Miss Maria Roberts refuses to rely on a man to secure her future. It took eight years to build a second life for herself, and nothing was going to stop her from living it—most particularly not a man who'd broken her heart once before or his cousin hell-bent on destruction.
A man under pressure…
Since the threats on his life began, Jasper Sinclair, the Duke of Derby has been searching for his volatile cousin. But it's turned into an infuriating game of cat and mouse. After slipping the noose, his cousin was now alone in the world. And more dangerous than ever. It's become more than Jasper can handle, and he's out of resources. And time.
The threat continues…
Now, armed with her new position as a Bow Street runner and eager to take on her first solo case, Maria is pulled back into the life of the man responsible for her first heartbreak. With peril in constant pursuit, Maria and Jasper must learn to work together to find the duke's cousin before it's too late. Will they be able to put the past behind them in time to save themselves and find love?

Maria and Jasper
Maria and Jasper’s story is full of intrigue from the very start. Maria is not your typical wallflower and is full of determination in both her professional life (as a runner and a writer) and her personal life (in the protection she gives her brother). The representation in this book is nothing short of beautiful and Jasper’s care and devotion to Maria is everything we love in an MMC.
In this second book, the narration is in duet style, and while these two are perfectly capable of carrying any style production, this one had me locked in. Their performances added to the air of excitement in story and really elevated the experience.
I love the themes in this series being played out in this historical setting. It has their gender bending (for the time) attitudes and actions standing out and feeling even more empowering.
