While We Were Apart: The Engagement
He used to be jealous of men flirting with his fiancée, then she teased a story. Now he can't stop fantasizing about their time apart.
Nathan and Morgan’s relationship was always complicated, so it was inevitable their engagement would be, too. They survived years of jealousy and years apart, they survived med school, and came out stronger as a couple. But as their wedding approaches, the ghosts of Morgan's wild time abroad refuse to stay buried.
Three vignettes chart their time from engagement to matrimony—the bachelorette party in New Orleans, a holiday party in their new home town of Portland, and finally the wedding itself, where all worlds collide. Through it all, Nathan discovers that the images that once tortured him now turn him on. The stories that once broke them serve to bring them closer together. His journey from jealous boyfriend to willing hotwife husband has only just begun.
The Engagement is the second book in the While We Were Apart series, a provocative exploration of modern relationships, where sometimes you need to dive back into the past to forge a path into the future.

Absolute knockout! The series is in an elite category with one other series that I’ve read, The One Less Travelled by J.C. Wittol. That series was about 850 pages, this one 650.
Kenny Wright is a master in this genre. This story showcases his ability to grow characters - in this case over a seven yr period. The arc these characters are on is epic, which ties into the epic scenes. The encounters are so poignant because of the emotional connection between the characters, and the connection the reader has with the characters.
I strongly suggest that you read the three books in the series in order and without a break. It’s the journey that’s the masterpiece. If your focus is just scenes, go straight to book 3.
Morgan has always been top of her class, and the issues in their relationship start when Morgan returns from a year in London - she’s changed. Boyfriend Nathan, a good student, has issues with the changes, is very jealous and breaks up with Morgan. At this point Nathan is very immature and I DNF’d Book 1 here on my first attempt. Fortunately I came back to the series, pushed through the breakup and was rewarded with the growing maturity Nathan demonstrated as the story progressed.
The couple separate for about a year and a half before they reconnect. Nathan is doing his masters in teaching/history. Morgan is studying to be a Doctor. Morgan has some issues and cracks, Nathan is there and sees her through.
By the time they are back together, Nathan and Morgan have matured, they continue to mature and their relationship grows through the next five years. The question is often asked why Morgan is with Nathan, and she blurts it out, in no uncertain terms, in Book 3.
To see the brilliance in this book, you need to read it through from start to finish. If you’re just looking for a roll in the hay, this isn’t for you: or just read book 3.
There are lots of insights in this series. One is:
“It was a reminder that we all had different sides, different aspects. “
Nathan and Morgan are complex characters. It takes patience for them to be revealed, and for them and the reader to reflect on the incongruities in their personalities.
At another point Morgan says:
“The stories are snippets. What you’re not hearing are the hours spent in the library cramming for tests. Or going to plays in the West End. Or traveling around the English countryside. I did all those things. I lived all of that. It was part of the experience. And yes, some of those experiences got a little wild.”
As the story came to its conclusion, Author Wright wrote some of the steamiest scenes I have read. They were inventive, but what pushed them over the top was the connection between the characters. Also, I don’t think the scenes would have been as impactful if I wasn’t fully invested in the characters and I hadn’t been part of their journey.
My only very small criticisms of this story are: i) Morgan never asked, and Nathan never spoke of, his exploits while Morgan was away, and ii) we didn’t hear enough from Morgan as to how her adventures had affected her.
I’m feeling that, after a short beak, I’ll start rereading this series from start to finish. There’s a lot to unpack and I’m sure I’ve missed some important nuances in my rush to find out “what happens next”.

Took a few days to let this settle. Love Kenny's books and this is a good storyline however even in the first book I found the MMC wearing. Whiny, second guessing, worrying. Too Much...... He has the perfect woman in his life, and it seems he is pushing her away the entire time. I need a rest after this one..........

This is the second book in the While We Were Apart series. It mostly covers the engagement of the MMC, a young high school history teacher, to the FMC, a beautiful young doctor. Later in the book they get married.
I liked the first book in the series, The Early Years, because the author actually had characters in their 20's going through a tumultuous romance (usually the author's characters are in their 40's). But this book has a story that just slogs along, complete with weird flashbacks. However, if you get off on reading about the MMC's internal sexual angst because his partner is way out of his league, then have at it.
Oh, and as for the spice level? 1 1/2 jalapeños. out of 5.

Quite simply the best erotic fiction writer. Builds suspense, characters and story lines like no other and has you sitting on the edge of your seat and unable to put the book down. Cannot wait for the next book in the series to see how Nathan encourages Morgan to reconnect with her wilder, submissive side and how he deals with witnessing it first hand. Can he control his emotions, the jealousy, fears and nerves and let his excitement and desire win the day. I for one am routing for him and longing to hear what happens between her ex from her time in London and her Doctor mentor as they corrupt her mind and body

book 2 of another awesome series by Kenny Wright
This series expands over several years. It’s a complicated love story at its core, but so much more. We watch these characters grow, we see their flaws and we see them find each other time and again. If you survived the first book, but ripped your hair out like me, this book will reward your persistence. A hotwife past is one of my favourite themes.
