying
Elohor herself, who literally had no plans for her life and ended up as an ingrate to her guardians.

WRITING STYLE:
It was not my favourite. Sometimes, it felt like I was reading a YA book. Plus, it just felt unnatural and foreign. I didn't like it.

SETTINGS:
They were not descriptive enough. It would have been nice if I felt like I was present in the book.

OVERALL:
Unfortunately, I didn't like this book. It was too much for a romance, and I hated how a young 21st century woman was concerned about marriage when she didn't have any plans for herself. I would have preferred it if the MMCs were okay people. It would have made the love triangle endearing. The plot twist was unnecessary, too. This was just not my jam.

BOOK REVIEW ✨🫶🏽

TWISTED BY NKY OMEKA @nkyomeka

This book honestly felt like pure chaos in the best way possible because every time I thought the drama had calmed down, something else happened immediately.

Twisted is one of those stories that keeps you emotionally invested because it’s not just about romance. It’s about grief, pressure, survival, obsession, sacrifice, dreams, and the kind of choices people make when life keeps pushing them into corners.

Elohor’s story really made me emotional at times because beneath all the drama, she was honestly just someone trying to live for herself while carrying the expectations of everybody around her. Watching her struggle between what she truly wanted and what others expected from her felt very real.

And the romance??? Messy
Complicated.
Frustrating.
Emotional.
But somehow still addictive to read.

Ifeanyi honestly had me stressed because this man kept making decisions that made me pause and stare at my screen like “you genuinely thought this was a good idea???” But at the same time, there was still something very human about him. He wasn’t perfect, and I think that’s what made the story feel realistic.

Then there’s Odafe…
Yeah no
That man carried obsession on his head like a crown because some of his actions genuinely had me uncomfortable. The tension he brought into the story made everything feel even more intense.

One thing I really enjoyed was the dual POV because it helped me understand both sides emotionally. Even when the characters annoyed me, I could still understand where they were coming from and why they made certain decisions.

The writing style also made the book very easy to binge because there was always something happening. Drama, tension, emotional moments, family issues, betrayals, misunderstandings… this book truly did not rest.

Overall, Twisted was dramatic, emotional, frustrating, entertaining, and packed with enough chaos to keep me hooked till the end.

As the title says, Twisted truly lives up to its name. The story perfectly reflects how complicated and tangled the characters. lives become because of the questionable decisions they make and the consequences that follow.

Elohor honestly stressed me out while reading this book. I couldn’t understand why she was so determined to please her family without thinking about her own happiness. But in the end, I was glad she finally got the life she truly wanted.

Ifeanyi was another character that made me want to smack his head at some point. But as I kept reading, I realized he was simply being human (flawed, confused, and learning from his mistakes). His redemption arc was not rushed and that made me appreciate his character even more.
As for Odafe… I honestly have no words for him. God will judge him for me because I don’t have the strength 😂.

One thing I really loved about this book was how flawed the characters were. Their imperfections made them feel real and human. I also appreciated that the author didn’t rush Ifeanyi’s redemption. It showed that real change takes time and often comes from personal experiences and growth.

The author also explored the miscommunication trope, and while it was definitely stressful, it was still worth the emotional ride.

Overall, the writing style was good, the characters were well developed and I definitely recommend this book.

This was such a beautiful book, it explores the contrast between ambition, love and growth in a way that felt very relatable.

Elohor’s journey and struggles as she chases her athletic dreams while trying to navigate a very complicated love triangle situation made this story very engaging. Elohor is strong, ambitious and passionate, she made me question my insanity so many times😭

The characters in this book has their own flaws, they made choices that was really difficult, but the it felt real abc that added more depth to the book. I love how the author wrote these characters, they were not perfect but definitely real.

The pacing of this book was a bit slow but it gradually got better and it delivered very strongly, showing us how these characters came about, made decisions that weren’t always easy and grew so beautifully.

This book explores themes of family dynamics, love, choices, growth, dream, secrets, vulnerability, family pressures and expectations. There were so much heartfelt moment in this book that had my eyes watery.

Ifeanyi and Odafe, our two MMC that had me thinking all through, I rooted for everyone and cussed some people out😭😂 but I loved how everything turned out beautifully in the end.

This is a beautiful love triangle story that would keep you on the edge. Kudos to the author for this piece💞❤️

Twisted is beautifully written and features some really amazing tropes.

The story follows Elohor, an aspiring Olympian, and Ifeanyi, and their love story is executed so well. At first, I had issues with Ifeanyi, but as the story progressed, I ended up really loving him.

Elohor makes some questionable decisions at times, and there were moments when I just wanted to knock some sense into her, but her character was still written so well that I couldn’t help but root for her.

At several points, I was practically screaming, “Just explain things to each other!” But what really stood out was Elohor’s relationship with Kevwe — it was so heartwarming and genuine.

I have a long list of characters in this book that I want to throw heads at, and I’m sure you’ll feel the same after reading it.

HEA is definitely guaranteed.

This is a 4-star read, and I highly recommend it!

Oh My! The book lived up to its title and its cover. Just think of two men, conflicted in character, each having their flaws and a heart that is struggling to decipher where and who to stand with. That's one of the numerous dilemmas Elohor faced in this book.

While I seemed to like Odafe and dislike Ifeanyi initially, I later learnt that it's not wise to judge people too hastily.

I liked how real the characters were. We get to read about how flawed they were, battles they faced, some of which were won.

The book started rather slowly for me, but later picked up and it became what I couldn't put down till I completed it. It is such an enjoyable read.

How would you feel if you are made to do something that you are not really passionate about just to honour the memories of a loved one? Get the book to see how Elohor navigates that aspect of her life.
