For Nicky 5 Stars

Nate and Nicky are identical twins. Due to a complication during delivery, Nicky is special needs. To look at him, you would never know it took him longer to learn things or that he was different in any way. He is the sweetest, most thoughtful, hardworking young man. Oh, and he has no filters-- he always tells the truth and says what is on his mind. Nate has grown up fighting every bully who ever did or said anything to Nicky. Along the way he has lost sight of reality a little. He feels his sole purpose in life is to protect Nicky.

Elizabeth is the new librarian/activity coordinator at the community program that deals with offering a safe environment and enrichment for special needs people of all ages. She has low self-esteem due to her sister, Audrey, constantly putting her down and telling her how unattractive and stupid she has always been. Audrey started treating Elizabeth this way after their mom died when they were 10 and 11. Their dad never said a word to Audrey about her behavior. Their relationship is toxic. Audrey uses her looks, her body, deceit, and any other means her wicked mind devises to get what she wants.

Nicky is smitten with Elizabeth. He wants Nate and her to get married and have babies. Will he get what he hopes for? Or will Elizabeth's insecurities and Nate's playboy ways stop them from achieving their HEA?

The characters in this story are well-developed and layered. All of them are extremely likable. Well, except Audrey. I wanted to strangle her! She doesn't appear to have a decent bone in her body! The story grabbed my attention from the beginning and never let go.

For Nicky shines a spotlight on bullying, the unacceptable use of retarded to describe someone, male rape, grief counseling, alcohol abuse and recovery, and interventions. Even with all of that, this is not a dark, angsty story. It is a love story. Not just a romance but a love story. Love between brothers; love between parents and their kids; love between friends; romantic love; love of oneself; tough love. It is uplifting. Educational without being preachy. If you are looking for a story of love and hope, I highly recommend For Nicky.

Because of Beckett 5 Stars

Audrey is in rehab to deal with all her problems and the mess she has made of her life. She discovers some very disturbing truths about her life and behavior and the reasons behind it. She has a tough road to travel before she can ever be truly happy. Nicky has befriended Audrey because she needed a friend. She realizes how special Nicky is and works to overcome her biases. Audrey is also trying to make her business as a party planner a success.

Jeremiah is retired Army now working as an IT Specialist. He isnt looking to bring a woman into his life for a variety of reasons. The most important reason being his 4 year old son, Beckett. Beckett is special needs for physical difficulties. He is wise beyond his years. Beckett and Nicky become instant friends. Jeremiah's retired parents moved to Torey Hope to be near their only child and grandchild.

Jeremiah and Audrey get to know each other as they work together planning a 5th birthday party for Beckett. The first time Audrey met Beckett she fell in love with him so she is thrilled to plan his birthday party. With Audrey having so much to deal with in her life and Jeremiah being a take charge man, can these 2 find happiness together?

Once again, a terrific story. Because of Beckett deals with sex abuse, sex addiction, and PTSD. Just like For Nicky, it is not dark and angsty. It is a story of recovery and hope. And love. I now like all the characters in this series. I think anyone would love to be part of this large, loving, extended family. We have gotten to know Libby and Audrey's dad, Jeremiah's parents, and Nate and Nick's parents. I highly recommend Because of Beckett. It is well-written and held my attention from beginning to end. There are some surprises along the way in this book, too.

Christmas in Torey Hope-- A Novella 4 Stars

This story takes place several years after Because of Beckett. Libby and Nate have an 8 year old daughter, Abby, and 4 year old twins, Decker and Sawyer. Beckett is 10. Audrey and Jeremiah have Megan who is 6 and Kendrick who is 3. Nick and Carly have 4 year old Zach.

Christmas in Torey Hope tells the love stories of the older parents: Jack and Judy Morgan(Jeremiah); John and Cindy Morgan(Nate and Nick); and Captain Decker(Libby and Audrey). I enjoyed getting to know how they met and fell in love. After investing so much time with them in For Nicky and Because of Beckett, I wanted to know their stories. I also enjoyed catching up with everyone. Again, a well-written story that held my attention.

Loving Josie 5 Stars

Josie has never known love. Her parents were high-powered business people who never wanted a child- especially a girl with artistic talents and no desire to learn how to be a businesswoman. She married a man her parents picked because he promised to allow her to pursue her art. Josie soon learns her husband is emotionally abusive and things only get worse after her parents die. Josie escapes and goes to Torey Hope to find an uncle she never knew about.

Kyle has loved Izzy since 2nd grade. They have grown up together and are happily married. Tragedy strikes and Izzy is killed. Kyle doesn't know how to live without her. A friend talks him into moving to Torey Hope to get away from all the reminders and start anew.

Josie and Kyle meet and become good friends. Their relationship evolves slowly and sweetly. Both of them have a lot of emotional baggage to deal with before they can move on. Their road to happiness is filled with tears, feelings of guilt and inadequacy, laughter, love, and a few events over which they had no control.

I loved the way they became friends first and helped each other learn to deal with the past. Kyle was afraid of moving on and forgetting Izzy. Josie understood Izzy would always have a place in Kyle's heart. Josie felt unworthy of love because of her past. Kyle understood and did his best to prove to her she was worthy. They were both mature adults who recognized communication was key to their relationship. I found that to be so refreshing.

I loved the supporting characters. They were a wonderful group of people I would be honored to have as friends. Josie's new family was the complete opposite of her parents. It was so nice to see Josie learn what love of a family meant. That had a big impact on her loving Kyle.

The story grabbed me in the beginning and never let go. The plot was realistic and well-written. Kyle and Josie were well developed characters who I cared about. I won't insert a spoiler here but I will say I loved "surprise character".
